Amsterdam Dance Event – ADE completes 2023 program with over 2,900 artists

amsterdam dance event

The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) has completed its program for ADE 2023 and is unveiling a special collaboration with Amsterdam staple Rijksmuseum and DJ upsammy as its Official Opening Event. The result is “Breathe, Walk, Die”, a unique performance where art and music converge. The event takes place in the iconic bicycle passage under the Rijksmuseum, made possible by the collaboration between the two cultural institutions. Breathe, Walk, Die will take place on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:30 PM and will also be streamed live on ADE’s channels.

ADE and Rijksmuseum present “Breathe, Walk, Die”

Breathe, Walk, Die” is a three-act theatrical performance that brings to life the exhibition Museum Boijmans van Beuningen at Rijksmuseum. The show is based on the musical tour that DJ upsammy composed for the exhibition under the direction of creative producer Tom Trago, in which life – from birth to death – is musically reflected through themes such as fear, lust and ambition. With live sounds by percussionist Valentina Magaletti and a visual interpretation by designer Theun Mosk, the performance promises to be one of the central showpieces of ADE 2023.

The collaboration between ADE and Rijksmuseum represents an important step for both institutions in merging different art disciplines to create unique, connecting experiences. This initiative also marks ADE’s direction towards becoming a more artistic platform that encourages young musical talent on a broader stage, and emphasizes the cultural value of electronic music.

“We are extremely proud that we have been able to set up this initiative in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum, and present electronic music’s positive impact and contribution to cultural heritage to an even wider audience,” says Jan-Willem van de Ven, Director of ADE.

Hendrikje Crebolder, Director of Development and Media at the Rijksmuseum, adds: “Thanks to our partnership with ADE and Heineken, we can offer a new audience a unique experience in the museum and beyond.”

Dom Dolla continues his 2023 trail-blaze with ‘Saving Up’

Dom Dolla

‘Saving Up’ is a heartfelt, summer drenched, hug-ya mate affirmation, born out of an end-of-summer studio session overlooking Brighton Beach (UK). ‘Saving Up’ is personal and reflective, exploring the theme of prioritizing relationships with loved ones over the relentless pursuit of personal fortunes, saving time for the ones you love.

2023 has been Dom Dolla’s biggest year to date, delivering a succession of critically acclaimed singles ‘Rhyme Dust’ w/ MK (Feb) and ‘Eat Your Man’ ft Nelly Furtado (June). Now, Dom Dolla returns with ‘Saving Up’ set for release October 6th via Three Six Zero Recordings, Ministry Of Sound UK and Sony Music ANZ.

Saving Up’ shows Dom Dolla is at the top of his production game. An uptempo disco-flavoured banger guaranteed to light up the dance floor. ‘Saving Up’ is a personal and reflective record, exploring the theme of prioritizing relationships with loved ones over the relentless pursuit of personal fortunes, saving time for the ones you love. Whilst a 100% original composition, ‘Saving Up’ has a distinct sample-like quality, synonymous with disco and house.

Here’s what Dom Dolla had to say:

“I was in the UK last year after a massive summer of touring when I caught the train down to Brighton with some friends and ended up in an incredible studio overlooking the beach. I was missing home a bit, but felt really inspired and wanted to write a feel-good record, reminding myself of the importance of saving time for the ones I care about and love.

Whilst (in the studio) overlooking the same site Fatboy Slim hosted his ‘Big Beach Boutique’, I was thinking about the UK’s dance music history and it inspired me so I decided to lean into the idea of writing something that sounds sampled, but isn’t. I often like to write records completely on my own, but it feels so perfect to have written this one alongside some good pals, Clementine Douglas, Caitlin Stubbs & Toby Scott.”

Dom Dolla has performed at notable venues and festivals throughout 2023; Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Brooklyn Mirage, EDC Las Vegas, Lollapalooza Chicago, Tomorrowland, We Are FSTVL, Leeds Festival and Solomun +1 at Pacha Ibiza. He’s set to perform a sold-out show at Electric Brixton in London (Oct 7th), followed by his final North American shows in Austin TX, Washington DC, Vancouver CA, III Points Miami and EDC Orlando. Dom will end 2023 with Australian festival headlines at Spilt Milk, Lost Paradise, and two sold-out hometown shows at Sidney Myer Music Bowl (24,000 tix).

Dom Dolla’s catalog is fast approaching ONE BILLION streams, and ‘Saving Up’ suggests he shows no signs of slowing down.

Mau P makes his debut on Black Book Records with “Dress Code”

Known for fearlessly tackling taboos, ‘Dress Code’ bumps clubgoers and tastemakers alike to embrace their originality.

Pushing the boundaries of his own production, Mau P delivers a minimalist vocal and infectious bassline laced across a dark groove, urging listeners to “let go and embrace yourself.”

“A dress code defines clothing expectations based on social norms, purposes and occasions. But we don’t want any of that.” Mau P says about his latest release.

