Moby releases his 16-track album ‘Ambient 23′

Moby returns with his semi-annual tradition of releasing a new album of ambient compositions, with ‘Ambient 23,’ a 16-track exploration of the weightless form that is ambient, weaving improvised drifting sonics out of his collection of analog gear.

Moby reflects on how he created the album:

“It’s a bit different than some of my more recent Ambient records because it’s almost exclusively made with weird old drum machines and old synths from my collection, inspired by my early ambient heroes.”

In 2022 Moby launched his new label Always Centered at Night to do something uncompromising – to make emotional, atmospheric, and potentially beautiful music. With this ethos, the label brought us its debut release “Medusa”, a collaboration between Moby and Grammy-nominated artist and Doja Cat collaborator Aynzli Jones, “On Air” with serpentwithfeet, “Fall Back” with Akemi Fox and most recently the beautiful stripped-back orchestral “Ache For”, with José James.

Multiple releases on ACAN are planned for 2023 and beyond, with other news coming soon.

Moby is a multi-platinum-selling, multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, author, and animal rights activist.

Exclusive Interview with DJ & Producer duo Trimtone

We’re ready to welcome 2023 in the best way we know how, with music and new projects. Trimtone took some time to chat with us and told us more about what lies ahead for them in this exciting new year.

Hey, 2023 is here and we’d like to know what are your hopes for this year regarding your music career?

To keep progressing with our productions with Trimtone, with some big new tracks dropping on some major labels. We also have a big touring schedule planned taking our sound to USA, Australia, Ibiza, Portugal, Barbados and around the UK in 2023. Our Love to be… brand will be expanding with the Radio Show (Love to be…Global Connection) aiming to double our reach to over 15 million listeners as we currently are broadcasting the show on over 100 stations in over 30 countries.

We will also be building a team to push our events and record labels Love to be…recordings, Trimtone Records and Funkylove onto the next level.

What are your top 3 resolutions for this new year?

– Expand our DJ tour into territories that we already cover with our radio show, Australia and Miami watch out!!

– Develop new talent to work alongside, we have some amazing vocalists lined up to work with.

– Keep our production output at a high level and build upon the industry accolades, such as being voted one of the Traxsource top producers of the year, that we attained this year

Do you have any releases in the pipelines for the upcoming months?

Yes, we have quite a few Trimtone releases planned for 2023. The huge “I Belong to U” is dropping on Peppermint Jam in January. The first quarter in 2023 also see us release “Promises” on Cruise Records, “Together” on Onako, “Like Jazz” and “Bass Boy” on Chuggy Traxx and a transatlantic release with “I Can Feel the Music” on Chicago based label Dubstar along with a remix for Dallas based Juiced Music.

We are just putting the finishing touches on a release on Wh0 Plays. We also have collaborations on the way with Dan:Ros, DJ Threejay and Patrick Wayne Hiast, Folkness and Dan Laino. Also keep an ear out for a few releases dropping regularly on our Love to be…Recordings and Trimtone Records labels.

If you could pick any event, any stage, any place: where would you like to perform in 2023?

Defected Croatia would be on our wish list for sure… The vibe looks unreal!!

And following on from that, if the world was your oyster for selection, who would you like to collaborate with this new year?

We have a few collaborations under way, as mentioned before, but we will be reaching out to our co-hosts, David Morales and David Penn on the Love to be… Global Connection radio show to hopefully collaborate in 2023. Those guys are at the top of their game and our list for sure.

Are there any new hobbies or activities you’d like to try in 2023?

Dancing lessons wouldn’t go a miss based on our antics in the DJ booths around the world in 2022!!

Are there any new skills or new gear that you’d like to implement to your studio in 2023?

Having just moved into our new studio recently, we are planning to build a new vocal and recording booths to work with some of our new found talent. So mics, cabling and acoustic treatments are top of the list.

From a production standpoint, what would you say is the number one area you would like/need to invest time into in order to develop your production level?

