Ibiza favorites Mambo Brothers unveil new single, ‘LIFE’

Mambo Brothers

DJ and producer duo Mambo Brothers have unveiled their stirring new single ‘LIFE’, via Armada Subjekt.

A seven-minute journey that harnesses an unmistakably Balearic vibe, ‘LIFE‘ pairs rhythmic drums with tribe-like chanting and emotive electronic elements to masterful effect. The release comes ahead of a set at Wall Miami on NYE, with the brothers performing alongside Italian DJ and producer Chicco Secci.

It concludes what has been a landmark year, with the brothers playing at some of the world’s most revered festivals, such as Glastonbury, Tomorrowland and We Are FSTVL. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Pete Tong, Masters at Work and Jamie Jones, Mambo Brothers have released music on some of the biggest labels in the underground, taking their jackin’ house sound to the likes of Armada Music, Toolroom Records, Abode and Defected.

No strangers to touring, the brothers are continually spreading their Mambo sound worldwide, playing over 60 different cities across the globe, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Dubai, Doha, London, Miami, Monaco, Moscow, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul and Tokyo. They have also hosted their own Mambo stage at some of the world’s biggest dance music festivals.

With 2020 just around the corner, the Mambo Brothers are showing no signs of taking their foot off the gas.

Exclusive interview with multi-talented DJ and producer Anna Reusch

Anna Reusch

How best to sum up a DJ and producer like Anna Reusch? A prodigious talent, she’s been heavily involved in one way or another with electronic music since her mid teens and she’s beginning to make a breakthrough thanks to a way of working that’s quickly accelerated her toward the top of the DJ charts.

Known for releasing music that veers between house, tech, minimal and techno, her eclectic sound means she’s also a firm fixture of the TW Management agency, alongside the likes of Egbert, Julian Jeweil, Paco Osuna, Oxia, Sidney Charles and more.

Frankly, she’s someone who keeps good company when it comes to electronic music, and if you’re only encountering her now, we can state with some assurance that you’ll be hearing much more from this passionate German talent over the coming months. On the eve of a pivotal year for Anna, we checked in with her to chat releases, goals and confidence…

Anna Reusch
Anna Reusch

Let’s start by chatting a bit about your 2019… looks like you enjoyed a really big year! On that note, do you feel as if you’re finally making the breakthrough that your hard work deserves?

If your “hard work” you mean that I’m always passionate, authentic and very disciplined, then yes! I’m not the type who says they deserves this or that, though. I am simply looking forward to everything that I am allowed to experience and I was able to experience so far. 2019 was great, I had a lot of great gigs that I really like thinking back to.

At what stage did you decide to embark on a full-time career in music? Did you have a mentor who has really encouraged you to go for it?

That was a slow process. Bouq encouraged me to give the music more space and to take it more seriously. I was always very skeptical if I was good enough. Luckily I had many helpers who helped me with advice and support.

Are you a musician who suffers with confidence at all? Or are you generally pretty positive in your outlook?

For a long time, I was very critical and insecure. But the more I played, the more catastrophes I experienced and bad luck and mishaps I mastered, the more secure I became. I am still nervous today, but I know it helps to stay focused. Today I rely on my intuition and I enjoy every minute in which I listen to my favorite songs with my listeners and celebrate them together.

How important do you think is one’s mental health state when they are approaching the task of making music? Do you need to enter the studio in a clear state of mind, for example?

That’s a funny question. I think when you’re touring you have to be in a good mental place. Traveling, sleeping less or irregularly is stressful. But in the studio “being a little crazy” is definitely good. Genius and madness are often close together…

Can you talk us through your music production process? Are you quite strict with your routine when it comes to making music? Do you treat it like a 9-5 sort of job?

I’ve been working with Dave Robertson (Reset Robot) for two years and he’s very structured. Maybe because he is a father. But I find it’s very productive. At some point you are “fed up” [with the scene] anyway. The concentration is also not infinite and after a good lunch with great south sea air you are immediately full of creative power. The results are much better than those after nocturnal visits to the studios.

One of your tracks we really enjoyed this year was ‘Do It’, which came out via the Transmit label. Can you tell us a bit about the story behind this track? And how does it feel to have the support of a massive label like Transmit?

I released my track “I’m About” on the Atmosphere EP at the beginning of 2019. It’s a very punchy one and the people loved it, so I decided to make another punchy, stripped back one. In my eyes, “Do It” is even better. It was just meant to be a B side, but when transmit chose it as an A side I was over the moon. I sent some tracks to them because I found the last release of theirs very cool and thought that might fit well. I am very happy and proud that they have published something of mine.

What were the reactions like when you played it out? Do you generally ‘test’ your own records out on crowds in advance?

Yes I test everything before I send it. It has to work on the dance floor. The reactions to the number were and are always very good. Luckily!

