Mathew Jonson returns to Crosstown Rebels with ‘Tako Tako’

Mathew Jonson has developed one of the most distinctive voices in electronic dance music. His take on house and techno is rich in synth craft and high on captivating emotions, all shaped by his notoriously extensive collection of analogue and hardware gear that he can play, manipulate and use like few others.

An electronic mastermind renowned for releasing countless seminal tracks and albums, both solo and as a member of Cobblestone Jazz, he returns to a label that has been a constant throughout his career. With his ‘Tako Tako’ EP, he offers two more superb journeys on Crosstown Rebels.

Here’s what Mathew Jonson had to say about the release:

“In Japanese, “tako” (タコ) refers to both the octopus as an animal and as food. Unlike in English, where “beef” is the food and “cow” is the animal, Japanese often uses the same word for both.

So, “tako” is used whether you’re talking about the living octopus or a dish made from it. I stopped eating tako 23 years ago when I realized they have significant spiritual importance, not only here on Earth but also across the entire galaxy.”

The fantastic ‘Tako Tako’ kicks off with Jonson’s signature mix of elegant and refined synth craft, with dancing melodies bringing futuristic energy and neon colour to crunchy beats. They are smeared and smudged in a painterly fashion and help make this production a pulsating dancefloor thrill.

Equally standout is ‘Just a Little Bit’, powered by a jostling broken beat with a warm bassline and wordless vocals sampled throughout. It’s funky, kinetic, always on the move, and rounds out another one of Jonson’s fantastically inventive yet effective EPs.

Mayan Warrior Announces LA Halloween Event & Return To Burning Man

Mayan Warrior continues the next chapter in its storied journey with the unveiling of their new art car concept, ‘Mayan Warrior Galaxyer,’ and the announcement of their Los Angeles Halloween event. Held on October 26th with long-standing partners Stranger Than, Mayan Warrior Los Angeles will serve as the first off-playa appearance of the new art car following its highly-anticipated debut at Burning Man.

Originating in Mexico City, Mayan Warrior evolved from a renegade Burning Man art car and soundcamp to one of electronic music’s most successful touring brands, known for its unannounced lineups showcasing native Mexican and global underground talent.

After the original art car was tragically destroyed earlier this year, the resilience of Mayan Warrior’s vibrant community was exemplified, leading to the latest iteration of this extraordinary project. Through the ashes, the Mayan Warrior’s legacy lives on and takes shape in ‘Mayan Warrior Galaxyer.’

Fusing ancient artistry with state-of-the-art technology, the Mayan Warrior team has built a custom art car resembling of a Mayan spaceship and an altar stage, a continuation of the emblematic theme used by the design team for over a decade.

The new art car symbolizes the soul of the last Mayan Warrior traveling through space, time, and the cosmos. Inspired by the spiritual realm and the idea of a futuristic Mayan spaceship, Mayan Warrior founder Pablo Gonzalez Vargas worked in tandem with Alvaro Manzo on the conceptual design, Paolo Montiel on the lasers and lighting systems, and Daniel Coello for the industrial design and build.

Speaking on the new art car, Pablo Gonzalez Vargas says:

“Let this be a portal to higher alternate states of consciousness of transcendental self-discovery.”

Several unique and custom-made elements define the new art car. Built on a custom lowboy platform, the vehicle boasts a wireless-controlled custom electrical drivetrain and all custom LED screens that outline its design.

A powerful d&b KLS series cardioid sound system delivers an impressive 153,600 watts of sound—nearly double the size of the previous system. The art car is also equipped with a state-of-the-art laser system, including a 400W laser that pierces through the atmosphere, 17 moving headlights with new laser source technology, and eight 30W lasers aimed towards the front of the stage. All components are waterproof and dustproof, ensuring durability and reliability.

Mayan Warrior will continue to champion its signature sonic curation while gradually incorporating live acts that align with its eclectic identity. Held in partnership with underground event collective Stranger Than, the Los Angeles Halloween event will provide a truly immersive experience, from installation art pieces created by the Mayan Warrior community to individual performers that will pop up within and above the crowd.

Additional Mayan Warrior dates will be announced in Miami and Tulum later this year.

Tickets for Mayan Warrior Los Angeles go on sale July 10th at 12pm PST.

In an interview, Family Piknik founder Tom Pooks shared insights into what sets the festival apart.

“I launched the festival in 2012 with a strong concept inspired by open-air events in Canada and Germany but unique to France. We created an open-air, daytime festival open to all generations, with free entrance for kids and seniors aged 55+. The concept of everyone bringing their own food (‘pique-nique’ in French) formed the DNA of Family Piknik.”

He also highlighted the festival’s growth:

“From 1,200 attendees at the beginning, we’ve grown to 25,000 over the weekend in recent editions. Our festival experience, with doors opening in the morning and closing at 2 am, offers a distinct ‘southern’ atmosphere with its seaside location and vibrant decorations.”

On curating the lineup, Tom mentioned:

“Each year, we aim for exclusive performances from influential artists, blending established names with emerging talents. My decades of experience as a DJ and connections with international artists help in curating a diverse lineup. This year, we’re introducing the first Hard Stage in our history.”

Family Piknik also emphasizes community and environmental consciousness. “We’ve stopped selling plastics, pioneered free eco-cups, use solar energy, and collaborate with green local collectives,” said Tom. “Our core values of fun, mixity, and happiness guide our events, ensuring they cater to a diverse audience while maintaining our unique identity.”

Looking ahead, Tom shared, “We’re expanding to new territories, with our first big production abroad in Cyprus on August 29-30. We’re excited to bring the Family Piknik experience to new audiences.”

KASIA releases new interstellar track, “Drowning”, with Armada Music

The rising melodic techno star KASIA bumps the world with a new track. After the recent “Chronix” in collaboration with BINARYH under Zamna Records, the Polish DJ and producer officially releases a new interstellar drop with Armada Music.

Drowning”, combining emotional vocals and high-energy beats with intense synths and deep basslines, is set to move dance floors around the globe. KASIA has already tested this creation in her sets lately and has kept it officially under her spell until now.

“I wrote “Drowning” over a year ago and have kept it as my secret weapon for my own sets. Now, it’s finally time to unleash it on the whole world.

I’m stoked it’s dropping on Armada Music, marking my return to the label after releasing “Universal Nation” with them. “Drowning” is a powerful fusion of hard-hitting stabs, uplifting melodies, and emotionally charged vocals,” tells KASIA.

KASIA – Drowning

The lyrics talk about the fight for survival and the low state you get when you feel like you’re drowning. But then the light and savior appear to save everything. Then, new feelings kick in and are overwhelming. “Drowning” was already supported recently by Armin van Buuren & Ruben de Ronde in A State of Trance, where it was the “Progressive Pick” of the week!

Enveloped in the pulsating heartbeat of underground scenes, KASIA crafts a sonic journey that unites the raw intensity of hard sounds with the soul-stirring depths of melancholic introspection. Drawing from a rich tapestry of influences, her music transcends conventional boundaries, inviting listeners into a realm where time bends and emotions reign supreme.

The impressive rising artist is preparing unique sets for her worldwide tour this summer, which includes Hi Ibiza, Ultra Europe, Tomorrowland x Afterlife, Sunrise Festival, and more.
