Matrefakt land on Peggy Gou’s Gudu label with Dimension EP

Liverpool-based duo Matrefakt land on Peggy Gou‘s Gudu Records for their first release on the label: a four-track EP of undeniable dance floor weapons.

The last half-decade has seen Matrefakt release a steady stream of high-quality dance records with minimal fuss, and the support speaks for itself: Peggy Gou, Skream, Patrick Topping, Anja Schneider, DJ Boring, Richie Ahmed, Sally C, Sarah Story — the list goes on, and when you listen to their music, their rapid rise comes as no surprise. They’re also regulars at their city’s famed Circus parties, while the last two years have seen them play key sets at Creamfields, Hideout, Watergate and more.

Their first EP for Gudu is the definition of doing a lot with a little: samples are often looped across one or two bars, but Matrefakt know how to use them for maximum effect, building up tension with chopped vocals or looped bubbles and beeps over raw, loose and chunky drum patterns — just how we like it.

After Peggy playing multiple Matrefakt tracks in her sets for over a year, they played together for the first time at Creamfields last Summer and an EP naturally developed from there.

With transcendent late-night moments at the forefront of their mind, Matrefakt just get how to make dance records work. If you’re new to them, then ‘Dimension‘ is as good a calling card as you’re going to get.

It continues a stand-out 2023 for Gudu, which has already seen releases from Special Request & Novelist, Mogwaa, Matisa and DMX Krew, as well as the inaugural entry in Gudu & Friends – a new annual compilation series which introduced Salamanda, Closet Yi, Lady Blacktronika and more to the roster. With several other artists confirmed for releases later this year, 2023 should be one for the books.

Shermanology follow up Roots EP pt 1 with hugely anticipated pt 2

Shermanology have brought the sound of Curaçao back to the dancefloor, and pay homage to their Caribbean roots in their Roots EP pt 2, via their own label, D’EAUPE.

The second instalment of a two-part release, Roots EP pt 2 continues to showcase Shermanology‘s unique sound and diverse range that crosses their own Caribbean heritage and explores dance music on a more global scale, from Amsterdam to South Africa.

Featuring another two captivating tracks,’Jabula‘ and ‘Tok‘, Roots EP pt 2 is a continued testament to the group’s dedication to pushing musical boundaries and connecting with their roots.

Curaçao by way of Zimbabwe ‘Jabula‘ is an enthralling collaboration between Shermanology and two up and coming Zimbabwean artists – Verseless and King Her. Shermanology met Verseless whilst on holiday in South Africa when Verseless as a fan of the duo requested a picture – which turned into a long standing sonic relationship culminating in ‘Jabula‘.

Jabula‘ is followed by the massive dance floor filler ‘Touch‘, a collaboration with legendary dancehall group TOK and the inimitable DJ Buddha. Shermanology wanted to mix a combination of dancehall vibes and house energy – with the result being ‘Touch‘.

“We decided to make an EP dedicated to our Latin & African roots”, says Andy, one half of Shermanology. “Being raised in the Caribbean we felt that we needed to combine the house sound with Latin & African sounds.”

A family affair with cross-cultural flair, this is sure to be Shermanology‘s biggest year yet. Roots EP is an immersive musical journey from the Shermanology family – and another dose of creative brilliance from the D’EAUPE label.

LP Giobbi launches Yes Yes Yes imprint with single ‘Time Expands’

LP Giobbi announces the launch of her imprint Yes Yes Yes as part of the Defected Records family of labels, where the DJ, songwriter, and producer steps up as a newly appointed label head with a record that is a statement of what’s to come on her latest venture ‘Time Expands’.

“I grew up going to this hippie festival in Oregon called the Oregon Country Fair. My parents started going in their 20s, and I have never missed it since the womb. It’s my favorite place on earth because it leans into weirdness, joy, and mind-opening experiences.

The first thing you see when you walk on site is a sign that just says, ‘Yes Yes Yes’ and it makes me smile ear to ear every single year. This label is not beholden to one genre or one particular sound. It’s simply about good dance music, made for the dancefloor that expands your mind and makes you feel good.”LP Giobbi

Launching the imprint with an original LP Giobbi record, ‘Time Expands,’ a deep, chugging bassline, lo-fi synths, and LP’s signature musicality are married together by an otherworldly spoken word.

With the release also marking the first time LP has used her own vocals on a record, she explains, “The whole song came to me pretty quickly all at once, and I thought it would be so fun to have a weird psychedelic message floating over the dancefloor and the repetitive groove. This song is made for weirdos on an open-minded dancefloor, similar to one you might find at the Oregon Country Fair, and it made me want to have a separate outlet to release these kinds of tunes, thus giving birth to Yes Yes Yes.”

Speaking of the launch of Yes Yes Yes, Defected CEO Wez Saunders said:

“LP Giobbi is one of the most exciting talents of recent times – a fantastic DJ, pianist, and producer, LP will now be supported by the Defected infrastructure as A&R with the launch of her new Yes Yes Yes label. Having worked together for a number of years, LP has released across both Defected and D4 D4NCE, as well as playing multiple events across Europe and America.

Whenever LP releases or plays for the labels, the magic just happens. Our fans are super connected to LP, and as such, I am sure they will be very excited about our affiliation with Yes Yes Yes.”

GORDO and Adriatique join forces for the first time on Techno smash ‘With You’

Having worked on this track for over a year, GORDO and Adriatique are unleashing their first ever collaboration ‘With You’, an electrifying track straight from the dance underground.

Hailing from Switzerland, the electronic music duo known as Adriatique have been producing and playing house and techno since 2009. Their electronic style, combined with the latin influences of GORDO has made for an incredible dance floor focused track.

‘With You’ opens up with a pulsating kick drum and baseline combination that drives things forward. A flurry of claps sounds while hi-hats and snares are slowly introduced. Before long, a distorted but emotional vocal commands your attention while powerful synth keys dance and intertwine with the words that tell you, “Don’t worry about tomorrow” at the drop and explosion of noise with layers of sound and a release of the tension that has been building up. Combining these two artists has produced one of the most powerful electronic music songs we have seen in quite a while.

With You‘ has already received some massive support from the likes of Tale of Us who played it at their Afterlife show in NYC recently, and Korolova in Ibiza. An undeniable endorsement and stamp of approval from titans of the industry.

As the festival season draws to a close, “With You” is poised to make a lasting impact on dance floors around the world. The track’s unique blend of melodies, rhythms, and sonic textures will captivate club-goers and DJs alike.
