Nathassia returns with another fine slice of electronica entitled ‘Light Of The World

Nathassia

London based artist, Nathassia returns with another fine slice of electronica – this time, teaming up with UK duo Rare Candy on a slick collaborative cut, entitled ‘Light Of The World’.

Signalling her first collaboration with the DJ and producer duo Rare Candy, Nathassia (pronounced Natasha) continues to embrace her multi-cultural approach to electronica and she creates a record that stays true to form, delivering an infectious, groove driven affair.

As an artist, Nathassia lets her creativity speak directly through her music & combines an array of musical elements – bringing them together in her own unique style. Clearly seen with her releases in recent times, including ‘Is Everybody Searching‘, ‘Turning Headz‘, ‘Goddess‘ and ‘Bang The Drums‘.

Quoted by DJ Mag as ‘A rare broken beat number’, along with T.H.E. Music Essentials as ‘An artist unlike any other’. Hold tight, as ‘Light Of The World‘ continues to propel Nathassia further into the spotlight.

Cercle invites ZHU for a spectacular set at Hakuba Mountain Harbor in Japan

ZHU Cercle

ZHU, the mysterious Los Angeles-based DJ, producer and singer and the man  behind “Faded” will play a very unique live set on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the majestic Hakuba Mountain Harbor (白馬岩岳 Hakuba Iwatake), a spectacular terrace that overlooks the Iwatake summit and the Japanese Alps.

ZHU will be shot from multiple angles by cameras and drones and will be broadcasted live on Cercle‘s official Facebook fan page. After the performance he will be interviewed and the online audience will be able to ask their questions.

ZHU began his musical career as an anonymous, shadowy figure because he wanted to be judged by his music alone.

“To me, I just wanted the music to speak for itself. People are gonna find out and catch on and in the beginning all we were trying to do was like, “Hey, here’s the music, listen to it without judging who’s behind it.”  Obviously people want to find out who the artist is but to me, the music is definitely more important than who’s behind it.”

By simply letting the music speak for itself, ZHU has amassed over two billion streams across all of his songs.

Sea Star Festival 2020 reveals Phase 1 Lineup with Amelie Lens, Umek & Tijana T

Nina Kraviz playing at Sea Star Festival

Envisioned by the team behind the multi-awarded EXIT Festival, its sister Sea Star Festival, settled in the scenic Croatian seaside town Umag, will take place 22-23 May at the beautiful Stella Maris lagoon, kicking off the long summer season.

One of the biggest hip-hop groups of all time, Cypress Hill, will lead the bill and they will be joined by Amelie Lens, Umek, Tijana T, Farrago, Meduza, Dubioza Kolektiv, as well as the strong local hip-hop lineup and many more artists to be announced in the weeks ahead! The Californian rap gods, who have a whopping 20 million albums sold worldwide, will have only two big shows in Europe: one in Iceland, as well as at the Sea Star Festival, to which they are coming with their entire five-member lineup.

Credited for hits Insane In The Brain, Tequila Sunrise, Rock/Rap Superstar, Hits From The Bong and I Ain’t Goin ‘Out Like That, Cypress Hill has strongly influenced the global hip- hop scene, and with their outside-the-box thinking have promoted bilingualism since their first album.

Indispensable in popular culture, this famous band also received an episode in the cult series The Simpsons, their hits playing in the super-popular Grand Theft Auto game and movies such as The Fast & Furious series, The Sopranos, Mr. Robot, The Wolf of Wall Street, Friday, to name only a few. These visionaries are musical role models to all the great hip-hop and rap groups that came after them.

Sea Star Festival 2020 lineup

Cypress Hill left a mark on music history as the originators of the West Coast hip-hop sound, but also as the musical prophets who announced the present day, global rise of Latin rap, three decades ago. Their first single, How I Could Just Kill A Man, was the epitome of hardcore gangsta rap that opened the door to an array of icons such as 2Pac, Snoop Dogg and others.

