On the occasion of the centenary of Gustave Eiffel’s passing, the Eiffel Tower saw French DJ and producer Michael Canitrot, creator of the Monumental Tour project, play live on December 27, 2023, the anniversary of Gustave Eiffel’s passing, with the stream broadcast on both French television and social media.
The Monumental Tour concept is a tour that blends electronic music, heritage, and digital art, through stunning visual concerts, establishing bridges between the past and the future to offer a contemporary vision of our monuments. It aims to democratize electronic music by showcasing it in unconventional locations. Honored at the Institut de France and supported by the French National Commission for UNESCO, this project has also received acclaim in prestigious heritage sites such as the Mont Saint-Michel Abbey and the Palais Royal.
Following the success of five “sold-out” shows for his Monumental Tour, including performances at Place Stanislas in Nancy, France in front of more than 22,000 people and the first date of the project in Italy at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa in front of more than 10,000 people,Michael Canitrot, concluded the year 2023 with this unprecedented performance at the heart of the Eiffel Tower.
During this exceptional show, Michael Canitrot showcased an enchanting DJ set, weaving between melodic techno and progressive house. He highlighted his new track “Change,” created in collaboration with the house music legend Roland Clark, which was released on December 15, along with the compilation “Cycle.”
The show featured a spectacular lighting display in the Tower and performances by guest artists, including the “Spectre” choir, Yana Mann – mezzo-soprano singer, Abblaye Diop – a contemporary dancer passionate about electronic music, and Yann Dulché – a pianist merging electro beats with classical notes. Award-winning French actor Philippe Torreton lent his voice to Gustave Eiffel, providing a moving interpretation to guide the audience through this auditory and visual journey.
This original creation offers a fresh perspective on the monument, paying tribute to the boldness and creative genius of Gustave Eiffel. The broadcast of the show took place on December 27, 2023, the anniversary of Gustave Eiffel’s passing, and it was televised on the French TV channel CSTAR. With a duration of 50 minutes, the program is also broadcast on C8 and available for replay on MyCanal, the platform for Canal+ group channels.

Circoloco Madrid 2024 lineup

Fresh from a monumental return to London for a sold-out label showcase at London’s newly-minted 15,000 capacity Drumsheds alongside artists such as DJ EZ, Loco Dice, Green Velvet and Todd Edwards, plus a Miami debut during Art Basel at Factory Town, where they reunited with The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin’ Headz, Mercury Prize-winning creative Skepta and Lord Of The Mics founder Jammer keep things moving as they continue to showcase their vision of house music via their house-focused project, Màs Tiempo.
The Màs Tiempo co-founders continue to craft and curate the project’s growing sound as they reveal the label’s biggest project to date with ‘Màs Tiempo Vol. 1’ – a six-track Various Artists release set to land on the back of their recent Mixmag cover feature, closing out 2023 in style.
Uniting with the growing family of artists behind the Màs Tiempo collective, welcoming back Ossie and J Kolo, who featured on the debut EP ’Mas Murder’, alongside label debuts from Powazs, Deki Alem and A$AP Nast, the package showcases a diverse range of sonics spanning the house sphere with the pair at the core of the EP.
Skepta and Ossie unite on ‘Smoke In Your Eyes’, a slick late-hours cut guided by Stone’s soulful vocals, while Skepta and J Kolo’s ‘No Fiesta No Siesta’ is a warping effort merging skippy percussion and lively vocal chops.
Next, Jammer steps out solo on ‘Groovestar’, where low-slung percussion loaded with swing and murky, shadowy tones merge effortlessly before Skepta re-joins alongside Powazs as the three artists draw for heady grooves, bumping bass patterns and hooky vocal chants on the impactful ‘Slingshot’.
Welcoming Swedish producer and vocalist duo Deki Alem and A$AP Mob member and US rapper/songwriter A$AP Nast to proceedings, the Màs Tiempo bosses draw for classic house touches as vibrant organ chords, slinking drums and heartfelt tones merge, before Jammer once again delivers more quality solo material with the off-kilter and jazz-licked ‘Nemesis’.
Following ‘Dark Clouds’, his collaboration with Teenage Mutants and PETER PAHN, which stands as Drumcode‘s biggest track of 2023, Heerhorst ends the year with his debut solo release on Adam Beyer’s label via the gargantuan ‘Wimbo’.
Meaning ‘song’ in Swahili, the track samples the vocal from Zerb ‘Mwaki’ and draws on the stunning lead from Kenyan singer Sofiya Nzau, who sings in the Bantu language Kikuyu, a language spoken in Kenya.
Utilizing the vocal to cracking effect, Heerhorst‘s take has been highlighting Beyer‘s sets stretching back to the summer, including shows at Ultra Tokyo, Awakenings b2b with Layton Giordani and his Hï Ibiza residency.
Heerhorst – Wimbo
The release includes an Original Mix that is six minutes of powerful emotive techno, which superbly balances the energy between Nzau‘s vocal and Heerhorst‘s crisp percussion. Meanwhile, the 6AM Mix is a slower burner, teasing out the grooves into rolling late-night progressive techno territory. An outstanding all-round pack.
Simina Grigoriu closes out 2023 with a debut outing on Movement Recordings. Joining esteemed Indian artist Bullzeye, one of Techno’s leading ladies offers a stunning remix for his B-side ‘Padrobiotic’, which is out now as part of the two-track ‘Kreature’ EP.
The title selection ‘Kreature‘ finds Bullzeye operating at his creative peak with a production rich in character and groove. Creating a confident energy from the outset, its rhythmic drive is anchored by tough kick drums, rippling basslines and flashing percussive arrangements, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of growling synths and hypnotic arps. With a breakdown that exudes spirit, Bullzeye pulls from his expansive repertoire, infusing a tension-filled overlay with ominous vocal samples, resulting in a perfect prelude for a powerful drop and heads down finale.
The companion piece ‘Padrobotic’ further cements the EP’s dancefloor minded ethos. Here, Bullzeye‘s meticulous design and muscular approach conjures up dystopian visions, as cutting edge sonics and rolling rhythmic structures layer a bed of pulsating beats and driving percussion, for the perfect mid-set style energy boost.
The release concludes with Simina Grigoriumaking her label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Padrobotic’. Fresh off a contribution to Drumcode’s A-Sides, Vol. 12 collection, her maiden release on Movement Recordings stays true to the harder edge of its source material.
Simina takes square aim at the dancefloor, increasing tempo and pace, while adding acid gates, orbiting effects and an uplifting break to spearhead a finale that is equal parts tough and emotive.
As 2023 draws to a close, STMPD RCRDS is proud to unveil its final release of the year, a collaboration between Justin Mylo and Karen Harding titled “Rescue Me.”
Drawing inspiration from the iconic dance classic ‘Insomnia‘ by Faithless, “Rescue Me” effortlessly transports listeners back to the nostalgic era of 90s house and trance. This classic sound is seamlessly woven with Karen Harding‘s UK house and pop vibes, creating a harmonious blend of the old and the new.
Justin Mylo shares, “The writing session in London was a unique experience. Meeting Stephen, Karen, and James for the first time in person was surreal, and despite the initial nerves, the creative energy was amazing.”
Justin Mylo & Karen Harding – Rescue Me
Originally created on a guitar, the track took a transformative turn towards a darker, more melancholic theme. Mylo explains, “We began with the idea of a melancholic love song, but as the sessions progressed, we realized the potential for a dance song. The influence of ‘Insomnia’ was undeniable, and we wanted to capture that essence while blending it with Karen’s unique sound.”

