BSH Island becomes first Festival in Europe following lockdown

BSH Island

Despite the current state of the world, a small brand with a strong local following decided to do what everyone else was afraid of doing, and that was to keep the good times rolling in a world filled with as many uncertainties as ever.

So, coming out of lockdown, BSH Events had one goal, and one goal only, and that was to never stop dancing despite the music industry taking a massive hit, as most festivals around the world have been postponed until 2021.

Undeniably, the cards were stacked against this Croatian brand, which has been throwing some of the best parties at some of the unique locations across the country since 2013. For a brand that has gained a loyal fanbase thanks to their unique approach to venue selection as well as a genuine love for music, scaling up to a project, this initiative seemed very ambitious. Not to mention they had to make sure that the festival abides by all epidemiological measures necessary.

But nonetheless, the BSH boys got to work and against all the odds setting up a star-studded 4-day long BSH Island music festival in beautiful Croatia, on the amazing Island of Pag lasting from the 9th until the 12th of July. Island locals have dubbed Croatia’s Ibiza due to its beautiful beaches and amazing nightlife, bound to take any visitor on an unforgettable musical journey.

The same island whose clubs on Zrce Beach have raised generations of ravers and party enthusiasts ever since the opening of Kalypso in 1987. The same club that will be hosting the official BSH Island Afterparties, along with the festival’s main venue Noa Beach Club, a club that literally stands on water, and features a newly built and already sold-out Noa Glamping Resort, whose luxurious villas with swimming pools and a breath-taking view of the Adriatic, will be accommodating the festival attendees. Throughout its younger history, the club has hosted reputable festivals such as Sonus and Hideout and had some of the world’s most famous artists perform there.

The artists ready to rock the house this summer’s BSH Island festival at Noa Beach Club are nothing short of spectacular, to say the least… The festival’s main headliners are international superstars, the likes of ARTBAT, Paco Osuna, Richy Ahmed, and Honey Dijon.

In addition to that, the festival’s opening will be headlined by Manchester-based brand, Kaluki, whose performances are in demand from Ibiza to Miami. On top of bringing us one of the headliners in Richy Ahmed, they are bringing along Pirate Copy, Joey Daniel, Ki Creighton, and BSH Events‘ own, Pablo Panda. Kaluki are frequent guests at some of the most popular festivals such as Parklife in England, the BPM Festival held this year in Costa Rica, and many others. Their debut in Croatia could potentially mean more Ibiza based brands coming to Croatia.

In an effort to expand on the musical experience, BSH Events has involved Under No Illusion Recordings, which will also showcase the likes of Andrew Meller, Tolstoi, and Viktor on top of a special Pirate Copy b2b Ki Creighton show.

Supporting the star-studded lineup will be upcoming local artists listed in no particular order such as PEZNT, Aldo Morro, Dea Tosh, Tom Bug, Goran Starcevic, Full ferry, Yakka, Inav Coste, Kali, Mike&Me, Mony, Tino Simich, Urban Pfeifer, DJ Jock, Shipe, Senno, Sin, Sonnet, Halaus, Neroa b2b Damian Leboss, and Stanky Baby. Some of these artists will be showcasing their tunes on Sunday at Mixmag Adria‘s daytime stage as well.

The festival has already sold more than 1500 tickets in record time. In addition to that, the total number of attendees expected is around 4000 in total, proving that the hype around BSH Island is real. And with a quality lineup on a beautiful island, it is the perfect musical experience for anyone looking to enjoy the beauties of the Croatian coast, so it is not surprising that European dance lovers are truly eager to go.

Moreover, the festival hopes to spark the Croatian tourist economy by organizing and referring its guests to supplementary vacation activities in order to let the festival-goers explore the amazing wonders of the Adriatic Sea.

The official pre-party for the festival happened on the 21st of June at Mint Club in Zagreb and left visitors ecstatic thanks to the performance put on by British DJ and producer Richy Ahmed, who will be returning to make his BSH Island festival debut.

Joachim Pastor drops first single on Armada Music: ‘Sol Invictus’

A mere nine days after officially joining the artist roster of Armada Music, Joachim Pastor has released his first single on the Amsterdam-, New York- and London-based record label.

Going by the name of ‘Sol Invictus‘, the record sees the French DJ and producer push his trademark touch of electronica further into the limelight as he slowly builds toward the release of his upcoming debut album.

A particularly captivating journey in and of itself, ‘Sol Invictus‘ is a sterling example of a debut record done right. Decked out with melancholic chords and shuffling beats that play catch with the frolicking arpeggios in between, this record underscores the innate musicality of Joachim Pastor and the timelessness of his trademark sound.

Joachim Pastor: “What is more universal than the sun? When I made this track, the idea was to musically describe a space travel to the sun. The beginning is dark and empty, but as you get closer to the sun, the melodies are becoming richer, brighter and powerful. The themes are constantly evolving. No matter what happens in our lives, there is one constant that will never change: ‘Sol Invictus‘.”

