Toolroom round out the year with ‘Best Of Toolroom 2020’, mixed by Mark Knight

Mark Knight
http://stuarttracte.photography

A year far from the usual, and one in which the electronic music scene has had to adapt and change like never before, Toolroom’s continued evolution throughout an unorthodox 2020 has welcomed a new collection of stand-out tracks to the label’s rich catalogue across the past twelve months – with their last instalment welcoming the arrival of their annual ‘Best Of’ package, mixed by label boss Mark Knight.

Encapsulating the year into one package, the fifty-track compilation highlights huge additions on both Toolroom and Toolroom Trax, including Mark Knight and Rene Amesz’s summer anthem ‘All 4 Love’ and Knight’s excellent ‘If It’s Love’ featuring Laura Davie & The Melody Men, through to KC Lights’ warming and soulful favourite ‘Girl’, Leftwing : Kody’s dynamic ‘Without You’ feat. Camden Cox, and Oliver Heldens’ stellar label debut ‘Rave Machine, plus remixes from Carl Cox, Danny Howard and Martin Ikin, and key additions from #ToolroomFamily members Illyus & Barrientos, Friend Within, Maxinne and Seige.

Best Of Toolroom 2020

Add to the mix two fresh exclusives as rising UK talent Iglesias returns to remix Crazy FlukeObey’, plus Mattei & Omich’s fresh interpretation of Ben Remember’s ‘The Unloved’, and ‘Best Of Toolroom 2020’ delivers the perfect annual sign off as the label prepares for yet another landmark year in 2021.

Estiva returns to Colorize with beautiful single ‘Rush Hour’

Estiva is no stranger to the Enhanced Music family, with him being a staple on the main label for over 10 years. 2020 saw his return to the Colorize label, as well as being a prominent feature in the Colorscapes compilation in October.

The Dutch-born DJ and producer made his long-awaited return with the single “All Of Me” and now with the release of the enlivening single “Rush Hour.” Estiva isn’t known for conforming to musical norms, or any in that case — instead, he enjoys finding ways to connect the seemingly unconnected.

This progressive mindset is reflected in his ethereal blend of melodic techno, trance sounds, and more throughout the song. “Rush Hour” picks up effortlessly taking the listeners on an intimate and spiritual journey to a place of transcendence in their minds.

Estiva’s recently released album Metamorphoses marked an evolutionary step in his artistic development, exploring the boundaries of the electronic music spectrum. “Rush Hour” is only cut out to be that and more! There are no borders when traveling through the beauty and dualities of the natural world’s sounds and essence.

MAKJ and JYYE close out the year with ‘Promises’

MAKJ

Once December is in full swing and the year’s end draws near, many of us start reflecting on the things that happened in the past twelve months.

We wonder if we could’ve done more for others and ourselves, and start thinking about ways to better ourselves and make the next year worth remembering. The same counts applies to in-demand artists such as MAKJ and JYYE, and they chose to broach the subject through the release of a brand-new single: ‘Promises‘.

A pledge for another year filled with music as brilliant as previous release ‘Green Light‘, ‘Promises‘ sees MAKJ link up with JYYE for his second-ever record on Armada Music. With a set of dark vocals threading through the suspenseful builds and arpeggio-driven drops, ‘Promises‘ guarantees a sonic experience that’ll keep you coming back for more.

MAKJ: “‘Promises’ mixes the MAKJ sound everyone is used to with the sounds of JYYE to bring together one of my favorite collabs I’ve done.

JYYE: “It was a lot of fun working together with MAKJ on this tune as we have amazing chemistry as creatives. ‘Promises’ is one for the books; I hope our fans love it as much as we enjoyed creating it.“”

Our platform can shine global light on the amazing work they do, and it takes the message of the track to an even higher place. We All Move Together

From Motown Records, the Labor Movement, and Aretha Franklin, to the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, the 1967 Rebellion, and the birth of techno.

We aspire to make Detroit once again a space where liberation is expressed and experienced in transformative ways. Kevin Saunderson did this along with thousands of Black Detroiters when he helped birth the global movement that techno has become. The techno scene embodied the intentions of Black Detroiters looking to free themselves from an oppressive environment. Today that fight for freedom continues.

Armin van Buuren releases 17th edition of annual year mix series: ‘A State Of Trance Year Mix 2020’

Looking back, one can only emphasize how strange of a year it’s been. The global pandemic helped realize how important it is to look out for one another, that standing together is the only way to make a difference.

Now more than ever, the A State Of Trance community is a beacon, a guiding light that can help people move forward knowing that there will always be someone or something to fall back on. And that empowering message of support and unity threads through the entirety of the brand-new ‘A State Of Trance Year Mix 2020‘ album.

Seamlessly mixed by Armin van Buuren himself for the seventeenth time in a row, this latest edition of the acclaimed A State Of Trance Year Mix series shows that inspiration can spark no matter the situation.

Featuring more than a hundred breathtaking creations from leading creators such as Above & Beyond, Aly & Fila, Armin van Buuren, Cosmic Gate, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery and Paul van Dyk in a gorgeous two-hour mix, this mix album fully represents the power of music and how it can be an outlet for those who need it, creators and listeners alike.

