Nicole Moudaber comes together with the London Community Gospel Choir for ‘Rise Up’

Techno goddess Nicole Moudaber teams up with The London Community Gospel Choir for ‘Rise Up’ – out now via Nothing Else Matters.

Over a year in the making, the sublime single has been a true labour of love for Moudaber, who speaks of the Soul Providers‘ original as a record that she has had an immense connection with throughout her clubbing days.

Always a dream of hers to work on, Nicole reached out to the London Community Gospel Choir to re-record the lyrics, recording together with them in the studio back home in London. Bringing together the choir’s soulful vocals with her own unique blend of stomping techno, with ‘Rise UpNicole effortlessly reimagines the original into a forward-thinking techno anthem, laced with the perfect hint of dancefloor nostalgia.

Nicole Moudaber – Rise Up

Here’s what Nicole Moudaber had to say about the release:

“This single has always resonated with me on a deeply personal level, but it is also so relatable on a universal level – considering all that is happening in the world right now. The message ‘Rise, Rise Up, Dust off and do it again’ is such a powerful message: together we can come together and Rise Up to the next level.

We recorded with 8 members of the London Community Gospel Choir and let me tell I had GOOSEBUMPS! I think we made a little piece of magic that day. I am so happy you guys can all finally hear it”

Undoubtedly one of the hardest working women in techno, with every year that goes by Nicole Moudaber remains committed to raising the bar. Whether it’s delivering huge productions for hallowed imprints such as Drumcode, Hot Creations, Nervous Records, Nothing Else Matters, carving up the stages of some of the biggest festivals and clubs in the world, or creating mind-blowing new visual experiences for her own In The Mood nights – as debuted at ArtsDistrict Brooklyn this summer – it’s easy to see why Moudaber remains at the very top of her game.

Habitatt introduce their soothing sound with their 3-Track “See” EP on Purified Records

Marking their inaugural release with a stunning three-track offering, Max Styler and Spencer Howard’s newly formed duo Habitatt introduce their soothing sound with their See EP on Purified Records.

Exploring melodic territories, the title track meanders across an undulating sonic pathway, combining soaring notes and vocals with dance-ready basslines. Entering a mystical realm, Terminal D sets a poignant tone with isolated piano keys and sparse percussion. Introducing intricate drum patterns, this touching number ebbs and flows throughout its duration. Closing with Time, the listener is led into an otherworldly dimension with alluring synths and sonic patterns that rise and fall to emphatic effect.

Growing up making beats together and uploading them to SoundCloud, Max and Spencer‘s production synergy was founded when they were kids. Their paths into adulthood led them in opposite directions, with Max becoming an international touring producer and DJ, and Spencer pursuing his athletic endeavors, leading to a successful career as a pitcher in Major League Baseball.

With drastically different career paths, their lives were mirrored with long travel days, hotels in different cities, and their love for music production. The pair began to share ideas with each other on the road, and their passion for melodies and music became the seed that grew into the Habitatt project.

The See EP artwork features an image of a sea turtle by Daniel Nicholson. Sea turtles, ancient mariners of the oceans, have traversed Earth’s waters for millions of years, witnessing the changing tides of time. Their lifecycle – from the vulnerable hatching stage, to the determined return to nesting beaches – highlights the intricacies of nature’s design.

These graceful creatures, each with its unique migratory patterns, are now facing serious threats, including habitat destruction and plastic pollution. Organizations like the Sea Turtle Conservancy commit themselves to conservation efforts that encompass both nesting sites and the broader marine environments.

Ensuring the survival of sea turtles becomes not only a conservation imperative, but also a testament to our commitment to preserving the timeless stories of Earth’s ancient travellers. Green turtles are listed as endangered according to the IUCN.

Len Faki presents ‘Hardspace’ moniker and releases Vol. 1

Len Faki recently put out his mammoth LP Fusion, but his new moniker Hardspace finds him harking back to his signature style of specifically remixing tracks for his personal club usage.

Working on the album may have helped open him up creatively, but this new project has him investing countless hours and a lot of passion into building the most efficient club tracks imaginable.