The track is quite indebted to the sounds of DJs such as Len Faki or Ben Klock. Do you think this is a fair point? And if not, what other DJs would you say motivated the track?

My motivator for such a stripped-back track is the Jeweil Rmx from Fuego, for example. I do not have any thoughts in the studio about how a track could or should sound like, but I take my experience and my preferences and try to implement this in the project. But if you feel “Do It” reminds you of a Len track, then that’s a compliment to me.

You mentioned Jeweil Rmx, but in terms of your DJ and production skills, is there one person whose sound, style and approach you admire more than others? What is it about them that you so look up to?

I admire everyone who manages to have his own sound, but has managed to stay modern over the years. As a producer, for example, I count Matt Sassari, Oscar L and Sam Paganini as big influences. When you hear the first minute of their tracks, you know exactly who produced it. As a DJ, I admire Monika Kruse because she’s always modern with her track selection and she makes people dance everywhere.

Do you set yourself goals in that respect? And do you have any plans to establish your own label in future?

My booker hates me because of that but I have no goals! I have already achieved more than I ever dared to dream. And when I look at my calendar for 2020, I cannot stop smiling. If you expect a lot you can be disappointed that’s why I’m just looking forward to everything that comes. To start my own label has actually come to my mind since I have a track which I played all whole summer and which is well received everywhere, but none of the labels I asked wants to publish it. But I am 100% behind it and therefore I will keep the thought of my own label in the back of my head.

Finally, can you tell us something we don’t know about you?

Next time, if we know each other better!

99% of the world’s musicians will be on Viberate, a new music industry platform

There’s a good chance you’ll already find most of your favorite artists on Viberate. The massive platform, designed to match musicians with event organizers, features over a million comprehensive profiles of artists, venues, events, and festivals.

Thanks to 20,000 contributors, it took Viberate.com only a few years to get from a boutique DJ directory to the world’s largest and most relevant platform for live music. By 2025 almost every single musician will be featured on it.

In the words of the startup’s co-founder, UMEK – a world-renowned techno DJ, the platform’s first and foremost focus is on staying relevant:

“Unlike similar services, we try to stay away from automatically scraping large sources to get content and new profiles because that creates a mess. With millions of artists and venues out there, you have to do it manually, and this calls for help from the community.”

Mapping the live music scene with crowdsourcing

Viberate‘s crowdsourcing approach encourages anyone to take part in listing and mapping the global live music scene. Anyone can log in and add missing musicians, venues, or events. After the editorial team checks the entry for relevance, the profile will go live. More than 20,000 contributors from all over the world already signed up, adding up to 2,000 new profiles each day.

“It’s great to contribute and include talent, regardless if an artist is my cup of tea or not, since everybody has the right to be featured.“ says Camilo, a DJ and one of Viberate’s top contributors.

They earn badges for their work and each month the best of them are rewarded – with merch, festival tickets, or other goodies. The very “elite” can get promoted and start working on Viberate‘s data full time on a monthly salary. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you live – if you’re good, you’ll get a call and a job offer.

Supported by superstars

Viberate was founded to solve one of the biggest problems in the music industry: bringing information previously scattered all over the internet onto a single platform, thus allowing for market transparency.

Its other two founders, UMEK’s managers Matej Gregorcic and Vasja Veber, started it as a pet project to measure UMEK‘s popularity and track how promotion influences his career. The platform took off like a rocket with support from superstar acts such as Linkin Park, Robbie Williams, and The Chainsmokers, who were among the first big acts to claim their profiles.

If you want to see whether you have the skills to work in the music industry, you can start by signing up as a contributor here via link

Carl Cox reveals NYE plans with 20 Year Anniversary Show in Hawaii

carl cox

Mere mortals could never hope to see two millenniums in one lifetime, but if you’re Carl Cox, those strict universal rules can bend a little. In the span of 24 hours, twenty years ago, Carl Cox made history by being the only artist to ring in the same new year in two different countries by playing Australia’s Bondi Beach December 31st 1999 and welcoming in the year 2000 and then wing himself across the international dateline, dive backward in time, and play Hawaii’s Kakaako Waterfront Beach on December 31st, 1999. The event was broadcast by BBC Radio 1 live from both locations to millions.

It seems Hawaii was more than ready when Carl arrived in 1999…

“…the best reception was in Honolulu because it was the biggest dance music event to ever hit the island, plus was endorsed by the Hawaii Governor as their official State of Hawaii Millennium party.

The crowd were so hyped up that they were running at the stage in sheer mania. It was electrifying and made me smile proud at the madness of it all looking at the stars in the open Hawaii air while Carl Cox set about them with his tunes…”Eddie Gordon, producer for BBC Radio 1.

