YokoO provides Rebellion’s first release of 2021 with ‘Jivanmuktih’

Crosstown Rebels’ offshoot label Rebellion inaugurates their 2021 release schedule next January with a four-track EP from YokoO. Titled Jivanmuktih, the release includes a collaboration with Atlanta-based artist Bobi Stevkovski.

Speaking on the release, YokoO described how the current circumstances helped his creativity, stating:

Following months of stillness away from touring life’s noise, disconnected from technologies and attuned to a profound state of presence in nature, I returned to my studio inspired and determined to create music that is different to what I had been known for. This EP showcases the continuation of my exploration through sounds as I transition further into my creative Self.

Higher State leads proceedings and showcases the French-native at his best. Shimmering synths reside atop a punchy four-four bassline, whilst whispering hats echo softly in the background.

The EP’s collaborative effort comes next in the form of Spiritus Sexualem, which sees Bobi Stevkovski appear alongside. Stripped-back and spacious, reverberating vocals create an ethereal feel as minimal kick-hat combos round off the club-ready cut.

Finis comes next, a progressive dancefloor number that features starry, emotion-fuelled chords before the title track brings things to a close with dubby kicks, soft pads and soothing vocal tones.

YokoO Jivanmuktih EP

France’s YokoO is an esteemed talent in the melodic techno scene. Releases on Lee Burridge‘s iconic All Day I Dream imprint, as well as M.A.N.D.Y.‘s Get Physical, have cemented his reputation for all things deep, emotive and dreamy, whilst performances across all five continents have highlighted him as a truly global artist.

Atlanta-based Bobi Stevkovski continues to establish his presence in the electronic music realm. A good friend of the French artist, Bobi is the founder of both Zemya Fest and Project B.

The album will be available on January 29th, 2021.

Black Coffee and Maxine Ashley join forces on new single ‘You Need Me’

Black Coffee

Following on from his huge Pharell Williams and Jozzy collaboration, superstar DJ and producer Black Coffee returns with new single ‘You Need Me’ featuring Maxine Ashley, out 29th December.

Underpinned by delicate piano chords, gospel-evoking backing vocals and Maxine‘s impassioned tones, ‘You Need Me‘ finds the sweet spot between raw emotion and dancefloor energy.

It marks the fifth single release from Black Coffee‘s highly anticipated forthcoming album, with further collaborative singles including UK singer-songwriter Celeste, chart-topper Sabrina Claudio and R&B icon Usher. Titled Subconsciously, the eagerly anticipated twelve-track LP is set for release on February 5th, with pre-orders now available here.

Establishing himself as one of the biggest stars of the global electronic music scene, Black Coffee‘s diverse production style has gained him recognition across the world. His penchant for production and vast musical knowledge jump-started the South African DJ scene and brought his cultural perspective to clubs and festivals around the globe. After releasing his multi-award winning album Pieces Of Me, his profile continued to grow as he found himself collaborating with the likes of Drake, Usher, Alicia Keys, and David Guetta. Over the years, Black Coffee has also asserted himself as a proud philanthropist and businessman, recently sharing his Africa Is Not A Jungle initiative on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

Just 25 years of age, Bronx-born artist and model Maxine Ashley already boasts a music career that’s over a decade long. After being discovered on YouTube at the young age of 13, she found a fan in Pharrell Williams, who signed her up to his record company before she decided to take her career into her own hands and become independent. She has since released a steady stream of her own music, incorporating aspects of the R&B she grew up listening to with a grab bag of genre-defying sounds and techniques, as well as writing songs for the likes of Ariana Grande and Alex Gaudino.

The fifth star-studded collaborative single in a row, ‘You Need Me‘ sets Black Coffee up perfectly for the release of Subconsciously.

CamelPhat have unveiled the official video for their latest anthem ‘Easier’

CamelPhat

Multi-platinum, Grammy nominated DJ and producer duo CamelPhat have unveiled the official video for their latest anthem ‘Easier’.

Directed by Tom Haines, the video portrays a series of dancers performing alone in an empty London nightclub FOLD. The visual is a tribute to struggling night clubs which are still closed due to the pandemic.

CamelPhat have been throwing their support behind nightlife & hospitality industries affected by Covid 19, petitioning for campaigns such as Let Us Dance and recently recording their BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix at an empty Printworks.

