Loco Dice’s Desloat imprint returns with first release since 2020

The brainchild of renowned DJ/producer Loco Dice, founded back in 2007, Desolat’s reputation as an imprint for exceptional dancefloor-driven releases from across the house spectrum is near unparalleled – with ‘homegrown’ names such as Yaya and Francisco Allendes and talents such as wAFF and Traumer appearing alongside legends such as DJ Sneak and Luciano, and even tango hero Daniel Melingo since it’s inception.

However, with time comes knowledge of what works best for you and your projects, and with unprecedented factors changing the global norm, the decision to put the label on hold was made – ‘all good things need a break, and the time felt right to pause this great label’.

Focusing on his label En Colour and his own material during lockdown, while planning and plotting the subsequent movements for Desolat, the past few years have seen Dice biding his time and waiting for the right moment to re-introduce the label, and now ‘the music and the time feels right’.

Stepping up with the first artist EP on the label since late 2020, Colombian talent and Miami favourite Cortes drops his first music of the year as he unveils his impactful four-track ‘Dutchmaster’ EP this June.

Title cut ‘Dutchmaster’ opens the EP with an injection of energy as slinking drum grooves meet hooky, warped vocal interjections and bumping bass grooves for a driving cut boasting an abundance of vigour, while ‘Trickin’ uses harsher metallic percussion licks and skittering low-ends for another no-nonsense effort.

Next, ‘Section West’ fuses off-kilter samples and wonky synths with skippy drums, before ‘Eightysix’ wraps things up via resonant leads, restless arrangements and a chunky acid-tinged bassline at its heart.