The eccentric sound and unusual sample selection also inspired a new, different, hip-hop wave in the East that would be made famous by the Wu-Tang Clan just a few years later. And so, Cypress Hill has prophetically set the foundations for the hip-hop sound of the ’90s, simultaneously affecting a crossover that blended rock and metal with urban ghetto sounds, making their sound distinctive.

Sea Star – A festival in a Magical Lagoon

Sea Star festival promoted by the team behind globally acclaimed EXIT Festival takes place in a beautiful seaside town of Umag at the mind-blowing Croatian coast. It is set in the Stella Maris resort, in a turquoise-color lagoon with most amazing sunsets. Umag represents a breathtaking combo of baroque and renaissance, and Mediterranean climate, while this entire Istrian region is known of its delicious homemade and gourmet food, olive groves, fields of tomatoes and vineyards. Sea Star Festival is a perfect invitation to initiate summer on a stunning location, with world renowned artists and an outstanding production!

The fourth edition of the Sea Star Festival will be held at the famous Stella Maris lagoon in Umag, on May 22 and 23, with the Welcome Party on May 21 and the closing party on May 24.

The Lasai programme has two guest curators in this edition. Saturday’s lineup has been curated by Lena Willikens, while Thursday and Friday will be hosted by the online station Red Light Radio, who will also be streaming and recording the Lasai sessions.

Lasai will make you dance at low revolutions to the intense, dark and psychedelic music of Charlotte Bendinks and explore the limits of mid-tempo dance with French DJ and producer Cosmo Vitelli.

Dancehall music, sound art and techno territories will be explored by Low Jack (Philipphe Hallais) and the most atmospheric feel will be provided by DJ, composer and producer Yu Su and by French artist Marylou. Spanish talent will be represented by Katza, co-founder of the Basque collective Paraleloan and Barcelona duo Iro Aka.

Ivan Smagghe, will make the dance floor shine with his darkest electro house tracks. There will also be room for the industrial beats with 90’s roots of the Dutch Zohar, the disco tribal grooves with powerful drum sounds of Bufiman, the dark and sophisticated techno and deep house of Xhamana Johnes and the unique fusion created by the Dutch Beesmunt Soundsystem.

The list continues with emerging artists from the Dutch underground scene such as Upsammy and Max Abysmal, along with Lena Willikens, who on this occasion will be working hand in hand with El Tigre Sound, for a unique and unexpected live performance.

A large, diverse and quality lineup

Watch out for performances from cult band Ho99o9, Californian rapper SiR, Bristol band Scalping, The 2 bears, Los Bitchos, Working Men’s Club and Ghum.

Rounding off today’s announcement is a vast collective of Spanish talent, including Sen Senra, Fasenuova, Colectivo Da Silva, Yawners’, Megansito el Guapo, Topanga Kiddo, Blanco Palmera, Daniless, DJ Pegatas, Amorante and TOC.

The 15th edition of Bilbao BBK Live will take place on July 9th, 10th and 11th 2020 and, like in previous years, the campsite will feature a privileged location on the top of Mount Arraiz, ideal for nature lovers who come to the festival from outside Bilbao.

Cubicolor release their long-awaited LP ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’

In the wake of acclaimed singles ‘Points Beyond’, ‘Wake Me Up’ and ‘Melodies’ the innovative trio Cubicolor finally share their much anticipated second artist album ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’.

In 2016 they released their debut album ‘Brainsugar’ via acclaimed independent label Anjunadeep. Accumulating over 40 million streams, the album won praise from Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Consequence of Sound and DJ Mag, who described it as “a startlingly accomplished debut” in their 9/10 review.

Originally an electronic duo comprised of Dutch producers Ariaan and Peter, Cubicolor became a three-piece band with the arrival of British singer-songwriter Tim in 2015, after collaborating on breakthrough single ‘Falling’.

A published poet and playwright, Tim’s musical upbringing was rooted in playing guitar and listening to Nick Drake. Combined with Ariaan’s encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music and Peter’s love of late romantic classical, they created what Clash described as “a beautiful, haunting fusion of ideas.”

