Monolink Delivers 2 Part Harlem River/Falling EP

With the worldwide release of his second studio album Under Darkening Skies just weeks away, German singer-songwriter, electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist Steffen Linck (a.k.a. Monolink) now unveils two more tracks taken from the impending long player, as he drops his breathtaking new EP, Harlem River / Falling.

Available to stream/download now, the eclectic two-part package is everything we’ve come to expect and more from the prolific Berlin-based artist, who continues to demonstrate his innate knack for creating deep, emotive and intelligent electronic music of the very highest calibre.

Igniting the double-sided cut with the spellbinding opener Harlem River, Monolink shares his cover of Kevin Morby‘s iconic 2013 single of the same name, delivering a sophisticated blend of warped synth leads and trippy vocal refrains, all brought together underneath a veil of chugging four-four rhythms and slick, organic instrumentation.

Recalling the origins of the track, Monolink comments:

Harlem River is a tribute to the beautiful original of Kevin Morby. I was out in nature one day, listening to it on my headphones and realized that it would translate perfectly into the soundscapes I like to work with. That’s how the idea was born.

On the flip, Steffen lowers the tempo considerably for the emphatic closer Falling, by exploring a rich tapestry of contrasting timbres and tones across a spacious, four-minute run-time. Combining lethargic, stripped-back polyrhythms, intricately-layered textures and powerful chord stabs with trademark flair, Monolink concludes a remarkable EP release whilst simultaneously offering a tantalizing preview of one the most eagerly-awaited album releases of 2021.

Having established himself as one of the most unique solo live acts to emerge onto the global electronic music scene over the past few years, Monolink‘s rapid rise to global stardom has been remarkable to say the least. Classically trained, and with an instrument-focused musical upbringing, he has managed to carve a reputation as one of the most dynamic performing artists on the melodic techno circuit, tastefully straddling the fence between electronic producer and live singer-songwriter.

Due for worldwide release on Friday, June 11, Monolink‘s second full-length musical opus, Under Darkening Skies, follows on from the critically lauded release of his debut LP Amniotic back in April 2018, and will feature twelve stirring vocal-led electronic compositions, including his internationally celebrated hit singles, Otherside and The Prey.

Martin Garrix, Bono and The Edge release the Official UEFA EURO 2020 Song

Sony Music Netherlands today announce the release of the official UEFA EURO 2020 song ‘We Are The People’ from Martin Garrix, featuring Bono and The Edge. After more than a year of anticipation and having to keep this a secret, the track is now available to stream and download via all digital service providers.

The song is accompanied by an official music video starring all three artists. The visuals work in synergy with the song and together make for an uplifting and inspiring story.

With the track in the making for three years, Garrix had felt from the early stages of the creative process that Bono‘s vocals would make the perfect fit for ‘We Are the People‘. His vision came to life when both Bono and his U2 bandmate The Edge agreed to feature on the song. The collaboration evolved further with Bono writing the lyrics and creating melodies and The Edge adding the leading guitar riffs, resulting in a perfect blend of the signature sounds of all artists.

Here’s what Martin Garrix had to say about the song:

Creating the music for one of the biggest sports events in the world together with Bono and The Edge has been an incredible experience. I’m very proud of what we did together and excited to finally share it with the world!”

We Are The People‘ reminds us that a song can look at the challenges facing the world at a given time and still attempt a unified response. It is a hymn sheet from which we can all sing where ever we may come from, but especially in Europe where the competition will focus the attention of the whole world.

We Are The People‘ hopes to reflect the positivity, hope, and determination required for any team to succeed, as well as offer a sense of togetherness that fits the theme of UEFA EURO 2020: Unity.

Maxim Lany drops next single from forthcoming debut album: ‘My Touch’

Maxim Lany

It’s been almost three months since Maxim Lany announced the forthcoming release of his first-ever album (‘Closer, ‘You’re Not Alone), and the Belgian producer has been piling on the momentum since.

In the wake of ‘Shadows‘ (feat. Nathan Nicholson) and ‘Anymore‘ (feat. Freya), he now delivers the album’s third new single: ‘My Touch‘, featuring Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter Belle Doron.

Adhering to the album’s main theme of hope and positivity in lockdown times, ‘My Touch‘ flaunts Maxim Lany‘s edgy production process. Opening with Belle Doron‘s alluring vocals alongside hypnotic synths, the record draws the listener in whilst paving the way for a powerful synth lead that moves the track into a club dimension.

Maxim Lany: “At the end of 2019, I had my final writing camp at the Armada Music studios in Amsterdam, and I ended up doing a session with Belle Doron. We actually wrote three tracks that day, and ‘My Touch’ was one of them. It got shelved for a short while after that, and I started working on the track again last year during the pandemic.

It was then that I released it would be a great fit for the album, as it has a bit of both worlds: pre-pandemic and peri-pandemic. It’s completely in line with the feel of the album, and I’m positive it will give people hope that we’ll be able to party together in clubs and at festivals again soon.

Paul Oakenfold’s new documentary film now streaming exclusively on FlixFling

Released today exclusively with streaming movie and music service, FlixFling, ‘SoundTrek: A Music Journey To Mount Everest’ is a documentary film that captures electronic dance music pioneer Paul Oakenfold’s April 2017 hike through Nepal’s remote villages and the Himalayan Mountains for a groundbreaking live concert event, a DJ set at the base camp of Mount Everest.