This New Year’s Eve, Carl Cox will return to the big island, twenty years to the day since his last visit, to do what Coxy does best and bring his musical wizardry for his eagerly awaited return. Hosted by Denial Events and the Electric Family, Carl has made it his mission to ring in the new year in Hawaii, the place that welcomed his original record-breaking dance music mission.

First things first- New Year’s Eve– and it’s a special one. Carl will ring in the new year for 1100 lucky people at Honolulu’s premiere concert venue, Republik. Boasting an impressive sound and lighting package along with video monitors that allow guests to see the show from all vantage points, Republik is the perfect partner for the Carl Cox NYE experience.

Guests will be gifted with branded party favors and merchandise that celebrate this once in a lifetime experience along with joining Carl for a champagne toast at midnight. There will be plenty of photo opportunities at the step and repeat wall and special surprises are planned that will only be revealed on the night. Missing this is not an option.

On New Year’s Day, the party will transition from Republik to a private boat that will take guests on a tour around the island while Carl continues what he started from the night before. Carl will not doubt be digging deep into his musical vaults ensuring everyone’s start to 2020 is bursting with special moments. Only ticketed guests from the night before will have access to this extremely intimate experience for those 21+ and available on a first come, first serve, basis.

Those holding Republik tickets will be sent a private purchase link on Dec 5 for the boat that is valid for just 24 hours. With just 100 spots available, those who purchase early stand the best chance of securing their boat pass. This will absolutely sell out. You have been fairly warned.

These two events are especially poignant for Carl and something he is truly excited to relive with new and old fans alike. A little bit of history repeating.

Hawaii in 1999-2000 was absolutely amazing for me and I cannot wait to be back for New Year’s Eve! I promise not to stay away so long in the future.” –Carl Cox

It goes without saying that those fortunate ones who make the journey can expect an ecclesiastical rush of music and a shared experience with Carl Cox to remember for a lifetime.

Rave Jungle interview with Aligee & Phareed discussing their latest collab ‘Believer’

ALIGEE & Phareed

Electro House producers Aligee and Phareed are clearly a harmonious pairing as they have seen incredible success with releases such as ‘Eyes Up’ and their remix of Mabel’s ‘Bad Behaviour’.

Their latest release ‘Believer’ is a bouncy, chilled out banger that has seen over 31K plays on Soundcloud and support from DJs all over the world.

We got the chance to sit down with Aligee & Phareed to discuss about their brand new collaboration ‘Believer’, their music production process, future plans and many more.

Check out the interview below!

First off, tell us about the story behind ‘Believer’?

Oh, sadly there is no any specific story or legend behind this song. We actually finished this song at the beginning of this year but we have been so busy with demo song productions for Eurovision song contest. So, due to this and some other changes in our plans, we kept the release till October.

What has the reaction been like?

We usually work hard to deliver a quality production. Especially, when we are happy with the idea and vocals. We’ve already received so much positive feedback and support from the music experts, fans and famous DJs. We usually share our finished song with some selected close people and other producer friends to get their feedback as they all have great music tastes! It’s like a double check to see how the track will do.

This is just one of many collaborations from you guys, what’s your working relationship like?

As you might know, we were previously a part of a music production team under a German based management company and did productions for many famous artists. After a while, we’ve decided to continue independently, so Phareed formed his own music company (MAINCHORD Studio) in London, which covers Label/Management/Publishing. So now, we are working for ourselves. We’ve worked really hard and now we have a team of 10 producers signed to our management company.

How did you come to work with Chad Kowal?

Once we had a ready demo instrumental, we shared the idea with several songwriters, but didn’t received a topline which could work for us. Then we saw information about Vocal Kitchen on social media and started to negotiate with them. After a few weeks, we received several demos with very nice toplines from different songwriters. Chad’s version and voice was the only one which really resonated with us from the first listen. It was a moment where we just knew that was the right decision.

Do you sometimes have any difficulties working together?

Of course! In most cases our sessions are fun and we love to work in a good mood. We do sometimes argue but it’s a normal part of the creative process, you don’t always have the same opinions about a direction of a track. At times we prefer and like different sounds, melodies, toplines. In such cases, we usually go on to work on another project. Then we come back with fresh minds and decide where to go from there.

Whats your favourite part of ‘Believer’?

When you are a producer of the song, every part of your song sounds sweet to your ears. But we love to hear opinions of fans about their favourite parts of the song.

How would you compare the track to some of your other releases?

Aw, difficult question! We usually try to improve with every new release and to deliver something new with fresh sounds and ideas, different from previous (as we don’t like to repeat ourselves), but still an interesting song for our listeners.

Can we expect more collaborations from you guys?

Yes, of course. We already have few upcoming releases!

Whats next for Aligee and Phareed?

Besides of our joint projects, we also have solo projects and collaborations going on with other artists. Some of them are already in a waiting list, the others are in progress. We also would love to have an Asia tour in 2020, but this is still TBC.

Listen to the track below and enjoy!
