ALDA & Insomniac reveal first acts for their brand new ‘SAGA’ music festival in Bucharest

SAGA Festival

After creating a stir with a mysterious announcement earlier this week, the SAGA Festival worldwide ticket-sale has officially started.

To celebrate the debut of the Bucharest-based festival, which will take place between June 5-7, fans can now take advantage of a very special offer and purchase limited 3-Day Loyalty passes for just €21 (99 RON).

To accompany this poignant milestone, SAGA founders ALDA and Insomniac – two major leaders in the world of dance music events – have now revealed the first names set to perform at the Romanian festival, which already promises to be one of the highlights of 2020.

Hosting 150+ artists across 5 diverse stages, SAGA party-goers will be treated to a live set from siblings Howard and Guy Lawrence, best known as 5x Grammy nominated UK deep house pioneers Disclosure. Beginning their production path as teenagers, the pair have since developed a reputation for delivering many of the finest house anthems of the 21st century.

As the park transforms into one giant dancefloor, future house king Don Diablo, who rose to a career-high position of #6 in the recent DJ Mag Top 100 poll, will also be in attendance at the Bucharest celebration, as he prepares to delight attendees with a culmination of his greatest and most iconic hits.

Electronic act Sister Bliss is also set to perform an eagerly anticipated Faithless DJ set at the SAGA debut. As a founding member of the iconic trio, who surpassed 15 million record sales worldwide across a whopping six studio albums, her performance is expected to be one for the books.

The first phase of names set to perform at this huge inaugural edition is rounded off by global superstar Marshmello, who recently won the title of ‘Favorite Artist – Electronic Dance Music (EDM)’ at the 2019 AMAs, a highly competitive category that Avicii and The Chainsmokers were also nominated for. The American masked mogul has enjoyed a uniquely meteoric rise through the scene since his 2015 debut.

Lastly, the debut of SAGA music festival will see a performance from MEDUZA, the Italian act responsible for 2019’s biggest dance track in the shape of ‘Piece Of Your Heart’.

Marking the beginning of a brand new era for Bucharest, SAGA will look to bring a fully immersive festival experience to the crowd in attendance, raising the bar for all future events. With the sale of special 3-Day Loyalty passes now underway, ALDA & Insomniac‘s first foray into Romania is sure to prove one of the most unmissable events on next year’s festival calendar.

Paul Kalkbrenner teams up with the production house behind ‘Chernobyl’ TV series

Paul Kalkbrenner

Originally released as part of the 2018 LP ‘Parts of Life’, the celebrated German live electronic artist Paul Kalkbrenner today releases the music video for album track, ‘Part Twelve’.

With eight studio albums to his name, countless performances at the world’s most sought-after clubs and festivals, Paul Kalkbrenner is an artist who has consistently remained at the forefront of electronic music.

Crossing over from the underground to also achieve mainstream success, Paul Kalkbrenner notably composed the soundtrack to Hannes Stoeh‘s feature length film ‘Berlin Calling‘. The German cult film rose in popularity seeing Kalkbrenner’s soundtrack go Platinum with standout single, ‘Sky and Sand‘ spending over one hundred and twenty-one weeks in the German singles charts, marking a German record.

“Music videos can be tricky. They sometimes can ruin the spirit of a song with the wrong images. I was intrigued with this project from the beginning, especially as ‘Part Twelve’ was never a contender for a video. Taisia certainly gave the song a new level.”Paul Kalkbrenner

Collaborating with the Kyiv based production house Radioaktive Film, whose projects have gained global accolades at major film festivals including Cannes Lions, MTV Music Video Awards, EPICA Awards, along with being awarded the 2018 ‘Best Service Production Company of the World’ at the SHOT’s awards.

Radioaktive Film is also the production house behind HBO/Sky‘s critically acclaimed TV mini-series ‘Chernobyl’. One of 2019’s standout series, ‘Chernobyl’ received nineteen nominations at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, winning three awards for ‘Outstanding Limited Series’, ‘Outstanding Directing’, and ‘Outstanding Writing’, along with ranking as the fourth-highest rated TV series via the online entertainment platform, IMDB.

Written and directed by the Russian born female director Taisia Deeva, whose arthouse short productions have won awards at several international film festivals across Spain, Australia, Russia and Italy, ‘Part Twelve‘ focuses around the life of a patriarchal and totalitarian community living in an isolated place after the death of the oldest man, their leader. Whilst all the male members are allowed to leave and progress with life, the female members commit a collective suicide in order to join their leader in the afterlife.

“I am a big fan of Paul Kalkbrenner’s music. The first time I heard ‘Part Twelve’, it made me literally feel like life was flowing through my body. Sparks of ecstasy. A stabbing feeling of regret. The story then started to unfold in my head.”Taisia Deeva

With Paul Kalkbrenner‘s ‘Paul Twelve‘ available to watch now, the project has already picked up support from tastemaker and digital video platform NOWNESS.