There is always something new to learn in the studio with new software and hardware becoming available and we always like to integrate new techniques in our productions to keep them fresh. As mentioned before, working with vocalists and musicians at our studio is an area we will be investing in, which in turn will help us progress and have more control of our output.

Any new genres you’d like to explore next year?

We play a broad spectrum of House in our sets and this is also reflected in our productions, so we are always open to integrating new sounds, samples and ideas. The more diverse the better!! Alongside our Trimtone endeavors, we oversee a business that sources work for local based artists and we have some amazing jazz musicians on the books so expect a few jazz flavas on the way in 2023.

New sub-genres come and go into fashion every year, what are your predictions for 2023?

With tracks such as LF System crossing into the mainstream, the energetic sample led sound is on the rise. Also, samples and sounds from the heyday of the US house sound in the 90s will continue to break through. Both sounds we absolutely love so expect plenty of that from us.

Besides yourself, which artists or labels should people follow this year?

Wh0 and Selena Faider, who we work with closely, are ones to watch for sure.

Make a prediction for 2023 about the world or music and we’ll try and catch you this time next year to see if it came true!

Finally, the hoverboard will get off the ground and music-wise watch out for breakthrough artists becoming younger. The youth of today/tomorrow will have lots to say!!

Do you have a message for your followers for new year?

Thanks for all the support in 2022 and we hope to catch you on a dancefloor or radio station near you very soon. Keep an eye on your favorite download stores for us as we hope to bring you some big tracks in 2023. Keep dancing!!

DGTL reveals the full lineup for its 2023 edition in Amsterdam

DGTL Amsterdam

When they first announced dates for their flagship event back in November 2022, DGTL promised one of the most explosive line-ups and live shows for 2023.

As the list of names drops today it’s clear the festival giant has absolutely delivered on that promise. Global icons and dance floor heavyweights sit alongside rising stars from the next generation, with some of the Netherlands’ most fiercely regarded talent also making it onto the billing.

The depth and breadth of DGTL‘s billing as a whole also underlines their commitment towards genuine diversity and inclusivity. “Representation matters,” said Ellen Evers, DGTL‘s Festival Director. “We’ve worked hard to make sure our line-up reflects the entire spectrum of communities within dance music. It’s a chance to show what genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion can produce, and give a platform to exciting artists from all across the spectrum.”

DGTL Amsterdam 2023

Doors open at 22:00 Friday night, GRAMMY-winning UK producer Mura Masa making his heavily anticipated DGTL Amsterdam debut. With The Blessed Madonna, Passion Deez, and TAAHLIAH & I. Jordan lining up alongside him in the booth, those inside the grounds of NDSM Docklands will witness 2023’s edition kicked off in phenomenal style.

Across Saturday, the big hitters keep coming. Camelphat, Jayda G, Ela Minus (LIVE), Folamour, Honey Dijon, DJ Seinfeld, VTSS and Satori (LIVE) are just the tip of the iceberg of artists dropping mind-blowing sets over 11 hours, before Denis Sulta, Danilo Plessow, Bambounou, and Kamma & Masalo take things into the deeper, darker afterparty hours.

Sunday daytime sees one of dance music’s hottest events, an Eris Drew b2b Octo Octa set, sure to be one of the biggest draws of the entire weekend. Across the Docklands, the energy will reach boiling point, the likes of Moderat, The Martinez Brothers, Hot Since 82, Monolink (LIVE), Paula Temple, SHERELLE & Special Request, Valentina Luz, Coloray (LIVE), Black Cadmium and Bonobo delivering Amsterdam a festival event to blow all others out of the water. As the stars come out on the final night, Sunday nights programming will see Octo Octa, Benny Rodrigues, Dr. Rubinstein and Sedef Adasi bring things to an explosive close.

Sustainability & Responsibility

In 2022 DGTL hit an important milestone, becoming the world’s first circular dance festival. In 2023, DGTL’s sustainability team will work towards a new goal: positioning DGTL as a thriving festival that goes beyond circular. The festival will work with the Doughnut economy model in cooperation with the city of Amsterdam.

