Miss Monique drops new track ‘Veselka’ on her own label Siona Records

Miss Monique has released her original production ‘Veselka,’ which is the first single of the year on her label, Siona Records.

Instantly recognizable behind the decks with her distinctive production sound and neon green hair, Ukraine’s Miss Monique was one of 2023’s standout artists, diligently cultivating a powerful niche within the progressive house scene through her inimitable productions, performances, and influential live streams on her own YouTube channel.

Her label, Siona Records, has been at the heart of this revolution, delivering a slew of melodic, trance-tinged house and techno from some of Ukraine’s most exciting artists.

Leading from the front as a statement of intent for 2024, it is Miss Monique herself who will kickstart Siona Records‘ output in what looks set to be a game-changing year for both artist and label. Hotly anticipated by her passionate fanbase, “Veselka” was a standout production from her now legendary Cercle live stream from Montreal and has opened most of her recent live sets.

Miss Monique – Veselka

Veselka” is rooted in vast, cavernous drums that roll deep with a growling bassline adding weight. As the track builds, melody and synths are layered to deliver her trademark big-room energy crescendos which explode into a kaleidoscopic color of sound, creating hands-in-the-air moments throughout her huge Christmas and New Year shows from Berlin to Dubai and San Diego.

Here’s what Miss Monique had to say about the release:

“‘Veselka’ was the last track which I finished in my hometown Kyiv before I had to leave my country due to the war. This track has pure energy, good vibes and is imprinted in my memory like a bright moment of peaceful times.”

With releases on both Drumcode and Armada, Miss Monique is one of the few artists who can sit comfortably in the Venn-diagram space between progressive house, trance and techno. Adored by fans all over the world, her organic rise has been the result of a commitment to her craft and demonstrated by appearances at Tomorrowland, EDC, and David Guetta‘s Future Rave residency at Hi in Ibiza.

David Guetta kickstarts 2024 with massive new BENNETT remix of ‘When We Were Young’

David Guetta

Kicking off the new year in style, David Guetta keeps the hits coming with a massive new BENNETT remix of ‘When We Were Young’, his hit single featuring GRAMMY-winning pop star Kim Petras.

The track is currently charting across 11 different markets on Spotify, breaking into the top 40 in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Luxembourg, as well as charting across 5 markets on Apple Music and 6 markets on Deezer.

Breakthrough German producer BENNETT’s remix proves why he’s causing such a storm in dance music right now. His hard-hitting take on ‘When We Were Young’ adds muscle to the original, with huge snare buildups, a powerful orchestral section and an ingenious rearrangement of Kim Petras’ addictive vocal part.

The new remix adds to last week’s industrial, party-rousing version from the Grammy-nominated, globally renowned DJ Steve Aoki and Swedish producer KAAZE.

Oliver Heldens and Ian Asher reimagine Sérgio Mendes’ worldwide hit “Mas Que Nada”

Oliver Heldens

The spirit of Rio’s rapturous annual Carnival provides the heartbeat of Oliver Heldens and Ian Asher’s new release, a re-imagination of the worldwide hit “Mas Que Nada”. Originally written and recorded by Jorge Ben, the song achieved enormous international popularity when Sérgio Mendes and his iconic band Brasil ‘66 released their cover.

Since it’s 1966 release, “Mas Que Nada” peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard charts, was voted the fifth-greatest Brazilian song by Rolling Stone Brazil, and was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2013. The anthem continues to be a cultural music staple throughout Latin America.

Originating from a viral sound posted by Ian Asher in July 2023, “Mas Que Nada” was reworked by Oliver Heldens into a light, freeing, groovy, and nostalgic party tune with a sugar-coating of percussive vibrance, receiving the blessing of the Brazilian music legend Sérgio Mendes himself.

Speaking about the release Oliver Heldens said:

“I’ve always loved the vocals of the timeless ‘Mas Que Nada,’ and over the years, I must’ve played it in hundreds of my DJ sets in several mashups/remixes, which always got great reactions from the crowds. Last year I really liked what Ian did in his initial viral sound with the stuttering/gated vocal drop, so when he approached me to collaborate on it and finish it together, I had no doubts at all!

I’m glad I could do my thing with it by adding a funky, distinctive melodic bassline while staying true to Ian’s initial idea, keeping the main focus on the stuttered ‘Mas Que Nada’ vocal. It’s been a pleasure working with Ian, and it’s such an honor to get the approval of the legendary Sergio Mendes!”

“It was fascinating to see the incredible reaction to Ian’s initial sampling of the song. It’s always flattering when young artists want to reinterpret one of my songs, and I’m eager to see what happens with this release,” said the three-time Grammy Awards winner and Oscar-nominated songwriter, Sérgio Mendes.

Ian Asher adds, “I’m so excited to be working with one of my favorite artists Oliver Heldens, and the Brazilian legend Sérgio Mendes to rework his classic Mas Que Nada! I first posted a snippet of the edit last summer, and when I did, I had no idea that it would become such a viral moment that would be shared around the world… even being heard by Sérgio, the man himself who made the song famous so many years ago. After getting his blessing and working on it with Oliver, I think we made something that’ll be a weapon on the dance floors for many years to come.”
