Interview with Serkvin & Nikita Grib from Cafe De Anatolia

Serkvin and Nikita Grib are set to reach new heights with their unmissable style and very unique sound that have already put their name high on the list of electronic music artists to follow.

Check out the full interview below!

Tell us more about yourself & your music career?

Formed in 2021, this DJ duo made of two talented producers decided to bring together 10+ years of experience making a new project. A distinctive feature of the team is our versatility.

Serkvin is a Los Angeles-based producer and DJ known for his solid EDM tracks. He performed at the best venues in the US: Avalon Hollywood, Academy LA, ExchangeLA and continues to win audience’s hearts on dance floors around the world.

Nikita is a resident of the legendary ODYSSEY festival and a resident of the Warpp club. The audience finds his performances as very strong emotionally and notes that his music is filled with perculiar melody and rhythm.

How would you describe your style of music?

Our signature style is organic house with melodic, electronica and afro touches. We worked with different genres previously, which led to a completely new sound in our collaboration.

Where do you find inspiration?

The inspiration for Nikita comes from his family, his beloved wife, his son, his friends – the best guides for inspiration. And of course it comes from the nature that surrounds us, which gives us everything we need, sounds, melodies and all the beauty. Serkvin finds his inspiration in exploring new places and music, traveling, listening to vinyl records and playing electric guitar.

Describe how music is important to society.

According to Nikita, music is a guide to the spiritual world, through which one can immerse himself and get the necessary emotions. Music influences the mood and behavior of society, which is one of the most powerful tools to influence people, both psychologically and emotionally. Serkvin considers music to be an important part of society, because with its help a person represents himself in society, connects with other people, speaking an international language in a way.

What is the best time of the day to create?

For us, the perfect time to make music is early in the morning, when your head is fresh and clear. The rare exception is at night, when the city is asleep and you can be alone with yourself and your thoughts.

Who are your musical influences?

Serkvin, despite the complete opposite of his artworks, finds his inspiration in rock music and rave culture. Nikita is inspired by classical musicians, such as Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky. He also likes to listen to Queen, Radiohead, Nirvana, The XX, Linkin Park, Eminem, The Prodigy. This is the kind of music he can listen to regularly and always find something new in it.

What is the most difficult thing about being a musician?

For Serkvin the difficulty of being a musician lies in the necessity of constant development and combining several roles at the same time. According to Nikita, to be a musician you should have a talent in music, at least some hints of it. The complexity of the musician’s career depends on the person, because some people find it difficult to be on stage in front of a big audience, and some people find it difficult to sit at the computer for an hour.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

Serkvin finds the opportunity to participate in Signal Festival and his and Nikita’s Asian tour to be a huge highlight in his career.

What are your latest releases?

Prince of Persia.

What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia?

Cafe De Anatolia label does a lot for us, this is one of the few labels where we get a major feedback, which was visible in numbers of streams, listeners and fans. We hope to continue to work with this label.

Are you working on something new?

We are now working on a remix of our friends, and finishing a new EP in the style of afro-house, so twe are going to release about 7 new tracks in 2023.

Where and when is your next performance?

Nikita is set to perform at the Wonderland event in Saint Petersburg, and this summer we are going to Montenegro and Serbia. Serkvin is also preparing for his first performance in Belgrade, Serbia on April 1, 2023.

What’s your process for dealing with performance anxiety?

Serkvin finds his peace of mind in yoga and long walks with the fresh air. Nikita does not usually experience anxiety.

How Covid19 changed the terms of the music industry? How did affected you?

The pandemic opened up new opportunities for online services. People’s attitudes toward music changed and they started listening to more peaceful music. All the artists with slow music gained good numbers of streams during this period. We believe that it’s natural for people to adapt to the changes around them and are very happy that the pandemic is over and people can go to concerts again.

Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?

Serkvin: Don’t be afraid to bring your own ideas to the world of music.

Nikita: Believe and listen to your own self, don’t be seduced to copy someone else’s work, but create something new instead.

IMS Ibiza announce Dalt Vila 2023 at 2,500-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site

International Music Summit (IMS) announces their highly anticipated annual IMS Dalt Vila event in the world’s number one dance music destination, Ibiza. Widely regarded as the starting point of the summer season, the event brings together a unique collection of diverse and exciting DJ talent, both rising and established names who are trailblazing on the international electronic music scene.

Presented in partnership with Pioneer DJ and YouTube, the seven-hour musical celebration marks the closing of the 14th edition of the three-day summit and flagship event of IMS Ibiza 2023.

