HI-LO releases new track ‘Brazil’ which he fittingly premiered at Ultra Brazil

Oliver Heldens

Oliver Heldens puts his HI-LO mask on once again, finding the sweet spot between his underground techno passions and his sensibilities for crafting big hooks and memorable dancefloor moments.

Taut filtered kicks punch a hole in the speaker as shuffling hi-hats build an energetic groove, before the sub weight is unleashed and the lead riff snakes its way into focus. The arpeggiated, almost classical nature of this dark melody is immediately infectious and brings a real sense of drama to the proceedings. Its rubbery texture is augmented by rasping swells and offset by laser-like chord stabs that give the track a deeper atmosphere.

A playful plucked melody joins just before the break, where sorrowful chime chords add the final layer of this emotional slab of hard-hitting techno. Brooding bass synths add a sonorous touch as the percussion filters back into life, thrusting us towards the inevitable. The sense of release when those kicks thump into play is palpable, and one more mini-break gives us another taste of that irresistible juxtaposition before the track leads us to its finish point.

HI-LO Brazil

Brazil‘ was, fittingly, premiered in his show-stopping set at Ultra Brazil, receiving huge reactions from his loyal fans, before he headed off to Ultra Peru for another memorable show. Oliver has been very productive under his alias since the beginning of the year, releasing no less than six tracks in four months, ‘Nirvana‘ and ‘Samsara‘ with Reinier Zonneveld, ‘PURA VIDA‘ and ‘TORNADO‘, ‘Arpeggio‘ with Space 92, and ‘Brazil‘.

On top of that, he launched his own techno focused label HILOMATIK, and is a constant resident of Beaport’s Top 10 artist chart. For those who haven’t had a chance to experience HI-LO live, he will be touring the world this summer, with shows at Tomorrowland, elrow, Airbeat One, Weekend Festival, and many more.

OFFSónar

Barcelona’s most important and long-awaited festival for electronic music lovers, artists, and professionals across the world takes place from 15. – 17. June 2023. Sónar Barcelona once again takes over the city celebrating an exciting 30 years of presenting technology, creativity and the most advanced music. Three decades of Sónar as a space for discovery and inspiration, as a platform for several generations of local and international artists, and constant innovation in electronic music and culture will be commemorated.

At Sónar’s sister event, the mood is set to be euphoric, inspired, and vibrant. OFFSónar will transform Poble Espanyol once again into a melting pot overflowing with dance floor energy fed by high-profile performances and the world’s most cutting edge party hosts.

Poble Espanyol is an open-air museum in Barcelona. It is a small replica of a Spanish Village (to which it translates) with over 100 buildings of various different typical Spanish architectural styles from all cultures and regions of Spain, and it lies at the foot of the Montjuïc mountain with views across Barcelona. Within this area OFFSónar spans over three different venues: Plaza Mayor, Monasterio, and Carpa Picnic.

The showcase festival will open with each venue introducing its own individual party hosted by renown labels and party brands to break in each stage. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the stages will share a common host and there will be a single party creating an all-inclusive, immersive experience crossing all three venues.

Kicking off festivities on Thursday 15th June, each venue will feature its own twist brought by the individual promoters. Circoloco will be returning to the Plaza Mayor stage with their own unique vibe uniting ravers from around the globe as known from their destination parties on Ibiza.

10 years after their first ever event, Innervisions affiliated party series Lost in a Moment returns to Monasterio to bring a mystical and intimate feel to the venue where all began. Carpa Picnic provides the perfect setting for UNREAL to unleash their raw energy for the first time in Barcelona. Cologne’s (GER) techno mainstay are known for their carefully curated line ups and attention to detail in venue design creating a truly unreal experience.

On Friday 16th June, Brunch Electronik will be taking over all stages. They are well-versed in Barcelona’s house and techno party scene having gained popularity for 10 years now hosting almost 10,000 attendees every Sunday from Spring to Autumn. On this particular Friday, brunch turns into dessert – having the Brunch crew serving the crème de la crème of the electronic music world.

On Saturday 17th June Diynamic Solomun’s and Adriano Trolio’s imprint – takes the wheel. Diynamic is a constantly evolving underground electronic music label also celebrated for the events they host. Having done label showcases around the world including Amsterdam, Berlin, and Brazil, they are undeniably among the best imprints worldwide. Their takeover of all venues in Poble Espanyol Saturday promises to be fresh, progressive, and vivacious.

For the grand finale on Sunday 18th, elrow is up for the triple takeover. This dance music mainstay does not need much introduction. With their events taking the planet by storm over several decades, OFFSónar leaves the final grand slam in most capable hands. They’ll be closing the whole festival on a euphoric, groovy high and leaving the crowd eager for next year’s Sónar eclipse of Barcelona.
