Exclusive interview with DJ & Producer byDJBLVD

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to byDJBLVD, a talented and rising Electronic Dance music producer and DJ with a journey that has taken him from the heart of New York City to international recognition. His signature style, with influences from Funk, Jazz, Soul, and more, sets him apart in the Electronic Dance music landscape.

In this exclusive interview, we’ll get to know the artist behind the music. byDJBLVD shares details about his beginnings, the diverse musical influences that have shaped his unique sound, and his creative approach to music production, as well as, explore how he successfully balances his roles as an artist, consultant, and entrepreneur within the music industry.

Hi byDJBLVD, how are you today?

I’m doing great today, thanks for asking. I’m glad to be sitting down with you, Rave Jungle to tell my story – excited to get into it.

Can you introduce yourself, where are you from and what do you do?

Sure! I’d be glad to introduce myself and give you some background on who I am. My name is Myraan (My-Rin), or “byDJBLVD,” and I’m a 6-year internationally signed electronic music producer and DJ based in New York, USA.

How did you first get started in the music industry, and what inspired you to pursue a career as a DJ and electronic music producer?

I started my journey as an artist manager and marketer in the music industry around 2016. At the same time, I began learning the basics of DJing, and turntablism, and exploring what DJing looked like among various cultures. While my time working with artists and helping them grow their careers was fun, something was missing. It wasn’t as fulfilling to pour into someone else’s musical career when mine was lacking. In 2018, I started to take DJing much more seriously, and since then, I’ve continued to hone my craft and go on to work with some of the world’s most renowned brands, such as Nike, SiriusXM, and more.

As for my music production career, I started in 2021, inspired by my DJ partner, SRRMN, and his last outstanding album, The Black Priest Gospel. I must’ve listened to that album a hundred times by now. I studied his music and went on to explore different artists across Deep, Jackin, Soulful, and Garage House. I ended up releasing my first EP in the Summer of 2021.

Your style incorporates elements of Funk, Jazz, Soul, and more. Can you tell us about the specific musical influences that have shaped your unique sound?

Of course! The range of musical influences and artists that have shaped my production and sound today spreads relatively far. My sound is continuously changing, and I pull from many different places. On any given day, I typically listen to and study Funk and Soul classics with that traditional House, 4-on-the-floor rhythm from around the world.

Melody-wise, lately, my taste has leaned toward learning about the style of many Japanese and Brazilian Funk artists, like Towa Tei and Serginho Meriti. I love the amount of instrumentation and groove these two cultures bring to Funk. Regarding my percussion and drums, I pull inspiration from many new and more household-renowned Electronic artists across Deep, Jackin, and Garage House, such as Kerri Chandler, Sebb Junior, Mike Millrain, and Scott Diaz.

Once I find my groove, I have to throw my flavor on it of course. That comes from within – If I can’t feel the groove, the sound isn’t right for me.

Your diverse release catalog spans multiple sub-genres of House music. Are there any sub-genres that you particularly enjoy working on, and why?

I love producing Jackin House and UK Garage; they feel the most natural. If you listen to my music, most of it has that 2-step feel, even on songs where it feels out of place. I try to get bold by attempting to produce Deep House among other genres, and while those songs are received well, they don’t represent my most authentic work. When I’m producing Jackin House or UKG, I usually bounce in my chair the entire time.

Also, I love the versatility of Jackin House and UKG and how the traditional drum, percussion, and melodies work with so many instrumentation and synth elements. I typically start producing a song by matching my music keys to emotion and thinking about what I want the listener to feel. Whether I’m melancholy or happy and rambunctious, Jackin House and UKG are my typical go-to for putting my authentic self into a song.

To someone new to your music, which track would you suggest listening to first?

Oh, this is a tricky question. It is a whirlwind of different songs for someone new to my music. I typically go with “Baby, Hold Me Tight,” my first signed track under Black Mambo Records in South Africa. It has just enough elements, including vocals, instrumentation, and background ambiance, to appeal to a wide range of listeners who prefer a chill vibe.
If I want to introduce someone new to a more upbeat, “Six Shooter Medley,” released under Mango Sounds in 2022, is great.

What do you believe sets your music productions apart from others in the genre, and how do you approach creating your tracks?

