Above & Beyond unveil another hard-hitting club instrumental: ‘Crash’

Above & Beyond

Celebrating their twentieth anniversary this year, London’s Above & Beyond unveil another hard-hitting club instrumental: ‘Crash’.

Referred to as the ‘20 Years ID’ by tune trainspotters in our label community, ‘Crash’ was one of six Above & Beyond originals heard on their Anjunabeats Volume 15 compilation, which was released in July of this year.

The track was created just as the pandemic took hold, ready for summer festival sets that never eventuated. ‘Crash’ was finally given its long-awaited live debut in the band’s Group Therapy 400 livestream.

The show was recorded on the River Thames, London in late September of this year, just a hop, skip, and a jump from the trio’s recording studio in Bermondsey.

Listen to the track below.

Paul Kalkbrenner, Nina Kraviz and Solomun join EXIT Festival’s 20th Anniversary Line Up

Exit

Sheck Wes, Paul Kalkbrenner, Nina Kraviz, Honey Dijon, Paul van Dyk and Solomun, who will be bringing his special 4-hour set to the celebrations, have confirmed their performances at EXIT Festival’s 20th anniversary!

A long list of world and regional stars have already confirmed their performances, including David Guetta, DJ Snake, Tyga, Eric Prydz b2b Four Tet, Boris Brejcha, Sepultura, Metronomy, Marky Ramone, Laibach and many more.

The central event, marking the two decades of the two-time European festival awards champion, will take place in its famous full format, from 8th to 11th July at the Petrovaradin Fortress, with a lineup that inspired 82% of fans to show their love for the EXIT Festival by keeping their 2020 tickets for the next summer.

Says Dusan Kovacevic, Founder & CEO, EXIT:

EXIT has always had a huge number of loyal fans, but we were overwhelmed by the very high percentage of those who decided to keep the ticket for the big celebration of the 20th anniversary of the festival next year. We are hugely grateful to the audience for love and support and this also gives us confidence to keep on booking new acts and create an awesome line-up for the 2021 edition and give fans something to look forward to.

Along with the above mentioned headliners, 999999999 live, Juliana Huxtable, Francois X, Onyvaa live, Bokee, Monosaccharide, as well as VTSS b2b SPFDJ, will be arriving to the Fortress next summer to perform on the three biggest stages at EXIT – the Main Stage, the Dance Arena and the No Sleep Novi Sad.

The new group of performers for EXIT 2021 is led by exciting key players of the world electronic and trap scene. The young New York rapper Sheck Wes, whose “Mo Bamba” is considered one of the biggest hip-hop hits of the last few years, will be arriving to Serbia for the first time. Sheck‘s talent was recognized by Travis Scott and Kanye West, who signed his releases, and he already has collaborations with hip hop stars like DJ Snake, 21 Savage, Lil Pump, Offset and Gucci Mane.

Honey Dijon, born and raised in Chicago, the home of house music, which is deeply rooted in her style, will also be performing for the first time at the Festival’s 20th anniversary celebration. After numerous performances in some of the most famous clubs around the world, this exceptional musician, producer, fashion icon and activist will be bringing her unique sound to the Petrovaradin Fortress.

She will be joined by Nina Kraviz, the techno girl who has, on several occasions, closed the EXIT Festival and the famous mts Dance Arena and who recently had the unique opportunity to record a live set on top of Mount Olympus in Greece, which is available on her online platforms.

Paul Kalkbrenner, whose 2019 EXIT set was voted one of the best from that summer, has also confirmed his arrival. His biggest hit, “Sky and Sand”, has spent as many as 129 weeks on the German charts, and thus found itself at the top of the official chart of the Day of the German Unity, which included hits from the previous 30 years. On his European solo tour in 2019, Kalkbrenner sold more than 100,000 tickets, which brought him closer to the status enjoyed by the rock stars.