Solardo unveil remix of Emmanuel Jal & Nyarauch ‘Ti Chuong’

Solardo

Manchester duo Solardo have released their remix for Emmanuel Jal & Nyaruach’s single ‘Ti Chuong’, out now via Three Six Zero Recordings.

The extended mix sees the brothers blend dubstep elements to masterful effect, before the ‘Solardo Radio Edit‘ delivers a radio-friendly version of the opening track.

One of the most recognisable duos in dance music, Solardo released one of the sounds of the summer with ‘XTC‘, their club smash in collaboration with Eli Brown. Making Ibiza their summer launchpad, they held down an Ushuaia residency alongside Camelphat and Fisher, while currently in the midst of an Australian tour.

A brother and sister duo from South Sudan, Emmanuel Jal & Nyaruach spent the first few years of their lives apart, as civil war ravaged the country and Jal was forced to become a child soldier. Overcoming these personal struggles, Jal is now a peace ambassador based in Canada while Nyaruach has become a vital spokesperson for women’s rights and education. The pair continue to make heartfelt, emotive music that draws on their past experience and continues to strike a chord with listeners.

An innovative, club-ready take on an already highly danceable track, the Solardo remix of ‘Ti Chuong‘ looks destined to become a DJ staple over the winter season.

Interview with Joe Hawes discussing his latest release ‘Shakin’

Joe Hawes

Inspired by superstar DJs and producers such as Don Diablo and Martin Garrix, Joe Hawes has made appearances in Amnesia, Ibiza for Cream and at a sold out Wakestock Festival in Wales, supporting the likes of Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 along the way.

Exploring a slightly different sound with his latest release ‘Shakin’, Joe Hawes has received tons of global support along with charting on Beatport’s Electro House top 20 so our team caught up with him to find out more about this release.

Tell us a bit about the story behind ‘Shakin’?

Shakin’ is the first track I’ve done in this more bass heavy style, I wanted to switch up my sound a little whilst still maintaining energy. The idea was to create a track that had a memorable hook and also a lot of energy!

When I finished the track, it had a different vocal on it, and was going to be called “Headbangerz”. However, the vocal was quite heavy on the swearing front! So, I decided to find another vocal that wasn’t so explicit, that’s when I came up with Shakin’!

How do you usually start off your productions?

I usually like to start in the break or build up. However, as the focus of this track is the drop, I thought it would make sense to make a drop that hits hard and then work backwards from there. I don’t think there is ever a set way to start a track I think taking each track as it comes and starting on what the most important element of the track is going to be will always be a good start.

What was it like working with Hungry Koala Records?

Great! It was my first time on their label, I contacted them as I saw they were appearing in the Beatport charts a lot and then within a few hours after sending my demo submission I had a reply back asking to sign the track!

How has the initial reaction been?

Better than I expected that’s for sure! I get mentions on Instagram of people supporting the track and some pretty decent clubs, also the track got up to number 18 in the Electro House Chart on Beatport and number 7 in the Electro House top releases chart!

What’s your favourite part of this release?

The drop! It sounds so epic on a big system and always gets the crowd going.

Can we hear any of your influences in this track?

To be honest, when I started this track I kinda just sat down and didn’t really listen to anything else, I just wrote what I felt. Once the track got going, I listened to some of Afrojack’s more Bass House type of tracks and also listened to a lot of tracks he has in his Spotify playlist, as they are mainly Bass Heavy tracks. So, they were great to use for references.

Would you say this is the typical Joe Hawes sound?

Nope! I’d says it’s a new style, however if you listen to some of my bootlegs and remixes, I’ve released recently you can kind of hear the change in sound over course of the releases. I will be releasing more tracks with this type of sound soon.

Do you have any advice for budding producers?

My biggest advice is don’t give up. We all have times where we get writers block and even now there are times I will sit at the computer and spend 4 hours on something, and the ideas are just so weak that it gets me down and I doubt myself.

The way I try to look at producing now is it’s a numbers game. I know if I write 20 ideas for a track, most won’t be usable, but a few will be decent. So, I’d also advise to know when to leave a track if its too weak.

Was there any point where you thought ‘this release is going to be great!’?

Not really to be honest, I was quietly hoping I would chart somewhere on the top 100 Beatport Electro House, but I never expect a top 20 slot! I knew it’s a very playable track and works on the dance floor, so I was expecting to get some support on it too which it had a lot of so I’m very happy over all with this one!

What have you got planned over the coming months?

My new Alias for my live drum show should be launching in the new year which has been getting some amazing traction and feedback. This will be under the name “JL” which basically means Joe Live.

On top of that I have a few tracks I’m working on which I’m very excited about and also more releases in the new year, alongside some more bootlegs.

Listen to Joe Hawes‘ track “Shakin” below and stay tuned for more incredible tracks because this guy is showing no signs of taking his foot off the gas!
