Chime Delivers Supernatural Color Bass Hit ‘Bring Me Back’

One of the newest genres in the spectrum of electronic music is the riveting sound of “color bass”. This invigorating style of music wasn’t just made by accident one day. It took years of experimentation, production knowledge, and creativity to forge color bass.

A highly-praised veteran in the EDM community, groundbreaking artist Chime is the founder of this exotic sound.

Chime stems from the mind of Harvey Goldfinch, a musical innovator who grew up in the city of Leeds in England. Since the debut of his project, Chime has dropped hypnotic singles on the likes of Never Say Die, Ophelia, Subsidia, Circus, and other industry-leading labels.

Also, he has collaborated with artists such as Flux Pavillion and Doctor P, while gaining support from Virtual Riot and Excision. Launching his own label to boost the growth of experimental sounds like color bass, Rushdown has released tracks by Sharks, Ace Aura, and more.

Showing zero intention of slowing down, Chime has decided to unveil his newest project, “Bring Me Back“. Overflowing with dreamy vocal echoes and an otherworldly bassline, “Bring Me Back” is the perfect single for its signed label of Monstercat.

The festival anthem also incorporates a cataclysmic drop that will incite headbanging amongst its audience. Continuing to shock his followers through unimaginable soundscapes, “Bring Me Back” fuels Chime as he ascends the throne of bass music.

Luciano drops two new remixes for Lulu Gainsbourg on Why Music

It was during one of their many trips that the two artists met for the first time in Amsterdam. The friendly love at first sight was such that the two artists decided a year later to collaborate on a remix project: Lulu2 .

Taken from Lulu Gainsbourg‘s latest album Replay, Luciano gave life to two remixes: Opening Remix and L’enfance Remix.

This architect of sound has so generously shared his knowledge of clubs and his experiences in electronic music, that in spite of his classical training and his studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Lulu Gainsbourg wanted to embark on a new challenge: The planet of electro.

Made with a magical atmosphere and sensational energy, these remixes will take you on a journey to these two different worlds that meet to become one. Indeed, these two great travelers love to express their love for different cultures through their creation.

Between Amsterdam, Switzerland, Ibiza, Chile and the United States, the two artists managed to find each other: they share the same first name and the same deep passion for music. So even if they did not know each other a few years ago, we can be sure that now, with so much in common, the two artists are starting a very beautiful journey together…

Mathame have released their latest single ‘So What’ via Astralwerks

Today Italian-brother duo Mathame have released their latest single ‘So What’ via Astralwerks. The single serves as an exemplar of the dark and voluminous signature sound found at the roots of Mathame‘s sonic core.

Placing eerily distorted vocals over winding synths, ‘So What‘ crescendos into a volume intensity that took months of technical precision to achieve in collaboration with Mathame‘s sound engineer Luca Pretolesi from Studio DMI.

Mathame So What

This type of loudness can rarely be achieved while retaining the crispness and lack of distortion that makes the group’s productions a favorite amongst DJs on the global club circuit.

So What‘ is a stark contrast to their mystically intimate and romantic recent release, ‘Come For You.’ The juxtaposition of the two tracks demonstrates not only the dark and light dichotomy of their sound, but also the brother’s dynamic, with Amedeo being the reserved and brooding yin to Matteo‘s hopeful yang. Skillfully interconnecting their differences, Mathame‘s work also draws influence from different backgrounds, all connected : as classical performers, as electronic musicians and as heavily-touring DJs.

Speaking on ‘So What,’ Mathame said:

“With So What we wanted to achieve the maximum sound pressure and sound stress on every elements of the composition , and maintain an impactful emotion , developing our dynamic tempo expressive signature sound in unknow territories.”

Drawing influence from their lifelong passion for science fiction and anime, Mathame collaborated with Japanese A.I art collective Hokuto Atarashi to create the official music video for ‘So What.’ Echoing his background as an award-winning film director, Matteo co-directed the visually captivating apocalyptic reality utilizing another of his passions, artificial intelligence. Depicting anime-inspired characters that evolve into a riot as they dance through the streets , the video conveys dystopian themes that the duo are known to explore in their work.

Speaking on the ‘So What‘ music video, the director team said:

“This Music Video was made by the unknown A.I art school collective Hokuto Atarashi: “After listening to the record, it was clear the dark and dystopic feeling was at the epicenter of the scene here. We wanted to achieve a high level of dystopian visual street stress. The video tells a story about a riot, an internal revolution between artificial intelligences, the one who wants surveillance, and the one who leads us to creative freedom.

The story evolves from dance to fight in a non conventional timeline. The technique we used turned real footage into dystopian landscape, mechanical android and movie animation characters by models of artificial intelligence animators : this is just the beginning of a real revolution in the arts, just upon us. Soon or later we should speak about Cosmotechnics, or simplifying “how to live in a sustainable ecosystem with those techno-intelligences'”

Mathame have unleashed these tracks on some of the electronic music world’s most coveted stages from Tomorrowland, Miami’s Club Space, Amsterdam’s ADE, EDC Las Vegas, to London’s Fabric.

Carl Cox finally releases his long-awaited new artist album – ‘Electronic Generations’

Carl Cox

Today the legendary Carl Cox finally releases his long-awaited new artist album – ‘Electronic Generations’ his first record in over 10 years.

For anyone lucky enough to be at Carl‘s headline show at Wembley Arena in October they’ll have heard Carl playing the album from start to finish. But for everyone else this will be the first time they can finally listen to ‘Electronic Generations‘ in full – following a string of massive single releases this year, and most recently his ‘Welcome to My World‘ EP.