Long-time fans of Faki know that he’s always reworked all of his sets’ tracks to uniquely suit his personal mixing style, making his sets sound as tight and cohesive in a way that stands out from the rest.

Decades of experience as a producer and DJ for the dancefloor have gone into these edits, re-arranging and re-mixing sometimes forgotten tracks for a new audience. Incorporating his singular understanding of frequencies and floor dynamics, Hardspace is meant to express this side of his musical personality, while Len Faki will continue to explore a more varied approach to producing.

Swapping a lot of weekends away busily touring for much more studio time, the result marks both a technical and also personal achievement for Faki. Improved production skills, tears and emotions all have been poured into Hardspace, which will see a slew of releases in the forthcoming months.

The first volume includes a total of six reworks, both previously unreleased tools of colleague Viers or Helena Hauff’s modern acid chug, as well as some 90’s classics and hidden gems from Perry & Rhodan, Resist 101 and Ectomorph. All of these tunes have been meticulously pieced together to keep the originals’ flavour and ideas, but infuse them with the undeniable power and presence that all Faki productions have come to hold.

Jauz Remixes Deadmau5’s Iconic Track ‘Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff’

deadmau5 cube

Iconic deadmau5 single ‘Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff (featuring Rob Swire)’ has received a fresh remix treatment from Bay Area-born electronic DJ and producer Jauz.

The original 2008 release is a staple across dance music culture and with the new remix, signifies a new era for dance music. Over the last fourteen years, only two other artists have been tapped for an official remix of the song- NERO‘s remix was featured in its 2009 single package and Chuckie followed shortly after in 2014 on the 5 Years of mau5 compilation album.

The baton has now been passed to Jauz and his work certainly does not disappoint. ‘Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff (Jauz Remix)‘ is out now via label imprint mau5trap.

deadmau5 – Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff Jauz Remix

For a remix of epic proportions, Jauz kept many of the original elements of the song from Rob Swire‘s soaring vocals to deadmau5‘s easy-to-recognize heralding synths- but with his own twist.

“Making a remix for a song as revered and respected as ‘Ghosts n’ Stuff’ is honestly almost an impossible task,” says Jauz. “It was intimidating and humbling, to say the least. But it was also a great exercise to remind myself how to stop putting pressure and expectation on myself, and just make whatever comes out naturally. I made eight different versions of this remix and this is the only one that really felt like ‘me.’ Thanks to Joel and the team for letting me remix one of the greatest electronic records of all time. It was an honor and such a cool experience”

Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” is one of the most recognizable tracks from deadmau5‘ catalog. Originally released in 2008 as an instrumental (with its vocal version featuring Pendulum‘s Rob Swire following in 2009), the anthem appeared on the double-platinum album, For Lack Of A Better Name.

The chart-topping song hit #1 on Billboard Hot Dance Airplay and became the narrative of one of the most viral video clips in modern-day electronic music culture including the “Ghosts n Stuff (HARD Intro)” video captured in 2008. Since its debut, it has garnered over 400 million collective plays and also holds double-platinum RIAA sales status.

“This creepy organ intro is bone-chillingly cool. It’s actually a sample of Frederic Chopin’s Piano Sonata, Op. 35, No. 2 in B-Flat Minor, if you care to know. The vocal sample is from a monologue in The Brain From Planet Arous, a black-and-white, 1957 sci-fi indie flick…,” shared Billboard. “This motif is one of deadmau5’s most memorable and instantly recognizable melodies.”

On top of being given remix duties for this iconic track, 2023 marked a significant milestone in Jauz’s career with the release of his two-part album series. The first installment, Rise of the Wise, focused more on his love for progressive house tracks and production style.

Contrasting its predecessor, Wrath of the Wicked rounded out the yin-and-yang project with more dubstep & drum n’ bass sounds. The two albums pay homage to his debut album, The Wise and The Wicked while highlighting his versatility and duality not only as a producer but as a human being. The album coincides with a 2023-2024 Wise/Wicked Tour from Jauz.

Watch Laidback Luke demonstrate how he uses DJ.Studio to create his radio show

Having only launched a matter of months ago, DJ.Studio – the only DAW designed specifically for DJ mixing – continues to make impressive advancements, a number of which were debuted during the app’s first Amsterdam Dance Event since it hit the market.