In recent years, DGTL has been working to get the festival’s emissions to 0 by using circular systems. Now they are taking the next step by asking visitors to take responsibility for the emissions from their travel movements. It comes down to collective accountability to ensure that the visitor’s last emissions are also reduced.

Everyone should always be and feel welcome at DGTL. The DGTL team has striven to be inclusive for every sex, race/ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, religious affiliation, age, physical or mental ability.

In 2022 DGTL started their journey exploring the concepts of safe spaces and festival ethics with its DGTL Safe(r) Project. For this year’s edition DGTL will continue on that journey.

2022 Recap: Top Soundtracks From Popular Netflix Shows | Add These To Your Playlist!

2022 has given us some amazing shows and soundtracks that have flown under the radar for too long. Picking up a song from an episode or trailer can lead to such wonderful discoveries of new artists and genres. This year, in particular, had some real gems (you can what was trending the 2022 wrap-up) from our favourite tv shows – Hounds of Love by Kate Bush – as they wonderfully pair the music together with the action on screen.

Here are some of the most memorable songs from TV series’ this year.

Never Have I Ever

However turbulent Devi Vishwakumar’s life may be, there’s no denying that she’s living every teenager’s dream. I mean, look at the close bond she shared with her two friends. And after that, her boyfriend & ex– Paxton Hall Yoshida (!!!). In fact, I don’t believe in soulmates anymore, academic rivals are more fun. If you know, you know.

Anyways, if you ever get your heart broken, play Don’t You Know I Want by Snowblood. Yeah, it is the same soundtrack that you heard when Paxton broke up with Devi. And, in case you need a pick-me-up, Right Here by Mr. J will suit you perfectly.

Dear White People

Dear White People is one of those shows that delicately tackle systemic racism. What compliments the beautifully written storyline are the intricately combined scores by composer Kris Bowers’.

Apart from plentiful amounts of Tchaikovsky, the show has just tracks from the Creator, J Dilla, Thelma Houston, BROCKHAMPTON, and many more. Music from these artists fuels the show as it deals with various themes of college life – love, s*x, break-ups, friendship, grief, etc.

Stranger Things

This list will be incomplete without the mention of Stranger Things: Season 4. Although the storyline of the show is set in the 1980s and its soundtracks belong to the same era as well, they still make for a fun jamming session in 2022.

I mean, if artists and bands like The Police, Duran Duran, Toto, and The Psychedelic Furs are involved in something, you know it’s going to be EPIC. And it was. Look at Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, and Metallica’s Master Of Puppets. These were literally the highlight of season 4.

Bridgerton

Love period drama shows? If yes, Bridgerton is definitely for you. If you’re finding ways to transport yourself to the regency period, listen to Bridgerton’s soundtracks and they will do the job.

On top of that, the show has the most amazing classical covers of modern pop songs sung by Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, and more. Whoever thought that could be possible? The credit for these superb orchestral arrangements goes to Kris Bowers. Apart from that, the show also has soundtracks from Bach, Beethoven, and Shostakovich.

Top Boy

Launched in 2011, and set in the fictional Summerhouse in London, Top Boy revolved around the lives of drug dealers Dushane and Sully and was one of the best shows of its time. A huge thanks to Drake for reviving the show for viewers in 2019.

What contributed to the show’s success were its exciting soundtracks that set the mood just right. Yes, I’m talking about songs like War Outside, Leave Me Alone, Interlude 2, and Nuttn 2 Prove.

Interview with DJ’s and Producers Manu P & Federico Rosa

We’re ready to welcome 2023 in the best way we know how, with music and new projects. Manu P. & Federico Rosa took some time to chat with us and told us more about what lies ahead for them in this exciting new year.

Check out the interview below!

Hey, 2023 is here and we’d like to know what are your hopes for this year regarding your music career?

Manu P: Hi, for this year I would like to increase the events regarding my brand The Cage and do a couple of dates in places I’ve never played before.

Federico Rosa: The hope is that my next releases do well on the charts and land support from international DJs. Aside from a full touring schedule of course…can’t have too many  gigs haha.

