Laidback Luke returns to Dark Chanell alias for new ‘New York Five-O’ EP

Esteemed producer Laidback Luke has returned to his techno roots for another top-class offering under his new alias. The second EP from his Dark Chanell project, ‘New York Five-O’ is available to stream worldwide now.

Following on from Dark Chanell debut – the aptly titled ‘No.1’ EP – Luke‘s latest collection will further cement his position as an inimitable techno talent. Diving straight in first single ‘Hutch‘ is a brooding five-minute production, with deftly layered drums and percussive elements that build momentum and drive the track forward.

The second and final track ‘Foxy Town‘ perfectly embodies its name, as Luke brings back the funkier side of the genre, for an electro infused, upbeat soundtrack that was made for the rave.

Once again flexing his production muscle with his latest creative output, it’s clear to see why Luke is regarded as one of the greatest producers in the dance music world today. With the unveiling of his Dark Chanell alias earlier this year, his techno past was a revelation to some, and a much-awaited return for others.

With rapturous support from industry heavyweights and tastemakers alike, the sophomore Dark Chanell EP sees Luke set his intentions for the project, playing with soundscapes from across the techno spectrum to offer a taste of the diverse range of tracks that is still to come from the Dutch stalwart.

Imagine Music Festival announces stellar lineup for its 2021 edition

Live music fans, the globe over, will be converging upon Georgia as Imagine Music Festival brings live music back to life at Bouckaert Farm in the City of Chattahoochee Hills, September 17 – 19, 2021. Livestreams and virtual debuts filled the gap temporarily, but a new chapter for Imagine nears with a more immersive experience, featuring over 70 artists across six stages.

Least not of which is an unprecedented B2B lineup previously not seen live at one festival. Adventure Club B2B Riot Ten; Carnage B2B Borgore; Ghost Rydr (Ghastly B2B Joyryde); Kayzo B2B Subtronics; Virtual Riot B2B Barely Alive; Champagne Drip B2B Luzcid, and a Wakaan Family B2B set, make this one of the most exciting lineups to date.

From headliners to supporters, many artists on the roster have recently released a billet-doux of emotionally-sought lyrics and new melodics that have not been introduced to music lovers in real time—until now.

Subtronics disclosed “String Theory,” Kasbo debuted “The Making of a Paracosm,” and artists such as Illenium, Adventure Club, and Excision have shined a light on upcoming albums with select tracks. The bustling forest paves the way for Gryffin, Kaskade, Madeon, and more to allot beautiful new singles like “Cry,” “Where Did You Go,” and “The Prince.

Imagine Music Festival will be a pivotal event that not only opens the gates for ‘not heard like before tunes,’ but future immersive and live experiences.

Imagine Music Festival 2021 lineup

The excitement we feel as it nears the time to welcome fans onsite is only be matched by the artists who have not been able to perform and have new music to showcase regularly,” says Imagine Festival co-founder Glenn Goodhand.

We cannot think of a better venue to welcome fans back to music than Imagine.

With few ticket levels still available, there are still camping packages ready for purchase. New for 2021, Car Camping Passes are now sold on a per car basis rather than per person. As an extension, Imagine Music Festival now offers a Companion Camping Pass which allows attendees to join and share a campsite with friends.

Tent-Only Camping Passes are now available, which comes with two GA Camping Wristbands and one 10×15 campsite. VIP Car Camping, Thursday Early Arrival Passes, and more parking options are available.

Is your MDMA pure? Learn About MDMA Safety on Psychable

fake mdma
Is your MDMA pure?

MDMA (4-Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) is a synthetic psychoactive substance, also known as molly, ecstasy, or E. Its effects are both stimulating and hallucinogenic, producing feelings of euphoria and empathy for others. Psychable is an online community committed to providing free resources on all things related to psychedelics, offers a number of free resources related to MDMA.

MDMA has been studied in the psychotherapeutic environment for decades, but it has also been a popular underground recreational drug. It was banned for personal use in 1985 after American politics became more focused on waging a ‘War on Drugs.’

Recreational use of MDMA continued nonetheless and remains common among members of nightlife scenes, festival attendees, and other communities. Unfortunately, the purity of illegally obtained MDMA can not be assumed: it is one of the most likely drugs to be adulterated with a number of different substances that are frequently unknown to the consumer.

Here is what everyone should know about MDMA adulteration, the risks of possible contaminants, and how to tell if a sample is pure.

Jemie Sae Koo, Psychable CEO and Co-Founder
Is MDMA the same as molly or ecstasy?

Yes and no. Molly and ecstasy are casual terms that assume synonymity with MDMA but are used by recreational consumers and not the scientific community.

“Molly, ecstasy, and MDMA sold illegally are likely to be contaminated with other substances that could potentially inflict harm depending on the circumstances,” explains Jemie Sae Koo Psychable CEO and Co-Founder.