Inspired by the works of seminal artists such as Daft Punk, Sonata Arctica and Jean-Michel Jarre, Joachim Pastor‘s melodious brand of electronica offers a sense of sophistication not easily found in today’s music world.

Designed to make listeners feel with every fiber of their being, his music is an expression of emotion with a danceable twist, endorsed by hundreds of thousands of fans on Spotify alone as well as those who witnessed his performances at the likes of Dour, Tomorrowland, Paleo, Olympia, Solidays, DGTL, Pleinvrees and more.

Maceo Plex remixes Perry Farrell’s ‘Let’s All Pray For This World’

Originally premiered on BBC Radio 1 by Pete Tong, Techno DJ and producer, Maceo Plex unveils his latest single – Two official remixes of Perry Farrell’s ‘Let’s All Pray For This World’.

Holding a deep admiration for the work of Perry Farrell along with taking part of his name from the Jane’s Addiction track, ‘My Cat’s Name Is Maceo‘, ‘Let’s All Pray For This World‘ (Maceo Plex Remixes) are available to purchase and stream from today.

World-renowned musician Perry Farrell has been at the forefront of music, culture and festivals for over 30 years. The American trendsetter and frontman of Jane’s Addiction has had a lifelong passion for dance music, citing influences throughout his career and being a pivotal figure in the setting up of the highly regarded ‘Lollapalooza festival‘ which spans seven countries.

He returns in 2020 with whispers of a very special retrospective project in the making, and enlists Maceo Plex for two contrasting remixes of ‘Let’s All Pray For This World‘.

Featuring an electro mix that channels the aura of classic Detroit electro, tremulating vocal samples drift across syncopated 808 kicks and crisp, piercing hi-hats. Rolling toms and eerie synth pads bolster the timeless vocals of Perry Farrell throughout the uplifting blend of euphoric keys and deep, growling low-end.

Reimagining the track into a second remix, which was premiered and described by BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong as “The perfectly titled, Maceo Plex’s ‘Glitchy’ remix of Perry Farrell’s ‘Let’s All Pray For This World’“, Maceo Plex dives into his trademark sounds, merging a driving 4/4 kick drum with audio glitches. Complimented by small snippets of the anthemic chorus, the hard-hitting dance floor remix is a true rework of the original.

With both official remixes released now, the single has received a flurry of early support from industry peers and like-minded artists, including Rob da Bank, Danny Howard, Anja Schneider, Danny Rampling, John Digweed, R&S Records founder Renaat Vandepapeliere and many more.

The leading electronic producer, artist and live act, Maceo Plex‘s accolades are in abundance. The figurehead behind the seminal underground label, ‘Ellum Audio‘, Maceo Plex has released four studio albums, mix compilations for London’s fabric and !K7’s DJ-Kicks series, along with an impressive catalogue of productions under his Mariel Ito and Maetrik aliases.

Along with curating several BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix’s, headlining global festivals and gracing the cover of many a magazine from Mixmag to DJ Mag, Maceo Plex has also remixed artists including Coldcut, Röyksopp, GusGus, DJ T, Maribou State and more. Most recently, Maceo Plex has set plans in motion to launch a new multidimensional sensory, live show experience titled ‘‘.

Fatboy Slim’s ‘Sunset (Bird of Prey)’ receives a fresh dancefloor rework

img via Exit Festival

Originally released in October of 2000, as the first single from critically acclaimed Fatboy Slim album ‘Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars’, ‘Sunset (Bird of Prey)’ receives a fresh dancefloor rework with London based disco collective, Horse Meat Disco’s ‘Clouds In The Sky’ remix.

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of an original Big Beat anthem that saluted in Norman Cook‘s third studio album, the remix is officially out, keeping the Glastonbury spirit alive as it coincides with the date Fatboy Slim would have been headlining The Other Stage.

With a high-level of mutual respect between the two artists, Horse Meat Disco were approached by Norman to remix this classic and definitive single. The four-strong collective have breathed new life into the Big Beat classic, repurposing it for 2020’s airwaves.

A name ingrained into the UK House and Dance music scene and ringmaster of the Acid House generation, Fatboy Slim has long since established himself as world-wide party phenomenon. With a career that spans over 35 years, 4-studio albums, countless singles and tours across the globe, he formed into an idol for many of the DJ’s we see gracing the stages today, one of those being London disco collective Horse Meat Disco.

Since 2004, the quartet consisting of four members Luke Howard, Severino Panzetta, James Hillard and Jim Stanton, have pledged to resuscitate the original dance music scene and promote their brand of Disco shenanigans to a world-wide platform.

Holding residences across the world, they have continued to re-structure the clubbing pyramid as creative, freewheeling bastions of the disco era. From Boiler Room regulars to Channel 4, from Rinse FM to a BBC Radio 1 ‘Essential Mix’ the group have continuously developed their craft, honing they sights on their first studio album, ‘Love and Dancing‘ coming later this year; a record gilded with the fleet-footed spirit of their disco forebears.