Time Warp 2024 lineup
In the last ten years, the shows have been elevated to a unique level, setting new standards. In collaboration with international designers, the production team of the organizing agency Cosmopop develops new designs every year that are unparalleled in terms of technology and concept. By virtuously combining music, light, video, architecture, and art, they create unique immersive worlds in which visitors can truly lose themselves.
Today, each dance floor gets its own iconic design, sound, and look and feel. Guests are repeatedly plunged into a new world but at the same party as production and design remain at the highest level and are the cornerstones of every Time Warp which is why it is so well known around the world with their international editions in Sao Paulo, New York, and for the first time in 2024, Madrid.
However, Mannheim remains the flagship, thanks to the design possibilities that the city and, in particular, Maimarkthalle have provided for the festival. It is quite unique that thousands of visitors from 170 countries pilgrimage to this medium-sized city every year, making it the international centre of electronic music for a weekend. Thanks to Time Warp, Maimarkthalle has gained cult status, and the city of Mannheim received the title “UNESCO City of Music.”
Time Warp debuted back on November 26, 1994, at Ludwigshafen’s Walzmühle when only 2000 attendees squeezed into the party. Those who made it inside the warehouse initially disappeared into the party fog. Robert Armani, annoyed by the overwhelming smoke, ended his set after 30 minutes, clearing the decks for Laurent Garnier. Fortunately, the Frenchman turned this first Time Warp into a legendary party and remained loyal to it for another three decades. “Time Warp is based on making people dance,” he said on the occasion of the 20th Time Warp anniversary.
That holds true then and now. In 1994, techno was no longer underground; electronic music was experiencing its first peak in Germany. Therefore, the first Time Warp was not intended to be a rave like the thousands in the ’90s. Founder Steffen Charles wanted the first Time Warp to be a musical return to the underground. This should be reflected in the lineup and the name: “Time Warp – back to the good old days,” Steffen Charles recalls. Besides the musical focus, the location also played a significant role at the first party: “Time Warp shouldn’t be a rave in the traditional sense, rather a party like a large-scale club.”
A curated lineup in a carefully chosen and equipped location has been a trademark of Time Warp from the beginning, making it unique to this day. While the festival has evolved artistically and technically over the past three decades, its fundamental form has remained the same: Time Warp is not just a big rave but a collection of six or seven individually designed clubs, where you can dance throughout the night. Then, as now, Time Warp stands for spectacular floor designs, audiovisual worlds, and the best that the electronic music world has to offer.
Robin Ebinger, who joined the Time Warp team in the late ’90s, remembers challenges: “After techno and house disappeared from the public radar in the early 2000s, the future of the festival was uncertain.” Despite some setbacks, the number of attendees increased again, and from 2008, the event was sold out every year.
Do not miss this special 30 year celebration! Tickets and additional information are available on the official website. As in previous years, it’s advisable to act quickly: the first ticket tiers have sold out and in recent years, Time Warp has been sold out entirely weeks before the event.
