Burning Man bans ‘Billionaire Camp’, rejects Rich and Superficial Culture

After a serious amount of complaints following last year’s edition of Burning Man, CEO Marian Goodell vows to make changes.

In an effort to keep the simplistic and natural culture of Burning Man, the “Billionaire Camp” has officially been banned. After seeing what the rich and famous did to Fyre Festival, this seems to be a last ditch effort to keep Burning Man from evolving into a reality TV show.

“One of the most distressing trends is the increase of participants who don’t seem invested in co-creating Black Rock City, and are attending as consumers.”

“Mass consumption in our default world, ticket scarcity and some elaborate luxury camps have contributed to the rise of a playa “convenience culture.” In some cases, camps or companies are offering “all inclusive” pre-packaged Burning Man experiences, claiming they will preemptively meet all of their client’s needs.”

“Burning Man is anything but convenient, and therein lies its transformative potential!”

Following last year’s gathering in Black Rock City, Burning Man recorded numerous complaints regarding the negative and immature cultural. One of the most alarming themes that emerged was false promising’s and a superficial setting.

Seems like Burning Man is taking a stand to prevent a mainstream culture.

tomorrowland winter the hymn of the frozen lotus

In the photos, a few massive structures are beginning to take form in the Alpe d-Huez, which is the ski resort hosting the massive festival. In the pictures you can see an iron globe like structure that features the world’s countries with the official Tomorrowland logo suspended.

The first ever Tomorrowland Winter lineup will host huge talents such as Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Nervo, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix and many more.

Galantis Returns to Shaky Beats to join Martin Garrix, Big Gigantic, and Rufus Du Sol

Since its beginning, the Atlanta based electronic dance music festival, Shaky Beats, has been one of the best non-camping music festivals in the country. Where the festival seems to largely bypass the radar of the national electronic dance music fanbase, people need to be aware that Shaky Beats should be on the priority list for dancing machines to attend during their festival hopping adventures this season.

Shaky Beats inaugural year was 2016, and musically speaking, it was one of the most memorable experiences imaginable. Porter Robinson, Duke Dumont, Yellow Claw Zhu, Big Gigantic, Major Lazer, Jai Wolf, and an unforgettable Odesza performance, where the Atlanta Falcon’s Drum Line came on stage to join them, all blew everyone’s mind.

The in-city setting was glorious, and attendees were just non-stop dancing the whole time on all three days, the crowd was full of love and positivity, and anybody that was there is sure to have the experience etched into their being forevermore.

With a hard to top first year, the following year in 2017 was going to need some help matching such a phenomenal prior event. Shaky Beats delivered once again. With a very similar atmosphere and setting, the results in terms of top-tier music festival experience were unwavering, Shaky Beats killed it. Headliners Griz, RL Grime, Bonobo (live), Kaskade, Flosstradamus, Galantis, Zeds Dead, Girl Talk, and arguably the best DJ set ever to date by The Chainsmokers were all next level music experiences.

If there were any doubters left that Shaky Beats was not one of the best music festivals to attend for music purposes, 2018 put them to ease with knowing that it is, in fact, a musically dominating festival. They know exactly what it takes to move a crowd.

The festival did change locations from Centennial Olympic Park in 2018, across town to Central Park, which has become the festivals new home. The move spread out the festival grounds significantly and opened up the stage areas. The new location also gave attendees plenty of trees for shade and chill spots. Headliners and next level performances at the 2018 event were Kygo, Marshmello, Zedd, Excision, Dillon Francis, Seven Lions, San Holo and Borgore.

While the festival did shed the Sunday portion of the event for the 2019 rendition, it did not take away any potency from the lineup. An eclectic and top tier lineup is going to help them continue their reign as rulers of the heady music festival realm. This year headliners Martin Garrix, Rufus Du Sol, Big Gigantic, Fisher, San Holo, and Gryffin all lead an exalted support system that is going to combine to unleash an unforgettable music festival experience.

A recent release from Shaky Beats on Monday announced that Galantis would be added to the list of performing artists, and make a second appearance to the festival. Shaky Beats should be on the radar as an event that can not be missed. We will see everybody there. The Lineup by day will be dropping soon, stay tuned for more information.

Ben Nicky and Mark Sixma join forces on colossal mainstage bulldozer: ‘The Bass’

ben nicky

Considering their differences in terms of sound and fan base, it’s no wonder Ben Nicky and Mark Sixma’s team-up might come as a surprise. But when they do join forces, you can be sure that there’s something big coming your way.

Today, both heavy hitters deliver on that promise by coming up with a gargantuan speaker buster made to crush mainstages and souls alike: ‘The Bass’.

Drawing inspiration from electronic music’s harder styles, Ben Nicky and Mark Sixma link up for a sonic bulldozer of epic proportions that came to fruition toward the end of 2018. Alternating between aggressive synths and soft flute tones to create a supercharged contrast meant for the mainstage, this monster cut truly is all about ‘The Bass’ and the madness it brings.

Here’s what the guys had to say about their new collaboration:

Ben Nicky“I remixed Mark’s track ‘Restless Hearts’ a few years ago now, so the natural progression was to make a track together. We had a few different names for the track initially, but as soon as ‘The Bass’ was mentioned, we both knew that was it, simple and to the point as there’s no denying the bass in this track! We both have very different fan bases, yet both have been very receptive to the track so far, so it’s definitely crossing genres for both of us. I play everything from 128-180BPM during my sets at the moment, so ‘The Bass’ fits perfectly in my live shows. We both know this is going to be a banger throughout 2019 and it was great fun making this track together, so there may be more from the both of us in the future.”

Mark Sixma“Ben and I had been talking about doing a collab for ages. We wanted to create something that combined both our styles and could fit in both of our live sets. With ‘The Bass’, we found that common ground by bringing back that oldschool rave sound and incorporating sounds ranging from big room to hardstyle. I have been playing it a lot and the reaction of the people is exactly what we were looking for. It sets firm grounds for a lot more collaborative work with Ben coming forward; the versatility of sounds in both our sets and productions turns out to be a good mixture for what will be 2019’s rave.”

This is Above & Beyond at their rawest, channelling the vitality of classic trance instrumentation into a track that manages to simultaneously be brutish and beautiful. Debuted during the band’s sold out Group Therapy 300 celebrations in Hong Kong, an attuned listener might hear a nod to the sounds of the Far East in the breakdown.

Featuring both ‘Original’ and ‘Club’ mixes of three tracks that were part of the journey towards ‘Common Ground’, the band’s 2018 album which debuted at Number 3 in Billboard’s Album Chart last February. Above & Beyond’s ‘Common Ground Companion EP’ includes ‘Flying By Candlelight’ (feat. Marty Longstaff), ‘There’s Only You’ (feat. Zoë Johnston) and ‘Distorted Truth’.
