LUVYA Festival exceeds all expactations for first edition at FIVE Palm Jumeirah

FIVE Palm Jumeirah, Dubai’s hottest hotel, welcomed thousands of guests from Thursday through to Saturday last week for the first edition of LUVYA Festival. With more than 40 performances from DJ superstars and legends of the underground, the three-day luxe festival was sprawled across 3 stages, offering quality music and inimitable vibe.

Situated on Beach by FIVE – the hotel’s new 150-metre private beach – the mainstage made a jaw-dropping impression with help from the production team behind Tomorrowland, Envie Events. Festival organisers pulled out all stops to deliver a world-class production from fireworks, pyrotechnics, and Co2, complemented by a stunning view of Dubai’s Marina skyline.

Tropical house producer Klingande kicked off the extravaganza on Thursday with an incredible sunset slot before beloved Belgian artist Lost Frequencies delivered a live DJ and keyboard performance.

British singer, songwriter, rapper, DJ and producer Craig David captivated the crowd on Friday as he performed all his hits, while the world’s #1 DJ duo, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike sent the audience to a frenzy with infectious beats ranging from pop to hardstyle.

Electronic meets classical music – Lowland bridges the gap with ‘Classical Trancelations 3’

Classical Trancelation 3

It all started back in 2006. Petri Alanko, better known as Lowland, was booked to play various club classics on the piano at the tenth anniversary party of Helsinki’s beloved Club Unity. But instead of sticking to the original plan, Lowland took it a step further.

He created orchestral backings to the tracks and produced a touching performance, giving birth to a much bigger dream. The versions went viral on the web, got picked up by Dutch DJ and producer Armin van Buuren and were turned into two magical ‘Classical Trancelations‘ albums, released in respectively 2008 and 2015. And now, thirteen years after the initial spark, ‘Classical Trancelations 3‘ has arrived to relight the fire.

A live registration of 2018’s Classical Trancelations event in Finland, ‘Classical Trancelations 3‘ offers up the same orchestral interpretations that reimagined some of the biggest electronic music classics for a crowd of over 8,500 strong.

Including new, mouthwatering edits of tracks such as Rank 1‘s ‘Airwave’, Chicane‘s ‘Saltwater’, Daft Punk‘s ‘Get Lucky’, Darude‘s ‘Sandstorm’ and even Pendulum‘s ‘The Island’, this third album installment offers up some of the most magical crossover songs to date, all performed live by Lowland and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in tandem with many other talented musicians and conductors.

It all started with a dream. And if there’s anything that this albums proves to us, it’s that the dream is alive and bigger than ever before, demonstrating that the only limitations on music are the ones we impose ourselves.

Here’s what Petri Alanko, Lowland had to say about the album:

“I’ve always wanted to begin writing something with the words “and so it was about as big as it could possibly become”. We did it about as big as we possibly could fit on the gigantic stage, in Helsinki Arena on September 29, 2018. To this day, I still can’t tell the exact number of the musicians on stage, but it was well over 130 at some point. With each minute, the sound assembled into a more coherent soundscape.

Out of small individual things came this one large mass of sound that brought joy and love back to the people. Small things became something wonderful. I am beyond proud of how to Classical Trancelations concert panned out, and with the release of the ‘Classical Trancelations 3’ album, we aim to inspire even more people than the thousands that joined us in Helsinki for one hell of a ride. It was about as big as it could possibly become.”

Solarstone & Betsie Larkin team up for brand new track ‘Indestructible’

Solarstone

Having previously found collaboration alchemy with Betsie Larkin through ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ and ‘Breathe You In’, a reteaming for the pair has become an evermore-requested one. One also long anticipated as ‘Indestructible’ – their new co-creation – marks the pair’s first rematch in six studio years.