I think what separates my music production from others in the respective sub-genres I produce within is the psychology behind how my tracks are structured. As I mentioned above, when I start building a track, I think about my emotions and what musical key correlates to. After choosing my musical key, I built the instrumentation and melody based on that emotion. For example, my go-to symphony usually revolves around a handful of saxophones when I go for a lively yet soothing and seductive sound. Also, studying a lot of Jazz across the decades, the saxophone was the symbol and voice for Black liberation when Jazz arrived in the States. To me, the saxophone feels freeing.

After my melody and instrumentation are built, the kicks and percussion follow. Deciding how to structure my percussion is the second most challenging part of my production because I must feel the groove. I may listen to the kicks and percussion of my song 1000 times before I decide if it’s the sound I am going for.

Lastly, I bring the bass in, which has always been the hardest. A good bassline will make or break your song – I try to spend the most time here. On average, it takes me about 2-4 weeks to finalize a production I am proud of.

As an artist, consultant, and entrepreneur, how do you manage your time and balance your various roles within the music industry?

The funny thing about this question is that as a multi-faceted individual, I struggle with balancing my time between being an artist, consultant, and entrepreneur. It’s tough to find time to give your 100% to something when you have a million things going on. Over my journey to bettering my time management, I have found that it is best to remember that “Rome was not built in a day.” I remember that it is okay if everything does not get done today. Because God willing, there will be a tomorrow, and I can start fresh or continue.

Can you tell us some of the milestones you’ve achieved so far in your career?

Some of the milestones I’ve accomplished thus far include all of my label signings to some of the most prominent Electronic labels in their respective sub-genres and having the opportunity to collaborate with the world’s largest consumer brands. Above all of that, the continued milestone is reaching new fans and listeners across the globe. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I owe everything to my supporters and team.

Lastly, can you give us a sneak peek into your future projects or upcoming releases that your fans can look forward to?

I’m excited to share some releases in the pipeline with the world very soon. First, I have a new Latin House track, “Good Love,” under Los Angeles-based label House Tribe Records, dropping at the end of September. After that, I have a UKG track, “The Genius is Me,” coming out via Pogo House Records, out of London, UK, on October 13th.

Lastly, to close out the Fall season, I will likely have one or two more Deep House releases under my label, Las Olas Records, toward the end of October and Early November. You can expect at least 5-7 more tracks from me before the end of the year!

The Dutch duo Hel:sløwed unveil their latest production, a powerful new collaboration with Songwriting/Production duo Amber Revival titled ‘If You Only Knew’.

Set for release on Armin van Buuren‘s label, Armind, an imprint of Armada Music, the track showcases the duo’s signature blend of Trance, Melodic and Deep House, delivering a unique sound that is sure to captivate audiences across the globe and propel their name even further to the forefront of the Electronic Music genre.

Having had a busy year so far with several impressive releases and collaborations, including their most recent track ‘Hold Onto This’, which features the vocals of That Girl, the duo has taken the Electronic Music world by storm, impressing fans and demanding attention.

With several years of experience within the genre individually, Misja Helsloot and Michael de Kooker have come together to form Hel:sløwed. Although only just at the beginning of their musical journey, the duo has already made their mark on the genre, with releases on several high profile labels including Spinnin’ Records, Sony Music, and A State of Trance, to name a few.

Now, for this latest production Hel:sløwed have teamed up with Amber Revival, a platinum award-winning duo whose work has enjoyed support from the likes of Nicky Romero, Andrew Rayel, Will Holland and Martin Garrix. Swedish House Mafia have just shared their brand new music video, for their latest track ‘Ray of Solar’

Electronic music powerhouse Swedish House Mafia, the trio of Steve Angello, Axwell, and Sebastian Ingrosso, have just shared their second new single of the post-Paradise Again era, a summer-y slice of digital euphoria appropriately titled “Ray of Solar.”

Already a fixture of recent performances (a clip of the group performing it at Ushuaia Ibiza has been making the rounds online), and bolstered by contributions by Tove Burman, “Ray of Solar” joins the recently released single “See The Light (feat. Friday)” as material that will ultimately serve as the foundation for an anticipated new album.

