Drumcode Records returns with its iconic A-Sides series after a two-year break

Drumcode’s beloved A-Sides compilation makes a return after a two-year absence, with a mammoth 25-track feast covering every shade of the techno spectrum.

The project was devised in 2012 as a way of showcasing the wealth of strong material Adam Beyer receives each year, which due to Drumcode‘s busy release schedule, might not otherwise find a home on the label. Since then, it’s grown to become an essential fixture on the techno release schedule and a marker for where the genre stands in any given year.

The highlight-rich project includes the debut collaboration between Layton Giordani & HI-LO, a huge 2022 highlight which was released as an advanced streaming single on Friday 18th November and has racked up 130k+ streams within four days of release. There’s also a fantastic single from Juliet FoxEvolution of Thinking‘, a psy-laced head-warper ‘Astronaut‘ from Jay Lumen and ‘Pulsation‘ a dreamy new cut from Julian Jeweil.

A string of debutants make their first appearance on the label including ascendent Argentinean producer Nicolas Taboada, Anna Reusch, Andres Campo, A.D.H.S, LAAT and rising French techno artists Cosmic Boys.

Elsewhere Drumcode crew Tiger Stripes, Wehbba, Veerus, Mark Reeve and Thomas Hoffknecht, among others, lay down a string of heaters.

We’re also treated to Nicole Moudaber‘s first Drumcode contribution in three years with ‘Come To My Beat‘ featuring Romina; the return of BEC, who’s been in impressive form in recent years and on-point contributions from Marco Faraone, Zimmz and Avision, who all make welcome returns to the imprint. One of the most vital contributions comes from Glasgow’s Gary Beck, who last dropped music on DC in 2016. His searing weapon ‘Ship Went Down‘ makes for an exhilarating compilation moment.

Duke & Jones & Marlhy join forces on new single ‘State Of Mind’

Pairing poignant progressive house beats with Marlhy’s soaring vocals, ‘State Of Mind’ is a powerful club track that leaves a lasting impression. It marks the follow-up to ‘Lucid’ and ‘Jiggle Jiggle’, Duke & Jones’ viral smash with Louis Theroux. One of the biggest ever sounds on TikTok, it has amassed over 77 million Spotify streams and counting.

“‘State Of Mind’ is about realising you haven’t been seeing the full person in a relationship,” says Marlhy. “Sometimes it’s hard to see the negative attributes of someone when you fall in love, and this song is about reflecting on that and acknowledging the mistake.”

“‘State of Mind’ was hugely inspired by Marlhy’s vocals,” add Duke & Jones. “The lyrics explore overlooking problems in a past relationship, and nostalgic, progressive house elements complemented that feeling. The drop is the cathartic moment. As the production is stripped back, the song moves from remembering the past to letting it go and moving forward.”

Duke & Jones are quickly establishing themselves as one of the most forward-thinking acts in the industry. Carving a reputation as ‘producer’s producers’ they continue to prove that true talent doesn’t need a record label or huge co-sign to make waves – instead, they let the music speak for itself.

Their unique sound has helped them garner millions of global listeners – including a loyal TikTok following who are hooked to their hilarious autotune videos – and support from some of the biggest artists in the world. Following the mega success of the viral hit ‘Jiggle Jiggle‘, where they collaborated with Louis Theroux, Amelia Dimoldenberg and Jason Derulo, Duke & Jones hit number 49 on the Billboard Emerging Artists Chart. The track also became an emote on Fortnite, and was supported by a plethora of celebrities including Snoop Dogg, Coldplay, Shakira and press alike, such as Lad Bible, LA Times, Newsweek, Sky News and loads more.

A musician, actress, television personality and internet sensation, Marlhy has worked with bands such as The Regrettes, Pretty Little Demons, Zeppos, We’re Not Dudes and Purple Hats and Jetpacks, and is the youngest ever performer at SXSW.

A sizzling collaboration, ‘State Of Mind‘ explores the sweet spot between raw emotion and dance floor energy.

Idris Elba Unveils Energetic Music Video For The Thumping ‘Body Shots’

In need of no introduction, Idris Elba juggles a flourishing music career with his status as one of the most sought-after actors on the planet.

