Marcel Fengler begins new chapter with ’10 Years IMF’ label compilation

As 2022 concludes, Berlin techno figurehead Marcel Fengler opens a new career chapter with the announcement of ’10 Years IMF’, an inspiring compilation that marks a decade of his influential label Index Marcel Fengler.

A “heart project” two years in the making, the work showcases 12 cuts exclusive to the compilation, and in-line with the imprint’s ethos, unites established and emerging artists.

At the same time, true to Fengler‘s own vision, it presents productions that span the full breadth of the techno genre – whether it be funky, elegant, industrial, atmospheric or broken beat, right through to the harder techno variety, ‘10 Years IMF‘ stands as Fengler’s personal manifesto of techno and the artistic possibilities of the genre.

Marcel Fengler – 10 Years IMF

Functional and thrilling in equal doses, the compilation explores Fengler‘s multi-faceted vision of techno, curating a line-up of tracks from artists across the generations; there’s Etapp Kyle intricate breakbeat-laden ‘None‘, Dasha Rush‘s full-bodied industrial funk ‘RAW 21‘, the frenetic grooves of SHDW & Obscure Shape‘s ‘Deep Rising‘ and .VRIL‘s incandescent synth-led ‘Hybris‘, alongside a troupe of fresh talent still in their production infancy.

STEYA, who’s set to release her debut EP on IMF in 2023, gives us an exciting taste of what’s to come with ‘Prototype X‘, a deliciously punchy cut imbued with plenty of swing; prodigal teenage talent Cratan aka Decoder is rated by Fengler as the most exciting young talent in techno and the silky sci-fi weapon ‘Lazka‘ makes a terrific highlight. “A wonderful tune that ideally completed the V/A like a missing puzzle piece,” the IMF boss shares before promising there will be more to come for Cratan on the label.

Rising Berlin-based Ukrainian producer Chontane is another who excites him, joining the label off the back off strong cuts on Arts and Rekids, with ‘Dira‘: “His style is a good balance of soulful sound layers and a big portion of danceable grooves. I absolutely love it.” Rodiaz‘s ‘The Ancient Sage‘ has been a beloved go-to track to close out sets for Fengler and appropriately winds out the project. It’s a timely reminder that techno can be simultaneously elegant and powerful and the dancefloor need not suffer any loss of energy because of it. “He sent me a playlist of uncompromising stunners and each track was better than the last,” he buzzes. “Expect more bangers on IMF soon.”

“The 10th anniversary of my label Index Marcel Fengler (IMF) is a very special milestone for me. I originally created the label just to have a platform to release my own music. Over the course of the last 10 years, things have changed, of course. But it has always been a central need of mine to be inspired by the artists who release on IMF, but at the same time not to run after trends without any exception.

This is expressed both in the artistic and musical composition of ’10 Years IMF’. In addition to established artists such as Dasha Rush, Etapp Kyle or The Advent, it was particularly important to me to also focus on new and up-and- coming artist profiles. Producers like Cratan, STEYA, Chontane or Rodiaz are extremely exciting talents who inspire me musically at the moment and I am incredibly happy to welcome them to the IMF family.”Marcel Fengler

BLOND:ISH, HUGEL & Nfasis team up on new track ‘Tra Tra’

Blond:ish

Following on from a unstoppable run of individual releases, HUGEL and BLOND:ISH join forces with reggaeton star Nfasis to release Tra Tra. A track which has been dominating dancefloors from Circoloco to EXIT Festival all summer, Tra Tra is available to stream and purchase from today.

Three artists with remarkable credentials, Tra Tra has been reimagined into a standout club-ready rework of Nfasis‘ much-loved original. Unique in style and gliding between Latin House, Afro House and a driving dance beat, Tra Tra has continuously found its way into the record bags of DJs across the globe and has ignited dancefloors and sound systems.

Here’s what HUGEL had to say about the track:

“In the beginning we just wanted to experiment some Afro/Amapiano drums and then we had the idea to mix it with a reggaeton vocal. The sonic of this tune is very unique. It’s a mix of a lot of different genre that never really been blended together. Collaborating with BLOND:ISH who is my favourite female DJ right now, and Nfasis a legend of the Reggaeton scene is a beautiful way to end this amazing year.”

