Plagiarism among the popular musicians

Plagiarism Among Popular Musicians

Human beings have been in existence for thousands of years, over time we have managed to investigate and crack open anything and everything possible. Something could have been “original” when we first started being. But now, originality is merely a concept, authenticity is what we mean.

Nothing is original, everything is influenced by one thing or the other be it art, design, music, writing, whatnot.

Even a thought you get is influenced by an activity or a situation or something that has happened. Can you tag that thought as ‘original’? Try to imagine a new color, you cannot! You will have to take existing colors and mix them up or change their characteristics if you want to come up with a new color. But, you cannot say that the color is original because it is not. It is authentic, though. However, you cannot pass this as plagiarism because you have merely taken help from something that already exists to work from.

Even great minds and creative artists seem to have problems coming up with authentic materials. Who is to say students don’t? If you ask us, students have it pretty hard. Students have tons of assignments, papers to write and have to worry about plagiarism. Plagiarism checker is a student’s best friend (apart from Google) while writing a paper. Looking for one best free plagiarism checker can be a bit of a task in the beginning.

But, after you get hold of one, you latch onto it. Handing in an assignment without doing a plagiarism check is a nightmare! You work on your essay, you proofread it, and you scan you essay for plagiarism; that is how it goes.

Music is no different. Is it even possible to make original music anymore? Or was it ever possible? Plagiarism in music and plagiarized songs are no news, it occurs more often than we realize. We have been hearing and promoting plagiarized songs forever. While some songs can sound similar and that can be pure coincidence, but some have definitely been influenced by another song(s). Artists often take inspirations from other artists and often their work ends up similar to the work they were inspired from.

Music is creativity, and creativity itself isn’t something that boasts originality. Creativity is something that is influenced by another thing. Many many well-known musicians we all love and adore have been accused of plagiarism and slapped with lawsuits over plagiarized songs and scandals songs over time.

Who hasn’t heard of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”? You’ve probably started humming this song now that you’re reminded of it. Known as the greatest bands of all time and a pioneer in rock music, Led Zeppelin was popularly branded as rip-offs as their music had allegedly been taken from artists like Taurus, Jake Holmes, Bert Jansch, and many more. Along with their popularity, Zeppelin faced many lawsuits for plagiarism in music. Later on, from the late 70s to the early 2000s, many artists went on to remix and sample Zeppelin‘s beats from “When the Levee Breaks”.

You surely remember Robin Thicke and Pharell Williams’ “Blurred Lines” that made striped pants oh so popular. That song was a massive hit in 2013. Many noticed that the song sounded a lot like Marvin Gayes’ “Got to Give it Up”. Gayes’ family had filed a lawsuit against Thicke and Williams. They lost the lawsuit and had to pay approximately $7.4 million to the Gayes.

Have you heard Childish Gambino’s popular and impactful song “This Is America”? This is America went viral in May 2018. The song portrays the sad reality of inequality present in America. Gambino was accused of copying “American Pharoah” by Jase Harley.
Talking of scandals songs and artists accused of plagiarism, Ed Sheeran has made it to the list. Yes, we are equally scandalized. Sheeran was accused of plagiarizing his 2016 hit “Photograph”. Matt Cardle filed a lawsuit against Sheeran on the grounds that “Photograph” sounded similar to his song “Amazing”. The lawsuit was settled with Ed Sheeran paying $20 million.

Nothing is original, really. Even this article isn’t an original piece, it’s authentic. There are many articles similar to this particular one on the internet. If you read them all, you will see that most of them are similar to each other, but not the same. Who is to say one article did not influence and inspire the other? It is always a good idea to be influenced by something and takes inspiration, however, if you are using somebody else’s work, you have to give credit to that person. Otherwise, it is stealing.

People are comfortable with what is familiar to them. Over time, most movies and songs that have been hit are either remakes, sequels, or derived from existing materials. Original content has seldom been preferred by most audiences. Might that be the reason why plagiarism in music is rampant?

UNTOLD and NEVERSEA festivals postponed to 2021

It seems like the whole summer of 2020 is being postponed to 2021 and so are our favorite Romanian music festivals, UNTOLD and NEVERSEA.

Since the organization of events with more than 1000 people is forbidden until August 31st 2020 by the Romanian government, the organizers are forced to postpone these majestic music festivals to 2021.

You can read the full statement below!