Riding the wave of a renewed musical vigor, he follows a string of exciting summer dancefloor releases with an official music video for his slamming house track ‘Body Shots’. The dance-based performance video injects the track with darkly lit club vibes, as Idris brings the party to your screens.

Released earlier in the summer, the track boasts an old-skool inspired bass line, rasping swung hi-hats, eclectic synth stabs and a sultry vocal sample, which results in a thumping house track. Idris explains:

“Body Shots is a record I produced just in time for my summer sets, especially for Ibiza earlier in the year! The track is just pure vibes, we just shot a wicked video infused with celebration of lights and movement to display the real essence of the tune. The visual reminds me old school MTV vibes.”

This follows previous single ‘Biggest’, which was used by Apple to launch the new iPhone 14. Also, this summer saw Idris play out a residency at David Guetta‘s night at Hi Ibiza, as well a monster collab with The FaNaTiX on the global hit ‘Vroom‘ – on which Idris featured alongside Lil Tjay, Davido and Koffee.

His 7Wallace imprint continues to provide a platform for established talent, having released music from Che Lingo, Q-Tip, Cypress Hill, Little Simz, Toddla T and Chip. One of the label’s recent releases, the Afro-pop jam ‘Ashobi’, saw Idris collaborate with Sierra Leone’s biggest contemporary artist Drizilik. This recent flurry of music releases showcases Elba’s ability to cross genres in his unique way, always with a focus on the dancefloor whilst embracing his West African roots.

With ‘Body Shots Idris Elba continues to demonstrate a vastly impressive versatility and musical range.

Gary Beck lands on Patrick Topping’s Trick with ‘I Like It’

Multi-talented DJ and producer, Gary Beck has featured on some of Techno’s leading imprints, including Drumcode, Cocoon, and Saved as well as his own BEK Audio imprint, a label which has hosted the likes of Floorplan, Mark Broom, Slam, DJ Rush, and many more.

Now arriving on Patrick Topping’s Trick, the techno-titan drops two party-starting tracks this November.

Gary Beck – I Like It

Here’s what Gary Beck had to say about the release:

“I have been following the Trick label for some time, and I really enjoy the variety of music that’s being released. It’s fun party tunes with character and identity, which I love. I decided to work on a couple of tunes that might fit, the first one being ‘I Like It’. It has all the elements of a good old rave tune, and it’s been working amazing in every set.”

Honey Dijon delivers official video for exclusive album track ‘It’s Quiet Now’

In line with today’s release of her anticipated sophomore album Black Girl Magic, Honey Dijon delivers the official music video for one of the album tracks ‘It’s Quiet Now’ featuring Dope Earth Alien.

Directed by LA-based vocalist, songwriter and visual artist Cor.ece and featuring Clare Richè and Brandon Lucas as the leading roles, this striking video continues to demonstrate Honey’s impact as a multi-disciplinary artist across the Black Girl Magic project.

With the intention of demonstrating the experiences of trans women, Honey and Cor.ece’s vision explores the intimate and emotional moments of the protagonist’s life, including the challenges she faces in her relationship. Wanting to create a captivating story, Cor.ece describes the project:

“What was most important for me about directing ‘It’s Quiet Now’ was making sure I told a story that was not only revealing and raw but also empowering for the protagonist at the centre. We get to witness peace that is earned–and fought for. I don’t think we can see enough depictions of real self-love…

‘It’s Quiet Now’ is already one of those special tracks that is not only seductive for the dancefloor, but it tells a story. Honey and I wanted to bring this story to life. In three minutes, we get a full arc from pain to romance to true liberation.”

Coming in line with the release of Honey’s new album, across 15 tracks of attitude, energy, heart, and community, Honey demonstrates a broad range of disciplines and influences on Black Girl Magic. Enlisting A-List collaborators such as Channel Tres, EVE, Pabllo Vittar, Josh Caffe, Mike Dunn, and more for an unmissable, boundary-pushing LP, Honey continues to elevate what it means to be an electronic artist in 2022 with this striking album.