Solomun, another EXIT veteran and favorite of EXIT Festival’s fans, will be bringing a 4-hour set to Novi Sad next summer, which will surely include songs from his new album, which is set to be published at the beginning of 2021. The introduction to his new release is an excellent single titled “HOME”, with which he wanted to draw attention to the power of music and how necessary it is for it to return to the clubs and spaces that are considered its home, so that we can experience music in the right way.

Paul Van Dyk multiple winner of the best DJ in the world award and a Grammy Award winner, who recently performed virtually at Exit‘s Life Stream event, will perform live at the Fortress next July and present his latest album called “Guiding Light”.

The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the EXIT Festival will be held from July 8th to 11th, 2021 at the Petrovaradin Fortress, with performances by David Guetta, DJ Snake, Tyga, Eric Prydz, Paul Kalkbrenner, Nina Kraviz, Boris Brejcha, Four Tet, Sheck Wes, Solomun, Sepultura, Metronomy, Dax J, Kobosil, Denis Sulta, Honey Dijon, Laibach, Juliana Huxtable, Francois X, 999999999 live, Onyvaa, Monosaccharide, Bokee, VTSS, SPFDJ, Marko Nastić, After Affair, Kristijan Molnar, Bokee, Coeus, Goblini, Ilija Djoković, Lag, Insolate, Layzie, Massimo, Reblok, Runy, Space Motion and Thundermother.

All tickets purchased for EXIT 2.0 (50% off compared to the 2021 final price) are also valid for the 2021 edition. Those 82% who decided to keep their 2020 tickets will even have the chance to win some cool prizes: a Lifetime ticket for EXIT, a stage pass for the mts Dance Arena, VIP upgrade of a regular ticket, EXIT fashion packages and T-shirts. And the ones out of luck will also get their consolation: a 20% discount on EXIT T-shirts and souvenirs of their choice.

EPIZODE5 festival has rescheduled its fifth anniversary celebration

EPIZODE5 has rescheduled its fifth anniversary celebration on Vietnam’s blissful Phu Quoc island, which will be held from December 29th 2021 to January 9th 2022.

The 11-day cutting-edge festival will retain all names from its star-studded lineup featuring electronic music legends such as RICARDO VILLALOBOS, JAMIE JONES, LOCO DICE, DEBORAH DE LUCA, DUBFIRE, [A:RPIA:R], APOLLONIA, NASTIA, SONJA MOONEAR and MR.C, to name a few.

They will be playing alongside the greatest Europe and Asia’s talents including FIDELES, VLADA, MICKEY ZHANG, LOUISE CHEN, OUISSAM, ROUSTAM, SUNJU HARGUN and YAYA.

All these artists will bring their grooves to Epizode‘s iconic beach dotted by mind-blowing stages and art installations, for an unforgettable NYE extravaganza. Additionally, Epizode‘s 24hr program will present exciting wellness experiences and plethora of day activities, all wrapped into colorful sunsets and tropical landscapes.

All ticket holders have received one additional Multi Pass on their accounts, free of charge. They can choose to keep these tickets as they will remain valid for the next year, or to get a full refund deducted for a 5% transaction fee, anytime before EPIZODE5.

After careful consideration of all global factors, we have made a difficult decision to reschedule EPIZODE5 to 2021. We got the official license from the Vietnam authorities to hold Epizode this year and with the health and safety as a top priority, we were ready to implement all official guidelines and recommendations.

Unfortunately, as the travel tendencies in Vietnam and the rest of the world are still unstable, and the borders opening and arrival conditions are uncertain, we decided to move our fifth anniversary while retaining the lineup. We’ll be announcing the next round of lineup, and much more activities soon. We’re looking forward to welcoming back all our guests from 90 countries, to celebrate with us in style“, said Epizode management.

In a short span of four years, EPIZODE has made an impressive mark internationally by pushing the Asia-Pacific music scene forward. With the vision to unite people from around the globe, the festival has become a top destination to ring in the New Year, gathering music enthusiasts, art lovers, experiential seekers and music industry professionals together. Sunset Sanato beach in Phú Quốc offers an immersive festival experience, surrounded by lush jungles, heavenly food, and awesome people.