Horse Meat Disco aim their remix firmly at the dancefloors of the world and bring ‘Sunset (Bird of Prey)‘ soaring into 2020 with their ‘Clouds In The Sky‘ remix.

Fatboy Slim – ‘Sunset (Bird of Prey)‘ (Horse Meat Disco‘s Clouds In The Sky Remix) is available now on digital platforms and 29th August on Vinyl via Skint Records (BMG).

Armin van Buuren unveils ‘Hollow’, his new collaboration with AVIRA feat. Be No Rain

When the haunting tones of ‘Hollow’ first popped up on the radar as an ID – ID, few could’ve guessed that Armin van Buuren and AVIRA were the ones responsible. Also featuring British singer-songwriter Be No Rain, the record sees the five-time #1 DJ in the world explore new ground in tandem with Canadian rising star AVIRA, using their unique perspectives to great effect.

Hollow‘ shows a remarkable synergy between the respective sounds of its creators. Dragging listeners in with its dark synth lines and the characteristic vocals of London’s Be No Rain, this record offers that touch of sophistication that pushes listeners to find out what else lies beneath the surface.

Here’s what Armin van Buuren had to say about ‘Hollow‘:

I’ve been a big fan of the Melodic Techno/Tech House scene, as you’ve all probably heard during my warm-up set for A State Of Trance 950. It has inspired me so much that I wanted to explore that sound myself, and I loved the amazing records AVIRA put out on Armada Music recently.

I contacted him to see if he would be interested in working together on a new record and I was stoked when he said yes.’Hollow’ is what we made of it, and I couldn’t be happier with the end result.

Armin van Buuren AVIRA – Hollow feat Be No Rain

AVIRA: “The idea for ‘Hollow’ was to bridge a gap between all dance music lovers. Whether they’re into progressive house, melodic techno or trance, we wanted to take the listeners on a journey of our vision for the future of dance music. ‘Hollow’ turned out exactly the way we wanted and is a great start to all things still to come.

Be No Rain: “The instrumental that Armin and AVIRA sent me had such a beautiful contour, it moved from total sparsity to something harmonically opulent. I thought it sounded like the process of salvation that can be triggered by love.

The lyrics are about a man who feels severed from the world around him. Slowly he’s coaxed out of this alienation by the love that he’s found. As the richness of the final chord progression seeps in, he finds himself restored and the vocals give way to the pure, joyous catharsis of the drop.

Reinier Zonneveld releases sublime remix of Jones & Stephenson’s ‘The First Rebirth’

Reinier Zonneveld

Techno DJ and producer Reinier Zonneveld is back with another brilliant rework of a true classic. After remixing ‘Resurrection’ by Edward Artemiev, Reinier is now revealing his spin on the iconic trance classic ‘The First Rebirth’ by Jones & Stephenson.

The release is a collaboration between his very own label Filth On Acid and the legendary Bonzai Records. This is the second collaboration of the two imprints, after having released Bart Skils‘ remix of ‘Universal Nation‘ last September.

The huge track portrays real power with its slamming drums. The synths ripple up top as the groove rolls on and tripped out keys and chords bring the colour. For all of the hardcore techno fanatics who have rave energy to spare, this track is definitely one for you.

The previous release of Reinier Zonneveld in January, the remix of “Resurrection” by Edward Artemiev, hit the number 1 spot and this brand-new remix promises to follow in its footsteps.

Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper’s ‘Get Over U’ gets a rework from Tedd Patterson and Chambray

There have been many house music partnerships over the years, think Masters at Work, Hot Natured, Sasha and Digweed. They can be a powerful force, as too were ‘Directors Cut’ a production and writing partnership between Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper.

Both already regarded as legendary and established DJs in the world scene, they produced outstanding output together until the sad passing of Frankie Knuckles in 2014. An album of their collective work was released last year entitled ‘The Directors Cut Collection‘.

SoSure Music now release a remix package of their production ‘Get Over U‘ feat. B Slade. The original was a slice of euphoric, anthemic vocal house and has now received a contemporary rework from two of house music finest and respected spinners; the legendary US DJ Tedd Patterson and Berlin-based Chambray.

Two very different mixes by very different and unique artists. Chambray is the alias of André Rost who has previously delivered a range of dancefloor bombs and worked with the likes of Laurent Garnier and DJ Haus while establishing himself as a respected name in underground music. Here he delivers an energetic and contemporary House meets disco rework, bright and uplifting with piano stabs, electronic claps and brilliantly reworked vocals.

Tedd Patterson has earned the title of House Music royalty and is regarded as one of the best-known house DJs in the world. Spinning since the late 70s, he has set standards in the scene from the very beginning. With a huge, global fan base but also a career of impressive breadth and longevity, he has headlined Ministry of Sound in London, Pacha in Ibiza, and Panorama Bar in Berlin.

Here with his remix, he delivers both a vocal and instrumental retaining the classic house feel, verging into 70s disco territory with big strings and jazz influences. Altogether it is feel good house at its best.

Both remixes pay homage to the original, whilst bringing a fresh new direction and would no doubt receive the seal of approval and be played by Frankie himself.
