The Swedish DJ and producer, Basshunter expressed his heartbreak following the news that two teenagers, 19 yr-olds, had died during his set at the Pryzm nightclub in Plymouth, United Kingdom this week.

Police say two 19-year-old men, one from Okehampton and one from Newton Abbot are understood to have taken what they thought was MDMA with a larger group of friends. They were both taken straight from Pryzm to the hospital at around 1.40am on Saturday, but didn’t make it.

A Pryzm Plymouth spokesperson said:

“We are devastated by the events of this morning where two young men tragically lost their lives, and we would like to extend our thoughts and condolences to the families and friends at this very sad time.

“It is believed the two men took what they thought to be MDMA and we would urge anyone, especially those going out tonight and who may be planning on taking recreational drugs to be aware of this incident and to please think twice before taking any unknown substance.”

Jonas Erik Altberg aka Basshunter released a statement through his team confirming his heartbreak over the tragedy:

“Basshunter is devastated that what was a party atmosphere should end this way. He would like to offer his condolences at this very sad time.”

Armin van Buuren is giving the perfect Christmas present to his fans!

Armin van Buuren

Trance legend, Armin van Buuren is the first DJ ever to release a Christmas Song. Celebrating the most wonderful holiday with your loved ones should be done the right way. With your own soundtrack playing on repeat.

Armin and Josh Cumbee wanted to give you that perfect Christmas present after having an magical summer with their huge hit Sunny Days. They broke down the summer hit into a more gentle calm version and added some lovely jingle bells. The track was made within 24 hours and aired the same day on Dutch radio.

Here’s what Armin van Buuren says about the track:

“A few weeks ago, someone from the office asked me if I had ever toyed with the idea of turning ‘Sunny Days’ into a Christmas song. A DJ releasing a Christmas carol is not something that easily comes to mind, but when I listened to ‘Sunny Days’ afterwards, I discovered that the lyrics do have some of that Christmas magic going for them.”

“Past Tuesday night, I spoke with the vocalist of ‘Sunny Days’, Josh Cumbee, who has become a good friend of mine. I shared the idea with him and when I woke up the next morning at 6 a.m., he had already sent me a first draft, based on an unreleased downtempo version of ‘Sunny Days’.

I loved it so much that I immediately sent it over to my record label (Armada Music) and less than 24 hours later, ‘Christmas Days’ was born.”

18 yr-old throws $4 million birthday party headlined by Diplo and J Balvin [VIDEO]

No, this is not a lineup for some major music festival. Superstar DJ and producer, Diplo and singers and rappers J Balvin, Migos, Ja Rule and Ashanti were some of the performers and guests at an 18-year-old’s massive $4 million birthday party in San Antonio.

The youngster is the son of a super successful and wealthy personal injury lawyer, who helped make this night in San Antonio one his boy will never forget. Other celebrities in attendance were Austin Mahone, Adrienne Bailon, singer Lance Bass, actress Rumer Willis and model Joanna Krupa.

It’s also not the family’s first lavish party. Last year, Henry Sr. threw his daughter a $6 million quinceañera. So what do you get the kid with a $4 million party with these superstars performing as a present? Eh, just a nice watch … and a brand new Ferrari waiting outside after the party. There was also a Cuban cigar roller, and a bar completely made of ice.

It’s safe to say that his birthday is probably cooler than the next one we’re going to have. See some of the party’s highlights at the video below.

Dreamstate Socal 2017 Recap: Insomniac’s Trance event was back and better than ever

Dreamstate 2017

Over Thanksgiving weekend, thousands of Trance heads worldwide reunited in Southern California to celebrate the 3rd annual Dreamstate festival. Insomniac’s premier Trance music event was back and better than ever.

North America’s biggest trance festival returned to it’s home at the Nos Event Center in San Bernardino, California and brought in over 35,000 attendees. With 4 beautifully crafted stages and over 70 talented artists, Dreamstate was a weekend full of dancing, state of the art lasers and pure love.

This years edition blessed ravers with debuts and brand new music from some of our favorite DJ’s. First on the list was the stellar West Coast debut of AEON from Paul Van Dyk. His closing set on Day 1 was a beautiful masterpiece that left party goers craving more; it was easily one of my favorite sets from the weekend.

Another first was the California debut of the highly anticipated set of Armin’s alias, GAIA. With their eerie black coats, the duo of Armin van Buuren and Benno de Goeij completely took over ‘The Dream’ stage and left us speechless. This was by far the best set of the weekend. We are used to Armin’s masterful sets, but this was something different. They are a must see duo.

Dreamstate Socal 2017

The VIP section was the place to be. It featured Pasquale’s own personal skydeck for his close friends and family. There were kandi stations, gourmet food trucks, air conditioned bathrooms and a Dreamstate lighted themed tree that was absolutely beautiful.

With Countdown NYE right around the corner, it’s time to step it up and get yourself a VIP ticket. You won’t regret it!

