Loco Dice announces ‘En Couleur” label with three-track EP ‘Sweet Nectar Blossom’

Loco Dice

Internationally renowned DJ and producer Loco Dice continues his prolific start to 2020 with the release of three-track EP ‘Sweet Nectar Blossom’, out 22nd May via his freshly launched En Couleur label.

The EP opens with the title track, a grainy, lo-fi house jam that’s characterised by its raw, stripped-back nature. ‘Kanak Funk‘ then follows a similar formula, a hazy, bumping groover that’s beauty is in its minimalism. Closing things out is recent single ‘Believe In Me‘, a blissed-out, ethereal house cut that transports listeners to the clouds and beyond with its spiritual leads and smooth transitioning.

Translating to “in colour” in French, En Couleur will be reserved exclusively for the Dusseldorf artist’s music. The name of the label was chosen because “colour stands for the diversity of cultures I absorb and artists I meet on my life journey,” Dice explains.

“Lots of things I do in my life appear in colour. The music I produce is like my movie in technicolor, and the music I play is sorted by colour in my crates and folders” he added.

Loco Dice has also been busy launching his all-new Instagram talk show ‘3 Is The Magic Number‘. Having kicked off on 26th April with fellow dance music legend Carl Craig, the weekly show sees him chat to a new guest each week about their ‘all time favourite three’. This could be anything from albums to movies to books to games, with guests coming from the worlds of fashion, hip-hop, art, fashion, sports and of course electronic music.

Following on from Craig, Italian techno favourite Joseph Capriati and Grammy-winning music mogul Diplo appeared on the most recent editions, with more to be revealed.

Sweet Nectar Blossom‘ sees Loco Dice shift his creative energies towards a new sound and aesthetic, with stellar results.

Tomorrowland call on amateur DJs and producers to join the search for ‘The Sound of Tomorrow’

Tomorrowland 2019

Fire up your decks and start work on your headlining mix as Pepsi MAX and Tomorrowland festival call on amateur DJs and producers to join the search for ‘The Sound of Tomorrow’.

This year, the competition will be coming direct to homes as it is livestreamed through some of the biggest electronic music channels in the world. As Tomorrowland and many other live music events across the world are unable to take place this year, upcoming DJ talent needs a platform more than ever. With worldwide DJs bringing joy to their fans by streaming music into people’s homes, The Sound of Tomorrow will help provide a spotlight for DJs with small audiences but big talent.

Stepping up to mentor and guide the entrants for a second year, world-renowned Dutch DJ and producer Fedde Le Grand is continuing his commitment to fostering new talent. He will be sharing exclusive tips and tricks from the decks to guide and inspire entry mixes from aspiring DJs.

Fedde Le Grand

Last year’s competition saw DJ Empra from Bochum, Germany crowned The Sound of Tomorrow. Taking part in the competition has helped Empra’s DJ career go from strength to strength, from performing at Tomorrowland to releasing two tracks on Fedde Le Grand’s own label, Darklight Recordings.

Entries can now be submitted via TheSoundOfTomorrow.com until midnight on 10 June. Fedde and a team of industry experts will then shortlist and announce those progressing to the final stages.

The competition will culminate as Pepsi MAX and Tomorrowland come together to present an incredible live stream on Tomorrowland’s channels on July 7, where talent from across Europe will mix it out to be crowned The Sound of Tomorrow. Music lovers everywhere will be able to watch the performances, vote for their favourite DJ and see amazing sets from Fedde and other special to-be-announced guests.

The ultimate winner will perform a DJ set at Tomorrowland 2021 and will release a remix on Fedde Le Grand’s label, Darklight Records.

Fedde Le Grand, legendary Dutch DJ and music producer, said:

“Ensuring the DJs and producers of tomorrow have the opportunity to share their talent with the world is a real passion for me. When I founded Darklight Recordings, it was my mission to provide a platform for not only my own releases but for upcoming talent.

Collaborating with Tomorrowland and Pepsi MAX last year to identify The Sound of Tomorrow was an amazing experience – so much so that we’re joining forces once again to identify the hottest new talent in EDM. I’m looking forward to hearing what this year’s contestants will bring to the table in this ever-changing landscape – all while giving them an opportunity to shine during tough times for live music.”

Cathy Graham, Senior Director, Marketing & Innovation at PepsiCo West Europe Beverages said:

The Sound of Tomorrow search last year was an incredible opportunity to provide a launch pad for DJs across Europe. Pepsi MAX has music at its heart and this year, perhaps more than any other, it is important that we continue the legacy of The Sound of tomorrow in partnership with Tomorrowland.

We’re proud to come together with Tomorrowland once again to discover and showcase the next generation of DJs, with a must-see live stream event viewable across Europe and beyond. We can’t wait to see the incredible talent again this year, and to join them back on the festival field when it is right to do so.

