Exclusive “This or That” Interview with Lenell Brown

Lenell Brown

Super-talented Award-winning vocalist Lenell Brown has become a staple vocal full of soul in the dance music industry and now works as a resident vocalist for one of Spain’s biggest dance labels Clipper’s Sounds.

Some of his previous tracks include ‘Somewhere’, ‘Summer Time’ and more recently ‘I Need Lovin’. Renowned for working with some of the world’s best producers in the music industry, we sat down with Lenell for a quick “This or That” interview.

Recording or Performing?

I enjoy being in the studio and really enjoy the ‘creating and producing’ side of things but… I LOVE being on stage and performing live. I love the energy of the audience and the challenge of connecting with people that you don’t know while performing my music.

R&B/HipHop or Electronic?

Great question! Actually I have the majority of my charted tracks in the Electronic/Dance genre but I incorporate a lot of my R&B vocals and Hip Hop vibe into my Electronic productions so I’m fortunate to have the best of both worlds!

Switzerland or Spain?

Now that’s a hard one. Switzerland is beautiful and I’m more than blessed to live in such a beautiful country. I have major support from both countries but my amazing label, ‘Clipper’s Sounds’ is located in Barcelona and they show me mad love and support and give me the opportunity to present my music to the world. SPAIN ROCKS!!!

Club or Festival?

Clubs for the up close and intimate gigs and summer festivals to go crazy and enjoy the hot summer vibe and electricity in the air.

Intimate gig or 1000’s of people?

Intimate gig…

Big nights out or cozy nights in?

I for sure enjoy cozy nights in!

Loud and belting or quiet and heartfelt?

Quiet, heartfelt and meaningful vocals accented with strong ad-libs.

‘I Need Lovin’ or ‘Somewhere’?

“I Need Lovin“!! It’s just a solid track all the way around. I love the production and arrangement and the incorporated Hip Hop vibe it’s a “BLASTER“ love that track!

Erick Morillo remixes Joe Smooth’s house classic ‘Promised Land’

Erick Morillo has remixed the house music classic ‘Promised Land’ by Joe Smooth, out now via Armada’s Subjekt label.

Morillo delivers an unmistakable tech-house vibe on his remix, delivering a track that seems destined for the terraces of Ibiza. The 1987 original was previously ranked #20 in a Mixmag list of ‘100 Greatest Dance Singles Of All Time‘.

“Promised Land was a staple in my arsenal when I was a young DJ,” Erick explains.

“The message in the vocals is very positive and it always made me dance. You can say it’s why I make positive message songs with grooves you can get lost in. So happy to be able to give it a new take and make the dancefloor pump and enjoy the vocals in the breakdown. What a delight” he adds.

The remix marks Morillo’s first release since ‘Fifth Element‘, a progressive track that signalled a change of creative direction for the Colombian-American. This was a natural follow-on from ‘Medication‘, last April’s grooving collaboration with Paradise label head Jamie Jones and Chicago favourite Gene Farris

The platinum-selling artist completed a stacked European tour this year, playing a handpicked run of shows at the likes of Watergate, Amnesia, Resistance, DC10, Brooklyn Mirage and ANTS amongst others.

Erick Morillo continues his back-to-basics approach with his grooving remix of house classic ‘Promised Land‘.

Magnificence have teamed up Shapov for their brand new track, ‘Unboring The Future’

Magnificence

Dutch powerhouse duo Magnificence have teamed up with Russian ace Shapov for their brand new collaborative release, ‘Unboring The Future’.

With both acts cementing a soaring reputation as ‘the future of house music’, this dream collaboration has now transformed into a reality, with both acts delivering their distinct and unique sonic styles across the track.

Making their breakthrough in 2018 when Swedish House Mafia supported their EP during the tracklist of their reunion set at Ultra Miami, Magnificence have been creating a huge stir in the industry ever since, bringing that nostalgic ‘pure rave’ touch back to dancefloors worldwide.

Further making saves as trendsetters with releases such as ‘Fire’, ‘Closer’, and ‘Cobra’, the pair also released their 2nd EP made up of ‘Remember’ and ‘Control’, and more recently, dropped ‘The Drill’. Finding a home for their house-focused beats on Axwell’s iconic Axtone imprint, the duo have also branched out to releases on Martin Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS and Tiësto‘s Musical Freedom.

With Shapov joining Magnificence in the studio for ‘Unboring The Future’; the Russian continues to surge through the industry, carrying an impeccable reputation as one of the most influential producers in the global house scene up to now.

Magnificence Shapov Unboxing The Future

Starting out as one half of hugely popular duo Hard Rock Sofa, the pair’s progressive hits ‘Here We Go’ (used as the soundtrack to blockbuster movie series ‘The Fast & The Furious’) and 2013’s ‘Rasputin’ soon became staple parts of Swedish House Mafia’s #OneLastTour set lists. Recently Shapov demonstrated his diversity with ‘The Last Dancer’, ‘Our Origin’ and now “La Résistance De L’amour” to complete the “Trilogy” EP alongside Dutch trance master Armin van Buuren.

First born at a DJ & writers camp with Peugeot in Amsterdam last October, Magnificence & Shapov’s ‘Unboring The Future’ has now been selected as the score to the legendary car manufacturer’s latest commercial campaign, with the track used in various advertisements.

The decision highlights the truly global appeal of both Magnificence and Shapov, now both bonafide world stars in their own right, with the track set to drop on Epic247 Recordings in partnership with Universal Music Publishing, Amp.Amsterdam, Havas Lemz and Peugeot Netherlands.

Due on December 13 via esteemed Berlin-based imprint, Embassy One, Monolink’s Amniotic Deluxe LP will feature no less than eight unreleased cuts, including a brand new original single titled ‘Outgrown’, a remix from each of Purple Disco Machine and Acid Pauli, three Acoustic versions and two exclusive Live Recordings from his Mayan Warrior performance at Burning Man in 2018.

Speaking about the forthcoming release of Amniotic Deluxe, Monolink commented:

“My debut album ‘Amniotic’ has been a long time in the making and promoting.
Many years in many continents writing, recording, promoting and touring it. So now that this journey is ending and as I move onto my next album, I wanted to close the door by releasing a new version for my fans that contains new remixes, a couple of my favourite ever ‘live’ versions of the tracks as well as three acoustic versions of the singles that I always wanted to record but didn’t get the chance before.

Plus a completely new track called ‘Outgrown’ that I’ve had kicking around a while, but which never made ‘Amniotic’.  Anyway I really hope everyone loves all this new music as much as I do”

The balearic, funk tinged Purple Disco Machine Remix of ‘Take Me Home’, which is out now across all platforms ahead of the full album release on December 13, follows a slew of notable album remixes already from some of the biggest hitters in electronic music including Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Tale of Us, ARTBAT and Patrice Bäumel.

In addition, an Amniotic Acoustic EP will be released on November 29, complete with three beautiful, stripped back interpretations of ‘Sirens’, ‘Father’ and ‘Swallow’.

Monolink – Amniotic Deluxe will be released on December 13, via Embassy One. Pre-order here.