Artist drops out of Festival line-up, states “I don’t need a sympathy pedestal”

If there’s one person disappointed with Moogfest’s lineup for next year, it’s definitely Caroline Polachek.

As reported previously via Pitchfork, the former Chairlift vocalist took to Twitter yesterday to voice her displeasure regarding the festival’s phase one announcement, which includes performances by artists such as SOPHIE, Fawks, Jamila Woods, and Gavin Rayna Russom of LCD Soundsystem.

In her tweet, she states the following:

Moogfest representatives were quick to respond to her statement with an open-letter apology:

“Dear Caroline,

We apologize for reframing you in a way that takes focus off of your artistry and talent and we regret that you will no longer be taking part in Moogfest 2018.

Today’s lineup announcement was inspired by and coincided with Always On, a celebration of voices that are traditionally underrepresented. Our intention is to showcase an initial lineup that further amplifies those voices while supporting others in a way that challenges the manner in which festival lineups are typically presented.

We believe that using our platform to center women, non-binary and transgender people is an important tool to combat the erasure and invisibility that can occur when these identities are kept on the periphery. Please know that no musician was booked for Moogfest for any reason other than their own unique artistry, and today’s announcement is just phase one of our 2018 lineup. As always, the full Moogfest artist roster will be a diverse lineup of talented performers across a wide spectrum of gender, culture and politics.

Thank you for your honest expression. Thank you for your willingness to hold us to a higher standard. Thank you for starting this conversation.

PS. Moogfest is not curated by a man, it’s curated by a diverse group of people that work together as a team. There is not a single person, nor a single man that’s in charge of curating this event.

Love, Team Moogfest”

Polachek has since elaborated on her initial tweet today in a typed statement.

“I have no issue with all fem-gnc lineups, but that’s not what Moogfest is,” she wrote, “This is a gender-mixed festival where certain artists have been marched to the front the line and paraded together because they’re female/gnc. This speaks not to the artists or their music, but to the politics of the festival and self-congratulatory PR.”

Check out her full response below:

Moogfest will take place from in Durham, N.C. from May 17-20. This phase one announcement was followed up by “Always On,” a 50-hour Livestream with back to back performances from female, transgender, and non-binary electronic artists and beatmakers. Respected Italian Techno duo Tale Of Us will unveil their fabric 97 mix

Following the release of the ‘Endless’ LP remix package, respected Italian Techno duo Tale Of Us – also known as Carmine Conte & Matteo Milleri – will unveil their fabric 97 Mix on 16th February 2018.

The pair were supported by the club in the earlier stages of their career, making them a natural choice to take the reins of the seminal mix series at a point when they are considered an international success story.

fabric 97 is a masterclass in the style of pensive techno that Tale Of Us have built their reputation on. Over half of the tracks on the mix are exclusive to the compilation, including unreleased tracks from both Afterlife label regulars and upcoming artists, making this a very personal showcase of the brand that Tale Of Us have shaped over the last seven years.

This includes a memorable exclusive from the duo towards the end of the mix, ‘Error Error‘, as well as tracks from Recondite, Agents Of Time, Mind Against, Fur Coat, Adriatique, Patrice Bäumel and many more.

Blending careful selections into a brooding yet fluid mix, Tale Of Us cement their reputation as one of music’s most dynamic and forward-thinking acts with this release.

The pair will be celebrating the launch at a daytime party on the Sunday 25th February, with an extended, all-day-long set.

10 Things You can Only Find at Burning Man !

1. MOOP SYSTEM

This is truly what makes Burning Man a leave no trace event.

So what is MOOP? MOOP is an acronym for “Matter Out of Place”, a way of referring to anything that is not originally of the land on which our event takes place. So everything that wasn’t originally on or of the Black Rock Desert, no matter the size, is considered MOOP, and is expected to remove as part of our Leave No Trace efforts.

The MOOP team grades each campsite on how well they clean up their space. Beware, if you get a negative grade there is a chance that your campsite will be welcome back next year, so everyone please clean up after yourselves.

2. WORKSHOPS

Part of the responsibility of campsites is to provide something for the people to enjoy while they call Black Rock City their home for 7 days. Campsites offer music camps, workshops, and air-conditioned lounges.

The Burning Man guide is full of workshops, ranging from the most depraved spanking classes to the most spiritual meditation/yoga classes. Some Examples:

  • Holotropic Breathing
  • Gong Meditation
  • Laughter Yoga
  • Radical Improv
  • Healing Dome Sessions
  • Introduction to Open Relationships & Polyamory
  • Knife Throwing
  • The Neurobiology of Hallucination
  • How to Save the World
  • Talking with Strangers

3. THE TEMPLE

One of the most powerful, beautiful, happiest and saddest places people get to experience. The Temple is an annual display of love, devotion, and remembrance, but it’s also filled with a lot of sadness. The temple gives so much meaning to the whole community and it’s a reminder that the event is not just about partying. It’s about love, connections, and reflection. It is one of the few places where one can experience peace and tranquility on the playa.