This unmissable event is held in the old town of Ibiza at the historic 2,500 year-old former fort and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dalt Vila, providing spectacular views of the Catedral de Eivissa with panoramic views of the Mediterranean sea.

IMS Dalt Vila 2023

The IMS Dalt Vila 2023 line-up showcases extraordinary talent with a headline performance by one of the most successful and influential dance acts in music today, the multi-platinum DJ and production duo Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala, better known as CamelPhat. The GRAMMY and Ivor Novello-nominated duo from Liverpool enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the dance music world since breaking through with global hit ‘Cola‘ in 2017. They have continued to evolve their sound, releasing a slew of hits, and becoming one of Beatport’s biggest-selling artists of all time.

Also performing is ANNA, the Brazilian born techno producer and DJ supremo. A skilled and accomplished selector, her performances are always energetic, engaging and captivating. ANNA’s gigs at the legendary Warung Beach Club, D-Edge and Time Warp Brazil in her home country are the stuff of legend. She just announced a new ambient project with Mercury KX / Decca / Universal.

Kölsch, the Danish Kompakt label boss, DJ and producer has rewritten the rulebook of techno production over his two-decade long career will perform back to back with IMS co-host, BBC Radio 1 DJ and broadcaster and iconic figurehead of dance music Pete Tong (MBE).

The pedigree of names continues featuring Drumcode aficionado Ida Engberg back to back with one of the most recognisable and respected seminal DJs of our time Marshall Jefferson, an original innovator in Chicago house and a founding father of house music as it is known today. Marshall was a central figure in the development of the Chicago house scene, Acid and Deep House movements and produced seminal house anthems including ‘Move Your Body‘ which influenced a generation of music makers. Ida has carved herself a career as a DJ/Producer through relentless hard work and passion. Now an internationally recognized talent whose taste for stripped back, sweat-on-the-ceiling techno and her discerning ear for deep house.

For the first time at IMS Dalt Vila two generations of DJs unite as the father-daughter pairing of Layla Benitez and Jellybean Benitez perform back to back. Jellybean Benitez hung out at Studio 54 and worked with some of the world’s most influential artists, including Madonna and Whitney Houston. He will be joined by his daughter Layla who has taken influence from his sound, building in an admiration for classic and cutting-edge melodies, channeling an eclectic mix of deep house, world harmonies and soul sounds.

To complete the unique line up, IMS Ibiza co-host Jaguar will go back to back with emerging talent TAAHLIAH. Jaguar is amongst the new guard of young talent steering UK dance music towards brighter waters. She’s a next-gen tastemaker instigating change through projects such as UTOPIA and The Jaguar Foundation.

She will be joined by TAAHLIAH, an ascending DJ & Producer from Glasgow who has made her name in the underground queer club scenes of Berlin & Glasgow. Crystallising a new dawn in electronic music, TAAHLIAH constantly seems to challenge the idea that fun and experimental are antonyms. Nothing expresses that better than her viral Boiler Room where mainstream EDM & the sharpest edge of contemporary electronic music cohabit on a tracklist that reads like a manifesto for dance music’s future.

Opening the event will be the winner of the Pete Tong DJ Academy Future Talent Awards, an initiative to celebrate the promising upcoming DJ talent from around the world.

IMS Dalt Vila is an extraordinary, unmissable event, providing an unforgettable moment to dance under the stars and kick off the summer season in Ibiza.

The king of rock ballads, Tamino will enchant the masses with new tracks from his most recent album ‘Sahar‘ and for those looking to continue the party until the early hours of the morning, the electronic music supergroup Moderat will be in charge with their usual electronic sounds. Also joining the party is the Brazilian drag queen Pabllo Vittar and her message of sexual liberation, backed by icons like Major Lazer or Charli XCX that will make the Cala Mijas crowd dance to the rhythm of her massive queer pop.

Inviting a taste of Spain from the soil of Granada is Lori Meyers, famous for their Spanish alternative chart toppers. Adding to the acoustics on stage, Charlie Cunnigham is bringing his guitar for a lushly layered arrangement and the Buckinghamshire-born songwriter will cast his autobiographical lyrics from his third album, ‘Frame‘, set to land this March.

Set to further take over the stage with a new psychedelic rock sound, is young American rapper Lil Yachty, after the release of his 2023 album ‘Let’s Start Here‘. Turning up the energy even more with the pop factor festival goers can prepare for nostalgic, electronic pop with the duo Junior Boys and lush dream-pop of mixed folk traditions from Mexican rising star Kevin Kaarl, and the oriental house by the Parisian duo Acid Arab. Additionally forecasting heat on the dance floor is Playback Maracas.