What are your top 3 resolutions for this new year?

Manu P:

– Being myself without negative influences that are always around the corner.
– Make at least 3 music releases.
– At least being able to talk to the founders of one of the biggest European festivals.

Federico Rosa: The first is probably the most important, MINDSET, never take your eyes off the target. Second is to release more great tracks with top labels and lastly, more live gigs as a guest.

Do you have any releases in the pipelines for the upcoming months?

Manu P: Yes, it will come out on my label The Cage Music, on Happy Techno and then we’ll see.

Federico Rosa: In Mid-January I have a release coming out on Material and then in February another with my buddy Manu P. on The Cage Music and we’ve got another one together in March on Happy Techno.

If you could pick any event, any stage, any place: where would you like to perform in 2023?

Manu P: ELROW

Federico Rosa: ELROW is my dream, and to tour internationally, abroad.

And following on from that, if the world was your oyster for selection, who would you like to collaborate with this new year?

Manu P.: Elrow again.

Federico Rosa: I’d love to collaborate with artists like Cloone, Michael Bibi and HUGEL.

Are there any new hobbies or activities you’d like to try in 2023?

Manu P.: Honestly the mtb is enough for me.

Federico Rosa: Not really, I enjoy training at the gym.

Are there any new skills or new gear that you’d like to implement to your studio in 2023?

Manu P.: New console with DJM-V10 and CDJ 3000.

Federico Rosa: I’d like to add the new DJM-V10 Pioneer in my DJ set up and in the studio. I’m considering adding something analog, which I feel can help with my creativity.

From a production standpoint, what would you say is the number one area you would like/need to invest time into in order to develop your production level?

Manu P.: I think I’ve never been at a great point for productions, so I’d invest in everything.

Federico Rosa: Considering there’s always something new to learn and improve on, it’s difficult to define the number of hours to dedicate to production on a daily basis. It’s all about practice, you could say 6 to 8 hours a day, to be then able to come up with a top track in a few hours.

Any new genres you’d like to explore next year?

Manu P.: No.

Federico Rosa: I’m looking to get closer to the Mininal Techno scene.

New sub-genres come and go into fashion every year, what are your predictions for 2023?

Manu P.: All sub-genres come from House and Techno. it’s just a different mix.

Federico Rosa: Tech House is becoming more commercial and will be played more by mainstream DJs. On the other hand, I think Mininal Tech will make headway within the underground scene.

Besides yourself, which artists or labels should people follow this year?

Manu P.: For artist, Marco Tropeano and for label, I love Trick Label

Federico Rosa: Artists like VLTRA and Marco Tropeano are definitely on the rise, and on the label side, I’d say Solid Grooves…they’re having continuous success at the moment.

Make a prediction for 2023 about the world or music and we’ll try and catch you this time next year to see if it came true!

Manu P.: I think there will be a return or increase of people listening to Techno music. I’m also seeing it in clubs that offer commercial music.

Federico Rosa: I hope to start playing more abroad this year!

Do you have a message for your followers for new year?

Manu P.: In Italian: LO SHOW CONTINUA !!!

Federico Rosa: Keep following me and you’ll be in for some great adventures!

James Hype teams up with D1ma to drop new remix of ‘Ferrari’

D1MA has taken Denmark by storm in 2022. In record speed he has become a mainstay at the top of the charts and gotten nominated for the Danish Grammy’s. By creating a perfect balance between rap and electronic music, D1MA has pushed the boundaries of not just his scene, but the Danish music industry as a whole.

Now D1MA is breaking fresh ground; with a remix of James Hype’s global smash “Ferrari”, where he raps in both Danish and English and gives a fresh spin on one of the biggest hits of the year.

D1MA explains: “It has been a crazy journey for me transitioning from an acknowledged underground rap artist to a nationally known electronic artist. It has segregated my target group in two different audiences, yet, this remix brings both those elements together. A combination of lyrical greatness, tight catchy delivery and an electronic stamp of approval from one of the hottest DJ’s in the world.”