With over 30 years under his belt as one of the undisputed kings of dance music, Carl Cox has achieved both legendary and cult status. An iconic figure who has worked tirelessly and consistently to advocate for club culture, he has become a global ambassador and hugely influential figure who utilises his position to push the culture forward.

Carl‘s exhaustive list of achievements is incredibly impressive and dates back to the formative years of acid house in the UK. A stalwart and pioneer, he could easily have retired by now such is the breadth of his legacy. Yet, rather than ease back and live off his reputation, Carl is embarking on a new path…

Carl Cox Electronic Generations

This, Carl‘s fifth long-player, is representative of his unwavering passion for the advancement of club culture and his own growth as an artist. A purposeful step out of his comfort zone as an accomplished and innovative DJ and selector, ‘Electronic Generations‘ is the result of his forays into the world of machine-driven live performance.

In Carl’s world, despite his accolades and years in the game, there is no room for complacency. Hard work and new challenges drive his creativity, pushing him to continue striving to contribute to electronic music culture and he’s working harder than ever to keep the spirit of electronic music and techno alive.

A sense of self-fulfillment permeates through his venture into the live domain, it’s where he wants to be; grafting, innovating, pushing beyond the safety of what he knows. Operating right on the edge, taking risks, knowing it could all go wrong in front of thousands of people. Allowing it all to flow, relinquishing control, and being in the moment. Out of this core catalyst comes the real magic, human ingenuity that touches all those who encounter it first-hand.

“I could be complacent and just stick to what I already do but I can’t do that. I have to go out, I have to drag my gear around, I have to set it up, I have to get a soundcheck, I have to make sure that when I do come on, it’s intense. It’s where I should be, where I need to be right now for me to be fulfilled in my position of who I am as a DJ and an artist,” he says.

This is what we hear on ‘Electronic Generations‘, an album that is unapologetic in its upfront, no nonsense sonic identity. Bucking against current trends and what’s considered fashionable, or even palatable, while channelling the raw roots of techno. Out of his live streams, Carl found that several of his improvisations sounded good enough to be extended into full pieces of music.

So that’s what he did; cutting them out of the live recordings, polishing them up and refining them. The result is an uncompromising statement of intent; an album that stands alone as a legacy to Carl’s commitment to dance music and the community and culture around it.

Meet DJ and Producer Nasca from Cafe De Anatolia

Our team had the chance to catch up with the extremely talented DJ and producer Nasca to find out more about his music career.

Check out the full interview below!

Tell us more about yourself & your music career?

Hello my name is Nasca and I am a French electronic music producer. I grew up in Chile and I am now living in Paris. My first contact with electronic music was when i was around 11 when I discovered trance music. And I got into music production back in 2007 after playing on piano for several years.

At the beginning I was recording audio loops with my laptop microphone and then cycling them on Audacity…definitely not the most straightforward way to produce ! (and they will be released one day …)

I released my first track in 2017 on German label Traüm Schallplatten. After this release  I mostly produced tracks in the genre of melodic house & downtempo either published on records labels (Uzons, Traüm, Plaisirs Sonores, Kosa) or by myself.

The “Come With Me” EP is my first release on Cafe De Anatolia. Natalie is a seasoned vocalist, she worked with some big names (Husky, Purple Disco Machine, …) and I am so happy she was directly onboard with the project. For the remix I wanted someone with a different style and with a unique musical signature. I found both in Balancé’s music and he was in already! Also a big thanks to Nickarth and Monika Ilieva from Cafe De Anatolia for all the promo work they put into the release.

How Covid19 changed the terms of the music industry? How did affected you?

Today music industry relies mostly on live venues, so this virus was the worst vicious thing that could happen….Everything was shut down off so fast, revealing how ephemeral and fragile this industry actually is.

For what I observed in Paris, new comers and small players were given the chance to take the lead and stand out. It was some sort of big reset in the musical scene, an example of Schumpeterian creative destruction.

In my personal case, during the lockdown I finally found the time I needed to start working on my Ableton live performance. Also, togehter with my friends we started the Pic du Son, a DIY electronic music microfestival in France.

Are you working on something new? Where and when is your next performance?

In the studio, I am studying generative music (music that generate by itself) and trying to adapt the concept to be able to generate fully arranged songs. Ableton is the best tool for that because compared to other DAW it has a very mathematical approach of music production. Also there are plenty of third parties tools that expand its creative possibilities.

On the live performance side, I am finalizing my Ableton performance set up for 2023. I would like to move further into trance music so I need to readapt everything (set structure, creative blocks, MIDI etc). The more I spend time on it, the more I discover new tools and ideas, possibilities are endless ! So for me having a show deadline is crucial to commit to something and not going backwards….

Finally I also will be organizing the Pic du Son festival 2023. It will be our third edition and we want to stay very small. It is enough to be viable and we want to keep a friendly vibe.

Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?

1. You don’t need fancy hardware to start making music. For me I mostly used mouse & keyboard (learn all the shortcuts though) and a 25 note keyboard. Now, I also have an Ableton Push 2 and Midi Fighter Twister, they’re both very versatile machines.

2. Regularity, minimum 4 to 6 hours per week I would say.

3. Force yourself to release at a regular pace, or everything will stay on your hard drive forever.

4. You can do your own promo, do not rely mainly on the label (if there is one ).