NEVERSEA 2020 postponed to 2021

“Over the last 5 years, we lived together, every year, the most intensive experiences and we wrote, year after year, the most beautiful chapters and journeys of the UNTOLD and NEVERSEA stories. We thank each one of you! Together we became a community of millions of friends, sharing the same values: the music that unites us, dancing until sunrise, being proud to promote and discover Romania, the good actions that we made together, every year.

At the end of 2019, we started the journey of UNTOLD and NEVERSEA 2020 editions full of confidence, with exceptional plans and ideas, with many artists ready to come for the first time in Romania, with new projects and campaigns. Without any doubt, 2020 was looking great. 2020 was a year meant to exceed, once again, all the expectations!

Unfortunately, the first part of 2020 came with a challenge for which… the entire planet was unprepared. We were put in front of a situation that challenged us all to be patient, understanding, and careful with the people around us. COVID-19 pandemic has made us watch and feel with fear this year, because the last months were very uncertain for everyone.

We chose to stay optimistic. We chose to fight for our chance to meet again with our friends this summer as long as there was the smallest hope for this wish to be possible. At the same time, we assured you every time that we are in permanent contact with all the authorities from Romania since March, to understand the evolution of COVID-19, and we asked them to let us know as soon as possible whether or not we are allowed to organize our festivals this year, seeing that in most countries affected by the pandemic in Europe, the authorities have taken in advance the decision to cancel the events this summer or this entire year. We showed our support in the anti-COVID-19 fight through our campaign UNITED, we supported all the measures and guided the fans of our festivals to respect all the decisions of Romanian authorities.

In this uncertain times, we wanted to make sure that we will take the best measures, putting first the safety and health of our fans, partners, artists and thousands of people who are involved with so much passion in organizing UNTOLD and NEVERSEA.

Unfortunately, time has passed in our detriment, the pandemic covering a much longer time than even the most optimistic of us hoped, and as close as we got to July and August, in all of this uncertainty, the reality was making sure that it will bring us one of the saddest scenarios. At the same time, we have tried to better understand your concerns, the concerns of the thousands of fans who already bought tickets and passes to our festivals.

While waiting for our authorities to announce the future of the events in Romania, we considered it our responsibility to give you the possibility to change your 2020 tickets and passes into ANYTIME tickets and passes, that guarantee you the access to one of the next 3 editions of our festivals, at your choice.

We felt like a big family when we saw how understanding and supportive you received our news, with over 95% of our fans who changed their tickets and passes into ANYTIME version. You have shown us, once again, that you are the most beautiful crowd a festival could wish for. You have shown us that we are not alone, that you trust us and you are like us – you can’t wait to meet again, as soon as possible. And we thank you for your patience and understanding!

In the context of the uncertainty that exists in the events industry in Romania, the restricted measures under which people can work together, but also the fact that the Minister of Culture has sent to the Romanian Parliament a bill that bans the organization of events with more than 1000 people until August 31st 2020, we think is necessary for us to take a final decision, to bring clarity to all those waiting for our festival this summer.
With our hearts broken, but with the certainty that we are making the best decision for everyone’s health and safety, we have to announce that we will postpone this year’s edition of UNTOLD NEVERSEA for 2021.

It is an extremely difficult situation for all of us, we are all sad, but, as we always did, we must put everyone’s safety first, so that we can all meet again, healthy and stronger in 2021. At the same time, given that measures, such as social distancing, limited number to a few hundreds of people who can gather together, could be maintained all the summer, it becomes impossible to give you the festival experience that we know you are waiting for and you deserve.

The festival is about the joy of being with your friends, about the joy of being in a crowd with other beautiful people, and any restrictions in this regard wouldn’t allow us to fully live and enjoy this experience. We will continue to keep in touch with the authorities, so that we can return to you with the new dates of our event, in 2021, in the best and safest conditions.

We are extremely grateful to those over 95% of fans who changed their tickets and passes for this year’s editions to ANYTIME version. We thank you for all this trust and we promise you that you will have the most beautiful experiences at any of the next 3 editions you will decide to join. All those who haven’t chosen the ANYTIME version will be able to choose, within 30 days from the announcement of the 2021 edition, to transfer their ticket or pass to 2021 edition or to receive a voucher that can be used to buy other products of the organizers.

