Rezz releases her new goth-tinged single ‘Embers’ featuring vocalist Raven Gray

Canadian bass music legend and HypnoVizion label head Rezz releases her new goth-tinged single ‘Embers’ featuring vocalist Raven Gray. ‘Embers’ serves as the third and final single off Rezz’s forthcoming IT’S NOT A PHASE EP, due out this summer.

Swirling with the alternative rock references of her youth and the modern electronic tendencies that have driven her catalog, ‘Embers‘ is a masterful original that embodies the rocktronic genre Rezz has helped forge. Showing the diverse range of her upcoming EP, Rezz wraps Raven Gray‘s angsty vocals with dark guitars, haunting synths, and deep percussive kicks. An emotionally-wrought original from the pair of LGBTQ+ musicians, ‘Embers‘ is timed to coincide with Pride Month.

The third single off her upcoming IT’S NOT A PHASE EP, ‘Embers‘ follows Rezz‘s recent alt-rock anthem ‘Signal‘ with Grabbitz and grunge-tronic collaboration ‘Blue In The Face‘ with Shadient and fknsyd. Another sign that her goth roots are more than just a phase, ‘Embers’ is reminiscent of 2000s rock ballads with the crisp, modern electronic edge omnipresent throughout Rezz‘s productions.

Rezz - Embers

Each track offering a glimpse into the nostalgic punk tones of Rezz‘s teen years complemented by the bass-heavy elements of her signature sound, IT’S NOT A PHASE captures the dichotomy of sonic influences that have defined her.

Regarding the track, Rezz said, “After I heard Raven’s vocal acapella, the instrumental flowed out of me very naturally and quickly. This is a different song than what people would expect from me, but it’s a song I personally love and I’m stoked for it to be a part of IT’S NOT A PHASE.”

Raven Gray added, “When I wrote the lyrics to this song, I was saturated in pain, yet surrounded by hope. ‘Embers’ is about using the glass in my life to build a home. Even when I was lost in the dark clinging onto nothing, there was always a spark in the ashes. I want everyone who listens to remember that. With massive gratitude and love to Rezz and her whole team on my first collaboration of the year I am honored to present ‘Embers’.”

Isabelle Rezazadeh, AKA Rezz, made her massive 2015 debut on Skrillex‘s label OWSLA and has since racked up tens and millions of streams, sold out legendary venues and headlined top festivals around the world. Her sound oozes with originality, striking a balance between bass heavy and minimalist tech production. In recent years she’s graced the cover of Billboard, earned the JUNO Award for Electronic Album of the Year for her Beyond the Senses EP, and in 2022 launched her own label imprint HypnoVizion.

The final piece of her forthcoming EP, Rezz continues to tap into her darker roots with ‘Embers‘, embracing the edgy, shadowy sounds reminiscent of her deep rooted love of punk and emo rock. Enter Rezz‘s rocktronic world and stream ‘Embers‘ ahead of her upcoming goth-themed IT’S NOT A PHASE EP.

Loco Dice’s Desloat imprint returns with first release since 2020

The brainchild of renowned DJ/producer Loco Dice, founded back in 2007, Desolat’s reputation as an imprint for exceptional dancefloor-driven releases from across the house spectrum is near unparalleled – with ‘homegrown’ names such as Yaya and Francisco Allendes and talents such as wAFF and Traumer appearing alongside legends such as DJ Sneak and Luciano, and even tango hero Daniel Melingo since it’s inception.

However, with time comes knowledge of what works best for you and your projects, and with unprecedented factors changing the global norm, the decision to put the label on hold was made – ‘all good things need a break, and the time felt right to pause this great label’.

Focusing on his label En Colour and his own material during lockdown, while planning and plotting the subsequent movements for Desolat, the past few years have seen Dice biding his time and waiting for the right moment to re-introduce the label, and now ‘the music and the time feels right’.

Stepping up with the first artist EP on the label since late 2020, Colombian talent and Miami favourite Cortes drops his first music of the year as he unveils his impactful four-track ‘Dutchmaster’ EP this June.

Cortes Dutchmaster

Title cut ‘Dutchmaster’ opens the EP with an injection of energy as slinking drum grooves meet hooky, warped vocal interjections and bumping bass grooves for a driving cut boasting an abundance of vigour, while ‘Trickin’ uses harsher metallic percussion licks and skittering low-ends for another no-nonsense effort.

Next, ‘Section West’ fuses off-kilter samples and wonky synths with skippy drums, before ‘Eightysix’ wraps things up via resonant leads, restless arrangements and a chunky acid-tinged bassline at its heart.

The full line-up consists of 40% female artists, solo or in bands that are part of or led by women. The LGBTQI community will be represented as well as 16 national artists, including 4 local artists, from the Chelas é o Sítio collective.

