At least six people have been killed after a gunman has opened fire at Blue Parrot nightclub’s Elrow party in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.

The apparent gunfire took place just after 2 A.M. as clubbers waited in line to attend the BPM Festival’s final night.

Glasgow DJ Jackmaster, who was scheduled to perform at the BPM Festival, said in a tweet that four or five people had been fatally shot and “many wounded”,and he issued a warning to clubbers to stay in their hotels.

Eye-witnesses William Rogers told Mirror.co.uk :

“I was in the 12 North street of Playa Del Carmen almost in front of Blue Parrot. There where hundred of peoples in the street, some in the line and others outside dancing and partying because is a red zone where you can drink in the street.

“I was 50 meters of the place when we heard several shots. I entered to a nightclub called Mandala to cover from shots. Once there they closed doors quick and told us to cover.

“The shooting lasted for a few seconds and we were in Mandala for around 30 to 45 minutes until the Mexican police, military and ambulances had arrived and security allowed us to leave.”

Local media reports suggest the shooting may be connected to Mexico’s ongoing wars between drug cartels.
