If you’re unfamiliar with the DEA, they’re the Drug Enforcement Agency, the part of the United States Police Department charged with narcotics operations.
Back in 2001, they released a document called “The Rave and Club Culture/Designer Drugs”. Some of the questions the D.E.A. is asking themselves is What is PLUR?, What do ravers wear? Which sports drinks do they favor?
Their materials include a brief history of the rave scene, a breakdown of the types of music one might encounter at a rave, the various kinds of raves, the importance of selling water bottles at these events, and many more.
The following EDM festivals are our pick of Europe’s best in month of July, offering great music in locations that warrant further exploration, whether that’s in a city, the countryside or by the sea.

Tomorrowland is one of the biggest electronic music festivals held in the world, taking place in Belgium. The festival takes place in the town of Boom, 16 kilometers south of Antwerp, 32 kilometers north ofBrussels, and has been organized since 2005.
Following up on last year’s “Kingdom of Melodia,” Tomorrowland announced that the theme of this year’s festival is the equally-baffling-but-fitting “The Elixir of Life.”
“The Elixir of Life” theme is consistent with the festival’s mystical branding and medieval imagery, and seems an adequate description of the role dance music plays in many festivalgoers lives.

“XOXO” is an ensemble comedy about a group of 20-year-olds on a crazy adventure to the biggest Electronic Dance Music festival in America, XOXO. This movie follows six strangers whose lives collide in one frenetic, dream-chasing, hopelessly romantic night. At the center is Ethan, a young DJ who gets a last minute slot to perform after his tracks go viral online days before the festival. Pete Tong‘s previous credits in capacity of music supervisor include “Harry Brown,” “The Beach,” “24 Hour Party People” and “It’s All Gone Pete Tong.”
The new psychological thriller The Neon Demon made its theatrical debut Friday, and now Sia has shared her single from the film’s soundtrack. Titled “Waving Goodbye,” this song is a collaboration between the Aussie star and Diplo.
The superstar DJ & producer’s fingerprints are all over the track, evident through the hypnotizing and hyperactive electronic beats. This is not their first collaboration as Sia and Diplo previously worked together when he produced the remake of Sia’s knockout hit “Elastic Heart” for the movie The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Insomniac‘s founder Pasquale Rotella consider moving Electric Daisy Carnival out of Las Vegas. In an interview for LA Weekly he said that the stakes in Nevada have never been so high, and maybe Insomniac will try to find another location in the future.
Last year, Nevada passed a 9% tax on tickets to live entertainment events, a move specifically meant to raise revenues from large raves like Electric Daisy Carnival and other events like Burning Man.
“I always knew I’d being doing this until I’m dead. But now the stakes have never been so high,” said Pasquale Rotella, “It started at such a micro level, when EDM wasn’t even around. Now it’s at a place that we’ve always dreamed of having it. But the dream keeps growing, and dance music is always thinking about what’s next.”

Pasquale Rotella worries that high taxes may eventually impede young EDM fans from affording the festivals.
“We don’t want our crowd alienated, and we’ve been doing our best to represent their interests,” Rotella said. He said they have no plans to leave Las Vegas yet, but he warned that Insomniac could “absolutely” consider moving if taxes ever put ticket prices too high.

Nelson Hildago, a 47-year-old man from Queens was arrested last weekend for loading up his van with dozens of speakers for a cost of $20,000 and blasting his music so loud even the Citi Field bullpen called the cops, a police source said. They received multiple noise complaints shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday in the area of 35th Avenue and 127th Street in Willets Point.
An officer who approached the vehicle said the doors and windows of his police car were vibrating from that powerful noise and that his “ears began ringing,” the complaint read.

Yellow Claw announces to fans that one member is leaving the group. Early this morning, the Amsterdam based trio shared via social media that their member MC Bizzey will be officially leaving the group.

Canadian DJ and producer Deadmau5, who is currently mid way through his ULTRA Worldwide 2016 global tour, will have completed a colossal five ULTRA dates this year after his appearance in Singapore. The mau5 sent fans into a frenzy in March this year, throwing down a staggering three unique sets at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

California electronic dance music duo Hippie Sabotage fought security on stage after throwing microphones into a nearby pool.
An unusual fight happened in Dufur, Oregon during the 2016 edition of What The Festival. Sacramento-based production duo Hippie Sabotage started a fist fight on stage during their set. According to a thread on Reddit they became upset because of technical difficulties, and midway through its performance began throwing microphones into a nearby wading pool. This prompted security to stop them from further damaging the festival’s equipment.
According to a source close to the incident here’s what happened:
“The security guards then tried to pull them down from the speakers/gear table and they started violently punching the security guards,” says attendee Meghan Kearney. “It was so disgusting and disrespectful and they were completely at fault.”

In a statement to Willamette Week, the duo said security instigated the incident “It was an unfortunate event that placed us in an unsafe situation in the middle of our performance,”
On Twitter, the duo also said that it paid the festival for the damaged equipment.
“We feel terrible that the fans didn’t get the full set, but we love performing for Portland and will be back.”