The director Tom Haines says : There’s nothing more frustrating than knowing all that energy and potential we collectively enjoy is hanging in the balance, mothballed while it waits to be reanimated.

That’s what I wanted to conjure with the video for Easier, the idea that it’s just within reach, that the rich history of clubbing and dance music and all that brings with it, is in the ether. I hope that it’s by parts joyous, ecstatic and also emotional as a video.

Shooting it was just a dream, having been holed up at home so much, to then be in a club environment with a creative team was truly amazing and hearing the song blasting on a proper system, watching Dominant our dancer do their thing, genuinely gave me goosebumps.

W&W

A mere six days after rousing a crowd of ten thousand fans through the sold-out Rave Culture Thailand event they spent fifteen days in quarantine for, W&W keep building momentum in signature fashion.

With ‘Gold’, the world-renowned Dutchmen not only deliver the follow-up to ‘Rave Love’, but also launch the hotly anticipated music video sequel, teasing all kinds of special – and upcoming – Rave Culture developments in the process.

Following on the powerful ‘Rave Love‘ and the first chapter of their brand-new music video series ‘Gold‘ can be considered quite a find in today’s dance music landscape. Sporting an infectious mixture of catchy vocal cuts, rich melodies and a stomping kick-bass combo, this track is the kind of dance music treasure everyone would like a piece of.

Being on stage and seeing all those happy faces in the crowd made us realize that we stand together and that rave is life. ‘Gold’ is a track that we have been working on for quite some time and we couldn’t be any more proud of the result. Great to end 2020 with this one!

Ferry Corsten drafts in fans from around the world to work with him on ‘Free’

Ferry Corsten

Ferry Corsten started his UNITY project in 2018, with a view of hardening the sense of community praised in the trance world. At the peak of the pandemic, when millions of people were in lockdown, Ferry had an urge to foster a sense of togetherness with his fanbase and find a new way to connect with them through his music.

So, a decision was made to open up his UNITY platform and give fans a chance to collaborate with him on a new single, with all proceeds going to World Health Organisation (WHO).

After Ferry provided the initial melody in May, fans were asked to submit their own ideas and use their musical creativity to contribute towards the release. The resulting influx of submissions saw Ferry selecting over 20 talented and emerging artists from around the globe to work alongside him on his final release of 2020, ‘Free‘.

To date the UNITY project has paired Ferry with a host of high-profile artists that include Paul Oakenfold, Ilan Bluestone, Gabriel & Dresden and Trance Wax, but 2020 brought an opportunity to explore something different, something not just for the fans but with the fans.

Following extensive listening sessions of the huge number of submissions he received for the project, Ferry finally whittled it down to 22 collaborators. An assortment of hugely gifted producers, singers, songwriters and engineers from countries that include France, UAE, Italy, Sweden, China, USA, Mexico, Singapore and Australia were selected by Ferry to join him on his first ever fan-collaboration musical release.

Free‘ begins in fitting fashion, with different voices repeating the word unity in different languages. The skills of each participant are on show in abundance through the creativity and individuality that can be heard throughout each element, as Ferry utilises his years of studio experience to craft a finished track from its constituent parts that is simultaneously cohesive, poignant and reflective of the UNITY message.

On working on the project and his thoughts on the final result, Ferry notes:

This project is the very core of what I set about to create with UNITY. To bring musical creators together to create something special and use that unison for something good. Whilst I did start UNITY with my fellow DJs in mind, I always wanted to explore the possibility of doing more fan involved projects as the foundations of the platform grew.

Never in my wildest dreams could I have envisaged a year like what 2020 has been, but I’m happy that something so powerful, explorative and mainly fun came out of this crazy year. Working with all of the participants involved in this release has been such a joyful event for me. I’d like to thank them, and all those that submitted parts for consideration, for this release. I love you guys!

The accompanying music video incorporates footage of the participants performing a segment of their part on the song and showing the power of fulfilment and unity that music has the ability to offer.

As the year draws to a close and we all look to a more positive New Year ahead, ‘Free‘ reflects the collective hope held by all and is a shining example of the unwavering power of music to connect people from around the world and give them an outlet for expression.
