dystopia

Sven Väth’s legendary COCOON IBIZA party is delighted to announce that their Ibiza summer will begin with a one-off special event at Ushuaïa on the 25th May 2019.

When COCOON arrived on Ibiza in 1999, the sound of the island was incredibly different. It took several years of Väth and his team’s dedication to underground house and techno before people started to understand and appreciate these uncompromising styles. Along the way, the party helped make superstars and grew to become the most popular night on the island.

All the while, ‘Papa Sven’ has esided over the proceedings, breaking countless records, playing hundreds of breathtaking sets (including many legendary afterparties) and sticking firm to his musical beliefs while trends came and went. He and his huge COCOON family who have enabled him to realise his vision have truly transformed the musical landscape of Ibiza forever.

Sven Väth will honour the 20th Anniversary of COCOON at Ushuaïa Ibiza with a legendary set of acts soon to be announced.

WATCH: “The Last Dance” film explores history of MDMA safety at Electric Daisy Carnival

THE LAST DANCE is streaming free on Vimeo and YouTube. This feature-length documentary highlights one of the most critical periods of the electronic music and harm reduction movements in the United States.

Over the past decade, electornic dance music has erupted into a global industry where its artists rank as top grossing entertainers and attract live audiences the size of cities. While MDMA – aka “Ecstasy” or “Molly” – has remained the number one party favor for participants, the culture continues to struggle with MDMA and other drug-related fatalities in cities such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, New York, Chattahoochee Hills (Georgia), Boston, and Washington, D.C.

How have agencies and bureaucracies responded to these issues? Do local communities value the presence of large-scale dance massives? To address substance use at EDM clubs and festivals, are authorities willing to try new and unprecedented strategies?

THE LAST DANCE captures one of the most influential events in the recent history of America’s dance scene, taking you from the height of MDMA consumption at the end of the 1990s to the federal passage of the R.A.V.E. Act, and culminating in a weekend in June of 2010 surrounding Electric Daisy Carnival at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. With a reported total attendance of 185,000 fans at the stadium grounds next to Univ. of Southern California, what started as a two-day celebration of DJs and late-night beats ended in an explosion of headlines describing chaos, disaster, and tragedy.

On every local paper, TV channel, and radio station, parents were warned of overdoses, violent crowds, and ultimately the death of a 15-year-old girl who had allegedly taken MDMA.

The news shocked Los Angeles and served as the first case in the U.S. in which a minor died as a result of collapsing at a commercial EDM gathering. Almost overnight, it became the most publicized rave-related mortality of the post-R.A.V.E. Act era. The relationship that the Coliseum had been building with Insomniac, Inc. – the company behind EDC – and other dance event organizers since 1997 was now in jeopardy.

The controversy reignited a national debate on the dangers of raves, and initially introduced the familiar question of whether these gatherings should just be stopped altogether. However, EDC 2010 would eventually prove to offer a different type of discussion and reveal that the stakes at hand were far more complex than a matter of banning vs. not banning the parties.

Rather than employ a police crackdown – which is what nearly every local government had done in the past – Los Angeles made a set of moves that had never before been seen in this country. The ground-breaking response from L.A. County implicated 2010 as a turning point for electronic music massives within mainstream society, and signified an institutional shift beyond the traditional criminal justice approach towards drug policy.

THE LAST DANCE is about the end of an era which brought forth new beginnings. It is the true-life tale of a web on the brink of implosion. An insider’s view of a network of ravers, promoters, DJs, journalists, doctors, and politicians during the summer and fall of 2010. It is the story of everything that was done to stop events such as Electric Daisy Carnival at the Coliseum. And a story of everything that Los Angeles did to fight back.

Ovandra team up for their brand new LP “Retrofuture”

Super-talented French producers Amandra and Ovend aka Ovandra team up for an amazing brand new LP titled “Retrofuture”on their joint label Ahrpe.

Since the beginning of the label, the two minds behind Ahrpe Records knew they would work together at some point, but things often take time. Away from Ahrpe, Ovend’s productions so far have found a home on Tale Of Us’ well-recognized techno label Afterlife, whilst Amandra has appeared on the likes of Semantica and Tikita.

Now, following two weeks spent in Amandra’s studio in Warsaw, the pair’s styles merge seamlessly into a well-balanced, stirring sound that blurs the lines between techno and trance.

ovandra retrofuture
Ovandra – Retrofuture LP

The opener ‘Dolphin’ sets the tone. Amandra’s infinitely-evolving grooves roll with restrained percussion and subtle developments, Ovend’s trancey synth lines snake in-and-out. The tracks that follow offer variations on a focused theme; there’s acid murmurs and driving beats in the more introspective, voodoo techno cuts ‘Souvenir Souvenir’ or ‘Wet Sahara’, and dreamy melodies on the title track.