“While some are shown to be pure, many samples tested have revealed no MDMA content whatsoever in these drugs. Consumers are often unaware of the actual content of MDMA they acquire outside of a clinical environment.”

Common MDMA contaminants

Contamination is difficult to avoid given the heavy regulations on the drug, which arguably worsen the problem of adulteration as MDMA is produced clandestinely in homemade labs with no accountability for quality or purity.

Generally speaking, non-clinical MDMA samples have been known to contain cannabinoids, opioids, depressants, tranquilizers, stimulants, dissociatives, psychedelics, general non-psychoactive ingredients as well as unidentified substances. In a 2014 survey, almost half of the samples contained no MDMA whatsoever.

Some of the most common contaminants found in samples of MDMA sold underground include stimulants like amphetamine, methamphetamine, caffeine, cocaine, and methylene-dioxyamphetamine (also known as bath salts). N-methoxybenzyl, N-Ethylpentylone, PMA (paramethoxyamphetamine) are a few other dangerous contaminants that may mimic the expected effects of MDMA with increased energy and confidence.

Underground MDMA samples have also revealed traces of anesthetics. Dextromethorphan (DXM) is common; it is an ingredient in over-the-counter cough medicines. Ketamine, a psychoactive substance that can cause feelings of dissociation, has also been found.

Risks of contaminated MDMA or combination with other substances

It is rare to see cases of overdose or extreme toxicity when MDMA is the sole substance consumed, however, most incidences of illness related to MDMA (not related to existing health issues or environmental factors) involve contaminants or polydrug use. Whether ingestion of other substances is inadvertent or intentional, there are serious potential risks associated with mixing MDMA with other drugs.

MDMA should not be taken with antidepressants or other drugs that affect the output or reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin due to risks of neurotoxicity and damage to the receptors.

MDMA increases blood pressure and heart rate, which can be dangerous when combined with other stimulant drugs. Additional stimulants may also increase the likelihood of negative effects such as anxiety. People with high blood pressure or heart conditions are particularly at risk.

MDMA also causes an increase in body temperature. This can cause complications from either dehydration or excessive fluid intake, and both can be dangerous if either condition is severe. Consumption of alcohol in combination with MDMA can worsen dehydration as it causes more frequent urination. Excess water intake can cause low blood sodium levels, causing headaches, nausea, and poor balance (seizures are a rare but serious possibility).

When MDMA is contaminated with substances that cause impaired judgment or temporary disconnectedness from reality (such as tranquilizers, hallucinogens, and ketamine), the consumer can be less aware of the severity of dangerous symptoms or become paranoid about the legal ramifications of illicit use, making it less likely that they will seek help immediately.

Most conditions related to MDMA contamination are treatable, but it is crucial for the consumer and their companions to remain aware of any dangerous symptoms and seek emergency medical attention as soon as possible. If someone shows signs of dehydration, confusion, impaired balance, anxiety, or a rapid heart rate, call 911.

How to tell if MDMA is pure

“It’s not enough to take someone’s word for it: the only way to be sure of MDMA’s purity is to test it,” explains Matt Zemon, Psychable Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder.

There are home test kits that use liquid chemical reagents to help determine the contents of an MDMA sample. These kits can be ordered online, but not many consumers opt to use them for several reasons. First, there is the additional cost and effort required. Second, home test kits are somewhat notorious for inaccuracy, which might cause the consumer to question the point of testing in the first place.

Then, there is the reality that test kits are considered drug paraphernalia and are therefore potentially incriminating in certain geographical areas. This is unfortunate, as there is growing evidence that harm reduction tools such as home test kits serve to either dissuade a consumer from taking a drug or at least influence a decision to take a smaller dose when contaminants are discovered in a sample.

The best and most accurate form of testing is chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The Erowid Center offers this service anonymously, publishing the results of a submitted sample once testing is complete. There is currently a $100 fee for testing molly and ecstasy samples, however, it is a worthwhile investment in the name of safety.

Matt Zemon, Psychable Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder
Harm reduction

Strict drug laws and the police enforcement that comes along with them have proven to be ineffective methods of deterring illegal drug use or reducing the number of emergency medical incidents associated with contaminated MDMA. In contrast, harm reduction efforts have demonstrated promise in this area.

Some harm reduction efforts have included on-site drug sample testing and healthcare professionals available to provide education at public events, as well as access to clean water, proper ventilation or designated relaxation areas, and trained volunteers and staff members.

Outside of the public event sphere, it has been argued that decriminalization of certain drugs may help reduce the harm inflicted by dangerous contaminants by eliminating some fear of repercussions from law enforcement, allowing those in possession to instead pay fines and receive education or substance abuse support services.

Closing thoughts

If a person has any question as to the purity of an MDMA sample, it is better to be safe than sorry. The adulteration of MDMA is remarkably common and can have dangerous effects. The only way to determine the actual contents of MDMA obtained outside of a clinical trial setting is to test it. It is never a good idea to purchase drugs illegally from anyone, regardless of how pure they claim a dose to be.

