Hot Since 82 releases the second single ‘Bloodlines’ taken from his forthcoming 8-track album project

Hot Since 82 japan

Hot Since 82 releases the second single taken from his forthcoming 8-track album project. “Bloodlines” follows Buggin’ which took the summer by storm and is the perfect club record to soundtrack the transition from sunny festivals to dance floors across Europe on cold winter ghts.

“Bloodlines” is the next taste of Hot Since 82‘s recently announced album project on Knee Deep In Sound. Above all, the 8-track concept provides the artist a blank canvas, widening the musical scope to allow greater creative exploration without the confinements of an EP. Hot Since 82‘s 8-track is expected to be released in March of 2019.

The release of “Bloodlines” comes a month after Hot Since 82‘s wrapped up his second Ibiza season at Pacha.

In addition to the Labyrinth, Hot Since 82 has enjoyed a summer of highlights including a massive takeover of The Shrine in Los Angeles, an incredible Knee Deep In Sound show in Queens, New York as well as appearances at Kappa Futur Festival, Circoloco (DC10) and Creamfields.

Ellen Allien releases a remix EP of ‘Take A Stand’ on her BPitch Control imprint

Ellen Allien

“Take A Stand”, Ellen Allien’s first release outside her own BPitch, is a focused yet gritty techno banger made for either getting lost in solitary ecstasy at a basement rave or finding unity on the floor of an abandoned power plant.

It is a love letter to what has been and could be, but also a call to action with the future in mind. As a track and as a political statement, “Take A Stand” is ambivalent – and as such demands to be interpreted. With the “Take A Stand Remixes” EP for BPitch Berlin, four of dance music’s finest contemporary producers do exactly that in their own respective musical languages.

Kobosil’s rework unites the young Berghain resident’s interest for both euphoric rave music and industrial brutalism in one track: He turns Ellen Allien’s shouted slogan into a disembodied curse that haunts this lysergic peak time banger, which itself transforms Ellen Allien’s appeal for insurrection into a psychedelic mind trip. It’s rough and dark take on the original that not only channels but potentiates its energy.

The Berlin-based Romanian Cosmin TRG, known for his stylistic versatility and unusual approach to techno, gives the piece another unexpected turn. His take on “Take A Stand” harkens back to the classic acid techno sound while at the same time highlighting the moody, atmospheric qualities of the original. Out of the four remixes, Cosmin TRG’s synth-driven contribution is probably the one that radiates the most pessimism, making it feel even more urgent.

The B-side is opened by none other than the windy city’s Keith Alexander Shelby, here under his K’ Alexi Shelby moniker. Known for his solo work as well as his collaborations with the Chicago aristocracy from Felix da Housecat to Larry Heard and Robert Owens, Shelby’s rough rendition of “Take A Stand” serves as proof that house and techno were once but two sides of the same coin: in a little under eight minutes, he distills the sheer ecstasy that once united the two genres into one thundering dancefloor anthem.

A hard-hitting yet playful tune in true Chicago tradition, it skillfully combines looped vocal bits with a driving bassline and clattering percussion. Ron Hardy would have jacked to it, and he would have jacked hard.

Jonas Kopp in the meanwhile reimagines ”Take A Stand” with his trademark precision. The Berlin-based Argentinian producer and DJ draws on the nervous energy of the track and turns it into a hyper-focused belter whose rattling percussion converts the explosiveness of the original into a highly hypnotic marching rhythm.

After all, it is not his revolution if you cannot dance (yourself into a trance) to it. It’s a perfect coda for this versatile remix package that both highlights and amplifies the original’s unrestrained power.

18 yr-old girl, died after taking ‘double-strength’ Ecstasy pills at music festival

music festival

An 18 year old girl who took two ‘double-strength’ ecstasy tablets at a major music festival near Portsmouth died after fitting for 50 minutes, an inquest has heard.

The 18-year-old Georgia Jones and Tommy Cowan, 20, both died after taking drugs at the Mutiny music festival on May 26.

Georgia Jones told friends she’d taken two ecstasy tablets, with a bag of MDMA powder found in her bag. But she did not know they were double strength, and she later collapsed and began fitting before she died in hospital.

Det Con Lewry said: “Georgia took two tablets not knowing they were double strength. It’s likely the strength of the drugs she had taken were too strong for her body to handle.”

She added that the festival, which cancelled the second day of the event, had been criticised for not carrying out enough security checks but she said a number of unused condoms were found in the toilets suggesting drugs had been smuggled on to the site in people’s bodies and ‘would not have been found by the security’.

Julian Jeweil announces debut LP ‘Transmission’ via Adam Beyer’s Drumcode Records

Julian Jeweil

Over the past decade, Julian Jeweil has risen to become one of one of electronic music’s most respected artists and synonymous with cutting-edge melodic techno.