A State Of Trance Year Mix 2020

It’s been a tough year for everyone”, Armin van Buuren states.

“For me personally, it was like a reset I didn’t know I really needed. COVID-19 made me realize how lucky I am to be doing this. I really miss physically connecting with people around the world and I felt a bit lost without the magic of performing for a crowd and experiencing this music together. Fortunately, I could continue broadcasting my A State Of Trance radio show from my studio in Amsterdam to connect with everyone online. I’m extremely thankful for that.

About the year mix itself, he added:

“I hope that this seventeenth edition of the year mix brings some much-needed light into this year and that it gives everyone something to look forward to as well. The planned celebrations for the ASOT1000 had to be postponed, but we will be doing something special on January 21, the day on which we’ll broadcast the 1000th episode of A State Of Trance. There are a few surprises coming in the next few weeks, so keep an eye on my social media channels.”

KAS:ST release their second album ‘A Magic World’ via Tale of Us’ Afterlife

Parisian DJ and producer duo KAS:ST today release their anticipated second album, titled ‘A MAGIC WORLD’ via Tale of Us’ Afterlife Recordings.

Originally announced last month with the first single and accompanying music video for ‘VTOPIA’, ‘A MAGIC WORLD’ is now available to stream and purchase.

Like a vast proportion of like-minded artists from varying fields, close friends and intrinsically synced creatives Carol and Manuel, better known as KAS:ST, have taken advantage of global confinement to push the limits of their musical output.

Behind closed doors and simmered over the course of 6 months, it was here that the journey for their new studio album began to take form. With a natural desire to explore, develop and broaden the musical silhouettes which KAS:ST have become championed for, the inaugural taster of ‘A MAGIC WORLD‘ arrived last month in a highly visual.

KAS:ST A Magic World

Swiftly amassing over 400K views, ‘VTOPIA‘ is the self-directed, cinematic video and KAS:ST‘s strikingly violent metaphorical commentary on the current age. Filmed between Paris and Barcelona, ‘VTOPIA’ is centred around a dark reality which intertwines with modern society. A continuation from the 2019 video ‘HELL ON EARTH‘ (3.7M plays), ‘VTOPIA’ follows the narrative of two main protagonists who only have their dreams to escape and received early media support from Mixmag, DJ Mag, Faze and more:

An exploration of ambient electronic sounds, techno, rap, classical music and pop, KAS:ST welcome for the first time a host of multi-genre vocalists across the album’s 15 tracks including Hi Levelz, Brume, Hansom Eli and Be No Rain.

A vision which moves towards a sound reminiscent of a darker musical tone of the likes of Four Tet, Bicep, James Blake and Floating Points, KAS:ST are no strangers to collaborating with seminal names from within the underground electronic scene including Tale Of Us, Kerri Chandler and many more.

Challenging themselves to innovate and elevate from the realms of techno which they believe not to be evolving, ‘A MAGIC WORLD‘ is in KAS:ST‘s sense, a tribute to differences and diversity across both life and music.

Our new album is a much broader, artistic exploration for us and one which we feel demonstrates our many different musical influences. ‘A MAGIC WORLD’ is our vehicle to showcase a blend of electronic, rap, pop and classical influences, all whilst remaining true to the sounds of techno” – KAS:ST

Whether it be productions via their own label Flyance Records or remarkably performed live and DJ sets, KAS:ST have consistently crafted an atypical and avant-garde blend of electronic music. With an impressive and famed discography which was first marked by 2016’s double EP ‘Dysphoria I Euphoria‘, since then, each track released is a journey fusing together dark and melancholic emotions without ever losing touch of the clubbing aspect of techno. Following releases across renowned labels including Afterlife Recordings, Concrete Music and Materia, it was 2019 which saw the introduction of KAS:ST‘s debut LP, ‘Road To Nowhere‘.

The album captured and synthesized the duo’s vast creative range, touching upon industrial techno, drum and bass, trap and symphonic tracks – A milestone in the ever-evolving story of one of electronic music’s most intriguing acts, ‘Road To Nowhere‘ was extremely well received – streamed over 14 million times in the opening months.

The first full EP on Tale Of UsAfterlife Recordings followed in December 2019, which continued to showcase KAS:ST‘s undeniable momentum in becoming a new musical discovery outlet for both industry heads and fans alike.

Hold Me To The Light‘, one of the flagship tracks of the EP, once again emphasized the duo’s will to re-write techno formula by collaborating with the London based singer, Be No Rain. Tale Of Us themselves remixed the track and in turn, became one of the anthems of the Afterlife Recordings label during 2019. As profile, industry respect and fanbase continued to build, it was perhaps an unexpected yet expectational collaboration with house music pioneer Kerri Chandler, which made the Parisian act one of the new decade’s unquestionably unignorable forces in electronic music.

Continuing their cross over from the underground, KAS:ST have a string of new releases scheduled for 2021, including recently releasing an official remix of Moby‘s ‘Too Much Change‘.

No strangers to gracing the stages of the world’s most sought-after clubs and festivals including BerghainPanaroma, KAS:ST are currently in the process of developing a new live show – Set to marry state of the art audio and video technology with the more traditionally focused implementation of live vocalists and instruments.