Roth successfully pivoted to family fare, hosting Discovery Channel’s popular ‘Shark Week’.

‘FIN’ is Roth’s first documentary, a passion project he has spent the past five years making, after becoming aware of the plight during his time hosting ‘Shark Week’. After turning pro in 2016, again it took her just one year to achieve her first professional victory. She won the 2017 edition of Ironman Lanzarote by demolishing the field in a course record time. Pyramid Ibiza announces huge 2021 closing party

Pyramid Amnesia Ibiza

As Ibiza is added to the safe travel list, Amnesia continues to announce its much anticipated season in reverse. Next up is Pyramid’s sure-to-be historic 2021 closing party on Sunday, October 10th.

This always legendary event will be headlined on the Terraza by firm favourites Ricardo Villalobos & Luciano, KiNK (live), Mar-T, and in the Club by Nina Kraviz, Dax J, Anetha and Luca Donzelli. Despite the current pandemic, Amnesia has worked hard to pull together two rooms of the world’s most elite DJing stars. This Pyramid closing party is proof of that, but there is much more to come in August, September and October.

In just a few short years, Pyramid has shaken up the Ibiza landscape. The Monday night party moved to Sundays in 2020 with some mega line-ups that sadly never came to be. But before that, it had already recaptured some of the island’s early glory days with a focus on the music first and foremost.

At Pyramid, people are there to dance until the sun comes up and beyond. The night is synonymous with only the most globally acclaimed DJs and loved for its mind-blowing production. Each party is a sensory explosion with cutting-edge technology, organic materials and immersive audiovisuals that truly offer something unique. After too long away because of the pandemic, this closing show is sure to be a celebration like no other.

Fittingly, then, the world’s most iconic DJs will headline the famous Terraza. Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano have already sold out their show at Cova Santa, and are official Pyramid ambassadors. They will play together for a set of mind-warping techno that will show off the dexterous DJ skills and unpredictable selections that have made them real Pyramid favourites. Joining them is Bulgarian live wizard KiNK, who cooks up electrifying sets of impromptu techno on his vast array of synths and drum machines. It is one of dance music’s most amazing spectacles and cannot be missed. Lastly comes Mar-T, the long-time Amnesia resident, a DJ who knows the club’s crowds and sounds inside out, and who never fails to amaze.

In the Club is new school techno queen Nina Kraviz. The DJ, producer and Trip label boss has innovated the techno world in recent years and can do anything from deep, pulsing, acid-laced rollers to raved-up sounds that leave the dance floor in awe. Dax J is a London-born, Berlin-based artist who is the quintessential DJ in every sense. The Monnom Black label boss has a famously raw and individual take on techno that never lets up. Meanwhile, Anetha is a Parisian techno mainstay and Blocaus resident who has risen to the top with her forward thinking sounds. Lastly, Italian Luca Donzell is of course the second Amnesia resident known the world over for lighting up the world-famous super club with his storytelling sets of house and techno.

The Pyramid closing party is one of the real must-attend events in Ibiza. After the 18 months everyone has had, this one is set to be even more special than ever before.

Octan Ibiza unveils new-look roof terrace ahead of Summer opening

Octan Ibiza has spent the many months of Covid-closure working hard to refurbish its famous open-air Terrace, as well as planning a big return to dancing once restrictions are lifted later this summer.

There is already a big programme in place for as soon as the club opens. As usual, you can expect that the world’s best house and techno DJs will play, with line-ups coming as soon as restrictions are lifted and the Ibiza government makes a full announcement of their plans.

In 2019, the brand new Octan quickly established itself as a White Island favourite for those looking for a more underground experience. It boasted a first-ever weekly Apollonia residency with Planet Claire as well as parties like Steve Lawler‘s Warriors. With a bold exterior featuring expressive artwork that immediately stands apart, the club has three spaces – The Lab, The Basement and The Terrace.

The Terrace has been refurbished and repainted in the last year. It now boasts a central 25m square bar that makes it much easier to order drinks. It also brings everyone together in the middle of the terrace for an extra cosy vibe and lively atmosphere beneath a clear-blue Ibiza sky.

The walls are adorned with colourful designs from acclaimed Leeds artist Nicholas Dixon, and also contain the hustle and bustle of the crowd who will be chilling and drinking outside. There is now also a large seating area with some suspended shade from the beating sun, just in case you need to take a break from the main action.

Meanwhile, the club’s Basement is the perfect underground space for those who like it dark and raw. It has low ceilings and a world-class sound system with sleek and stripped back styling.

The Lab is the third and final space with its own low key and immersive lighting making it an atmospheric space of pure hedonism. Winter will see the Basement and Lab spaces get further updates ready for a big comeback and full capacity parties from May – October 2022. Tickets: http://octanibiza.com/