“I don’t care what you look like or what you dress like, I just want you to have a good time – this record is meant for people to feel good about themselves and have a good time” he added.

The Dutch producer’s prestigious highlights include landing Tomorrowland‘s top 2 most played tracks (‘Drugs From Amsterdam‘ & ‘Metro‘), making a debut slammer at the iconic Space Miami, and selling out shows across the globe within the first 12 months of his career. Never afraid to do the unexpected, Mau P‘s discography spans Repopulate Mars, Afterlife and now Chris Lake‘s Black Book.

Catch Mau P on the final stretch of his 2023 tour or at his biggest solo headline show to date at NYC’s Knockdown Center in February next year.

Hidden Axis and Medyk fuse the best parts of both their styles on Wave Music Label release ‘Matrix’

The electronic music scene is always buzzing with new releases, but every now and then, a track comes along that’s more than just a basic vision – it’s a journey. “Matrix” is one of those tracks. It doesn’t just stick to the usual electronic formula; it takes you on a trip through the intricate corridors of self-reflection – a musical version of the Matrix movie universe, one may say. It’s not just something you listen to; it’s a deep exploration looking inward.

But tracks like this don’t just magically appear; they’re carefully crafted. Hidden Axis, also known as Julie Yeung, hails from the thriving music scene in the Bay Area and has been the mastermind behind “Matrix.” She made a switch from STEM to synthesizers, and her talent shines through.

Medyk adds her unique touch to this musical canvas with her stand-out vocals. She’s no stranger to the music world, having collaborated with big names like Slander and ARMNHMR. With an impressive track record in streaming, Medyk‘s influence on “Matrix” is crystal clear.

Matrix” isn’t just another electronic track; it’s a testament to the storytelling power of this genre. Crafted meticulously by Hidden Axis and Medyk, it’s a track that invites you to reflect, empathize, and most importantly, connect. So, if you’re looking for more than just a typical electronic tune, give “Matrix” a listen.

Tobtok and farfetch’d finally unveil full 6-track debut EP ‘My Friends’

These playful Swedish producers have been dropping one track each month since June, culminating in one complete showcase of their most innovative work to date. Featuring the brand new single ‘Movin On’.

Long time friends and studio buddies, Tobtok and farfetch’d, finally reveal their 6-track ‘My Friends EP’ in all its experimental glory. Marking an evolution in sound from their multi-platinum-selling singles of yesteryear, this passion project draws inspiration from all sides of their musical tastes, spanning house through rave, French and glitch with sprinkles of disco and a kick of breaks and drum ’n’ bass. Release day, 29th September, also sees the launch of the brand new single ‘Movin On’, which yet again twists up nostalgic house sounds with a fresh, modern twist.

The My Friends EP is a diverse and exciting body of work, evident in the slew of notable media and tastemaker support that came on the releases of ‘I Like When You’, ‘So Good’ and ‘My Friends’. From Auntie Flo through to Sam Divine, and heavy support across the KISS radio network, its arguably Tobtok and farfetch’d’s most accomplished work to date.

Tobtok and farfetch’d – My Friends EP

With so much attention to detail in its production, the My Friends EP goes all out with technique, playing around with sampling, micro sampling live sounds, and manipulating and pitching vocals.

“The concept was to do something really playful”, Tobtok explains, “We experimented with new ways of thinking. We tried not to think about what’s going to stream or what’s gonna go viral on TikTok, we just wanted to make music that we like.”

Fans of the EP so far will be delighted with the new addition of ‘Movin On’ which Tobtok says sounds “like going back to 2009” with Jerry of farfetch’d cementing this ideal with, “what I like about it is that it sounds so fresh, but also like it’s about 20 years old.

Drawing on their collective love of French touch and filter house, Movin On has got serious groove. With builds and drops cutting into classic noughties house and a rolling bassline that keeps on popping throughout, Tobtok says, “it’s what we used to love and we want people to experience it in 2023.”

Tobtok & farfetch’d – My Friends EP

Tobtok has always worked in his own lane, from his early nu disco signings to highly respected French label Kitsuné – who released his only EP to date, ‘Savanna’ – to his more dancefloor-geared signings to Selected as heard on ‘My Carousel’. There have been plenty of nods to the Swede’s talents over the years, from specialist spins from Pete Tong and Zane Lowe, to being asked to curate Toolroom’s Miami Poolside compilation.

Although still early on in their career farfetch’d aka Jerry Sjödin and Johnny Bergström have been making waves of their own. Taking influence from old-time childhood heroes and fusing the feelings of the past with those of today, their music spans genres and is always drenched in love and happiness. Just check out their releases on Spinnin’, Axtone and Soave for evidence.

Tobtok and farfetch’d go way back to when they first bonded over their love of nu disco and French house when meeting at a student club night and have since produced together on singles for Selected and Perfect Havoc.