With the platform still only in development this time last year, DJ.Studio have made unbelievable progress to earn their place as one of the most talked about pieces of DJ software around today.

This year’s Amsterdam Dance Event was a resounding success for those who have been working tirelessly on the app, with DJ.Studio making a number of impressive moves throughout what is undoubtedly one of the busiest weeks in the electronic music calendar.

DJ.Studio

Testament to the app’s phenomenal capabilities, Dutch dynamo Laidback Luke has been one of the world-class DJs championing the software, since discovering how effective it was in helping him create mixes for his radio show.

Presenting a masterclass alongside CEO Siebrand Dijkstra, Luke‘s excitement was evident throughout as he led an in-depth demonstration of how he uses DJ.Studio to create his radio shows in just a third of the time. Referencing the host of features that are “intuitive even for DJs that have never produced”, he went on to emphasise how impressed he was with the unique algorithm which captures the energy of the tracks, ensuring that the “DNA of real DJing is in there”.

During this session, DJ.Studio also confirmed two brand-new integrations, the first of which was presented by Helen Sartory, SVP Creator Services at Beatport who announced that users will soon be able to use Beatport’s online streaming services to create their mixes in DJ.Studio. Explaining how she had been “watching [DJ.Studio] with such anticipation”, Sartory went on to provide a whistle stop tour of the Beatport integration in action, highlighting how the hybrid workflow was a gamechanger for them, and even remarking on the phenomenal speed of which it operates.

Next up, DJ.Studio unveiled another mind-blowing integration with online DJ tracklist database, 1001Tracklists. The ground-breaking feature allows all users to directly import any tracklist on their site into DJ.Studio, and make their own version of it, using it as a starter template, with the option of tweaking, removing, adding or just adjusting the order of tracks as they see fit. Showcased during the masterclass by 1001Tracklists’ CEO Evan Sacks, ADE marked a wider partnership between the two platforms, with DJ.Studio the official partners of 1001Tracklists’ annual Top 101 Producers and Future of Dance events that week.

Perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects of DJ.Studio is the team’s commitment to user experience. Speaking out during ADE, Dijkstra spoke of their attitude to the feedback they receive – “If it’s not already in there, and we like the idea – we’re going to build it!”.

With the latest integrations from 1001Tracklists live and Beatport imminent, fans of DJ.Studio can also expect to see further new developments such as sample tracks, offline support and advanced automations – watch this space!

Exclusive Interview with DJ & Producer Kallaghan

In this insightful interview with Kallaghan, we explore the roots of his musical journey and the diverse influences that have shaped his career. From his early days as a guitarist and producer in the rock scene to his transition into the Electronic music world, Kallaghan’s evolution as an artist has kept him reaching new milestones throughout every step.

Join us as we delve into the artists, genres, and experiences that have played a pivotal role in shaping his unique sound and approach to music.

Check out the full interview below!

Kallaghan

Hello Kallaghan! How are you?

I am great thank you! Comment ça va?

All good! What first inspired you to pursue a career in Electronic Music?

During my teenage years, I underwent surgery for peritonitis, which led to months of confinement within my home. It was during this period that a friend introduced me to Cubase, igniting my passion for recording my guitar and initiating my journey into music production. While in France, I envisioned the fusion of Electronic elements with Rock music, but the local music scene did not align with my creative vision, leaving me with a sense of being out of place.

Following my stints in the UK and Ireland, I eventually made my way to California, where I seized the opportunity to collaborate with Falling In Reverse on their album “Just Like You.” This unique experience allowed me to infuse my distinctive “euro” synths into their music, subsequently paving the way for my career in music production and songwriting for various bands. This journey ultimately culminated in the establishment of my very own studio in Los Angeles, where I continue to collaborate with Falling In Reverse.

In 2019, while working on a song for my friend Lexus, I had a serendipitous encounter with Pasqual Rotella, who encouraged me to embark on a career as a DJ and to promote my own music. This marked my foray into the Electronic music scene. In 2022, despite having no prior experience as a DJ, I took on a year of DJing, sharing stages with renowned artists such as Diplo, Malaa, and Steve Aoki, and even gracing the stage at EDC Las Vegas 2022. Furthermore, I co-founded “Grailed Records” alongside my friend CT, a venture that remains steadfast in supporting my personal musical endeavors.