Welcoming attendees to be a part of the social development of the neighbourhood where the festival takes place – adding to one of the many initiatives developed by Last Tour. In 2022, the festival hired 200 local residents, as well as inviting 100 artists from the neighbourhood onto the festival stages whilst also donating food and materials at the end of the event.

Meo Kalorama Blur

Other names to highlight include Aphex Twin, Arca, Shygirl, Belle and Sebastian, and the phenomenal FKJ, Ethel Cain and Tamino. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Blaze and M83 will present new records and shows, while José González will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his classic debut album by playing it in its entirety. The decades-awaited return of Siouxie and The Hives, as well as the much-anticipated Pabllo Vittar‘s show.

For the locals and curious international crowds, the Portuguese music contingent will feature Dino D’Santiago, Pongo, Selma Uamusse and Scúru Fitchádu, among many others. 2023 will see the opening of a new onsite space celebrating electronic music, Panorama, which will be the first stage to open and the last to close every day.

In this second edition, Last Tour, the promoter of MEO Kalorama, consolidates the 3 pillars of the festival, Music, Art and Sustainability, after obtaining the prestigious B CORP certification which reinforces the promoter’s commitment to the community and the planet in line with the UN Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

As part of the second pillar of Meo Kalorama, the Art Project will be more ambitious this year. The curatorship of the project and artists involved will be announced soon along with further details about the art installations that will cover not only the stages but will also be distributed around the site.

Sustainability is the third and last pillar, which integrates the festival’s social, environmental and economic impact. This year MEO Kalorama reinforces its sustainability strategy by investing in more artists from the local area to perform at the festival, designating space for deaf people so they can feel and enjoy the music and installing genderless toilets.

Other relevant actions include the donation of food and tickets to disadvantaged people, the contribution of materials at the end of the festival and the commitment of 0% of waste in landfill (in 2022 MEO Kalorama was distinguished as an ECO EVENT by Valorsul, which identifies the festival as a zero waste to landfill event).

The WE ARE MEO KALORAMA community takes shape by celebrating the intersection between cultures, art, sustainability and the people who shape the city of Lisbon. Inspired by the 7 hills of Lisbon, WE ARE MEO KALORAMA shows the perfect blend of what it means to live in Lisbon in 2023: Portuguese and foreigners, visual artists, ceramists, tattooists, booksellers, skaters who find in the Portuguese capital the perfect inspiration and rhythm to create and share their art.

The result is 7 short films that will be available to watch on the festival’s social media channel in the coming weeks. The films tell the story of professional dancer Carlota, Ukrainian tattoo artist Sasha, French ceramist Cécile Mestelan, bookseller and founding partner of the iconic Livraria da Travessa, Rui Campos, the skaters who founded the women’s magazine Betesga Skate Magazine, English painter Helen Butler and the Batukadeiras Orchestra of Portugal, a project part of the Association of Cape Verdean’s Women in the Diaspora in Portugal.

The cast of the second edition of MEO Kalorama, which features national and international names, new and established, reinforces once again the care and meticulous curatorship which marked its debut edition. After its first edition in 2022, MEO Kalorama was awarded THE BEST FESTIVAL OF 2022 by Time Out magazine and Best New Iberian Festival and Best Concert by an International Artist in Portugal (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) at the Iberian Festival Awards. MEO Kalorama is currently nominated as a finalist for the Marketeer 2023 Awards in the category of Art, Culture and Entertainment.

B Jones debuts on Tomorrowland Music with her brand-new dancefloor hit ‘I’ll Keep You High’

Spanish female DJ & producer B Jones is unveiling her brand-new dancefloor anthem ‘I’ll Keep You High’, on Tomorrowland Music! The Ibiza based phenom has curated the ultimate crowd pleaser for an energy-fueled club or festival night, bound to captivate dancefloors in gripping fashion.

The catchy and high-energy track immediately kicks off with lots of percussion, Balearic drums and electric pop beats joined by infectious vocals before turning into a bass-heavy and fresh sounding club stomper with a powerful drop.

In 2022, B Jones made electronic music history as the first Spanish artist in history to perform at the iconic Mainstage of Tomorrowland. This year, the charismatic power woman and Ibiza stronghold has already graced the Mainstage at Tomorrowland Winter, while she’s also set to perform at the Mainstage of Tomorrowland Belgium in July and Tomorrowland Brazil in October, making her one of the few artists that will play at all three Tomorrowland editions in 2023.

B Jones I’ll Keep You High

Speaking about the release B Jones said:

“I’ll Keep You High’ is a fresh and fun commercial dance tune perfect for summer clubs and radio. The Balearic drums on the drop set the groove with high energy bass and sing along vocals, making this record the perfect fusion. I can’t wait to play it at all the festivals during my summer tour and I hope all my fans and DJ colleagues like it as much as I do!”