Those who will be unable to participate at the 2021 edition will be able to choose the refund, between October 1st – December 31st 2021. Also, all those who need support to reschedule their accommodation in Cluj-Napoca or Constanța or other situations appeared as a result of this decision can contact us to offer them all the support we have.

At the same time, we have to stay united, we have to be understanding with each other, because, beyond this sadness that we won’t meet this year, it is our duty to ensure that also the thousands of suppliers that work with us will pass through this hard times and we will be able to rely on the same well-trained, passionate, creative people without whom we couldn’t organize our festivals every year.

We will continue to stay together, to be the same beautiful community and we will continue to bring you joy in the next period with new initiatives, to ensure that the time left until we will meet again will pass much easier.

UNTOLD magic keeps us together!”

Armin van Buuren helps fans wind down with new album: ‘RELAXED’

Armin van Buuren

It all started on May 8. On this fateful day, Armin van Buuren turned to Instagram with a single announcement. In his message, the five-time #1 DJ in the world spoke of a new album on the horizon, a collection of paradisiacal reworks of some of his biggest classics, designed to help listeners catch their breath and forget all about the worries of the world.

Trinix‘s wondrous rendition of ‘Make It Right‘ was the first of those reworks to charm its way into their hearts, and now, three weeks later, the full album has arrived: ‘RELAXED‘.

An opportunity for listeners to wind down and float over the dreamy tones and downtempo beats, Armin van Buuren‘s ‘RELAXED’ album offers a change in pace and momentary break from the rush of everyday life.

Filled with everything from previously released acoustic mixes to brand-new chill-out versions of iconic Armin van Buuren tracks from the likes of Eelke Kleijn, Just Her, Marsh, Trinix and more, this two-sided album is that break in the clouds fans may have been searching for all along.

Armin van Buuren Relaxed

Here’s what Armin van Buuren had to say about RELAXED:

There are a lot of things going on in the world right now that can be hard to deal with. The stress can get to you and your mind could keep reeling from all the worries as you’re trying to cope with it all. I feel that it’s important to be able to briefly step away from it all, to leave your worries behind for a moment and take a much-needed breather.

That’s what I hope to achieve with my ‘RELAXED’ album. I gathered acoustic versions of some of my own tracks and many of my fellow producers to create new chill-minded versions that could alleviate the stress a bit. I hope that everyone listening to this album will be able to put things in perspective and draw strength from it so they can find their way.

Bunny Tiger releases remix package of Sharam Jey & Tapesh’s “Over Me”

Sharam Jey
via Sharam Jey

Next up on Sharam Jey‘s Bunny Tiger label is another series of 2020 remix updates of one of his classics, ‘Over Me’ alongside Tapesh. DJ Glen, Bob Musella, Visage, Charles Ramirez and J Nandez all feature.

The original mix is also included and has big bouncy drums and firing funk samples that get the club going, and show why it spent 3 weeks at No 1 in Indie Dance/Nu Disco chart on Beatport! The DJ Glen remix reworks the tune into a brooding monster with deriving bass and big kicks.

Bob Musella then layers in some big diva vocals and lets the samples sing, and Visage reworks it into a more wonky and stripped back tech house tune. Last of all, Charles Ramirez and J.Nandez go for a big acid remix to blow the roof off any club.

This is another fine package that brings new life to this tune.

Oliver Heldens to host a live stream performance at The Royal Concertgebouw

Oliver Heldens

As COVID-19 wreaks havoc on the international music industry, artists like the global superstar DJ and producer Oliver Heldens have moved swiftly to provide unique virtual experiences for fans.

In his next move to boost morale and raise money for charity, Oliver Heldens will perform at ‘The Royal Concertgebouw‘, Amsterdam on June 5th as the headlining artist for the American Digital Mirage Festival by Proximity.

The Royal Concertgebouw is considered one of the most important concert halls in the world because of its unparalleled acoustics and wide range of high-level programming. The concert hall has a great tradition for legendary concerts by musical greats in classical, jazz and now electronic music. In a time where cultural institutions remain abandoned, Heldens‘ performance aims to showcase the Concertgebouw on a world stage with an hour-long DJ show filled with electronic classics and new, unreleased music.

I look forward to playing at such a legendary venue in the Netherlands and around the world’, says Oliver Heldens.