Throughout his career, the Marseille-based artist has garnered numerous accolades and achievements including releasing on esteemed imprints such as Cocoon, M-nus and Plus 8, being Beatport’s #1 top selling techno artist (2015), remixing the likes of Moby, Deadmau5, Dubfire & Oliver Huntemann and Pan-Pot and performing at some of the world’s best clubs/events such as Fabric (UK), Womb (JP), D-Edge (BR), Drumcode OFF Week 2018 (ES), Drumcode Festival (NL), BPM Festival (PT) and Resistance (MX).

With the accumulation of all of this success and experience, the time has now come for the talented Frenchman to continue his burgeoning relationship with Drumcode by following on from his well-received debut ‘Rolling’ EP (2017) and ‘Space’ EP (2017) with his much-awaited debut long-player, Transmission – comprising of 11 stellar tracks inspired by Jeweil’s ambition to produce an album for the dancefloor that would fully represent him without setting any limitations or boundaries.

The alluring space-themed LP commences with the exquisite synth-laden beatless composition ‘Intro’ which is closely followed by one of the album’s darker standout moments, the stomping peak-time title track ‘Transmission’. Elsewhere, there’s further dancefloor weaponry such as the pulsating synth-driven roller ‘Mars’, the edgy groove-based ‘Hyoid’ and the trippy acid-tinged ‘Turbulence’.

Other highlights include, ‘Planet X’ which showcases Jeweil’s mastery of atmosphere, serving as an ambient downbeat interlude when placed between the pounding Berghain-esque workouts such as ‘Internal’ and ‘Futura’. The album continues into its final triptych with ‘Astral’ and ‘Dorsal’, 2 powerful bass heavy masterpieces, concluding with the aptly named emotional soundscape ‘Final’ to round off a superb debut long-player that’s well worth the wait.

Here’s what Julian Jeweil had to say about Transmission:

“With Transmission I wanted to produce an album which would represent me a hundred percent, without limiting myself or setting boundaries. It was important for me to make an LP where every single track could be used in a mix as well as listened to at home. The album’s concept was simple: Transmission tells a story; my techno story”

Julian Jeweil will be releasing his much-awaited debut LP Transmission via Adam Beyer’s revered Drumcode Records on 7th January 2019.

Factory 93 presents Jamie Jones B2B The Martinez Bros 7-Hr, Open-To-Close Set

Three of underground house music’s brightest shining talents, Jamie Jones and The Martinez Brothers, come together for a unique open-to-close, seven-hour B2B performance, presented by Factory 93, at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday, Dec. 29.

Jamie Jones and The Martinez Brothers are old souls with young hearts, who have done as much to shape the landscape of modern dance music culture as anyone.

Though all three are renowned for pushing dance music forward, via Jones’ labels Hot Creations and Paradise, and The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin Headz, the artists are also classicists, deeply rooted in the history of their culture, who came of age on the dancefloor as teenagers or even earlier. That depth of knowledge and understanding of context are undoubtedly some of the qualities that make them so exciting to watch as DJs.

It’s been some time since both have made appearances in Los Angeles, as a packed schedule in Ibiza—where they both hold residencies at the hugely influential DC10—has kept them away. But December promises to be a singular return to a city that Jones calls a second home.

Their last appearance in California, an impromptu extended sunrise session at Burning Man earlier this year, has become the stuff of Playa legend for those lucky enough to stumble across it, and an indicator of the magic that happens when these guys share the decks together.

Jamie Jones cut his teeth in the UK club scene, leaving a small town in Wales to spend years honing his craft in Ibiza and London before breaking through on Damian Lazarus’ hugely influential Crosstown Rebels label. He has championed a warmer, melodic take on house and techno, as evidenced on his Hot Creations imprint, his live band project Hot Natured, and his eclectic globe-trotting Paradise party, which celebrated its seventh season in Ibiza this summer.

The Martinez Brothers are intertwined with the dancefloors of New York. They grew up playing percussion in their father’s church in the Bronx before taking up DJing. As teenagers they were profiled by The New York Times and taken under the wing of NYC’s house scene. The city is never far from them, and they continue to champion its underground producers and artists through their Cutting Headz’ label.

But the Brothers’ popularity has expanded far beyond the five boroughs, and seen them become two of the most in-demand DJs across the world. They have continued as residents at Ibiza’s legendary Circo Loco party, where they met Ricardo Tisci, who asked them to become Givenchy’s runway DJs and sound designers, the first of several forays from Chris and Steve into fashion and visual arts.

Factory 93 produces underground dance music events in and around Los Angeles. Most recently they produced Secret Project in LA’s Chinatown, featuring Carl Cox, Peggy Gou, Dixon, Ame, Motor City Drum Ensemble and many more.