Placing a momentary pause on the abiding uplift and floor elevation of Solarstone’s ‘3’ album, the track served a meditative midpoint oasis for his latest longplayer. Introspective of lyric and expressive of song, through it Betsie rhapsodically contemplates love’s indomitable side. Never less than poignant, its love-conquers-all message couldn’t be clearer.

Solarstone’s supporting production is a study in majestic slo-mo, with Richard fashioning nothing less than a tapestry through its soaring guitars, atmospherically charged piano and imaginative percussion arrangements.

Ahead of a Club Mix treatment in the New Year, ‘Indestructible’s devastating Original arrives on all good download stores and streaming platforms today.

Djakarta Warehouse Project Wrap 11th Edition

Djakarta Warehouse Project

Year on year Djakarta Warehouse Project, the jewel in South-East Asia’s EDM crown, has repeatedly exceeded expectations and rightfully asserted itself as the biggest event of its kind in the region. From humble beginnings as a small club-night, to welcoming its largest turnout to date this year, DWP 2019 closes the decade as one of dance music’s greatest success stories.

Celebrations on day one got underway with the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika moment, featuring the traditional Indonesian Kinang Kilaras dance routine at the Garuda Land mainstage. Then came the music, and punters were spoilt for choice with three dazzling stages and over 25 DJs to choose from. Warm up sets from Devarra, who dropped Indonesia’s national anthem right after his performance, and Blasterjaxx, who played an Indonesian hit song, sent the crowds into a patriotic frenzy and laid the groundwork for the night’s headliners.

Yellow Claw was up next, and the Dutch duo did not disappoint. Having gained mass appeal in the country, the duo dedicated their set to the archipelago, enlisting the help of viral Indonesian keyboardist Arindi Putry, before inviting on stage local legends Ramengvrl, Sihk and YB. Their label, Barong Family, took over stage 3 for the day with super-charged sets from Wiwek, Moksi, and Ghastly.

Zedd and Martin Garrix‘s return to DWP capped off a spectacular first day of festivities, not least of which saw the pair join each other on stage for an iconic moment few will forget for a long time.

Day two was a day of firsts, with DWP debuts from EDM mainstays Krewella, who packed out the Neon Jungle stage with back-to-back bangers, and Disclosure, who donned the Garuda Land mainstage for the first time to a rapturous reception.

Elrow‘s ‘El Triangulo de las Rowmudas‘ made its Asia debut at DWP too, welcoming the very best in house music from Claptone, Meduza, Marc Maya, Riva Starr, Chelina Manuhutu, Mario Biani, Hyde, and Okiocto.

There were welcome DWP returnees too in the likes of R3HAB, Oliver Heldens and Fun On A Weekend, all of whom kept the energy high throughout the day. The job of rounding things off was left to EDM stalwart, Skrillex, who delivered one of the most memorable and amped-up sets of the weekend.

With energy levels low, day three artists had their work cut out to keep crowds from waning, but they rose to the challenge in style. International party-starter Martin Solveig kicked things off, with help elsewhere from Patricia Schuldtz, Yako, and DWP first timers Chromeo.

Another debut came from R&B icon, Tinashe. Riding a wave of success following the release of her long-awaited album, her first performance in Indonesia was an unforgettable success and one that will remain etched in the minds of fans for years to come.

Over at the D’Empire stage there were mesmerizing sets from Yung Bae and Motez, while Jonas Blue delivered one of the most impressive performances of his career at the Garuda Land stage.

Last, but by no means least, came the turn of global phenomenon, Calvin Harris. Returning to DWP after a seven-year hiatus, the super-star DJ along with his custom stage design, wowed revellers with a plethora of hits that made for a fitting end to proceedings.

After the three nights it’s safe to say that attendees were left awe struck by the sound, lights, pyrotechnics, stage design, and talent on offer, a welcome reminder of the awesome nature of an event like Djakarta Warehouse Project.

With the dust now settled, fans can begin the countdown to DWP 2020 which will no doubt take things up another notch.