The debut edition of Cala Mijas in 2022 introduced what is already known as the ultimate summer rave taking place at La Caleta stage. This space where both the audience and artists are the main stars has a unique atmosphere that features 360 sound and vivid colours visuals.

Beautifully described by Cormac who will be performing at La Caleta on the 1st of September; ‘What happens on a dance floor is something magical: you can fall in love, you can break your heart, you can flirt, you can dance, you can feel alone or accompanied’.

On an idyllic dance floor surrounded by a eucalyptus forest, the visionary James Holden will present his new album joined by an impressive list of acts including Nicola Cruz, the residents of Panorama Bar (Berghain) and LGTBIQ+ activists Prosumer and Cormac, as well as the talented Italian DJ Budino and the Andalusian Buganvilia.

Call Super could not miss the date after a jaw-dropping set at La Caleta last year, nor could the master of Detroit’s Techno Palms Trax. La Caleta will also welcome one of the new faces of the UK scene Saoirse, the height mixes of Yung Prado, the fusion sounds of the female DJs Topanga Kiddo and Ouri Live. Axel Boman will present his new album with his powerful live show, the sum of Madrid resident Ketiov and NTS’ DJ Moxie, will perform at La Caleta as a completely unconventional b2b set, to which will be added, in different slots, the British I. Jordan and Tom VR and Alvva from San Sebastian. The cherry on top will be the master of the turntables Helena Hauff closing La Caleta on Saturday with her iconic vinyl set.

Rodriguez Jr. Announces New Label And Forthcoming Studio Album, Feathers & Bones

Globally renowned for his wealth of intricate productions and an expansive musical catalogue that strikes the perfect balance between power and grace, award-winning producer Rodriguez Jr. now announces his latest full-length studio album project, Feathers & Bones – set for worldwide release on May 26 via his newly launched imprint of the same name.

An extensive, ten-track opus that dives deep into the Frenchman’s complex sonic identity, Feathers & Bones was recorded over the course of two years, conceptualized while living in Paris and completed from his new home, Miami.

Pivoting towards a new chapter in his illustrious career, the album houses a collection of new Rodriguez Jr. solo productions, two singles with Cuban-American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Liset Alea, his collaboration with multifaceted Italian artist Giorgia Angiuli, as well as an eagerly-anticipated debut collaboration with legendary English hip hop / electronica outfit, Stereo MC‘s.

Following the recent release of Tuning The Moon with Giorgia Angiuli, Rodriguez Jr. reveals the next vocal single to be taken from the album. Teaming up with his wife and Nouvelle Vague collaborator, Liset Alea, Amplify emanates hedonistic grooves across its duration, combining raw bass, celestial synths and Liset’s alluring vocals.

Working together in perfect harmony, this charming creation will leave a lasting impression on the listener. Joining Amplify, Rodriguez Jr. also delivers his first instrumental record in the form of Lithium. Exuding a mysterious atmosphere, the track builds gradually with flurrying synths and eerie pads, pushed along by raw, driving bass.

Speaking about Feathers & Bones, Rodriguez Jr. mentioned:

“Now more than ever, I feel the urgency to explore different formats and genres. Twenty-five years of experience in music production and thousands of shows for diverse audiences all over the world has taught me that the unpredictable is often at the core of every achievement, especially today when dance music has become so formatted. The album is a pivot towards a new chapter of my life and carries the personal alchemy that I seek in my live shows; oscillating between dreamy melodies, ethereal textures and kinetic beats.”

Giving insight into Amplify‘s backstory, Liset Alea said:

“Written in lock-down Paris, a time of deep reflection and dreams of escape, I kept asking myself what takes me beyond the craziness of this world, what makes me vibrate at a higher frequency, what amplifies me? Whatever guarantees my goosebumps, it is definitely sacred and worth writing a song about.”

While some follow trends, others set them. Rodriguez Jr. – also known as Olivier Mateu – has spent over twenty years in the industry; with his vast experience of all genres of electronic music positioning him as the visionary of melodic house and techno that he is today.

With early mentorship from the legendary Laurent Garnier, Rodriguez Jr. gradually honed his style into the dynamic, colourful sound of beauty that can be regularly found on Mobilee, Anjunadeep, Armada, and demanded on remixes for Stephan Bodzin, Monolink, Booka Shade, Eli & Fur, Jan Blomqvist, Röyksopp, NTO, Tricky, Timo Maas, and many more. Dedicated to infusing every ounce of his creativity into his productions and performances, Rodriguez Jr. is undoubtedly one of the scene’s most captivating artists.
