ALPHA 9 presents ‘Down To Love’ Ft. Jonathan Mendelsohn

ALPHA 9

Lifted from the forthcoming debut album, ‘New Horizons’ (out January 13, 2023), ALPHA 9 presents ‘Down To Love’ with vocalist Jonathan Mendelsohn.

Artem Stolyarov. Whether he’s ARTY or ALPHA 9, he’s always been sensational. Artem first arrived on Anjuna’s radar in 2010. What followed was a stellar run under his ARTY alias: ‘Rush’, ‘Zara’, ‘Around The World’, ‘Rebound’, and ‘Kate’ are Anjunabeats classics, and helped define the sound of the label in the early 2010s. Artem’s ALPHA 9 alias is where he has found his stride in recent years.

Focusing on the progressive trance that he fell in love with as a teenager, some of Artem’s standout moments as ALPHA 9 include ‘Before The Dawn’, ‘Stellar’, ‘Skin’, and his faithful update of Above & Beyond, and ZoĂ« Johnston’s evergreen classic ‘Good For Me’.

ALPHA 9 Down to Love

ALPHA 9‘s energetic sets have been heard at Steel Yard, Dreamstate, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, UshuaĂŻa, Amnesia Ibiza, and Creamfields, winning him millions of fans worldwide. Most recently, he thrilled 22,000 fans at Above & Beyond’s sold-out Group Therapy 500 celebrations in Los Angeles, where a special surprise was awaiting at the end of his performance – the announcement of his debut album as ALPHA 9, ‘New Horizons’.

Featuring fourteen tracks from across the ALPHA 9 universe, ‘New Horizons’ takes the ALPHA 9 project to soaring new heights. “This is a new chapter,” Artem says. “I’m very confident in the direction I’m taking this project. This new album is a journey through the beginning of ALPHA 9’s artistry to now.”

‘New Horizons’ has lived many lives: Artem feels this is the most honest, raw, and energising music he’s created yet. “It’s called ‘New Horizons’ because it’s the journey from the first steps of ALPHA 9 to maturity,” Artem says. “This is ALPHA 9’s signature, instantly recognizable sound, but it’s also future-facing and explores new horizons.”

Joining ALPHA 9 on ‘Down to Love’ is Jonathan Mendelsohn. A voice that will be recognized by fans of nearly every genre of mainstage dance, he sings on records including Seven Lions and Jason Ross’ ‘Oceans’ and ‘Foolish Of Me’, Brennan Heart’s hardstyle hit ‘Imaginary’, plus Hardwell and KAAZE’s collaboration ‘We Are Legends’.

Brighton Music Conference – BMC Announce 10th Anniversary Edition

Brighton Music Conference (BMC), the UK’s foremost electronic music and networking event will host its 10th Anniversary edition from 24th to 26th May 2023 at the prestigious Brighton i360 beachfront complex.

The first full edition on BMC after the pandemic in 2022 focused on getting ‘back to the music’ and the 10th anniversary edition will focus on the importance of communities with Bristol Night Time Economy Advisor, Carly Heath summing it up perfectly in her talk last year stating that “Nightlife is where communities happen”.

The concept for the event came from the idea that the UK is a world leader when it comes to electronic music, but didn’t have its own electronic music industry conference and so in 2014 BMC was born.

Starting life at the Brighton Dome the conference has grown into the leading event for electronic music in the UK with thousands of people attending and over 250 industry professionals taking part in events, panels and workshops over the three days each year, plus exclusive pod parties on the i360 observation tower, the Label Lounge A&R sessions and numerous networking events at some of Brighton’s best loved venues to meet colleagues and make new connections.

BMC was also awarded by the NTIA at the Ambassadors of the Night Awards 2019 for their work and commitment to developing awareness and education of the UK Electronic Music Scene internationally within the NTE.

BMC Founder Billy Mauseth explains:

“When I started in the industry we didn’t have anything like BMC to help people with their careers and we wanted to create an event that everyone can enjoy and a place for the industry to come together. We are all part of the same tribe, the same family and everyone can come together at BMC to learn, be inspired, network and enjoy amazing music and DJ sets.”

BMC’s vision is to create the most informative learning platform and networking opportunities to form new business relationships and collaborations for professionals and enthusiasts in the electronic music industry through various talks, seminars, workshops, networking events and gigs. BMC 2023 will once again present a full programme of panels, Q&A’s, workshops and networking events which will take place over three days from 24th to 26th May 2023. Exclusive Interview with Sugar Jesus and ILY

With previous releases on Universal Music, Sirup, Be Yourself and Soave – along with support from the likes of Hardwell, Sam Feldt, Swanky Tunes and Stone Bridge – Sugar Jesus (Andrei Basirov) now drops his new single with revered Swedish vocalist, ILY.

Signed to Sadboy Records, the release sees Sugar Jesus & ILY combine anthemic vocals, 80’s inspired synths and four to the floor goodness – creating the perfect workout soundtrack and a future sure-fire player.

We caught up with the pair to find out a little more about their release and plans for the future!