The BPM Festival invites fans to their own private oasis, one which is designed for dancing, despite uncertain times. Planning large scale events amid ever-changing protocols and guidelines is no easy task, however, all transformative experiences require careful curation to truly make an impact. Hyenah is welcomed to the revered Watergate compilation series

Shrouded in mystery and a long-standing affiliate of the Berlin institute Watergate, Afro House champion Hyenah is welcomed to the revered Watergate compilation series.

On a mission to unite people through music, the mix is abundant in groove-filled, percussion-heavy sounds that Hyenah is famed for. Released on 19th October, the compilation features exclusive music from; Hyenah, Henrik Schwarz, Kerri Chandler, Pablo Fierro, Adana Twins, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Da Capo, Floyd Lavine, Super Flu and more.

The compilation will only be available in a mixed format but following on from the release, all of the 100% exclusive tracks will be released as three individual EP’s (digital and vinyl). Hyenah is an artist who puts music above all else. Choosing to DJ in a mask as to not reveal his identity, Hyenah dedicates the experience formulated through the music he creates to the receiving audience.

Striving to create magical moments through the diversity reflected from the people in electronic music, his work is a beacon of hope, tackling issues of racism and offering a vision of unity. Following select releases on Freerange, Objektivity, Rise and a 12“ for Watergate Records, Hyenah delivers this transcendent edition of the Watergate mix series.

Here’s what Hyenah had to say about the mix:

When creating this mix I wanted to take people on a journey that represents what I do and what I stand for. I am building bridges. So I wanted to create a mix that does exactly that.

For me the beauty in music is when different styles and cultures meet and become something new. I like the backbone to be grooves rooted in African rhythms. These grooves grow in different directions. I wanted to combine all of them in a mix that tells its own story, that evolves and explores the diverse branches of the music I love so much.”

Hyenah Watergate 27 commences with Warm Drum, Hyenah introducing the mix with an epic opener, burning synths signal the intensity of the journey ahead. Lemon & Herb’s iFuh sees tribal calls and driving hi-hats build the tension. A mystical atmosphere is formed on Reincarnation by Pablo Fierro as chants call out. Huge waves of colourful melodic house are featured from Fka Mash, Sascha Braemer, Sabb & Black Circle and AMEME, offering different shades of light and dark.

Not just a mix alone, deep thought is provoked throughout the listen. This is displayed on the vocals during The Kollektiv Turmstrasse Remix of Adana Twins Jupiter before being taken into Da Capo’s melancholic strings. Hyenah’s Not Enough carries a powerful message from the unmistakable and authentic Lazarusman, who stresses the importance on the listener of becoming “anti-racist”, to be an activist and to look from within to fight racism on a global scale.

Hyenah describes how music is critical in the delivery of this, “diversity in music becomes a political statement: It brings artists, cultures and people together. There is no better messenger than music.

Transitioning into the second half of the mix, a cinematic soundscape comes from JAMIIE & Niko Schwind. The Floyd Lavine remix of Think of Something sees a rhythmic stamp on Kerri Chandler’s original deep house Watergate production.

Infectious groove is created by Hyenah & Floyd Lavine and FMX Omar, before more superior dancefloor energy from Super Flu. Closing with emotion and tenderness, the productions of Manoo and Emanuel Satie & Nanghiti will find a place in both hearts and minds.

The eclectic Henrik Schwarz brings the curtain down with his remix of Hyenah’s The Message, a rousing finale featuring the vocals of Bajka typifies the sense of unity that is the golden thread running through this mix.

The Watergate mix series has been an outlet for the illustrious Berlin club to join forces with artists who it holds its closest relationships with. Starting over ten years ago in 2008, the series has gone on to release outstanding and eclectic mixes from the likes of Butch, Adana Twins, Tiefschwarz, Solomun, Kerri Chandler and many more. Giving fans a chance to taste the atmosphere of the club at home, number 27 from Hyenah is another remarkable chapter in the tale so far.
