Global dance titan R3HAB steps back into the FATAL FURY arena with a one-two punch, this time delivering a duo of singles in ‘Running On Empty’ and ‘No Consequence’ to the soundtrack of the iconic franchise’s latest installment, City of the Wolves.
This marks the Dutch-Moroccan DJ and producer’s third contribution to the game’s OST, where he joins a roster of electronic talent that’s as influential as it is diverse, including Solomun, Alok, Alan Walker, ARTBAT, and many more.
‘Running On Empty‘ and ‘No Consequence‘ complement each other like yin and yang, yet each firmly holds its own identity. They share a production sound palette and an upbeat tempo (pushing past 130 BPM), but the contrasting vocal treatments and structures ensure each carries its own aesthetic and energy.
The raspy topline and dramatic builds of ‘Running On Empty‘ inject a fresh mainstage-ready feel, while the soft, processed delivery and breakbeat bridge of ‘No Consequence‘ give it an emotive and dynamic edge. Together, they bring a much-needed dose of adrenaline for heading into the FATAL FURY fight.
Since its arcade debut in 1991, FATAL FURY has stood at the forefront of fighting game culture, evolving from a cult classic into a global phenomenon. With each new chapter, the franchise doesn’t only push the boundaries of virtual combat, but style and storytelling too, a tradition now continued through music on The City of the Wolves‘ official soundtrack.
Expect additional singles from Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Luciano, as well as another release from Solomun, as the soundtrack moves towards completion.