Welcome to Rave Jungle both! Where in the world can we find you currently located?

Sugar Jesus: I am currently sitting in my studio in East Toronto, Canada.

ILY: I am found In Stockholm, Sweden, the capital of the north as some say 🙂

With the recent release of your single ‘Body Moving’, is this your first collaboration together on a record?

Sugar Jesus: It is indeed, we are yet to actually meet in person but I was a fan of ILY’s from her records with producers like Tom Ferry and BLEM, I think her voice is instantly recognizable on a record.

ILY: Yes, it is! I’m very happy to collaborate with Andrei since he’s an amazing producer that I knew of from before.

Can you tell us a bit about the writing & production process, along with when you started mapping everything out?

Sugar Jesus: There was a moment in dance music around 15 years ago which I loved where every music video was a load of hot people working out in a gym, records like ‘Perfect (Exceeder)’ by Mason and ‘Call On Me’ by Eric Prydz. This record felt like it belonged in that space, so I set out to create something super high energy with a slight retro-vibe that could become an anthem for both the gym and the club!

ILY: This top line was written when I really needed some good uplifting energy myself, after the pandemic, when the world was opening up again and the feeling was to really reboot and get back to business.

How did you come to sign the single to Sadboy Records?

Sugar Jesus: I signed with Sadboy Records late last year having previously worked together on a couple records, and the connection with ILY came about through her manager Kevin Continelli.

ILY: I have worked with them through my amazing Canadian manager Kevin, both with my debut album and also an earlier collaboration with Canadian producer BLEM.

With ‘Body Moving’ securing DJ support from R3HAB & Bingo Players, any plans on a remix package to follow?

Sugar Jesus: Would be cool, I have had a fair few requests for the stems from other producers.

ILY: Why not, would be fun!

What’s a piece of advice you’d offer an artist currently trying to break through?

Sugar Jesus: Release lots of music, seek interesting collaborations, try and be as experimental as possible in the initial stages of the song writing/production process.

ILY: Release a lot of music, try to find your tone as an artist, make collabs, it’s often a great opportunity to develop and find new audiences. Consistency is key in the end.

Finally, any other exclusive news you can share with us?

Sugar Jesus: Aside from running for president in 2024, the follow up to ‘Body Moving’ is called ‘Antidote’ and it comes out on Friday 25th November!

ILY: A lot of new music is in progress and I’m happy to be releasing it step by step. I’m really in a fun space musically when I feel a creative freedom to go outside my box and experiment a bit.

Adana Twins Return to TAU with ‘Snake Ritual’

adana twins

It’s been a minute since TAU’s label heads dropped a release on their own platform, but trust us, this one is worth the wait.

Following standout releases on the likes of Innervisions and Watergate Records (to name a few) already this year, Adana Twins now return to Planet TAU with a total dance floor bomb, ‘Snake Ritual’.

This cut has been doing the work globally, causing uproar wherever it is played, and now it’s time for the track to have its official release.

Adana Twins – Snake Ritual

The first thing that will strike you about this cut is the meticulous attention to detail; the drums are layered exquisitely, with just the right amount of pump and vigour to cultivate hypnotic energy.

At the low end they keep it simple, yet deadly, until the mesmerising main riff comes in just after the 2min 30 mark. This is when the dance floor is ignited, and the earworm melody infects your mainframe, willing to dance and express yourself with wild abandon.

Adana Twins have developed an uncanny understanding of the dance floor over years and years of touring the globe, testing out, and playing, thousands of tracks.

‘Snake Ritual’ taps into their intuitive understanding of the club, encompassing a mystical, hypnotic atmosphere that develops into an explosive breakdown. It’s good to have the bosses back, at their finest.

Jeremy Olander debuts on Watergate Records with 3-Track EP ‘Silius’

Silius EP – the brand new three-track package from Swedish DJ and producer Jeremy Olander – is out now via Watergate Records.

After a long hiatus away from releasing original music that stretched for over a year, Olander returned to his Vivrant imprint when putting out his summer single Murphy in early August. The melodic peak-time record garnered DJ support from the likes of Jimi Jules, Hunter/Game, John Digweed, Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo, Lane 8, and Fideles, saw specialist radio support by BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM, Swedish Radio P3, Capital FM, FG Extra, as well as extensive editorial coverage from Spotify on playlists Open Air, Electronic Rising, New Music Friday, Altar, 4 AM Chillout, Beats of Tomorrow and more.

Now, the 35-year-old Swede returns with his first EP project of 2022 that also marks his debut on German powerhouse label Watergate Records. After opening its now legendary club over 20 years ago, the Berlin hotspot was eventually coupled with a label imprint 6 years later. Since then, Watergate Records has been at the forefront of forward-thinking house and techno and has paved the way for artists such as Jimi Jules, Solomun and Butch.

The EP, consisting of two original outings coupled with a remix of lead track Silius by Afterlife standout duo Alfa Romero, has wreaked havoc at the Swede’s sold-out spring and summer shows at prominent clubs and festivals in the likes of The Bow in Buenos Aires, Sound in Los Angeles, Cercle Festival in Paris and Village Underground in London.

