Paul Kalkbrenner announces ‘Speak Up’ EP and releases new studio session video

Paul Kalkbrenner

Paul Kalkbrenner came of age in East Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall, when techno arrived in the city. His two plus decade career is intertwined with the genre that emerged from Detroit and became a global cultural force.

Paul’s grand techno sound has seen him fill stadiums and top charts, yet this new EP is deeply club focused music. It’s evidently Kalkbrenner, but ‘Speak Up‘ is also lean and hard, its four tracks that return Paul to his rave roots, music for late nights, dancing in the dark.

Laser In‘ opens the EP, with a broken beat sound. It’s all drums, skittery and distorted sounds that coalesce as the track moves along. It’s is a spikey track, dancey punk; it’s almost the opposite of ‘Eyes Open‘, whose dark, squelchy and warm synths and melodies envelop you and pull you deeper.

Paul Kalkbrenner Speak Up

Check Yourself‘ is pure techno, propulsive, percussive, frantic and big. It’s music centered around the kick drum, an anthem designed to move a dancefloor. The EP closes with ‘Speak Up‘, an example of what Paul does best when working with vocals. The track is simple, haunting and beautiful, full of melody and warmth, but minimally produced. ‘Speak Up‘ follows the recent success of Kalkbrenner‘s last vocal single ‘No Goodbye‘, which has received over 15 million streams to date.

Paul’s ‘Speak Up‘ EP will be available as a limited edition vinyl – only 500 copies available worldwide on June 5th and it will feature an exclusive extended version of ‘Speak Up‘. The vinyl pre-sale begins May 22nd.

Gary Gautier, CEO of Casa Batlló, said, “We believe that reinvention is essential in these uncertain times with the cessation of the cultural activity of our Heritage. For this reason, it is worth keeping alive any activity that encourages people’s intellectual, artistic and emotional growth.

These virtually immersive shows follow the success of elrow Home Sessions powered by Desperados, a series of live stream DJ sessions that offered 1.5 hours of energetic distraction every Sunday in April and early May. The sessions reached over 31.2 million partygoers around the world, who engaged with 15 DJs playing from 15 different homes.

As social distancing guidelines continue to shape our lives and social adventures, we wanted to offer consumers a platform where they can still experience an epic party while connecting with people from around the world.

Desperados is committed to move the party world forward through creativity and innovation, and so we’ve shifted our strategy to be digital first, connecting partygoers on social channels and unleashing unique experiences with our long-term partner elrow. With partying in our DNA and a shared passion with elrow, together we’re proud to put on interactive live streamed parties that redefine how parties can be experienced.

Juan Arnau Jr, CEO, and Cruz Arnau, Marketing Director, elrow, said:

Armand Van Helden, Solardo and Hervé release brand new single, ‘Power of Bass’

Dance music legend Armand Van Helden has joined forces with Manchester duo Solardo and Cheap Thrills label head Hervé on new collaborative single ’Power Of Bass’.

A soulful club heater underpinned by soaring female vocals and deep, punchy bass, ’Power Of Bass‘ is a track that possesses all the necessary attributes for causing serious damage on the dancefloor.

We felt the original track had a great vocal to it but needed an injection of our style. We stripped it right back and dropped a massive acid line in it and we think we created a monster….we hope it gets to see some clubs soon” Solardo explain.

With a career spanning three decades, Armand Van Helden is one of house music’s most recognisable figures, receiving Grammy nominations and topping the UK Singles charts on no fewer than four occasions. More recently he has revived his Duck Sauce project, a collaboration with fellow dance music don A-Trak, to release singles ‘Captain Duck’ and ‘I Don’t Mind’.

Solardo have carried their domination of the scene into the new decade after a 2019 that saw them deliver one of the s ongs of summer with the mammoth ’XTC‘. A collaboration with Eli Brown, the track received support from Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 as well as club favourites Richy Ahmed, Denis Sulta and Carl Cox. The boys also embarked on their BODYWORKS residency, a weekly party alongside CamelPhat and FISHER at Hi Ibiza.

To aid isolation, Solardo now host a weekly ’Saturday Night Live‘ series, a themed live-stream which takes place each Saturday on their Facebook from 8:00pm GMT.