Themba remixes HOSH & 1979 single ‘Midnight (The Hanging Tree)’ Feat. Jalja

Themba

Esteemed South African house producer Themba has remixed the Hosh & 1979 smash ‘Midnight (The Hanging Tree)’, out May 22nd. Ramping up the percussive elements and looping Jalja’s pitch-perfect vocals, Themba’s ‘Herd Remix’ sees the exciting young artist deliver a vibrant, energetic take on the original that’s positively brimming with colour.

The masterful track has so far amassed 10.5 million streams on Spotify alone, also receiving the remix treatment from house legend Henrik Schwarz. First released exclusively on Beatport back in December via HOSH’s fryhide label, it reached #1 in Melodic House and Techno Tracks playlist and #2 in the main Beatport Chart, as well as receiving strong support from BBC Radio 1, including being named the first ‘Essential New Tune’ of the decade by the legendary Pete Tong.

A longstanding superstar of the South African house scene, Themba has continued to build a global reputation since dropping his highly acclaimed single ‘Who Is Themba’ in 2018. With his music receiving support from A-listers such as Adam Beyer, Pete Tong, Hot Since 82, Damian Lazarus and Masters At Work, he has toured with fellow South African pioneer Black Coffee as well as released his third DJ mix album earlier this year, Herd In Tulum.

A fresh and exciting take on an already globe-conquering track, Themba’s Herd Remix of ‘Midnight (The Hanging Tree)’ offers his own emotive rework of the original.

Red Axes pay tribute to Charlie Megira with new music video

Red Axes

Celebrating ten years together, Red Axes recently unveiled their self-titled LP. Released via Dark Entries Records, the Tel-Aviv duo now take the opportunity, post-release, to present a new music video for album track ‘Moonlight Ride’ paying tribute to their late friend and musician, Charlie Megira.

Since meeting Charlie Megira in 2011, Red Axes recall him as an inspirational guitarist with whom they shared a deep appreciation for the music of American proto-punk artist, Alan Vega. ‘Moonlight Ride‘ was written as a homage to Alan Vega‘s ‘Fireball‘, featuring bluesy rock n roll riffs and the signature electronic mutations of Red Axes‘.

Directed by documentary filmmaker and ex-music journalist, Boaz Goldberg, the video for ‘Moonlight Ride‘ draws from Goldberg’s rich library of source material, having spent over a decade documenting Israel’s alternative music scene.

Photographs and VHS clips of Megira, recorded by Goldberg for his feature documentary ‘Tomorrow’s Gone‘ (2019) create a visual representation of Charlie Megira and his flamboyant energy. Whilst the pink hued lyrics overlaid, pay tribute to footage of an old Alan Vega performance, comprising an emotive tribute from Red Axes to their dear friend.

״To my ears, Moonlight Ride is a perfect tribute to Charlie Megira. It’s a song that manages to stay in the Rock-N-Roll zones through Charlie’s lesser-known side, which is his fascination for Spacemen 3, Alan Vega & Top of The Pops Glam Rock. Most of the shots I put into the clip is stuff I didn’t put in the movie.

My ambition was to create a visual puzzle that brings up the unique energy of this song. It was also a huge proposition to do a collaboration with Red Axes, Thee Red Axes, beloved electronic-oriented duo who also digs-hard the hardcore of late Kim Fowley stuff haha! The idea to paint the subtitles in pink-red is an inspiration I took from an old VHS gig of Alan Vega, that I’m sure Charlie binged a lot before tattooing ‘Alan Vega’ on his arm. ״ Boaz Goldberg

Florian Picasso & Timmy Trumpet drop timeless lovestruck collab ‘Armageddon’

Florian Picasso & Timmy Trumpet

In a beautiful cohesion of dreamy indie pop melodies and old school dance anthem sensibilities, Timmy Trumpet and Florian Picasso come together for the lovestruck collaboration ‘Armageddon.’

Paired alongside the single is Timmy Trumpet‘s Chill Mix, which sees the producer dial down the club beats and let the falsetto hooks and glossy synths glide into the sunset.

Armageddon‘ came into fruition about a year ago, when Timmy and Florian realized they needed to collaborate. Florian sent over an initial sketch for the track to Timmy, who flipped the main hook into his own inimitable style. The rare talent Josh Cumbee, who has voiced tracks by Armin van Buuren, Fedde Le Grand and Zonderling to name a few, was then brought in to sing the topline. With a few final tweaks and a special radio-friendly Chill Mix by Timmy, ‘Armageddon‘ was complete.

In keeping with the trend of rising BPMs in big room dance music, ‘Armageddon‘ pumps at a frenzied tempo. Shimmering, filtered arpeggios build the mood under driving beats before it drops into a dramatic breakdown. Sweet, yearning vocals from Josh Cumbee add a euphoric edge as theatrical FX and big 80’s-style snares build things up. The drop ushers in a buzzing wave of emotions, emitting a timeless, nostalgic feel, refined with a modern touch.
