‘Intelligent and talented’ 21-yr-old student dies after consuming 2.3g of MDMA

mdma

Calum Gill, a law student from Sutton Coldfield, was on his way to BBC’s Radio 1 big music festival in Hull with friends when he suddenly fell ill.

Gill, 21 at the time, had previously swallowed a fatal dose of the drug MDMA after hiding it in paracetamol capsules. While on the double decker headed to the three day event, he reportedly fell over and began having a seizure.

Despite an off duty nurse and police officer’s efforts to revive him, Gill tragically passed away at a nearby hospital after suffering multiple attacks cause by the effects of the drug.

According to the toxicology report, the student had consumed about 2,313mg (2.3 grams) of the Class A drug MDMA.

Commenting on the case, pathologist Dr Laszlo Karsai told Hull coroner’s court: “Levels above 1,800 are in the toxic range and anything beyond that can be fatal.”

Friends and family described Gill as a being “intelligent and talented,” and
“on the cusp of life with the world at his feet.”

eric prydz

The internet has spoken, Swedish superstar DJ and producer, Eric Prydz apparently has an infamous doppleganger.

Believe it or not, a look-alike of Mr. Eric Prydz is a suspect in a bank robbery in Olzstun, Poland. A clever fan pointed out after seeing images from a bank robbery. The similarity between these two men is undeniable and anyone can be fooled.

Normally such a thing would have gone unnoticed and Prydz himself had to say something about this on his Twitter profile.

Eric had been in Ibiza and Europe all summer doing shows and some major festivals. Now that he is back home let’s hope we hear some new dope tunes from the maestro.

Amsterdam Dance Event – ADE 2017 Attracts a Record Number of 395,000 Visitors

ade 2017

The 22nd edition of ADE – Amsterdam Dance Event was attended by a record number of 395,000 visitors.

With 7,200 representatives of the worldwide electronic dance music industry attending the conference and people from over 90 countries, ADE has once again cemented its position as the worlds leading platform for electronic music.

This year Morocco was under the spotlight in ADE 2017 Global View, highlighting the regions growing music scene where musicians are mixing local sounds with dance floor beats.

Morocco occupies a unique cultural position: an interface between Africa, Europe and the wider Islamic world, with ancient musical cultures of its own that incorporates deep and rich understanding of dance and repetition. Its modern dance scene is absolutely of the 21st century, though, and whether via young Moroccan producers or via the international festivals that take place in its stunning landscapes, its influence grows year-on-year.

China hosted a special pavilion. It was the first time during ADE a pavilion was built for a country with lectures, forums and debates to present themselves to professionals working in the dance industry. Countries including France and Belgium also took the opportunity to focus extra attention to themselves at this years event.

The development of pavilions of countries, known form Biënnale, will be the next logical step of ADE. During the last 25 years electronic music has grown internationally and mixed with many different genres so It is expected there will be more country pavilions in the future.

More dj’s took part in the ADE 2017 Soundlab, giving an insight into their DJ and Studio set ups including superstar DJs such as Martin Garrix, Richie Hawtin and KiNK, Soulwax and Tiga, Oliver Heldens and many more.

The night program also included some ‘cross overs’ with other genres with special productions at unique locations including Underworld performing at the cycle passage of Rijksmuseum, Jameszoo and the Metropole Orchestra, and Colin Benders at Rembrandthuis.

Different ages were also represented at this years ADE. Martin Garrix 20 years old, who was again voted most popular DJ of the world, hosted an all ages-concert, welcoming teenagers and their parents. Also the free festival Hangover, held for the first time at NDSM in the northern part of Amsterdam, was visited by a lot of families. On the closing night the 80 year old composer Philipp Glass performed at the Melkweg in a sold out show.

Ephwurd Returns with New Release “Phunky Beats”

Ephwurd

After a insane summer and festival season, aces of bass Ephwurd are blazing full steam ahead into fall with the launch of their own record label and its first track release.