“I’ve been living in Miami, where Latin culture rules and I’m always inspired by my surroundings, so this collab with HUGEL and Nfasis was us experimenting with the cross section of genres & proper Latin vibes to get down on. A lot of my music is with a purpose, this one is a bit lighter and not meant to be taking ourselves so serious-lee. TRA TRA.”BLOND:ISH

“Move Like That”, a song born at the UNTOLD Festival is finally out!

“Move like that,” a song with festival vibes born this summer at Romania’s acclaimed UNTOLD Festival is finally out. The musical piece was created within the unique project UNTOLD Sessions by DeMoga Music, which is the only mobile recording studio inside the festival.

The track “Move like that” is the creation of the Romanian producer Sambo with the voice of the local singer SBSTN (Sebastian) and is now available on Spotify, YouTube, ‎Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Deezer, and all the links are available here.

UNTOLD Sessions by DeMoga Music is a concept created in 2018 at the UNTOLD Festival in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Marius Moga, the owner of the DeMoga Music label, is also a Romanian producer, A&R, artist, and composer. His musical projects have been successful in Romania, as well as in Russia, Ukraine, France, and the USA.

Marius Moga is the first Romanian composer nominated for a Grammy for his collaboration with Maroon 5. He created songs for Maroon 5, Train, Strange Talk, R3hab, Icona Pop, Morandi, SonnaRele, Monoir, Otilia and Brianna, and many other local and international artists. Through his publishing and music label, Marius Moga is famous for hunting talents that he positioned on the map of Romanian music and international songwriting camps.

“I am glad to have outlined this project together with UNTOLD. “Move Like That” is a colorful song, and the two Romanian artists Sambo and SBSTN are very talented,” said Marius Moga, the owner of DeMoga Music.

“Move like that” is the emotion you see around you when people are having fun and connecting at a festival. This energy is unique and has inspired me. The production process took around 3-4 hours during the festival, and after we returned to the studio, it took another hour max. Everything came naturally. After we finished the initial version, Marius Moga came up with the idea to send the song to SBSTN to sing the lyrics. It was just the right voice at the right time,” said Alexander Sambo, Artist & Producer at DeMoga Music.

Sambo is a Romanian producer at DeMoga Music and is the creator of the song “Move like that.” Although Sambo has produced music for other local artists, the song “Move like that” also represents his official release as the first artist signed by the UNTOLD Festival.

SBSTN (Sebastian) is the voice of the song “Move like that.” Although he is known in the Romanian music industry as Bastien, he tried a new approach and is enjoying his current success with this collaboration.

Pioneer DJ presents the DDJ-FLX4 2-Channel DJ Controller

Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 DJ Controller

In a move to expand the DJ industry with new artists and talent, AlphaTheta Music Americas’ Pioneer DJ brand today announces a fresh addition to its family of DJ controllers, the DDJ-FLX4. The all-new 2-channel DJ controller combines foundational elements from Pioneer DJ’s range of professional equipment with an intuitive and educational user interface to help aspiring artists embark on their mixing journey.

The DDJ-FLX4 integrates two new smart features to help beginner DJs start mixing—Smart Fader and Smart CFX. Smart Fader allows artists to effortlessly transition between tracks with a simple glide of the crossfader or channel faders. After sliding the fader, the DDJ-FLX4 automatically adjusts the track’s BPM, volume, bass volume and other aspects of the music to create a seamless transition into the next song. Artists can also spice up their favorite tracks with the help of Smart CFX—an effect that applies complicated combinations of effects to the music with the turn of a knob.

“DJing is a truly unique artform; its ability to evoke strong emotions and create deep connections between music and people is incredibly powerful,” said Yoshinori Kataoka, President and CEO of AlphaTheta Corporation.