Here’s what Swedish House Mafia had to say about the release:

“Happy to be back with a song that takes us places! Once we recorded these vocals we really got transcended to space. We listened to it on repeat all night and imagined floating in space. This is the summer record for us and even though we’ve heard it a million times and still feel the power of it, it’s a really special one, the unique vocal with our style of writing melodies makes it special! Doing this together with Tove was incredible as we really felt we gave it a true Nordic sonic landscape. We love every second of it and can’t wait for the world to hear it!”

The single follows in the footsteps of last week’s release of Paradise Again: The Live Album, an expansive career-spanning 22-track documentation of the ambitious tour in support of Paradise Again intended to act as a capstone for that era. The live album is an apt demonstration of the massive success of that era, comprising sold out shows at iconic arenas and stadiums across the globe as well as over 2.5 billion streams for the album worldwide.

Time Warp unveiled the full lineup for its highly anticipated return to New York City, in partnership with long-standing partner and underground events collective, Teksupport. Held on November 17-18th at The Brooklyn Navy Yard, the premier techno festival will be soundtracked by the world’s leading house and techno selectors taking over two massive warehouses for the weekend.

A pillar of the global techno community for the last three decades, Time Warp‘s cultural significance expands far beyond its roots in Mannheim. Setting the standard for world-class electronic event experiences, Time Warp seamless fusion of cutting edge production, progressive lineup curation, and immersive audiovisual experiences strives to create dancefloor havens for its international community.

Keeping with Time Warp‘s visionary approach to sonic curation, this year’s lineup features performances from an array of globally acclaimed techno visionaries including label owner, producer and DJ Nina Kraviz, Berlin-based duo Pan-Pot, Noise Manifesto co-founder Paula Temple, prolific German DJ and producer Klangkuenstler, the Brazilian viral sensation and DC10 star Mochakk, and an electrifying live showcase by Reinier Zonneveld.

Three special back to backs further elevate the billing, with a B2B with Italian techno pioneers Ilario Alicante and Sam Paganni, underground mainstay Joseph Capriati B2B Brazilian icon Vintage Culture, and GOLFOS, comprised of tech house titans PAWSA and Dennis Cruz. Time Warp NYC will be GOLFOS’ second appearance in the city after their NYC debut with Teksupport last October.

The lineup continues with Up The Stuss label head Chris Stussy, French cinematic duo KAS:ST, Italian DJ and producer Adiel, HEKATE Records founder Sara Landry, Miami-based rising star Miluhska, New York native Mink, and Brooklyn-based Aurora Halal.

Time Warp NYC is the third iteration of the festival abroad in 2023, following Time Warp Brazil and Time Warp Chile earlier this year. Time Warp will return to Mannheim for their newly launched Autumn edition, this November 3-4th. Time Warp NYC serves as the last event before their monumental anniversary show in April 2024, celebrating 30 years since the inception of the historic underground festival. This will be the sixth Time Warp to take place in NYC since they debuted in the city with Teksupport.

Teksupport have spent the last decade pushing the boundaries of traditional nightlife in NYC through their cutting edge production, forward-thinking musical curation, and never-before-used locales. The pioneering event visionaries have now expanded beyond NYC to throw events across the nation, positioning themselves as the premiere partner for stateside takeovers from revered global institutions.

‘We Party Right’ by VINNE is part of a collection of specially curated festival releases by Tomorrowland Music leading up to Tomorrowland Brasil, celebrating the return of Tomorrowland to Brazil on October 12-14, 2023 by gathering some of the most prominent artists in electronic music on Tomorrowland’s record imprint.

Here’s what VINNE had to say about the track: “The final version was ready in a few days, but at the same time, it took over a year to complete. The vocal and instrumental were two separate songs that we had been working on for a long time, until a little while ago I realized that they worked much better together than as two separate tracks. It was a new experience for me, like a crazy authorial mashup.”

Amsterdam Dance Event – ADE announce second wave of artists for 2023 edition

With six weeks left until ADE 2023, Amsterdam Dance Event reveals its second wave of artists. Among them are Adam Beyer (SE), Anetha (FR), A-Trak (CA), Black Cadmium (NL), Carista (NL), Charlotte de Witte (BE), Claptone (DE), DJ Heartstring (DE), DJ Holographic (US), Fatima Yamaha (NL), Hardwell (NL), Héctor Oaks (DE), HoneyLuv (US), Interplanetary Criminal (GB), Islandman (TR), JASSS (ES), KI/KI (NL), Parfait (FR), Peggy Gou (DE), Sama Abdulhadi (FR), Van Anh (NL), and many others.