Coined by DJ Mag as one of the top ten remixers of all time, Hervé has built a reputation around his bass-oriented brand of dance music. As well as having huge club hits under his belt such as ’Cheap Thrills‘ on Ministry of Sound and ’Together‘ on AATW, Hervé has remixed everyone from Beyonce to the Chemical Brothers; his 2009 Ghetto Bass compilation being the biggest selling independent dance compilation of that year. Hervé has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Armand Van Helden, Meridian Dan,Zebra Katz and Kelly Lee Owens, most recently dropping his Hallucinated Surf album back in 2016.

A unique collab between four artists who are massively successful in their own right, ’Power Of Bass‘ is primed to be one of summer 2020’s biggest dance tunes.

Moscoman links up with WOOZE on new single ‘Eyes Wide Strut’

Moscoman

Israel-born DJ and producer Moscoman has collaborated with London-based duo WOOZE on new single ‘Eyes Wide Strut’.

Underpinned by an insatiably funky bassline, ‘Eyes Wide Strut‘ announces itself with the unique vocal prowess of WOOZE, which then makes way for Moscoman‘s meticulous-yet-effortless production – harnessing a retro feel while remaining remarkably fresh-sounding.

Moscoman explains: “This is inspired by an Israeli song ‘I Don’t Dance When I’m Sad’, for some reason it moved me to create this one, a very climactic tune with super juxtaposed lyrics written by the amazing WOOZE boys.

They have also dropped an immersive, 80s-inspired official video for the track which sees the WOOZE boys posing flamboyantly while kitted out in eye-catching orange attire – an ideal visual representation of the retro vibe that the track communicates.

Eyes Wide Strut‘ will feature on Moscoman‘s forthcoming album Time Slips Away, which he explains is “inspired by the highs and lows of my touring life – the amazing gigs, the shitty ones. The opportunity to see the world vs the crazy traveling schedules and lack of sleep”. So far this year, the Berlin-based artist has released two singles from the album – ‘Back Again‘ and ‘What Do We Care‘ with Teleman and Tom Sanders which also includes a remix from Gerd Janson.

Born Chen Moscovici, Moscoman spent most of his life in Tel Aviv and released on labels such as Eskimo, ESP Institute, DIYnamic and Correspondent, but it was a move back to Berlin a couple of years ago which really pushed things forward. “It was a great place to step back and overlook my whole life,” he explains. “I didn’t have time before to sit down and think where I was going. Now I see the wider picture.”

Rising stars on the indie circuit, WOOZE draw the listener in with their unique lyricism and genre-bending sound. They describe themselves as ‘Pansori for the 21st century’, a traditional Korean music genre that consists of a drummer and singer storytelling through music. Continuing their ascent through the ranks, they have received support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, Mixmag Korea and Australia’s Triple J.

An infectious slice of Eastern-inspired funk, ‘Eyes Wide Strut‘ sees Moscoman demonstrating his versatility as a producer.

Ellen Allien release ‘True Romantics’ & ‘Hello’ ahead of new album!

Photo: Thilo Rückeis

Taken from her album Auraa, Ellen Allien’s ‘True Romantics’ and ‘Hello’ make up a compelling double header. Auraa is Ellen’s latest album project, inspired by the notion that we are not alone in this realm, exploring the possibilities of unseen entities cohabiting with us in our mortal plane.

True Romantics‘ operates at full canter, the beats percolating with force as searing, heartfelt pads drift gently way above the low end. It’s one for the Lovers out there, stimulating the higher mental auric body with its high vibrational field.

Emotive analogue bleeps and a cyborg-esque pitched-down vocal add to the emotionally-driven power of this cut, complementing the undulating percussion to create a highly evocative composition. Your heart beats in unison with your lover, grey skies turn to blue, the sun blazes down and, in that moment, everything feels just right…

On the flip ‘Hello‘ combines spritely acid lines and stomping beats to pound your cranium. The drums crash down with considerable force as a monumental bassline sends out earth shattering waves of vibration that reach 8.0 magnitude on the Richter scale. Vocals swirl around the acid lines, lulling you into a trance-like state, taking you to ecstasy.