Without ever leaning too heavily on nostalgia, the record’s bright harmonics evoke the euphoria of the European clubbing heyday. ‘Retrofuture’ emits an energy that exceeds its measured tempo, a blend of modern and vintage ideas. ‘Golden Vanilla’ provides an epic high towards the end, where a synth lead glows like a ray of light through the hazy atmosphere.

A pair of breathtaking beatless pieces complete a coherent and fresh LP which looks to stand the test of time and offer DJs something different.

Digital release date: March 29, 2019

Tomorrowland Winter releases its official Trailer and Festival Map [VIDEO]

tomorrowland winter the hymn of the frozen lotus

Tomorrowland seems like it is a fairy tale, but it, in fact, is a real-life adventure. It is one entity that can expand the globe and captivate the hearts of the world through music, love, and dance.

While the original epic event that has taken place in Belgium every year since 2004, a first-edition wintertime rendition called “The Hymn of the Frozen Lotus”, that is set to take place in the stunning setting of the Alpe d’ Huez, in France, is taking a stance as a contender to overtake its own crown to become the most epic music event in the history of the world.

As the majestical Tomorrowland continues its global outstretch, the rest of the world patiently awaits its arrival. March 9-16 is the date that has been revealed for the next level Tomorrowland event which requires ski lifts to access the stages.

Party people, this our calling, we are taking over the world. They have officially announced that “People of Tomorrow, the prophecy of the Frozen Lotus has foretold that the doors to a magical realm will be opened. Revealing all the wonders winter has to offer. This unique flower will call on every creature in her kingdom to unite and take part in a new tale in the history of Tomorrowland. Winter has been awakened by the Hymn of the Frozen Lotus”.

The winter version of Tomorrowland will have stages split upon different peaks of the mountains. The stages will operate at different times and will vary according to altitude. Stages that are at greater heights than the main stage will start and finish accordingly, everybody will have to take the ski lifts to maneuver between stage settings.  Attendees can select either the Mysterious 7-day package or the Fascinating 4-day Package, each includes a festival ticket, lift, and ski pass, and lodging options.

HERE you can check the official map for Tomorrowland Winter “The Hymn of the Frozen Lotus”.

With the magic that is going to spill out of the event, those that get to experience this event are going to make history. A week-long rave, essentially on a ski resort in France, words can not sum up the magnitude of what is about to go down in the French Alps. Tomorrowland on a regular day is already the cat’s meow, add to it a ski resort setting, and there you have a recipe for a fable.

Seriously, the line-up is irrelevant, but it is stacked anyways, that includes the likes of Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Joris Voorn and many more. Mind-blowing progression from the mighty Tomorrowland. Wow. Just wow. Only wow.

This movement that is the rave culture is helping humanity grow in a positive direction, Tomorrowland is a big reason for that. We should all pause and take a moment to understand just how big this thing is getting. If possible, do not miss this event. Take a part in history. Witness firsthand the collective consciousness elevate to the next level.

Armin van Buuren encourages singles with atypical Valentine’s Day song: ‘Lonely For You’

Especially after a love-scented day as Valentine’s Day, it’s important not to forget that everyone deserves a bit of love.

So, to warm the hearts of not only couples, but also of everyone still looking to find that special someone, Armin van Buuren has unleashed a brand-new single – and accompanying music video – that no amount of lit candles and rose petals can compete with: Lonely For You (feat. Bonnie McKee).

An atypical love song so many people can draw strength from, Armin van Buuren‘s ‘Lonely For You’ is empowering in its own unique way. Featuring Bonnie McKee‘s dynamic and emotional vocals that blend superbly with the mash of poppy chords and drum and bass-inspired rhythms, this track puts Armin van Buuren’s experimental side in the limelight in the best possible way.

Here’s what they had to say about the track:

Armin van Buuren: “‘Lonely For You’ was written with the lovely Bonnie McKee. For me, it resembles the struggles we all face with and in relationships, ups and downs. I think it was appropriate to release it around Valentine’s Day!”

Bonnie McKee: “Lonely For You’ is a song about recovering from losing someone, picking up the pieces and putting one foot in front of the other to move on from them – almost. Sometimes, we are able to logically talk ourselves out of loving someone, and even feel relieved that they’re gone…but in the lonely hours of darkness in the still of the night, those feelings can creep up from the shadows and suck us back into the trap of missing that someone, even if we know they’re not right for us.”

American singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee is no stranger to the upper reaches of the music industry. Throughout her blossoming career, she has (co-)written songs for global superstars such as Katy Perry (‘Part Of Me’, ‘Wide Awake’, ‘California Girls’, Teenage Dream’ and ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’), Taio Cruz (‘Dynamite’), Britney Spears (‘Hold It Against Me’), Elliot Yamin, Rita Ora, Ke$ha, Cheryl, Adam Lambert and Rusko.

Now, she teams up with none other than Grammy-nominated, five-time #1 DJ in the world Armin van Buuren for a wonderful single that’s bound to ignite a fiery passion in listeners worldwide.