Tip: Some people are intimidated to go into the Temple, but it’s a must-do, and I encourage everyone to take the trip to the temple on their own.

4. SUNRISE AT ROBOT HEART

A sunrise Deep Playa session is due with the Robot Heart Art car. The sun starts to creep over the horizon and you slowly start seeing everyone’s beautiful smiles and creative costumes. Whoever is DJing at that sunrise set will always have something special in store for what is a truly monumental moment.

5. BACON PANCAKES

Let’s get this straight, there is no better way to welcome someone into their campsite than to jump out in the middle of the road dressed half naked and press play on a boombox to the Bacon Pancake Song. My group and I were fortunate enough to bump into this campsite and got treated to an amazing bacon pancake breakfast.

6. BIKING IN THE DESERT

No cars are allowed, so everyone either walks or ride their pimped out bikes to get around. Let’s face it, when are you going to get the chance to ride around in the desert along with thousands of other riders. There’s nothing so wonderful as biking out across the flat hot desert, feeling the wind in your hair, and seeing the colors and/or lights of the city fly past.

7. PARTY IN A DUSTSTORM

Something about putting on those goggles and wrapping your face with a bandana as you look at this enormous cloud of dust charging towards the dance floor just seems so appealing. This is something truly unique to the Playa, I mean where else can you enjoy a sunrise set from Jamie Jones during a sandstorm?

8. THUNDERDOME

This is a must-see for a first time burner. It transports you to another world, where the rules of today’s society don’t apply and you enter deathmatch (sort of) to defend your honor. Do you think you have what it takes to take on one of the elite members of the thunder dome campsite?

9. SPANK BANK

Have you ever been naughty or would like to be? This campsite called the “spank bank” can help you out. Enjoy a playful, sensual Playa spanking by professional spankers that will assist tanning your behind and satisfy your thirst.

10. GET LOST IN THE DEEP PLAYA

You never know what you will find, you might bump into a party, a dinner, or just your fellow lost burners. No matter what the situation is to remember the Playa will always provide.

23 year-old caught with $40.5 million worth pure MDMA !

A 23-year-old man from Canberra has been charged by Australian police for the alleged importation of 356 kilograms of pure MDMA drug hidden in buckets of chlorine bound for a pool company.

Tamim Jamaal Nozhat was arrested in Sydney, on December 5 and appeared in the Magistrates Court of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), charged with “importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug,”

Border Patrol agents stopped a shipment of pool chlorine underneath which was hidden 356 kilograms of pure MDMA. It has been assessed that this could amount to 1.2 million total ecstasy pills, worth an estimated 40.5 million dollars.

Crown prosecutor Edward Chen told the court the chlorine was destined for a company named ‘Wholesale Pool Supplies‘, registered under Mr Nozhat’s name. It was sent from a German company based in Hamburg called ‘Dimitridis Carparts & Motors‘, which was no longer registered.

ACT Policing deputy chief police officer commander Mark Walters said:

“The drugs were actually seized at the border so fortunately they didn’t make their way to Canberra, but in terms of drugs that were directly related to the ACT this is the most significant drug seizure,”

He’s been denied bail.

Nightclubs Now Have a Way to Test if You’ve Been in Contact with Drugs!

nightclub drugs machine

For years now law enforcement has worked in various different ways to keep drugs and drug users, out of nightclubs. Previously they struggled with non-invasive testing and quick results, but now those problems have finally been solved.

A club in Lincolnshire, Circle Nightclub has teamed up with law enforcement to implement drug itemiser machine at the entrance of the clubs. This will offer an alternative method for clubs and law enforcement to minimize the amount of drug-related activities that go on inside the nightclub.

Licensing Sergeant Kim Enderby explains:

The machine reads the swabs and indicates if there has been any contact with illegal drugs. The machine is calibrated to test for a wide cross-section of drugs widely in use including Cocaine, Ecstasy, and Amphetamine. Those who tested positive were spoken to by the local officers and if the grounds were established, they would be searched under the misuse of drugs act.”

“Prior to the operation we swabbed all the public areas inside the nightclub, so the management were aware of the locations within the club where illegal drugs had been used. With this information they are able to put pro-active steps in place to deter similar activity occurring.”

This system is being tested out and is potentially going to spread to other nightclubs very soon because the swabs are cost-effective and simple.

Community Beat Sergeant for Lincoln City Centre Sgt Claire Hime added:

“This was the first in a series of operations we have planned around the night time economy in Lincoln. The management at Circle were really keen to help us launch this initiative; they want to ensure that a night out at their venue is a safe and fun experience for all their customers. The feedback from the public on the night was also really positive; everyone was happy to be swabbed and could see the benefits of the operation.”