James Hype has since his breakthrough in 2016 become arguably one of the world’s most popular DJs. He is known for his knack for combining genres and transforming them into dance hits. On “Ferrari”, James Hype samples the P.Diddy classic “I Need a Girl (Part 2)” to great effect, creating an infectious track that has transcended its genre.

James Hype on the release: “Ferrari has been a defining moment in my career, so having the biggest rappers around the world remix it is wild for me. D1MA has been killing it in Denmark mixing electronic music and rap, so hearing he wanted to remix the record was a no brainer for me”

Ferrari” is James Hype’s biggest hit, so far. Since its release it has achieved almost 650mil+ worldwide streams.

Benny Benassi teams up with rising star producer Astrality for a deep new track ‘Fade To Black’

Benny Benassi

Italian legend Benny Benassi teams up with rising star producer Astrality for a deep new track this month, capping off his year of teaming up with amazing vocalists like Pitbull and Anabel Englund.

A deep melodic techno vibe is the order of the day, with echoes of soulful vocals on the chorus soon brushing against the throbbing bassline arpeggio and shimmering hi-hats.

The blissful crooning spreads across the soundscape as the arrangement strips back, before slamming back in with that meaty groove and the main vocal refrain.

Gentle synth plucks pad out this spacious production and sorrowful synth chords placed far in the distance help elevate the main breakdown to a truly glorious place. A distorted, uncluttered trance riff rises from the breakdown elegantly, providing a crescendo that is powerful yet subtle—which is how you could sum this classy track up in its entirety.

Benny Benassi‘s name has once again been on everyone’s lips—and ears—this year, after the massive rework together with David Guetta of his breakout electro house hit ‘Satisfaction‘ made waves once again with over 20 million streams to date.

His own recent single ‘One More Night‘ with Bryn Christopher has been another club smash, rounding off a super productive and popular year for him. Next up, he’ll continue his busy touring schedule by jetting off to the US for a string of dates.

Reinier Zonneveld and HI-LO kick off 2023 with two banging new tracks ‘Samsara’ & ‘Nirvana’

Superstar DJs and producers Reinier Zonneveld and HI-LO continue their superb collaborative work with another pair of bangers on Filth on Acid.

Samsara‘, out now via Filth On Acid, comes just in time to ring in the new year with it’s fat-bottomed bassline bound to heat up dancefloors worldwide. After another goldmine of a studio session, Reinier and HI-LO will drop ‘Nirvana‘ on January 6th.

This pair has served up plenty of winners already such as ‘Saw Of Olympus‘, ‘Balearic Mornings‘, ‘Existencia‘, and ‘String Theory‘.

Now once again they bring all their experiences to the studio after having had a huge 2022 as solo artists with plenty of big tunes and headline shows all over the world.

Nirvana‘ and ‘Samsara‘ are two cuts that encourage you to lose your mind on the dance floor while dreaming amongst the melodies. ‘Samsara‘ has machine gun synths that fire like lasers across the uplifting trance chords. The drums are so heavy they will rattle the walls and it all makes for a powerful tune. ‘Nirvana‘ has a real sense of techno funk with intoxicating Middle Eastern vocal sounds over hard edged drums and with bright synth work.

This is a brilliant way to kick off 2023 in top techno fashion.

Hotboxx has prepared a powerful DJ mix of his Top 10 best songs of the year

We bid farewell to 2022 in the best way we know how: with music. This time, DJ and producer, Hotboxx has prepared a powerful mix of his Top 10 best songs of the year.

Press play and get ready to welcome 2023!

1. Hotboxx, The Artist Never Die, London X- Too Sexy (Original Mix)

I picked this track, because it was the last track we made for the Vogue EP and was something I really did not think would come out like this, based on how we started. It ended up having this sexy, Melodic Deep House vibe, really something that, to me, sounds like a “Miami” sound and being that the 3 of us who produced it are from Miami, I felt like it really tied the whole EP together, one of my favorite releases this year. This EP was also the first of my productions to Top the Beatport Releases charts for more than a month, was very happy with the feedback we got with this one.

