Len Faki announces ‘Fusion EP 01/03’ and releases its first single ‘Don’t Be Stupid Day’

Berlin-based renowned techno artist Len Faki has announced the release of his next 4 track EP ‘Fusion EP 01/03’ and has released its first single ‘Don’t Be Stupid Day’ out 13th January on his label imprint Figure.

Layered with intricate sonics and centered around the namesake vocal, ‘Don’t Be Stupid Day’ is a deep, slow-burning techno roller. The single is a powerful introduction to a significant project that will land later this year and plays into the artists’ eclectic approach to electronic music.

The following EP tracks, ‘Hymn (In The Name of Fantasy)’ contrasts a dreamy, wisp-like melody with heavy punches of broken up bass. ‘Hymn (In The Name Of Freedom)’ borrows on the trancey lead synths and booming bass from those early days, making for an unusually euphoric and uplifting Faki track.

Finally, ‘Tempel’ aligns with his reputation as a DJ, steadily layering mechanic percussion for an ever-increasing sense of rhythmic urgency.

Richie Hawtin announces the ‘From Our Minds – To Be Announced’ 2023 tour

Foundational electronic music artist Richie Hawtin, aka Plastikman, announces the ‘From Our Minds – To Be Announced’ 2023 tour, the next evolutionary step in his lifelong commitment supporting the development of the electronic music scene.

On March 10th, this unique eight-date tour will begin in the birthplace of techno, Detroit, and come to a series of North American warehouses. With a mission to develop and increase awareness of the younger generation, the tour showcases a diverse group of North American underground artists moving the ideals of ’90s techno forward in their own unique ways.

The ‘From Our Minds – To Be Announced Tour‘ evolves from Hawtin‘s CNTRL tours in 2012 & 2015, when, as EDM was booming across the US, Hawtin toured American college cities by bus, giving a series of performances, lectures and workshops, aimed at educating a new generation of electronic music enthusiasts on the sound and origins of techno music.

Today, as techno becomes increasingly popular and commercialized, Hawtin, is once again seeking to provide context and nurture the underground, playing intimate warehouse shows with independent promoters, while highlighting a new generation of artists and celebrating the collaborative and cross-generational nature of techno.

This tour will mark the North American debut of ‘From Our Minds‘, which takes its slogan and ethos from Hawtin‘s ’90s label imprint Plus 8 and its ‘From Our Minds To Yours‘ slogan, connecting back to the early days of techno. The tour has been developed with Canada-based Genova Agency founded by artists Barbosa, Decoder, and Garrett Finn (aka Rhyot).

From Our Minds presents a fascinating insight into where Richie is channeling his creative energy. Initially discovering the tour’s rising techno talents via their demos and playing their music out live over the past two years, he turned his sights towards finding a way to provide them with the platform to grow and reach new audiences.

The artists picked by Hawtin to join this tour span the vastness of North America, from Canada to Detroit, to New York and across the South West, representing scenes beyond the traditional major cities. Label owners, visual artists, producers and DJs, these are artists that Richie believes are helping push the techno scene and sound forward in innovative new ways. The tour marks the first time they will unite together under one billing.

“Since starting my first label +8 in 1990, it’s always been important for me to help nurture, develop and promote new like-minded artists. Today with the ever-growing popularity and globalization of Techno, it’s critical to collaborate with the next generation, learning from one another and pushing forward together with open-minded curiosity.”Richie Hawtin

Highlighting Richie‘s home country is the Canadian artist Barbosa, owner of the Heist Mode label and infamous for blurring the lines between hypnosis and brutality in his music. Out of New York is producer & DJ, Jay York, who runs the vinyl label TOCA Records with DJ and producer Decoder. Decoder, a Dallas based music producer and DJ who specializes in the realm of sci-fi & deep techno. Also from Texas comes Declan James, whose notorious experimental, genre-bending qualities have been described by Resident Advisor as “futuristic and transfixing”. Declan will also be playing b2b sets across the tour with Decoder as their side project “Frame.”

SF-born, Phoenix-based, Lindsey Herbert first encountered techno as an EDM fan on the CNTRL tour, and has been a champion of the sound in the South West ever since. Her journey now comes full circle, playing her alternating soundscapes that straddle the dark, deep and psychedelic alongside Hawtin. She’s joined by Octopus Recordings artist Michelle Sparks, another DJ that has been instrumental to the growth of the currently burgeoning underground rave scene in the South West.

Emerging from Detroit, Henry Brooks is penning a new blueprint for dark dancefloors everywhere. regularly draws parallels between the flow-like meditative state both he and his audience members connect to while he’s spinning, and his own spiritual practices. Detroit producer, DJ, and visual artist Huey Mnemonic will also represent the birthplace of techno, and the city that has been instrumental to Hawtin since he was a teenager. Mnemonic’s mission is to both preserve and add to the rich lineage of his region’s homegrown sonic culture, channeling sci-fi, technology, and the Black American experience into everything that he does.

On the West Coast, is San Francisco DJ Deep Pedi, founder of the “It’s a Journey‘ underground party, and JIA, the Guam born, LA based artist who champions the worldwide electronic community via his brand 6AM Group. Both of these artists and crews have been instrumental to the new era of warehouse parties that are at the heart of these two cities techno scenes.