In 2018 the band delivered, and then shelved, their second album…

“It had twelve tracks, a different name, all the artwork was done and a date was set for it to be released. We got home and listened to it, then called each other and decided to drop the whole thing.

The next week we went back into the studio and started again. We loved the record we made but for some reason, it didn’t feel right, so we didn’t keep anything, we shut ourselves on the boat in Amsterdam where we work and didn’t stop until we’d written a new album.”

A year after going back to the drawing board, the trio now presents ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’. Inspired by the cycles of time, and the cyclical movements of the planets, the new 12 track record weaves together themes of loss, hope, and acceptance.

“There were a lot of moments when we weren’t sure we’d ever find what it was we were looking for. On the way, we lost friends, lost loves, battled health issues, lost an album, lost each other and came back together again. It feels like a lifetime has passed but the world keeps spinning and I guess we knew we would eventually find our strength and make the album we wanted to make.”

Showcasing their remarkable production techniques and textured sound design throughout the album, Cubicolor continues their unconventional rise to the upper ranks of the electronic music world.

“We’re very excited to share our new record with you. We’ve put everything we had into making it. The second album is always the hardest for every artist. For us, it was no different. We nearly broke up, lost loved ones, had significant health issues, but through all of that, we are still here, stronger than ever.

What tied us together then and now is that we love making music. We hope that passion shines through in the music! We’d like to thank everybody that supported us so far. Stay Cubi!”

The band will be taking their live show around the world this summer, including converted festival slots at Montreal’s Osheaga and Amsterdam’s Down The Rabbit Hole alongside a headline London show at Hackney’s Oslo.

Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’ is available now via Anjunadeep, digitally, on CD and on limited edition 2×12” mirri board gatefold vinyl.

Claude VonStroke drops his fourth studio album Freaks & Beaks

Claude VonStroke

Marking the 15th anniversary of his DIRTYBIRD imprint, US dance music DJ and producer, Claude VonStroke has unveiled his fourth studio album, titled Freaks & Beaks.

A diverse collection of music, the 11-track release traverses the electronic spectrum, taking in robotic synths (‘Freaks Don’t Fail Me Now‘), squelching acid (‘Flubblebuddy‘), mutated vocoder vocals (‘Frankie Goes To Bollywood‘), melodic electronica (‘Alpine Arpline‘) and so much more – illustrating the very best of both the label and VonStroke.

Meanwhile two tracks from the album, the fluttering ‘Youngblood‘ featuring West Coast DJ Wyatt Marshall and floor-filling ‘All My People In The House‘, have already been released as a double-single.

Continuing with the celebratory antics, the label will be publishing a coffee table book, with book signings taking place in London and New York. In addition to this, the label will debut their Art Show in Los Angeles, showcasing not just the music from the brand, but also the art.

Not stopping there, VonStroke will kick off a world tour in Berlin (Kater Blau, 21st February) and London (fabric, 22nd February) to coincide with Freaks & Beaks‘ release, before embarking on shows in South America, Asia, North America and more.

Claude VonStroke Freaks & Beaks

What began as a free party, turned basement record label, DIRTYBIRD would later be named #1 ‘label of the decade’ by Mixmag and one of ‘the best 5 independent dance labels of 2017’ by Billboard Magazine. The brand has morphed into a truly thriving community whose familial, fun and welcoming vibe has won over hearts and minds across the world. And while DIRTYBIRD has grown and evolved, VonStroke‘s core focus on music remains unwavering.

Raised in Detroit but now based in LA, VonStroke has grown into one of the most globally recognisable electronic artists. Bursting onto the scene with 2006 smash ‘Who’s Afraid of Detroit?‘ he was later crowned ‘America’s Best DJ‘, topping Pioneer DJ and DJ Times’ poll.

Marking the next chapter in the story of one of the US dance music scene’s most influential figures, Freaks & Beaks sees Claude VonStroke at his bold and brilliant best.

DGTL Festival announce blueprint for 100% sustainability

DGTL

After making great strides in the field of circularity for years, electronic dance  music festival DGTL is taking a crucial next step during its upcoming eighth edition.