‘A big thanks to the team at The Royal Concertgebouw for having me and to Digital Mirage for providing an important platform for electronic music while the world remains indoors. It’s a difficult time in our industry, for artists and for venues. It’s devastating that so many upcoming shows have been cancelled but it’s comforting to know we are staying at home for the greater good. I hope this stream can be enjoyed by as many as two sides of music collide. The venue is beautiful and will make for a unique experience that can still be enjoyed from home!

All donations raised during the Digital Mirage Festival including Oliver‘s show will go directly to Plus 1, a non-profit organization that helps musicians in the music industry.

Disco Halal launch ‘2×2’ series with tracks from Kino Todo and Marko East

Moscoman

Berlin-based record label Disco Halal have launched the all-new ‘Disco Halal: 2×2’ series, kicking off with music from Kino Todo and Marko East.

A monthly release series featuring two tracks by two different artists, with each artist then remixing the other, the first issue of ‘Disco Halal: 2×2‘ kicks off with the assertive kick drums of ‘Yasmin‘ by Kino Todo, a progressive house cut fill underpinned by complex percussion.

Marko East then steps up with a cosmic-tinged remix of the same track, ahead of his own track ‘5 DB Higher Than U‘, an acid techno bomb with a squelching 303 bassline. Kino Todo then rounds things off with his remix of the track, a more refined take on the original that loses none of its intensity.

Different tracks and artists can be blended to create more than the sum of their parts,” Moscoman explains. “I wanted to extend this concept to Disco Halal’s releases, allow emerging talent to mix with bigger names….each artist able to provide either their own canvas or paint on someone else’s. Two By Two.”

Disco Halal: 2×2′ series

Tel Aviv DJ and producer Kino Todo is a young artist influenced by global sounds, exploring different rhythms to create something fresh and exciting. His first release ‘Gidafi Na‘ has already made a big impact. Also from Tel Aviv, Marko East has built a reputation around his unique sound signature. His productions are a mix of modern beats and a variety of cross-genre influences, representing his deep passion for music of all kinds.

Encompassing elements of downtempo, new-wave and alternative pop, stitched together with a leftfield dancefloor throb, the Disco Halal back-catalogue, filled with efforts from the likes of Simple Symmetry, The Organism and Moscoman himself, has seen the imprint rapidly emerging from the once-overlooked nightlife and club scene of Tel Aviv into the worldwide spectrum.

The innovative ‘Disco Halal: 2×2‘ series kicks off with four stellar club cuts.

Joseph Capriati announces new artist album ‘Metamorfosi’

Metamorfosi is the story of Joseph Capriati’s artistic evolution, the result of both personal and musical development, maturing influences and meeting his heroes – an emotional message which needs to be felt.

From the album’s opening moments, the slow-release, acid euphoria of ‘Improvvisazione‘ and the stunning synth melodies of ‘Beautiful Morning‘, Capriati‘s cards are on the table. The three years since his last album have seen Joseph embark on a journey of self-reflection, broadening his creative spectrum and incorporating more genres and moods.

“It is definitely not a pure dancefloor record“, he says of Metamorfosi, “it is diverse, which for me is the spirit of an album. I really hope that people will get the message.”

By releasing the album on his own label Redimension, any barriers that previously lay between Capriati and his most authentic self are gone. This is at once the sound of the Neapolitan techno artist today, as an eleven-year-old discovering House music, as a world-touring DJ and as Joseph at home.

Joseph Capriati Metamorfosi

As the rousing keys and pulse of ‘Beautiful Morning‘ fade out, in comes one of the record’s main themes, collaboration. ‘Spirit Brothers‘, made with the legendary Louie Vega, is a modern spin on classic House.

The track with Louie Vega is very symbolic for me personally, as it was him and Masters At Work who have inspired me since the beginning.” Through their storied six-hour, vinyl-only sets together at Cielo, New York, Joseph and Louie have fostered a special relationship which translates onto this infectious track.

Love Changed Me‘, a joint work with Byron Stingily and Eric Kupper, two more true icons of House music, appears later in the record and also fulfills Joseph‘s lifelong wish to work with timeless producers and vocalists.

With the supreme drum programming and rolling groove of ‘Anything Is Possible‘, the balance shifts to a more muscular sound with a few elements revolving in perfect harmony. ‘Dust‘ restores the uplifting tone, conjuring images of Joseph entrancing a crowd at sunrise – fitting given the track was made after Joseph‘s first experience at Burning Man in 2018 and represents all the emotions he lived in those desert days. ‘Psychic Journey‘ and ‘Goa‘ share this cosmic feeling but pack it with extra weight for the peak-time hours.