The lead record Silius, a dark and sinister Olander record with an arrangement akin to a traditional intro-style track, has seen early support from the likes of Adriatique and showcases the versatility of Olander’s capabilities as a producer. With a delicate lead melody contrasted against viciously thumping kick drums and menacing FX detailing, it makes for an astounding listening experience that will surely become a staple surefire weapon at clubs and festivals alike in the fall and winter of 2022.

Refusing to be pigeonholed in any genre box, Jeremy’s ‘Silius’ EP is a bonafide genre-transcending project that breaks rules and maintains an element of surprise throughout. Infused with elements of epic movie scores, 90s trance, and a dash of Olander’s discernable Pryda heritage, the 35-year-old Swede continues to push the envelope and carve out his own stylistic niche that separates and elevates him as an artist.

With additional high-profile releases for the winter and noteworthy shows at City Hall in Stockholm, Palacio Alsina in Cordoba and Piknic Électronik in Melbourne, opportunities for fans to be mesmerized by Olander and his new music are plentiful.

Interview with NWA’s Arabian Prince about his new role in mentoring young DJs and producers in the Middle East

Long before 1988’s Straight Outta Compton album put NWA, gangster rap, and Los Angeles on the hip hop map—not to mention putting the national spotlight on issues of police brutality and social justice in America—founding member, DJ and Producer, Arabian Prince, had been using an 808 to rock sweaty dance floorswith his signature electro-funk sound.

His long and storied career in the music industry, filled with successes—and challenges—means that he has much to offer young artists looking to make a career as a DJ.

We sat down to speak with him on how dance music influenced gangster rap, his new role in mentoring young DJs and producers in the Middle East, and how he continues to leverage technology outside of music.

When did you first get interested in electronic music?

While most people know me from my time with NWA, I was actually into producing and DJing early electro-funk music (along with Dr. Dre and Egyptian Lover) well before the gangster rap scene exploded. I have always been very much into party music—which rap very much was in the 1980s—focused on dancing and having a good time.

Most of the music I produced then would very much be considered electronic—you can definitely feel the influence on the NWA track Something 2 Dance 2. As an avid gamer and coder from way back, I’ve always been an advocate of exploring technology and incorporating new sounds into music—which is why it’s so inspiring to see electronic music and its countless subgenres taking off today.

What drew you to MDLBEAST and working on the electronic music scene?

I connected with MDLBEAST in 2021 to serve as an advisor to their XP Music Conference, which is about bringing DJs, bands, managers, agents and venues together to help develop and shape the electronic music industry in Saudi Arabia in a way that is smart and sustainable.

Saudi Arabia is currently undergoing such an incredibly profound social and cultural transformation, and MDLBEAST is at the forefront of establishing a true connection between Saudi Arabia and the world through music. While it might sound crazy to outsiders, it’s only been a few years since holding parties and concerts in public became legal in Saudi Arabia. So, there is a lot of raw talent that needs guidance how to create real, sustainable and profitable careers as DJs, songwriters, or producers.

What can we expect at Soundstorm next month?

MDLBEAST isn’t just about the business side of music—they also throw a massive festival, Soundstorm, which last year saw 720,000+ people attend. This year we will have house and techno pioneers like Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Loco Dice and Ricardo Villalobos, but we will also see the inclusion of major hip hop artists such as DJ Khaled, Post Malone, and Wizkid bringing the Nigerian heat!

How does your experience as an artist in America (and as a producer for NWA) speak to emerging artists in the Middle East?

I now have over 40 years of working in the music industry in the U.S. and my experience has afforded me so much knowledge of the dos and don’ts when it comes to music production, business, marketing and all other aspects of music. Many people are aware of the challenges that NWA went through early on trying to navigate managers, record labels and trying to make a real career out of music. I love sharing these insights with the next generation of artists looking to do the same. Most artists focus mostly on the music and forget about an equally important part—the business.

5. What have been the success stories from Saudi artists thus far?

I have always been a huge proponent of pushing female artists, such as producing Supersonic for J.J. Fad in 1988. Many people, particularly in the U.S., are surprised to learn that women are very much at the forefront of the blossoming music and nightlife industry in Saudi Arabia—from the leadership team at MDLBEAST to groundbreaking DJs such as Cosmicat, Biirdperson and Solskin. These ladies are putting out EPs and playing at the major festivals around the world. They’re doing big things!

What’s coming up for Arabian Prince in 2023 and beyond?

Of course, DJing, producing and mentoring young artists will always be a key part of my life, but aside from that my focus of my time and effort is to drive the reimagination of the future of both healthcare and wellness through MdDAO. DAO stands for “decentralized autonomous organization,” which is a fancy way of saying that the technology will link consumers directly to healthier living through the power of the metaverse. Essentially, the goal is for people without means to be able to have access to quality healthcare.

And me and my old friend Ice-T are working on a graphic novel and animated series called Death For Hire: The Origin of Tehk City. Stay tuned!

MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 takes place 1-3 December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Tickets available here!