Amsterdam Dance Event runs from October 18—22, 2023 and is the world’s most extensive festival and conference program for electronic music. Live performances have also become a staple of the ADE Festival program in recent years, with venues such as Paradiso, Melkweg, Concertgebouw and others offering a wide variety of live music.

Highlights include the electro organic sounds of jazz quartet ECHT!, Jameszoo in Muziekgebouw, a live performance by Overmono, a one-off concert by Mary Lake and Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest, and many others.

ADE Arts & Culture

Alongside the nighttime festival program, one of ADE’s newest tracks – ADE Arts & Culture – is celebrating its third edition, focusing on a new generation of creators, electronic music’s positive impact, and broadening horizons. The ADE Arts & Culture program ranges from interactive theater pieces such at Nicole Beutler’s ATMEN at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, to the interdisciplinary Gay Guerilla by 24classics at Zuiderkerk, to a film program at venues such as Eye Filmmuseum, Melkweg Cinema, Kriterion and more.

Space 92, shares his thrilling two-tracker ‘Time’

Drumcode welcomes another debutant to the fold, as one of techno’s most exciting new artists, Space 92, shares his thrilling two-tracker ‘Time’.

Space 92’s powerful brand of techno has been a revelation since breaking through in 2020. The artist crafts a sound imbued with silky melodies, distorted percussion and touches of acid, while a long-held love of vintage ‘90s sci-fi is a recurring theme throughout his work. In little over three years, the artist had clocked up seven Beatport no.1’s, dropping a succession of heat on Filth on Acid, Form Music and 1605, collaborating with the likes of HI-LO, POPOF and UMEK along the way.

He’s similarly established himself as one of the most exciting new artists on the touring front, thanks to a new collaborative Live/Hybrid set with POPOF, ‘Popof x Space 92 Present: Turbulences’. Together the Frenchmen debuted the project at Ultra Music Festival Tokyo with audiences so impressed, they’ve since been invited back to play flagship shows at Ulra Seoul, Bali and Miami.

Stepping up for his maiden Drumcode release, ‘Time’ is stirring statement of intent. Staying true to its name, the title track was a slow burner, produced over a number of months between touring commitments. Space 92’s talent for crafting tracks that are tailor-made for big dancefloor moments is seen here in full flight, as tight drum programming leads into a stirring pad sequence before a boshing bass-laden breakdown arrives with crushing effect.

Here’s what Space 92 had to say about the release “I was constantly on tour while making ‘Time’; so, I’d work on it for a while, leave it and then come back and my mood or inspiration would have changed. ‘Time’ carries its name so well, because it literally encompasses a chunk of my life and brings back so many memories.”

‘Voyage’ is a laser-focused gem that builds up plenty of steam throughout the first stanza, before a parade of searing bass stabs give a cheeky nod to the early ‘90s.

“I was born in 1992 so I was unfortunately much too young to have known the golden age of raves. This is perhaps why I’m so attracted to this era. Nostalgia makes it look so much better than it probably was – but the sounds of that era are here with us forever” he added.

Progressive house royalty Matisse & Sadko are revealing their new long-awaited anthem ‘Promise You’, released on Tomorrowland Music!

Teaming up with Canadian vocalist Justin J. Moore, the brothers have created yet another euphoric and uplifting masterpiece, a dreaming-progressive house gem with blissful vocals, a stunning melody and a delirious drop. In true Matisse & Sadko fashion, ‘Promise You‘ fully embodies the duo’s signature style of emotive yet ecstatic and hard-hitting progressive house music.

Matisse & Sadko have solidified their position as some of the most exciting and innovative producers in the electronic dance music scene, already returning to Tomorrowland‘s imprint for their fourth release after ‘Relight My Love‘, ‘Feeling‘ and ‘Lefka‘. After being their most requested ID and playing it out for nearly two years, including during their performances at Tomorrowland in 2022 and 2023, ‘Promise You‘ is now finally out for the world to enjoy!
