NERVO raise child labour awareness with ‘Is Someone Looking For Me’

Globally renowned duo NERVO use their boundless platform to address the systematic problem of child slave labour, teaming up with children’s charity Hopeland to campaign against the issue with bold and authentic single Is Someone Looking For Me (feat. Ace Paloma) via Spinnin’ Records.

Initially premiered earlier this year at Tomorrowland to 100,000 ravers who were spontaneously taught the grim truths of child labour, Is Someone Looking For Me strikes a firm message on child trafficking and family separation with captivating euphoria. NERVO cites supporting families, abolishing poverty, and keeping kids in school as the end goal with all profits from the release going to non-profit organisation partner, Hopeland.

Also a family affair, Liv Nervo‘s daughter Ace Paloma lends her innocent yet mighty vocals with lyrics, “together, we can help! Spread the word.” Poignant lyrics continue from another vocalist’s raw, spoken words that pull at the heartstrings, “did you know she doesn’t always have a choice/ Did you know he doesn’t always have a voice?”, it continues, “If you look around, things might not appear as they seem, if your eyes are open, you can help set her free.”

NERVO – Is Someone Looking For Me

Since becoming mothers a few years ago, Mim and Liv Nervo have gained a newfound appreciation for the vulnerability of their children and responsibility they owe to the younger generation. Driven more than ever to provide security and financial stability for other families, especially those who have become abandoned by parents and society, NERVO are committed to doing anything to help, leading to the partnership with Hopeland, introduced by David Guetta‘s manager.

Already creating a heartfelt reaction across the industry since their Tomorrowland set, NERVO hope to raise awareness the best way they know how: through music. Having performed a trio of sets, their final performance on July 30th for the three weekender coincided with the United Nations World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a global occasion to raise awareness about the issue. The duo expand on the personal significance of the project:

“This would have to be one of the most meaningful projects that we have been a part of. Not only because the song features Liv’s 2 year old on vocals, but also because we have learned so much through working with these charities (Hopeland & ILO) about the horrors that vulnerable children face.

Child labour and child trafficking is such a mammoth problem that needs more visibility. We wanted the lyrics to be thought provoking, and whilst it’s not the normal ‘dance tune lyric’ we hope the message gets through to a few electronic music lovers. This is the first step of many more to come! We hope people will join us in the conversation!”

Their campaign partner and charity Hopeland are dedicated to pushing the message for the insidiously prevalent and often forgotten issue of child labour and trafficking across the globe that specifically targets those living in poverty. They help to prevent children from becoming separated from their families and trafficked. Using the hashtag #LetKidsBeKids across social media platforms, NERVO aim to bring attention to and help a humanitarian crisis that has seen over 160M kids, or 1/10 children worldwide forced into child labour, 10M children trapped in modern slavery today, with almost one third of human trafficking victims being children.

An issue often hidden in plain sight, NERVO successfully continues to launch the issue right in front of the industry and ravers alike. Finally releasing the new single after addressing the matter since July, Is Someone Looking For Me marks the biggest catalyst in pricking the ears of the international dance music scene and beyond, offering the campaign as a resource to help understand, support and find a desperately needed solution.

Meet BINARYH, the rising Brazilian duo that’s making waves in the melodic techno scene

With their mysterious and poetic style, the two have been catching the eyes and ears of a growing audience worldwide. Now they are preparing for their first gig in London.

Although this will be their first time performing in the UK, Camila Giamelaro and Rene Castanho are no newcomers to the industry. Both have been around for over a decade – but it was not until they combined their skills and talents that they gained both local and international notoriety as BINARYH. London will have its first chance to check their live performance on November 27, as part of Afterlife‘s Sunday lineup at the iconic Printworks.

Their relationship with the label has started and grown organically. Since 2019, Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri have given support to more than 10 of their unreleased tracks – some of which have appeared regularly in the Tale of Us‘ sets. This year, the platonic affair became more serious: BINARYH had their track “Seyfert” included in the third installment of “Unity“, a compilation curated by Tale of Us and released on Afterlife. They also had their premiere at one of the label’s events during the residency at Hï Ibiza last summer.

Considered the ambassadors of melodic techno in Brazil, Camila and Rene are building their solid reputation with charisma and acclaimed performances. Like their epic sunset gig in the latest edition of Rock in Rio – where they turned a rather empty dancefloor into a vibrating sea of people – and memorable nights in some of the most relevant festivals and clubs in Brazil, like DGTL São Paulo, D Edge, Warung, Ame Club, Surreal and XXXperience, just to name a few. Last month, Lollapalooza Brazil announced BINARYH in their 2023 lineup as well.

Based out of São Paulo, the biggest metropolis in South America, the couple has been carving their path to success consistently and gradually since 2016, the year they officially launched BINARYH with the release of the “Primary Code” EP on the german label Steyoyoke.

