Mar y Cel Reimagine Junior Jack’s Classic “Thrill Me”

Mar y Cel

Barcelona’s Mar and Ibiza-based Cel have teamed up under the name Mar y Cel (Catalan for Sea and Sky) to release their collaboration, Thrill Me. With this project, the two producers focus purely on creating quality house music, allowing the sound and energy of the track to speak for itself.

The duo first met several years ago at the Mar y Cel Café in Figueretas, Ibiza. The café perfectly captures the relaxed rhythm of life on the White Island outside the busy summer season — sunny afternoons where musicians slow things down, enjoy a cold caña, watch the world pass by along the promenade, and talk about the music they love.

Both artists already have strong reputations in the electronic music scene. Their solo releases ranging from chart-topping tracks to underground favorites have appeared on respected labels including Universal Music, Sirup Music, New State Music, Slackers 85, Pets Recordings, Moody Recordings, and Pacha Recordings.

Their work has also gained support from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Pete Tong, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Catz ‘n Dogz, Annie Mac, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Roger Sanchez, and Danny Howard.

The inspiration for their latest work came during one of those relaxed spring afternoons in Ibiza. While talking about house music classics, the two producers found themselves discussing Junior Jack and his iconic 2002 track Thrill Me. At one point, Cel asked a simple question: “If you remixed Thrill Me, how would you go about it, Mar?”

That question was enough to spark the idea. After paying the bill, the pair headed straight to the studio to experiment with their own take on the classic. The track was passed back and forth between Mar and Cel, slowly refined and developed until the final version felt just right.

Their reinterpretation builds around a big, bouncy kick drum pushing the groove at 121 BPM, combined with sharp hi-hats that keep the rhythm driving forward. Subtle synth layers gradually build tension without changing the tempo, setting the mood before the track fully opens up. Just over a minute in, the energy rises as the famous chorus-car-alarm synth bursts into the mix alongside the unmistakably seductive vocals.

Reworking such a legendary house track is never easy, but Mar y Cel manage to bring a fresh perspective while respecting the spirit of the original. And for fans of Thrill Me, there’s more on the way — with a remix from L.A. Dysto set to arrive on April 3rd.