As the year of 2019 is entering into its final stages, it seems that Ferry Corsten and Armada Music saved one of the year’s best announcements for last.

Today, the Dutch Trance phenomenon and the Amsterdam, New York and London-based record label inked an exclusive agreement, putting their trust in each other for the (future) representation of Ferry Corsten‘s Flashover Recordings as well as most of the imprint’s past releases, which includes a trove of beloved classics produced by Ferry Corsten under his System F and Gouryella aliases plus many more well established artists.

Maykel Piron, CEO Armada Music: “Over twenty years ago, Ferry and I started working together at an independent label. I was involved in releasing some of his biggest hits, such as ‘Out Of The Blue’ and Gouryella’s ‘Gouryella’.

Continuing our working relationship after all those years feels like coming home, and I can’t wait to create future hits together in this new partnership. It’s a dream to be able to work on new Ferry Corsten material and it’ll be a blast reworking the classics that inspired me and helped me grow to where I am as a person today.”

Joeri Lodders, CEO Flashover Recordings: “We feel that partnering up with Armada will bring us the reach our artists need for future releases while working on our catalogue in a new and creative way. It’s exciting to see that Maykel’s past work with Ferry and myself finally comes together to reach new heights.”

Ferry Corsten: “I have been working on so many diverse music projects lately, and I strongly feel that through this new partnership we will maximize the creativity and capability of these plans moving forward.

I always try to have new and established talent benefit from releasing their music on Flashover, so with Armada now as our partner, I believe this will open up new and exciting opportunities for these artists to develop their careers.”

Ferry Corsten‘s lustrous career truly started with the release of ‘Out Of The Blue‘, the sophomore artist album under his System F moniker. The eponymous single became a worldwide hit, charted in the Top 20 of the U.K. Singles chart and graced the Top 10 of Japan’s singles chart for three consecutive years, paving the way for a steady flow of releases (including ‘Gouryella‘ with Tiësto) and remix work for U2, Moby, Faithless, The Killers, William Orbit, Duran Duran, Public Enemy, Nelly Furtado, and many others.

Fast-forward to today and it’s clear that there isn’t a lot Ferry Corsten hasn’t already achieved in the twenty years since. A regular in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll, the Dutchman has eight full-length studio albums to his name, runs a globally syndicated radio show (Corsten‘s Countdown) and continues to send fans into raptures through both his stadium-quivering DJ sets and System F live show, wherever in the world he ventures. Now entering into a new chapter with his label alongside Armada Music, Ferry Corsten once again proves that the possibilities are boundless.

Martin Garrix delivers a holiday gift with 3 hot new remixes of ‘Used To Love’

Martin Garrix & Dean Lewis

Dutch superstar DJ and producer, Martin Garrix has a few treats up his sleeve for his fans this festive season, kicking off with a remix package for his massive ‘Used To Love’ collaboration with Dean Lewis. Garrix has enlisted some of the most exciting artists from his STMPD RCRDS roster to rework this fine track in three very tasty flavours.

Following on from his huge remix of Garrix and David Guetta‘s ‘So Far Away‘, Swedish prodigy Osrin delivers another big rework. He combines with Beau Collins for a sweet version that takes the disco flavour and chunks it up in phat electronic style. SWACQ goes rowdy on his fierce, bass-driven remix, heavy on the distortion to contrast against the sweet vocal.

Jimi Hyde is a new producer in the game on who you should be paying close attention to. This year he was going places and was part of Kylie‘s #1 Album in UK and Australia. He also co-produced on Dillon Francis album Magic Is Real and on other international releases. And now he launches his own project. Jimi shows he’s one to watch with his feel-good, piano house romper of a remix, completing a diverse package that will keep fans smiling throughout the festive season.

Out now, these superb remixes should keep parties rocking through the Holiday Season. And there’s more still to come from team Garrix before the year is up, so keep your ears and eyes peeled…