‘Eph’d Up Records’ is Datsik and Bais Haus’s latest venture in expanding their popular Ephwurd brand, which they created from a desire to bring original music to their fans faster while staying true to their own sound.

Their first release on Eph’d Up Records is “Phunky Beats” in collaboration with JVST SAY YES, featuring groovy, electro synths juxtaposed by mechanical basslines. The track is a modern, dance-floor friendly take on the notorious vocals “if you really like to rock those funky beats” and will certainly be a staple during the coming months. In a message to fans, Ephwurd expressed their excitement over their new imprint and release on Eph’d Up Records.

“As artists who enjoy a broad range of music going from the most hype tunes to the most chill, we wanted to be able to freely give music to our fans without the time constraints of a label. Sometimes we finish a song and it won’t be months until you, the fans, get to hear what we have been working on and its such a huge bummer.

Eph’d Up Records gives us the freedom to give you folks music when we want and when you deserve it, because life is happening now and it’s not set on some schedule. With that said, we are launching the label with a tune of ours that we’ve been dropping for well over a year now and it always goes off! Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Phunky Beats.

Pretty Lights drops fresh new single, announces NYE dates

Pretty Lights

Producer Derek Vincent Smith has been keeping himself very busy lately.

Following the unfortunate cancellation of his anticipated “Island of Light” festival, Smith has been working around the clock behind the scenes, and now what he’s planning on bringing his fans these next few months are sure to keep all you PL enthusiasts quite pleased.

First things first: Smith, who has earned himself veteran status in the world of electronic music, dropped a stunning new single last week titled “Rainbows & Waterfalls.” This single marks the first release since from Smith since 2016’s “Only Yesterday,” and reels listeners in with a flawless track consisting of Shuggle Otis’s 70’s classic “Strawberry 23” and Smith’s signature, genre bending style. Released alongside this smash mix is a short music video, titled “Letter 22.”

According the description Derek provided for the video, the story behind “Letter 22” is as follows:

“LETTER 22 is a story of the positivity that underscores all movement towards progress and enlightenment, no matter how many obstacles stand in the way.

It is the story of a pure force of will, hidden somewhere out there, that is dedicated to revealing evolutionary truths to this universe in a systematic way. “

While Smith has had a heavy reputation for his innovation as a producer, his unique approach to music is also apparent during his live performances as well. Over the past years Smith, with his Pretty Lights Live project, have made it a priority to give his audiences top notch improvisational shows unlike anything heard before. No show is the same, and each crowd receives a different experience.

That being said, Pretty Lights fans will be happy to know that Smith has also announced a special New Years Run to top off the release of “Rainbows & Waterfalls.”

The four date run will kick off on the 28th at The Fillmore in Detroit Michigan, and will close with a new years eve stop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

David Gravell released his brand new single titled ‘On The Move’

david gravell

Brutal. Ruthless. Annihilating. Like a vicious force, David Gravell ‘s latest track hits the airwaves like an earthquake’s aftershock. A force of nature impossible to contain, “On The Move” propels bodies through the air with its mighty vigor. David Gravell’s “On The Move” (InHarmony Music) is out now.

Straddling the razor’s edge between the sub-genres of classic and contemporary trance music, David Gravell was tapped to pen the third release on Andrew Rayel’s new label inHarmony Music and “On The Move” is every bit as delicious as music-lovers have come to demand.

A blistering kick-drum scorches the air on the intro of the Extended Mix accompanied by lush atmospheric swooshes.

Tension builds as a naked synthesizer lead overtakes the room, preceding an infectious tech-trance motif that serves as the centerpiece of this effervescent aural eruption. Female vocals intone, “I’m controlling your mind,” a repeated refrain that spikes over the topline, adding emphasis to the track with a timeless, disembodied mystique. The Radio Edit of “On The Move” sacrifices nothing by coming to fruition faster and fiercer.

Listen to the track here.