“Pioneer DJ is dedicated to using its background and in-depth knowledge in DJ technology to develop products that make it easy for people with no experience to start mixing. I hope the DDJ-FLX4 can help people take their first steps in learning the art of mixing and to start their DJ journey” he added.

DDJ-FLX4 Controller

The all-new DDJ-FLX4 DJ controller design couples a simplistic matte grey body and metallic grey mixer to provide aspiring artists a sleek, performance-intuitive first controller to start mixing on. Artists can familiarize themselves with fundamental mixing skills using the controller’s two glossy jog wheels and sampling techniques with eight performance pads on each deck. The controller employs a bright amber orange LED light to illuminate key controls, while still maintaining the controller’s minimalistic aesthetic.

Streaming performances to friends, family and followers is easy with the DDJ-FLX4‘s USB audio output design. This design removes the need for external equipment such as a mixer or soundcard and outputs the microphone from the controller. In doing so, artists can share their set via stream from a single computer. Better yet, the DDJ-FLX4 relies on USB bus power—allowing artists to practice and play on the go.

Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 controller

Pioneer DJ‘s DDJ-FLX4 extends artists the freedom to mix with their software of choice: Pioneer DJ’s rekordbox or Serato. When mixing with rekordbox for Mac/Windows, artists receive free use of the software’s Performance mode. Better yet, a major update to rekordbox for iOS/Android coming in early 2023 will allow for DDJ-FLX4 use with an artist’s iPhone, Android smartphone, iPad or Android tablet.

The DDJ-FLX4 also offers artists free use of Serato DJ Lite. Additionally, artists can upgrade their Serato capabilities with a Serato DJ Pro subscription. Both rekordbox and Serato enable artists to play music files stored on their device; as well as tracks from TIDAL, Beatport Streaming, Beatsource Streaming and SoundCloud Go+. (Paid Subscriptions May Be Required).

Launched in October this year the Beams has welcomed the world’s finest dance music artists and labels to London’s newest dedicated culture space. The closing show in the AW22 season will continue this world-class level of talent with a double headline show from The Martinez Brothers and Skepta (DJ Set)

Having started his musical path as a DJ and MC for his brother JME, Skepta has recently gone back to his roots with a highly-anticipated DJ set at the legendary Circoloco party at DC-10, Ibiza. Exploring a different side of his musical identity, the London-based artist promises to surprise the audience with his unique take on dance music. Well versed in the world of electronic dance music from his days guesting on various London pirates or hosting at legendary clubs like Plastic People, Skepta will be sure to enthrall the crowd as he brings his own unique focus to club culture.

Two of the most sought after and talented artists to emerge from New York, Bronx-born DJs and producers The Martinez Brothers are no strangers to large scale club crowds, having performed at the world’s biggest and best clubs and festivals throughout the last decade. With their label imprint Cuttin’ Headz going from strength to strength, the brothers will be set to join forces with Skepta for a transatlantic exploration of modern dance music.

The Martinez Brothers

Co-headlined by the equally inimitable The Martinez Brothers, the three DJ’s will helm a unique tech-house orientated event that will play host to the first event from Skepta-affiliated house brand Más Tiempo. Supported by some extra special guests TBA, the last event of the year will bring in some new and seasoned talent to see the season out in style.

Pre-sale tickets for the Beams‘ final show will be available at 11am Tuesday 8th November. Any remaining tickets will be available for general sale at 11am Wednesday 9th November.

The Beams‘ 55,000 square-foot warehouse space, which is located in East London’s industrial district, is unlike anything else the city has to offer and provides an unparalleled audio-visual experience that has to be seen to be believed.

With Broadwick Live and LWE currently co-hosting the space, the Beams still has plenty to offer with seven events left of the current season, there is still plenty of time to witness world-renowned talent before the Beams shuts up shop for the rest of the year before launching its culture programme.

London’s premier festival brand, Junction 2, takes over the venue on November 12th. Expect Drumcode‘s own Adam Beyer alongside techno pioneer Richie Hawtin, plus Anii, IMOGEN, Vindya and Rkay in the main room. Further shows include Skreamizm, MK Presents and ABODE.