As a pioneer in the field of innovation and sustainability, DGTL has created a circular blueprint that can be applied to both a festival and a city. DGTL Amsterdam, which kicks off the festival season on April 11th and 12th at the NDSM Docklands, is therefore the world’s first electronic music festival that pursues full circularity.

The DGTL sustainability program has been running since 2013 and has been aimed from the outset to close cycles in the areas of energy, water & sanitation, food, commodities (waste) and mobility. As the aim this year is to close the entire DGTL circle, organisers have deemed the term ‘CYCLE’ their overarching theme for the 2020 edition. DGTL will close the cycles for a number of on-site systems, including energy, resources, water and sanitation.

DGTL Festival Amsterdam
DGTL

Of course, DGTL remains first and foremost a music festival, and for years have been working with a sustainable way of programming, combining international headliners with local talent.

With over 65 artists spread out over seven stages, DGTL focuses on deepening and broadening the music line-up. For the broader audience, the Modular and AMP stages create a real festival vibe. Connoisseurs and purists can find their way to the techno stage Generator or the more underground-focused Filter. An increasingly prominent part of the program is set up for live performances on the large LIVE stage. View the full line-up via link.

DGTL Barcelona

COLLABORATION WITH THE CITY OF AMSTERDAM

It’s entirely feasible to view a festival as a temporary miniature version of a community. People work and consume, move, eat and sleep. Much like in a community there are all kinds of different flows such as money, energy, food, exchange of knowledge, water and creativity. For this reason, DGTL sees its festival terrain as a living lab for circular innovation in neighbourhoods and cities. By entering into partnerships with, among others, the City of Amsterdam and the Central Government, the festival takes on urban challenges on themes such as the energy transition and a new more sustainable form of sanitation.

ENERGY NEUTRAL

With regard to energy, the objective this year is simple: during show days, energy consumption must come entirely from renewable sources. This means from sun, wind or other inexhaustible sources. The City of Amsterdam has invested in the event facilities at the NDSM Docklands; for example, the construction of additional power boxes has increased access to the main power grid. This means that all energy-demanding parts of the festival – such as bars, lighting and the food court – can simply use the sockets on the NDSM Docklands for their power supply. DGTL‘s energy system will be completely energy-neutral and emission-free during show days and the festival is parting ways with traditional diesel generators.

FROM URINE TO WATER, FROM POO TO COMPOST

DGTL has also started a pilot together with the City of Amsterdam, researchers, toilet suppliers and processors to realize a circular sanitary system at the event. Urine is converted into (gray) water and faeces are processed into compost. DGTL hopes that this pilot offers a blueprint which neighbourhoods, cities and the music and events industry can learn from.

PLANT-BASED MENU

After the introduction of a meat-free food court in 2016, in recent years DGTL has moved towards a menu consisting of rescued food and imperfect products. This year DGTL is taking a step further by offering a fully plant-based (vegan) menu put together by a select group of chefs.

MOBILITY

Another important spearhead is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as a result of mobility movements. By far the largest part of DGTL‘s greenhouse gas emissions is caused by the travels of visitors. Artists’ flights, transport of suppliers and the use of machines during the festival build and dismantling process also produce emissions through burning fossil fuels. DGTL is closely looking at ways to make mobility (visitors, suppliers, artists) as efficient and sustainable as possible.

Regarding the fuel used for the machinery used during the set-up and breakdown of the event, DGTL will switch completely from diesel to biodiesel this year. With this, the festival reduces the CO2 emissions in that area by 89 percent. This year, DGTL also focuses on making traveling by train attractive for both national and international visitors. The festival offers special ticket deals, promoting national and international train transport when purchasing a ticket for DGTL Amsterdam. DGTL aims to direct as many visitors as possible towards travel by train instead of flight travel.

SAGA Festival reveals stellar lineup additions and its debut theme

SAGA Festival launch party

As the hugely exciting edition of ALDA & Insomniac’s brand new SAGA Festival draws ever closer, the eagerly anticipated event amazed festival-goers even further last night, revealing star-studded lineup additions to the already stellar lineup during a special SAGA launch party in Bucharest, Romania.