It would not be a Joseph Capriati full-length without an ode to his beloved hometown of Napoli, a city with a rich history in dance music culture and beyond. ‘New Horizons‘ with James Senese represents the essence of Napoli. The single contains a techno version which stands for Joseph and the original version which stands for James Senese, a pioneer of Neapolitan blues and funk for more than half a century.

In Joseph‘s words, “this track has a priceless value and for me has a great meaning. We didn’t want to make a pure techno track, because it would turn out to be trivial together with James Senese’s saxophone and his voice. The idea was to make an electronic track, and it turned out to be quite trip-hop, very 90s, in a similar style to Massive Attack or Tricky.

New Horizons‘ sets up the cinematic, IDM-influenced title-track ‘Metamorfosi‘. If any one track on this LP could alone characterize its concept, this would be it. ‘Metamorfosi‘ could stun a packed dancefloor at the right moment but that is not its reason to be. It is purely and simply an expression of Joseph‘s musical vision, a snapshot of countless years buying, playing and living music.

With an album tour and special, Capriati vinyl sets coming up soon, the message of Metamorfosi will come to life in a different way. The message is now with you.

Gorgon City & Yousef team up for a brand new track ‘Free Myself’ feat. Evabee

In a plan to bring artists together during this unconventional time, BBC Radio 1’s Danny Howard launched the ‘Lockdown Link Up’ on his Friday night show.

Pairing up sixteen artists & producers at random, he landed on two of dance music’s most renowned in their own right, Yousef and Gorgon City; becoming the very first of eight pairs called upon by Danny Howard to collaborate on a production during their time in isolation. The trio now officially present, ‘Free Myself ft. EVABEE‘ out on Yousef‘s Circus Recordings label.

With their unconventional link-up now set for release, the summer anthem features BBC Introducing championed, singer-songwriter, EVABEE. Written especially for this record, the lyrics focus on the constant struggle people face to find their true self when there’s many distractions that get in the way. The words ‘never be louder than my sound’ are an ode to the strength and power that music holds, to break down the walls and reach the soul.

Quarantine has been an interesting and reflective time for me – we don’t have the parties or raves to go and get lost in, so we’ve had to look deep into ourselves and rely on our values for meaning and purpose. This record was one of the many products to come out of that reflection for meEVABEE

The result is a very emotive dance track, that see’s each artists production expertise shines through with a blend of drawn out strings harmonies and atmospheric synth tones providing a swelling pulse for the shimmering vocal lines from EVABEE. The grooves come fat and chunky, with a rugged 4/4 rolling kick and stacks of 909’s and bright percussion all bouncing over a fiercely large bassline, moogy and rich, the blend of tones in the low-end deal serious damage and inject uncontrollable movement.

Free Myself‘, has already received support across BBC Radio 1 with Danny Howard, Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Ariella Free all spinning the track weekly since its launch. It stands as a celebration of music’s medicinal capabilities and the positive impact it can have.

Yousef and Gorgon City‘s ‘Free Myself‘ feat. Eva Bee is out now on Circus Recordings.

EXIT Festival’s 20th Anniversary edition will take place from 13th to 16th August 2020

exit

After the epidemic ended in most of the countries in the Balkans, the Serbian Prime Minister asked EXIT Festival not to cancel, but instead, take place later in the summer.

This news shook the music industry last week and provided much-needed hope for the return of live music events. Now, after additional consultations, the new dates for the 20th birthday of the world-renowned Serbian festival are finally set from 13 to 16 August this year!

The EXIT team announced that the whole event will be organised in close cooperation with the National Health Coordination team and they will follow all health and government guidelines. As one of the measures, the festival capacity will be reduced and some of the moats and trenches that host around 40 stages and zones will remain closed. However, the most breathtaking spots at the 18th century Petrovaradin fortress that made EXIT legendary such are the colossal Dance Arena, the festival’s Main Stage, and iconic No Sleep among others, will shine once more this August!

The ticket sales will restart on June 1st with all details including refund options as well as the updated lineup to follow in the coming days. The festival team has confirmed that a vast majority of artists they spoke to are eager to perform this summer. Many of them have been away from the audience for several months in isolation, and they see EXIT as an opportunity to reconnect with their fans this summer.

