Festival-goers Stunned After Experiencing Coachella’s Psychedelic Dome [VIDEOS]

Coachella's Psychedelic Dome
Coachella's 2017 Psychedelic Dome

California’s annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is always known for showcasing some of the world’s most established artists and bands as well as some pretty amazing art installations. But this year’s Psychedelic Dome edition left festival-goers mind blown.

Unlike any festival before, Coachella gave their attendees an experience of a lifetime inside the world’s largest geodesic projection dome, taking viewers on a metamorphic journey through time, space and consciences.

With a 360° view and comfy reclining chairs, the 500-person audience is immersed into a psychedelic experience as an 8-minute audiovisual program is projected above.

Joshua Pipic, creative director of the project, told Creators that the main goal was to get into the minds of the viewers and incorporate something that you can’t normally experience at Coachella. Considering campfires are banned from the festival, he wanted to somehow integrate that idea.

“We started with the idea of campers gathering around a fire together in the wilderness, and embarking on the psychedelic experience after that,” Pipic said.

With the help of Obscura Digital, a creative studio that crafts one-of-a-kind immersive experiences, and Pacific Domes, the leading builder of Geodesic Domes in the U.S., they successfully created this virtual reality masterpiece. The two teams spent an entire year collaborating together and their hard work definitely paid off.

The final result consists of a 60 Ft tall, 120 Ft diameter steel vinyl dome equipped with 15 projectors, 108 L’Acoustics speakers, 16 subwoofers and 500 seats. Chrysalis, as the show is called, is incorporated with unforgettable visuals of giant neon caterpillars, alien landings, and geometric shapes pulsing through the galaxy.

Suzie Maez, 20-year-old festival lover from Dallas, TX, attended her second Coachella this past April and raved about her incredible psychedelic dome experience.

“It’s pretty dark inside, there’s a ton of really comfy chairs that lean back and it’s basically a bunch of trippy shapes,” Maez said. “The graphics were amazing. I felt like I was actually moving through the so called ‘journey’.”

The Coachella team plans to bring the dome to New York City for the Panorama Music Festival this July and is considering several other festival destinations.

“I would love if they brought the dome to other festivals,” Maez said. “It was super different. Overall, I give it a 10/10, I honestly loved it and I wish I went in more than once.”

Coachella reports the dome will without a doubt be making another appearance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival so don’t forget to get your tickets, this is definitely something you don’t want to miss.

The Secret History of Rave Totems [Pictures]

img via Insomniac

One of the best parts about a rave are all the funny and unique totems that people bring along with them.

Some festival goers even spend hours and hours making theirs in hopes to maybe make it onto a funny meme. What started out as a fun and creative way to locate your group has turned into a staple in the EDM World.

Once only used as a way to locate your group, the totem trend has now progressed into a fun, artistic addition to rave day. It’s said that back in 1969 at the famous Woodstock Festival, bands would use cardboard to write messages to their fellow band members in order to find them before their performances. Who would have known that rave totems would have started from a trashed pieces of cardboard.

You can find some of the funniest Totems at today’s biggest electronic dance music festivals. On the other hand you can also find some political ones, for example the ones with Donald Trump. Some raves are host to more totems than others, the Tomorrowland Festival is known to have an abundance of them. Electric Daisy Carnival is another festival that is well known for it’s totem culture.

The rave scene wouldn’t be the same without these brilliant totems. They’re something that every raver looks forward to when attending an event. If you’re feeling down at a rave, these signs will surely give you a laugh. Check out some of the worlds greatest totems below.

rezz and griz
REZZ ,Shot by Will Selviz

GRiZ then goes on to state, “it’s not exactly what you might expect and maybe I’m crazy but you can be the judge lolol

Whatever these two are planning, fingers crossed that we get so hear some amazingly weird and funky mixes from them in the near future!

Slow your roll: Researchers have uncovered a new way to detect MDMA

taking ecstasy
photo via Rex images

The standard methods of MDMA drug testing may soon become a thing of the past, thanks to a new discovery made by researchers at the University of Valencia and CIBER-BNN (The biomedical research networking center in Engineering).

A majority of the ecstasy testing methods that are common today are often expensive, and the waiting time for the results are long and flawed — with some tests even triggering false positive results.

“It is our impression that a need exists for more reliable, user friends and cheaper tests. What makes our method stand out is that it can detect even small traces,” said Jan O. Jeppeson, a chemistry professor at the University of Southern Denmark.

So how does it work?

Jeppeson and his team have discovered that a certain molecular activity is able to detect even very small traces of the active compound in ecstasy, with almost 100 certainty. With this knowledge, cheap testing kits can be developed that are smaller, and more portable than those found in the standard lab.

The test begins with a ball of composed atoms, which are simple to make. The ball is then filled with little holes, allowing it to be filled up with smaller molecules. For this The ball is designed to light up if they are released from the holes.

If there are no detectable amounts of MDMA (the active ingredient in ecstasy) within range, the molecules will not be able to leave the ball. When the ball opens up, the luminescent molecules flow out and can be detected by a sensor. This is only triggered if the it comes into contact with MDMA.

This new method of testing could provide more accessible test kits to medical facilities and recreational users, providing a more accurate and safe experience for all involved.