Unveiling the insight into the festival’s theme via ‘the story of SAGA‘, the telling of the mythical adventure set to greet ravers between 5-7 June at Izvor Park, Bucharest, the Romanian launch party saw a flurry of the finest names from the world of electronic music in attendance during the evening. SAGA also announced plans to go green with the debut edition of the festival focusing on reducing the carbon footprint, and providing waste sustainability through a plastic smart policy.

During the launch party event, SAGA declared the latest billing for its inaugural edition, catering for a wide spectrum of tastes within the dance music world. Australian party starter, DJ, and instrumentalist, Timmy Trumpet has joined the lineup, in addition to psy-trance kings Vini Vici and multi-million selling Swedish songstress Zara Larsson, who will perform a spectacular live show. With a selection of high-profile names added during the Phase 3 announcement, trance maestro Dash Berlin will bring his euphoric sounds to Bucharest, as well as eagerly-anticipated sets from technically skilled DJ and producer Laidback Luke, and powerhouse duo Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano.

SAGA Festival 2020 lineup

Joining them in Romania this summer will be Drumcode founder and techno stalwart Adam Beyer, Dutch producer ADIN, dynamic Ukrainian duo ARTBAT, Frankfurt legend Chris Liebing, and eclectic Glaswegian selector Denis Sulta. As well as a hotly anticipated performance from multifaceted artist Enrico Sangiuliano, there’ll also be sets from progressive techno master Joris Voorn, young Berlin producer Kevin de Vries, melodic maestro Kölsch, and Berghain resident Len Faki.

This latest announcement also includes a special LIVE show from diverse Dutch musician Reinier Zonneveld, and a typically atmospheric showing from iconic German selector Sven Väth.

These names join the already announced cast, which will see a glittering ensemble of names from house, trap, and progressive, head to Romania between 5-7 June 2020, with GRAMMY winning DJ and producer Tiësto performing a Romania 2020 summer exclusive.

The lineup is also set to include Norwegian superstar Alan Walker (Romania 2020 summer exclusive), future house supremo Don Diablo, British brothers Disclosure, acclaimed trance act Faithless (DJ Set), American masked mogul Marshmello (only Romanian performance of 2020) and the Bucharest debut of one of the hottest new names on the scene; Meduza. With the likes of tropical house pioneer Sam Feldt (Romania 2020 exclusive performance) and pop-dance master Sigala (first time in Bucharest) also in attendance, SAGA party-goers will be on hand to experience the beginning of a brand new era for the Romanian festival scene, with more than 150 artists performing across 5 diverse stages during the weekend.

SAGA GOES GREEN

In addition to a scintillating Phase 3 billing, SAGA has also revealed a new partnership with WWF, with the purpose of enrolling as many people as possible to act for preserving Romanian biodiversity and the quality of air, water and food. The agreement, which will see SAGA aim to be a sustainable event, will see the Romanian spectacle bid to secure a low ‘festival footprint’, a term made up of the waste management, carbon footprint compensation, sourcing of local food, use of public transport, and much more.

As figureheads of the environmental change movement, WWF Romania wants to promote a great understanding of the issues facing the world as we know it, with half of all forests and coral reefs globally already lost, together with 80% of wetlands, and two-thirds of the world’s long rivers.

SAGA will also work with Reciclad’OR, the green partner of the festival, to encourage all festival goers to reduce their impact on the environment. Aiming to reduce the carbon footprint, through a plastic smart policy, and sustainably managing waste, the organisation looks to protect the local area, urging party goers to recycle and become more responsible in ensuring the safety of our planet, environmentally.

Reciclad’OR prepares plenty of creative activities to stimulate the eco-conscious and eco-curious and offer innovative ways to solve the problems of waste and pollution during the entire festival, and thanks to a partnership with Green Point, a special ‘Eco Island’ will be created every day at SAGA.

Tickets available here.
