Charlotte de Witte takes KNTXT on tour

Charlotte de Witte

Belgium’s definitive techno talent Charlotte de Witte is taking her mighty KNTXT party around Europe once more this winter. Across five dates between now and the end of the year, KNTXT will return to Sportpaleis Antwerp, T7 in Paris and fabric in London, as well as making debuts in Spain and Italy.

2019 has been another high water mark for the rapidly rising DJ and producer as she continues to champion her own hypnotic techno perspective on her BBC Radio 1 and Studio Brussel residencies, alongside high profile sets in clubs and festivals all over the world.

Her KNTXT brand continues to grow and make a global impact too, hosting stages at festivals including Tomorrowland and Awakenings as well as launching a new record label, which has already seen a collaboration between de Witte and CLR legend Chris Liebing, with a double EP from the label head herself set to drop in November.

This new tour sees de Witte and KNTXT regular Chris Liebing reunite on November 16th for KNTXT’s second edition in the Sportpaleis, Antwerp. It follows last year’s sold-out epic and welcomes a monstrous back to back between Berghain associates Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, and further sets from UK titan Dax J and the fast rising NTS host Imogen.

November 29th is when Charlotte rolls back into T7 in Paris with Imogen and German innovator Monoloc. A day after on the 30th, Monoloc joins Charlotte along withexciting melodic techno talent Onyvaa at Amnesia in Milan for a first KNTXT party in Italy. Then on December 13th it is a debut party in Spain at Nitsa, Barcelona, with Charlotte joined by Imogen and Voxnox artist Aligment.

Last of all for now is a much anticipated return to fabric in London for a two room take-over with outer space techno and acid duo 999999999, cult Berlin figure Amotik, recent Houndstooth signing and rave, techno and breakbeat innovator Anastasia Kristensen, plus Disco Halal boss and curveball creator Matrixxman as well as Onyvaa.

These showcases are a perfect way to experience the sheer dance floor power of Charlotte de Witte and her compelling take on techno.

Hardwell, Deorro and MAKJ release new track, “Left, Right” ft. Fatman Scoop

hardwell
Hardwell

It’s been both a Summer of colossal future hits and long-awaited, old-skool style IDs from the Dutch maverick that is Hardwell – including anthem of the season ‘Summer Air’ – and now, following the release of ‘Retrograde’, he’s back with yet another epic release on his own Revealed Recordings imprint, playing production pied piper to a handful of collaborators with the crowd-busting ‘Left Right’.

Bouncing back with Deorro and MAKJ since their respective releases on the imprint ‘Rambo’ and ‘Beast’ both standing as huge as their titles imply. The legendary, multi-million streamed Fatman Scoop also boomerangs back to Revealed to inject some hypeman mania into ‘Left Right’, creating the musical equivalent of pure dynamite.

Deorro’s an artist who needs no introduction. Famed for the 2015 megahit ‘Five More Hours’ featuring Chris Brown, which was clocked up close to half a billion Spotify streams, Deorro’s profile hit global status and so too has his impressive stream of releases that includes the likes of ‘Bailar’ and ‘Perdoname’.

Deorro and MAKJ are no strangers to studio time together, having collaborated on multiple tracks with their last one being the popular ‘Retumba’. MAKJ has also previously paired up with Hardwell on the club banger ‘Countdown’.

So, take those two electronic stars, mix in the Dutch titan that is Hardwell and blend it with the Grammy Award winning rapper and undisputed voice of the club Fatman Scoop, and the outcome is pure fireworks!

With the unity of these four huge artists coming together for this masterpiece of thrilling EDM, different styles collide for a release that is as frenzied as it is meteoric as injections of synths permeate like an electric current through Fatman Scoop’s countdown commands, for hypnotising melody stabs follow. It’s a true face melter of the highest order, with a slick of finessed bass to bring another deeper, grooving dimension around the halfway mark; it’s a cherry-picked amalgamation that marries the worlds of EDM, big-room, high-intensity MC’ing and more.