Set at an altitude of 18,800 feet above sea level (breaking a world record) on Mount Everest, the “highest concert on earth” was seen by a worldwide audience of more than three million when it streamed live.

The three-hour concert marked the first SoundTrek event with each of the planned epic experiences around the globe to encompass aspects of music, travel, live performances, premium content, and philanthropy, while also bringing attention to critical issues facing local communities.

SoundTrek MOUNT EVEREST raised money for Supporting Nepal’s Children and Youth Music. New charities will be chosen for each SoundTrek expedition based on the local relevance of each iconic location.

The success of SoundTrek Mount Everest was just the beginning,” Paul Oakenfold says. “Based on the amount of money raised for charity and the global success of the adventure, I plan to do many more SoundTreks around the globe.

For the expedition to Everest, Oakenfold was joined by a skilled team, each of whom had a critical role in the venture. The man behind SoundTrek is Executive Producer Josh Heffler, a well-known entrepreneur and FlixFling partner who organizes large-scale concert events with unique concepts.

Not only is SoundTrek an amazing concept to entertain people, but I really got behind it because I had the opportunity to directly help underprivileged people in numerous locations,Heffler says.

World-renowned mountaineer and Everest guide, Kenton Cool led the pack up the mountain. Cool is an acclaimed British mountaineer and expedition leader who has reached the summit of Everest twelve times. He has appeared on the world’s leading broadcast channels from the BBC to ITN, as well as been featured in a one-hour documentary for BBC 4 & The Discovery Channel.

Of my 13 summits to Mount Everest, the day of the SoundTrek concert was easily the best day I have ever had on Everest Base Camp,Kenton Cool notes.

Also on board, Mark Brimblecombe, owner of Attica Nightclub in Singapore and co-creator of SoundTrek, and Johannes Mahmood, a trainer representing Equinox Gym who attended the trip to ensure the SoundTrekkers were in top physical shape, leading stretching exercises and workouts as daily conditioning before and after each hike.

SoundTrek is ultimately about people and the connections made with others in these experiences,” says Matthew Walk, SoundTrek co-creator.

For me, it is the pinnacle example of how relationships are forged and how the bonds made between individuals can resonate change and awareness in the world. I’m blessed to be a part of it and one day show my children what we can do when we work together with an open heart and a determined mind.

The epic event was captured by internationally recognized and award-winning cinematographer, Mark Fisher, of Fisher Creative.

DJ Mag announces plans for reimagined Top 100 Clubs 2021

DJ Mag, the world’s leading electronic music magazine, announced the dates for this year’s Top 100 Clubs poll. The 2021 edition of the poll, which typically runs annually from December-April, had been delayed due to the impact of the pandemic on the nightlife industry but will now launch this Wednesday (12th May) – reimagined for the current times.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to force the closure of thousands of clubs worldwide. While clubs in some parts of the world are beginning to reopen this year, many are unable to do so. Under the unifying belief that now is not the time to hide clubs away, DJ Mag made the decision to use their platforms to celebrate and support the global nightclub industry as we start to imagine a return to the dancefloor globally.

DJ Mag will celebrate venues through the launch of the Top 100 Clubs 2021 Virtual World Tour, a nine-week virtual showcase open to clubs of all sizes across the globe which you can watch on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch pages.

The sets are taking a variety of forms: they may be a DJ set from an empty club, a classic set from the club at its peak, or a live set from a club that is currently able to open legally and safely.

Alongside this, DJ Mag will be supporting clubs through a directory — available to any venue around the world — on top100clubs.com (from 12th May) and all voting pages during the event period. This directory will collate fundraising efforts by clubs across the world. Each territory is in a different position in terms of the pandemic this year. So each club is in a different situation.

These fundraising efforts could be a direct link to a Crowdfunder campaign supporting the club in question; it may be a link to purchase advance tickets for the venue when it’s open, or to buy merchandise that helps fund the club. It could also be a link to a charitable organisation that a club is supporting locally, such as a food bank or local community organisation.

While these streams are running on DJ Mag’s channels, there will be a link that will enable viewers to donate to crowdfunders linked from within the Top 100 Clubs 2021 Virtual World Tour content.

In addition, DJ Mag have committed to donate a portion of their advertising inventory to participating clubs who are in extreme hardship due to the pandemic.

Martin Carvell, managing director, DJ Mag said: “While dancefloors in certain parts of the world are beginning to reopen, many more are unable to do so. We believe this year’s reimagined Top 100 Clubs will provide an exciting new platform for our community to celebrate and support global nightclub culture safely, until we can all return to the dancefloor together.

The virtual world tour is open to electronic music clubs across the sector, who can apply by contacting top100clubs-virtual@djmag.com

The Top 100 Clubs Virtual World Tour will run from Saturday 15th May — running every Saturday until the middle of July. Watch out on DJMag.com and their social channels for announcements.

Club culture is something to be proud of. Please join DJ Mag, where you can, in supporting and celebrating the world’s most exciting dancefloors.

Voting goes live at vote.djmag.com this Wednesday 12th May and runs until 14th July.