Completing the bill is Richie himself, an artist who has embodied the core pillars of techno since the formative years of his career. His focus on technological advancement, coupled with the energy he puts into connecting with, and nurturing younger artists, has been a contributing factor in revolutionizing techno and keeping it moving forward.

Across the tour, all venue locations will be provided to ticket buyers the day of the show. ‘From Our Minds‘ is working with independent local promoters who are aware and respectful of the history of techno music, and its future with sustainability in the programming, planning and execution of their events.

“This is a truly exciting time in electronic music as underground warehouses are thriving and corporate structures are falling apart. We believe that working with Rich, who has always been fearless in pushing boundaries and taking risks for the sake of the music, will be a game-changing step forward for techno on this continent.

This tour is not just a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us as artists and rising professionals to learn and grow, but a chance to inspire and lead the scene as a whole. It’s surreal to have the chance to collaborate with someone who has been at the forefront of the genre for decades, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.” Barbosa, Decoder & Garrett – Senior Partners of Genova Agency

Carl Cox and Secret Project Festival team up for exclusive live event in Amsterdam

Carl Cox

Carl Cox, in collaboration with Secret Project Festival, has announced an exclusive live event in Amsterdam. Secret Project presents Carl Cox Hybrid Live will take place on August 19th 2023 at the Hembrugterrein and will see Carl Cox performing his HYBRID live set as well as support acts DIØN, DJ Rush, DYEN, TRYM and several others. The festival will mark the legendary performer’s only appearance on the Dutch festival scene during the summer of 2023.

Carl Cox has recently reconfigured his performances into a hybrid live set up, (re-)creating music on the go in a way he has never done before. “It’s become increasingly difficult to stand out from the crowd in the DJing realm these days, so many people have become one! There are loads of DJs for each genre and so much variety within each genre as well but there aren’t that many live performing electronic artists.

With this new set up I’m trying to turn another corner in my career and push the space I’m in into a new level. I’ve got 35, 40 years in this game so I deeply care about it and where it’s going, I hope that I can contribute to it in a way through these performances” says Carl Cox speaking of the new concept.

Secret Project presents Carl Coc Hybrid LIVE

This new set up will be brought to life by Insomniac‘s Secret Project Festival exclusively in Amsterdam. The festival is uniquely focussed on a single stage, highlighting the iconic headlining performer. Secret Project Festival is well-regarded for their stage design capabilities as well as their inclusion of contemporary art pieces on their sites. With Secret Project putting all of their expertise into the production of the show and Carl Cox at the genesis of a performing renaissance, this live show is due to be one of the most talked about events of the summer.

With two widely celebrated ADE events wrapped up at the Hembrugterrein, the Secret Project crew are no strangers to the location. The organisation’s thorough familiarity with the festival site as well as their long-standing reputation as industry leaders in event production undoubtedly make for a top tier event. The Hembrugterrein, once serving as an industrial area, was repurposed as a creative and cultural hub in 2003 and has now evolved into the perfect backdrop for festivals and events.

Just off of the release of the second Future Rave EP titled ‘Episode 2’ with David Guetta, MORTEN now delights his fans with this hugely anticipated solo release, following last summer’s widely popular ‘No Good’.

The teaser that was posted on social media just a month ago has already garnered almost three million views, leaving many fans eager for the release of the track.

Rezz x Quackson x Wreckno Release Dance Floor Anthem ‘Gyrate’

rezz
REZZ

HypnoVizion label head Rezz and up-and-coming bass producer Quackson released ‘Gyrate ft. Wreckno’, an explosive, energetic track that inspires fear and pleasure at the same time. Quackson captured Rezz’s attention earlier this year with his demos, laying the groundwork for this massive collaboration. The perfect finishing touch to the track are the spicy vocals lended by the dance music’s fastest rising star, Wreckno.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2015 on Skrillex‘s label OWSLA, Rezz has solidified herself as a bass music icon with millions of streams, headlining slots at major festivals all over the world, and the launch of her own label imprint, HypnoVizion, last October. With HypnoVizion, she opened doors for budding producers like Seattle-based Quackson, who was influenced by her dark, hypnotic sound.

“Rezz was the artist who first inspired me to start producing, so this is a crazy full circle moment and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.”Quackson

Having opened for Rezz at her sold out Red Rocks shows last year, Wreckno was a natural choice to provide the punchy vocal hook that primes the track for its booming drop. Wreckno – 26-year-old DJ, rapper, producer, dancer, and LGBTQ+ icon – has had an impressive year, playing landmark events such as Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Lollapalooza; label releases with iconic brands such as Four Loko; and music featured in Fortnite and NBC Peacock’s “Queer As Folk.”

“I’m so excited that Rezz and Quackson reached out to collab on ‘Gyrate’. I had the privilege of joining Rezz on tour this past year and I’ve been itching to work together. This track is a total anthem that’s going to erupt on the dance floor!”Wreckno

The final product of this massive collaboration is a track that could feel equally at home in a nightclub as in a horror film. ‘Gyrate‘ will immediately capture fans of Rezz‘s signature midtempo style and draw in listeners from all other areas of bass music seeking a thrill.

“It definitely will be a track I play out live for a while,” Rezz said.