As Revealed Recordings continues to issue defining tracks, praised by many across the industry, ‘Left Right’ has been keeping fans eagle-eyed ever since Hardwell premiered an earlier version of the track during his Creamfields 2018 mainstage – and thankfully, the wait is now no more. Setting alight sets since then that have captivated the hordes of fans across the mainstages of Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival Miami, as well as support from big-hitters in the scene including Fedde Le Grand and label favourites W&W and Kura; make sure you’re ready to jump ‘Left Right’ with the Revealed Recordings crew.

Amsterdam Dance Event

The 24th edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), has just come to end and the organisation already announces next year’s dates: In 2020 The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) will celebrate its 25th anniversary from 21-25 October.

From 16 to 20 October 2019, the largest global platform for electronic music offered over 1,000 events spread across 200 locations, attracting over 400,000 visitors from a record number of nearly 150 countries. The conference also achieved a record number of 9150 delegates, with 600 industry professionals taking part in keynotes, workshops and masterclasses on a variety of topics.

In recent years the Amsterdam Dance Event has become the most important breeding ground for electronic music culture. The day program extensively commemorated the 100 years of electronic musical instruments, including a Museum of Modern Instruments ( MoMI ) in De Brakke Grond.

In addition, there were collaborations with the Milkshake festival and Paradiso, who presented the program ‘For all Who Love‘ in the Duif. The new ADE Zen Space was located at the The Waalse Kerk, in the centre of Amsterdam, which hosted a special sold-out sleep concert, through meditation and special audiovisual installations.

The full cultural day program spread across more than 40 locations in the Amsterdam metropolitan region, including Kunstfort Vijfhuizen, ICK ZuidOost, Het HEM, Lab111, OSCAM and the Noorderkerk as eye-catching locations.

France was the focus country this year, being highlighted in the conference and festival program, with China, Canada and Japan also receiving special attention. In addition, talent development and education also took centre stage within a more extensive ADE Sound Lab program, ADE University, Beats Academy and the first ADE Writers Camp hosted by ADE Sound Lab and VondelCS.

ADE LIVE took place at Paradiso and the Melkweg, offering a stage to upcoming live talent through a two-day program. The American tech company Audionamix won the ADE TECH start-up competition Companies 2 Watch, and the Green Deal Circular Festivals was signed at ADE Green by national and international events. ADE Hangover, the free city festival at the NDSM wharf, took place on Sunday.

After Gary Smith and Gert van Veen, Marco de Goede received the Amsterdam Dance Event Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the dance scene, the city and ADE. De Goede was the foundation of the Nachtburgemeester Foundation, of which he is currently chairman of the supervisory board.

Director Mariana Sanchotene looks back on the event with satisfaction:

“We have had an enormously diverse offering over the past five days, with ample attention for artistic and technologic innovation, talent development, and inclusivity. We have looked after a good spread of the events throughout the city and have made outings to Het HEM in Zaandam and Kunstfort in Vijfhuizen.” She continues ”The aim was to grow in quality, not so much quantity. We always strive to deepen and enrich the imagination of the program and I think we have succeeded. We’re looking forward to our anniversary edition in 2020 with fresh courage and inspiration.”

Oliver Heldens is back with his hardest HI-LO cut to date

Oliver Heldens

Hold on to your hats: Oliver Heldens is back with his hardest HI-LO cut to date.

Poseidon‘ is a full-throttle techno banger with a nasty sting in its tail. Rumbling sub bass throbs away under hard-punching kick before the rasping, distorted synth lead hovers into focus. A huge snare and clap build pushes the intensity before the full, majorly detuned, guttural lead pummels us into submission.

With a seriously wide stereo vibration dominating the attention, this gritty sound plays out a dark melody. Layers of filth bolster its texture, before a heavenly vox synth style arpeggio arrives in the main break to provide some pretty juxtaposition. Handle with care: this one is absolutely devastating!