What artists and genres outside of Electronic Music inspire you the most?

I still produce a lot of Hip Hop and Rock music. I am constantly bombarded with new amazing and emerging underground artists and sub genres. That’s what inspires me the most. I am also influenced a lot by 90s music, which I listened to pretty much every day.

How would you say that your musical influences have evolved as you’ve grown as an artist?

Well, my journey into the world of music began with Rock bands, where I often found myself taking on various roles such as a singer, guitarist, or bass player. However, one common thread throughout all these experiences was my role as the Producer, shaping the sound of the bands I was a part of. It’s safe to say that I was deeply influenced by the sounds of Electronic music to write my Rock music during this phase.

As time went on, my musical horizons expanded as I transitioned to California. I gradually delved into Hip-Hop and Electronic music, using my Rock background as a foundation for crafting Electronic compositions. This evolution in my musical journey led me to work on projects that seamlessly blended Rock and Electronic elements, industrial such as DK-Zero and, notably, Falling In Reverse for a lot of very “euro synths lead”. When I began collaborating with Falling In Reverse, Ronnie took a keen interest in my synths, often incorporating them into the Rock build-ups of their songs.

In a sense, my musical influences have come full circle. I started in Rock, drawing inspiration from Electronic music, and now, as an artist in the Electronic music scene, I continue to be influenced by the Rock music that initially ignited my passion.

Can you recall any live events that you have found particularly inspirational over the years?

OMG! Haha, it will go from Kendrick Lamar in L.A to Johnathan Davis from Korn playing the bagpipes on Life is Peachy to seeing FISHER get 100k people to laugh and dance at the same time. I am a sucker for live events when there is an actual performance of the artist, whatever genre.

What songs are currently in your most played playlist?

  • Propellerheads – “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”
  • Travis Scott – “ FEIN”
  • Falling In Reverse – “Watch The Wolf Burn” (that I had the chance to co-produce)
  • Kordell – “Live Another Day”
  • Fisher – “Atmosphere”

How do you think that your influences have shaped your production style?

I’m all about mixing “riffy grooves” inspired by guitar riffs and Big Room music to create a unique musical journey. I really love catchy riffs and big melodic changes, but I also enjoy the intense parts of Techno music. My music often has a dark or sarcastic mood, which reflects my musical journey from making Nu-Metal riffs in my bedroom as a teenager to crafting Techno drops at raves.

My process usually starts with a catchy riff for a groovy and edgy feel. Take, for example, one of my latest songs “SKYFALL” where I wanted to blend a melodic vocal sample similar to what Pharrell from N.E.R.D might have done with synths inspired by Prodigy. I then modernize the sound while keeping that ’90s and early 2000s vibe intact.

Do you find any inspiration outside of music? If so, where? How do you keep yourself motivated and inspired?

Staying connected to the ever-evolving world of music is a top priority for me, and one way I ensure this is by frequently seeking recommendations from my friends. Discovering fresh talent and immersing myself in novel genres and musical movements is not just a hobby; it’s a passion that fuels my creative spirit.

I make it a point to be an avid “fan” of music in every sense of the word. This means not only creating music but also wholeheartedly embracing it as a listener. Being a fan keeps me grounded, reminding me of the excitement and inspiration that drew me to music in the first place. It’s a two-way street – while I pour my creativity into my own work, I equally delight in being a receptive and enthusiastic audience to other artists.

This constant exchange of musical experiences with my friends and other producers keeps me on the cutting edge of what’s happening in the music scene. It’s a vibrant cycle of discovery and shared enthusiasm that ensures I never lose touch with the pulse of music, allowing me to explore new frontiers and maintain my creative spark.

We wrap up this interview thanking Kallaghan for sharing his musical journey and the profound influences that have enriched his artistic path; his ability to seamlessly bridge genres and draw inspiration from diverse musical landscapes shows his versatility as an artist.

As Kallaghan continues to evolve and explore new frontiers in music, we look forward to witnessing the exciting chapters yet to unfold in his vibrant career.