Each and every production coming out of BINARYH‘s studio is carefully crafted to deliver atmosphere, energy and emotion. Synthetic code lines written with a touch of poetry, engaging the audience with their unique and beautiful style, in which one can notice references from the likes of Tale of Us, Mind Against and Agents of Time. Putting quality always above quantity, their lower-than-average release frequency is by design: BINARYH prefers to work each track to near-perfection and only release what touches them – and the dancefloor – on a deep level.

Receiving support from some heavy-hitters such as Adriatique, ARTBAT, ANNA, Bart Skils, Guy J, Fideles, Kevin de Vries and Nicole Moudaber, as well as some less obvious names like David Guetta, Markus Schulz and Tiësto, their talent and musical prowess is undeniable. “Seyfert“, the track they released on Afterlife earlier this year, was said by Carmine Conte to be “the translation of what melodic techno is”.

More recently, BINARYH gave birth to their own touring party label, KØNTACT, where they curate a lineup aiming at putting a spotlight over talented up-and-coming artists – and popularizing melodic techno in Brazil even more.

Drumcode Records returns with its iconic A-Sides series after a two-year break

Drumcode’s beloved A-Sides compilation makes a return after a two-year absence, with a mammoth 25-track feast covering every shade of the techno spectrum.

The project was devised in 2012 as a way of showcasing the wealth of strong material Adam Beyer receives each year, which due to Drumcode‘s busy release schedule, might not otherwise find a home on the label. Since then, it’s grown to become an essential fixture on the techno release schedule and a marker for where the genre stands in any given year.

The highlight-rich project includes the debut collaboration between Layton Giordani & HI-LO, a huge 2022 highlight which was released as an advanced streaming single on Friday 18th November and has racked up 130k+ streams within four days of release. There’s also a fantastic single from Juliet FoxEvolution of Thinking‘, a psy-laced head-warper ‘Astronaut‘ from Jay Lumen and ‘Pulsation‘ a dreamy new cut from Julian Jeweil.

A string of debutants make their first appearance on the label including ascendent Argentinean producer Nicolas Taboada, Anna Reusch, Andres Campo, A.D.H.S, LAAT and rising French techno artists Cosmic Boys.

Elsewhere Drumcode crew Tiger Stripes, Wehbba, Veerus, Mark Reeve and Thomas Hoffknecht, among others, lay down a string of heaters.

We’re also treated to Nicole Moudaber‘s first Drumcode contribution in three years with ‘Come To My Beat‘ featuring Romina; the return of BEC, who’s been in impressive form in recent years and on-point contributions from Marco Faraone, Zimmz and Avision, who all make welcome returns to the imprint. One of the most vital contributions comes from Glasgow’s Gary Beck, who last dropped music on DC in 2016. His searing weapon ‘Ship Went Down‘ makes for an exhilarating compilation moment.

Duke & Jones & Marlhy join forces on new single ‘State Of Mind’

Pairing poignant progressive house beats with Marlhy’s soaring vocals, ‘State Of Mind’ is a powerful club track that leaves a lasting impression. It marks the follow-up to ‘Lucid’ and ‘Jiggle Jiggle’, Duke & Jones’ viral smash with Louis Theroux. One of the biggest ever sounds on TikTok, it has amassed over 77 million Spotify streams and counting.

“‘State Of Mind’ is about realising you haven’t been seeing the full person in a relationship,” says Marlhy. “Sometimes it’s hard to see the negative attributes of someone when you fall in love, and this song is about reflecting on that and acknowledging the mistake.”

“‘State of Mind’ was hugely inspired by Marlhy’s vocals,” add Duke & Jones. “The lyrics explore overlooking problems in a past relationship, and nostalgic, progressive house elements complemented that feeling. The drop is the cathartic moment. As the production is stripped back, the song moves from remembering the past to letting it go and moving forward.”

Duke & Jones are quickly establishing themselves as one of the most forward-thinking acts in the industry. Carving a reputation as ‘producer’s producers’ they continue to prove that true talent doesn’t need a record label or huge co-sign to make waves – instead, they let the music speak for itself.

Their unique sound has helped them garner millions of global listeners – including a loyal TikTok following who are hooked to their hilarious autotune videos – and support from some of the biggest artists in the world. Following the mega success of the viral hit ‘Jiggle Jiggle‘, where they collaborated with Louis Theroux, Amelia Dimoldenberg and Jason Derulo, Duke & Jones hit number 49 on the Billboard Emerging Artists Chart. The track also became an emote on Fortnite, and was supported by a plethora of celebrities including Snoop Dogg, Coldplay, Shakira and press alike, such as Lad Bible, LA Times, Newsweek, Sky News and loads more.

A musician, actress, television personality and internet sensation, Marlhy has worked with bands such as The Regrettes, Pretty Little Demons, Zeppos, We’re Not Dudes and Purple Hats and Jetpacks, and is the youngest ever performer at SXSW.

A sizzling collaboration, ‘State Of Mind‘ explores the sweet spot between raw emotion and dance floor energy.