Oliver Heldens‘ most recent release under his own name, ‘Turn Me On‘, has proved another massive hit for Ministry Of Sound. Gaining close to 5 million streams since its recent release, the track quickly rose to #2 on the UK Shazam Chart and Top 30 on the Global 200 chart. Along with early support from Enrico Sangiululiano, Umek, and Wheba it also received the coveted BBC Radio 1 ‘Tune Of The Week’ accolade and was playlisted by the station as well as by Capital FM and Kiss FM. It also broke into the UK Top 40 Official Chart, marking Heldens 3rd such honor to date.

Ørjan Nilsen officially dropped his highly anticipated album The Devil Is In The Detail

Ørjan Nilsen

Norwegian trance powerhouse Ørjan Nilsen has officially dropped his highly anticipated fourth studio album The Devil Is In The Detail via Armada Music, available for streaming now.

Opening with the title track, ‘The Devil Is In The Detail’, Ørjan Nilsen delivers a cinematic performance behind the DJ decks and smoothly transitions into a future house inspired drop.

Peppered with genre-defying tracks throughout such as ‘Alone’, ‘Ghost Ship’ and ‘Reminiscence‘, Ørjan experiments with tempo changes and takes on different styles of dance music while still incorporating his own signature style.

The Devil Is In The Detail sends listeners on a 14-track journey through sweet melodies, hard-hitting basslines, sultry vocals and breakbeats that only the Norwegian DJ himself can produce. He has exceeded expectations and has gifted fans with the most groundbreaking music of his career.

Norwegian DJ and producer Ørjan Nilsen is having one of his biggest years yet. In 2019 alone, he has gained momentum by releasing a string of hits including ‘FOMO‘, ‘The Chosen One’, ‘Kiara’ and more – all leading up to the debut of his fourth studio album The Devil Is In The Detail. With big goals ahead and a larger-than-life personality, we can expect nothing but success from the Norwegian Dance Viking.

With intentions of bringing more eclectic dance artists into the forefront of the music community, Ørjan Nilsen has taken it upon himself to create his very own label In My Opinion. Housed under Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis’ independent Dutch record label Armada Music, In My Opinion has already garnered a strong roster of artists including Fingerling, Noah Neiman, Maryn, HGHLND, Xavian and others.

Armin van Buuren teams up with NE-YO for new ‘Balance’ collaboration: ‘Unlove You’

Armin van Buuren
via Ruud Baan

Just one week before the release of Armin van Buuren’s seventh artist album, a huge collab emerges as the most recent single to come off of ‘Balance’. A monumental link-up with none other than R&B/pop superstar NE-YO, ‘Unlove You’ sees the seminal artists explore the subject of a recognizable post-breakup dilemma in their own unique way.

A collaboration as eye-popping as it is ear-catching, ‘Unlove You‘ delivers its lyrical message with pinpoint accuracy whilst sporting a club-tinged groove that can do no wrong. With killers vocals, pounding beats and recognizable lyrics that aim straight for the soul, this track shows that being open-minded unlocks a whole new world of possibilities.

Armin van Buuren: “Part of the beauty of having no limitations at all in the studio is that I get to work with the most talented people no matter what ‘genre’ they’re in, and NE-YO is no exception. It’s an honor to have worked together. We both built a legacy in our own respective scenes, and I’m grateful we were able to bridge the gap between them through ‘Unlove You’.”

NE-YO: “I already loved this song because of its subject matter, as it’s familiar territory. But Armin’s musical interpretation takes it to a whole other level. The energy is contagious!”

Prior to the release of the full ‘Balance’ album on October 25, Armin van Buuren already released a handful of new tracks from the album. Previously, fans got a taste of the album through ‘Waking Up With You’ (feat. David Hodges), ‘Mr. Navigator’ (with Tempo Giusto), ‘It Could Be’ (with Inner City), ‘High On Your Love’ (feat. James Newman), ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ (feat. Matluck) and ‘All Comes Down’ (feat. Cimo Fränkel).

And now, with the release of ‘Unlove You‘ and the fact that there are only seven days to come until the album launch, the wait is almost over.