2. Toman – Una Y Nada (Original Mix)

This was my summer anthem. I played it every chance I could, a crowd pleaser always. Really a track that can be played at any time; groovy and relaxed enough to be early in a set but also good enough to be peak time. Special track by a phenomenal producer/DJ, Toman, someone I’ve really liked and wanted to work with for a while. Being of Latino descent the vocals tied the whole track together for me.

3. Hotboxx, The Artist Never Die, London X- Keep Movin’ (Original Mix)

Another release off the Vogue EP that I released on House of Huemans with my brothers Jodi (The Artist Never Die) and Nick (London X). This was my favorite track on the EP that we released. Again, also special because not only did this track chart very well individually, cracking the Top 20, the release was number 1 for multiple weeks on Beatport. This was definitely a special track and was another 2022 anthem for me and had some amazing feedback from fans and other DJs.

4. Hotboxx, Flynn Nolan- Offended (Pezlo MD Remix)

This was a special track for me this year because not only was it off the EP that myself and another one of my best friends produced together (Flynn Nolan). But when we took it to Rakoon Studios here in Miami to mix and master, the engineer there Pezlo MD, who is a close friend, loved it so much he asked to remix it and I couldn’t think of someone better to do it.

He did a remarkable job chopping all the original stems and creating this masterpiece. I was very happy to finally collaborate with Pezlo as we have been going to him and Rakoon for quite a while now. It was also my 2nd release with House of Huemans, a fantastic label located here in Miami, since they were local, I was able to become very close friends with the label heads and will be working with them quite a bit moving forward into 2023!

5. Hotboxx- Morning Wood (Original Mix)

This was an anthem for almost everyone I would play it for. Was a little outside what I normally make but the vocals really tied it together. Always a crowd favorite when I would play it at any of my shows, simple track but definitely something to get people dancing and moving. So, it was one of my favorite releases for 2022 and also something that I produced.

6. Mochakk- Sombrero Sam (Original Mix)

This is just a phenomenal track from beginning to end. Mochakk has been on fire this year and he ended the year with this incredible banger. This was my anthem for Art Basel here, came out just a few weeks ago. The day the EP came out I bought it and this track just stood out from the Latin flavor of the percussion to the jazzy smooth vibe that the sax creates, just a really well-made song. I have been playing it at every event since Art Basel. Definitely my track of the Month for December, great way to end the year.

7. Hotboxx, Carlos Diaz- ID (Original Mix, Unreleased)

This was one of the latest tracks I produced along with my good friend Carlos Diaz. We just recently finished it and have yet to release it but I wanted to put it on here because I really love the direction it is going in and it really is a track that I think, moving forward, will help dictate my style. Expect more music like this, moving forward, from Hotboxx in 2023, which is the main reason why I really wanted to include this one.
Aside from the fact that the vocals are a very Miami type of vocals and really do feel this track is very well suited for my hometown.

8. Michael Bibi- La Murga (Michael’s Midnight Mix)

This track was one that grew on me. Always loved Michael Bibi’s production and you can definitely hear his signature sound on this one. Also really like this track because of the Hector Lavoe sample, growing up the original salsa track was a staple at any family party so really cool to be able to play this and hear this out when I am at a club and get that Tech House feel with a classic Salsa banger. One of my favorites of 2022

9. Hotboxx- Hialeah (Original Mix)

So, this track was a special track to me. Not only did I produce it but the vocals, are shouting out my hometown, Hialeah which is a suburb here in Miami, composed of a huge Latino/Cuban population. I really love the Afro style and again, this is a style I think you’ll hear a lot more of in my production moving forward.

10. Lucas Bahr, Abbud- Pptao (Original Mix)

This track is just a club heater. Something that will really get the party going, a track I love to play at peak hours when I am spinning. Just very well produced from beginning to end and released on one of my favorite labels, Nervous Records. This track was definitely a favorite for me and really caps off the mix in a nice way.

Listen to the mix below and enjoy!