At EXIT, they add that this great news also holds a great responsibility since the Serbian festival wants to give tribute to their postponed peers on the global event scene who will be invited to join the festival in August:

We got so many messages and emails of support from other festival promoters, agents and artists who see EXIT as a sign of a soon revival for the whole event industry. But even more important, a sign for the whole society that the worst is behind is”, says the EXIT’s founder Dušan Kovačević and adds an interesting reference from the festival’s revolutionary history:

“Exactly 20 years ago, after a decade of isolation and civil wars in the ’90s, we found an exit and embraced it as our name. Now, it’s time to globally exit from this pandemic”, says Kovačević.

Exit

Serbia, like many other European countries, will reopen its borders with no limits or PCR tests needed, so people from all around Europe will be able to come to the festival. Festival organizers underline that if by any chance there is an epidemic outbreak in some countries in August, visitors coming from that particular country will have to go through the PCR test which will be free or very low priced. However, the Serbian Prime Minister said that their health experts expect the epidemic situation will be under control in all of Europe by then.

Born out of youth movement for peace and freedom in Serbia and Balkans, EXIT social work is as equally important as the festival itself with thousands of humanitarian and social projects realized in the last two decades. On its 20th anniversary, EXIT also continues with plans to launch its biggest environmental project to this date dubbed the LIFESTREAM. The project’s main concept is to stream shows from the festival in a new innovative way by playing additional footage with quotes and information about the unprecedented environmental crisis and other rising social issues after the pandemic.

Yotam Avni Releases Debut Album ‘Was Here’ on Kompakt Records

Yotam Avni

It’s taken Yotam Avni a little while to get to his debut album; almost a decade, really, since his debut 12”, “That’s What The World Needs”, on California’s Seasons Limited imprint.

During that time, the Tel-Aviv based DJ and producer has refined his productions, tightening the groove and paring everything back to bare essentials; the power in an Avni cut is its combination of piston-pulse propulsion and a deep, but gently applied, musicality. This combination gives his techno productions added heft on the dance floor, but also a lyrical sensibility that places him squarely in a tradition of techno legends who somehow manage to make the four-to-the-floor a space of poetic intensity, of rigorous joy.

Avni’s been on Kompakt’s radar for a while, first appearing on the label last year, with his Speicher contribution, “Mañana Mañana”. (“Track For Agoria”, from that EP, also appeared on Total 19.) The connection immediately made sense – dance music that managed to feel both lush and streamlined across the same great gasp of late-night energy. But with Yotam Avni Was Here, he’s taken a huge leap.

Yotam Avni Was Here

After a brief intro, Avni sets his stall with “Beyond The Dance”, which features slow-moving vocal melisma over sculptural, melting tonalities, a tintinnabulating, harpsichord-like two-note phrase pacing out the track. Then “It Was What It Was” comes into view, its strip-light textures suddenly placed into sharp relief by a muted trumpet figure that hangs in the air, melancholy and pensive.

It’s no surprise, at this point, to discover that Avni’s inspirations for Was Here took in the histories of both techno and jazz.

“I wanted to try something more around Detroit Techno meets ECM,” he reflects, when explaining the motivating forces behind the album. “Carl Craig’s Just Another Day EP and Kenny Larkin’s Keys, Strings, Tambourines came out during my high school years and had huge impact on me.

Avni’s also appeared on Transmat compilations, and remixed artists like the Midwest’s Titonton Duvanté, and Orlando Voorn – the latter particularly important for the way he connected the Detroit and Amsterdam techno scenes – his career path is marked by ongoing connections, direct and indirect, to Detroit’s storied history.

I always wanted to go back to those hi-tek soul roots on a full album,” he continues, and he’s definitely exploring that terrain here, with the sky-strafing brass on “Free Darius Now”, morse-code keys on “Vortex” and glitchy, microhouse tickles of “Know Hope” all contributing to an oblique narrative that seems to arc across Was Here – one fleshed out by guest musicians, who include dop and Gerog Levin on vocals, and trumpets by Greg Paulus (of Beirut and No Regular Play). The cover art makes the jazz connection explicit, riffing on the text-based, minimal design of The Modern Jazz Quartet’s 1955 album for Prestige, Concorde.
