A social networking service has invested $70 million in Soundcloud

Twitter, the third biggest social media site in the world has made an investment in music streaming startup SoundCloud. Twitter wanted to buy the company a couple years ago; now it has invested $70 million instead.

According to Recode, Twitter has invested around $70 million in the music service, as part of a round that should end up in the $100 million-range. The round is expected to value SoundCloud at about $700 million — the same value that investors placed on the company in 2014, when it raised $60 million; since then it has also raised a debt round.

Representatives from Soundcloud and Twitter confirmed the deal with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, stating:

“Earlier this year we made an investment in SoundCloud through Twitter Ventures to help support some of our efforts with creators. They’ve been great partners of ours over the years and their community-supported approach mirrors ours in many ways.”

You’ll no longer have to travel all the way to America for this amazing festival, as Europe is getting its very own version of Burning Man.

The new three-day festival, entitled “Where The Sheep Sleep,” will take place from July 29-31 in the Veluwe, Netherlands. Burning Man is a “participant-driven event,” meaning there are no spectators, and everyone involved is responsible for their own experience.

If you want to attend, you first have to register with Burning Man Netherlands via their official Facebook Group, and then get your Burning Man Netherlands Event Membership. Tickets will only become available for purchase to registered members.

Deadly Shooting at Nightclub, 50 Dead & Many More Injured [VIDEO]

“Pulse”, a LGBT nightclub in Orlando was just recently subject to gunfire, with the gunman barricading themselves in the building with multiple hostages, killing approximately 50 and injuring at least 53.

The club based in Orlando, was hosting it’s Latino night to an attendance of 100 when the shots were fired. On their official Facebook page they advised people to flee quickly from the danger.

“We just heard shots, it was less than a minute, it felt longer,” Ricardo Negron said. “There was a brief pause and we just ran. Everybody was just faces to the floor. I had someone over me, I really didn’t see [how many gunmen there were]. All I can tell you was the club was packed, there were over 100 people there.”

In a press conference this morning, Orlando Police Chief John Mina originally said that approximately 20 people had been killed and more than 42 were injured, but both of those numbers were updated in a press conference held later this morning.

According to chief John Mina, he began shooting shortly after 2 a.m. An officer working at the nightclub exchanged shots with the suspect outside the club. Following that exchange, the gunman went inside Pulse and opened fire.

He subsequently held those remaining in the club hostage. At 5 a.m, authorities made the decision to enter the “Pulse” club, at which point SWAT teams exchanged further gunfire with the suspect and killed him.

According to Mina, the gunman was carrying an assault rifle and a handgun, as well as a “type of device” that may have been explosive in nature.

What terrible news to wake up to. Voice’ singer Christina Grimmie dies after shooting at Orlando concert.

Grimmie performed with the band Before You Exit at Orlando’s Plaza Live and stayed after the event to sign autographs for her fans, then police say a man approached the singer and shot her. He was tackled by her brother, and during that struggle, the suspect fatally shot himself. Shooter had no known connection to singer, police say.

The man who shot and killed the singer in Orlando on Friday night was not from that central Florida city, and “he traveled to Orlando apparently to commit this crime,” Orlando Police Chief John Mina told reporters Saturday.

Christina Victoria Grimmie (March 12, 1994 – June 11, 2016) was an American singer and songwriter, best known for participating in The Voice and for her covers of hit songs by contemporary pop musicians.

EDM artist bans phone use in his latest show

Unless you hate music, have claustrophobia/social anxiety or you live in a cave, chances are you’ve probably been to a music event in the past few years. And if you have, you’ve probably noticed the insane influx of technology used at live performances—specifically, mobile phones.

It seems like in today’s age of live music, audience members are more watching the show through their cell phones than with their own eyes, desperate to Instagram/tweet/Facebook/Snapchat moments from the performance.

But what if, for one night we leave our cell phones at home, to live in the moment and truly enjoy in the music? Well San Francisco DJ and producer Lane 8 conceptualized a new show with one goal in mind — eradicating all phone use.

We live at a time when distractions from reality are never further away than our fingertips. Our phones offer us…

Posted by Lane 8 on Tuesday, April 19, 2016

Entering the event, a black piece of tape was placed on everyone’s phone, covering both the front and back camera lenses. What’s your opinion guys, should other DJs follow Lane 8’s lead with no cell phone zones at music events?

This Famous EDM Festival is Cancelled Because Of AVICII

After announcing his retirement 2 months ago, Avicii has canceled all of his remaining Las Vegas shows. The announcement made via social media cited the reason for the canceled shows as “personal reasons”, and now this Swedish DJ and producer has, directly or otherwise, caused the cancellation of an entire festival.

Following the massive success of this year’s The Flying Dutch, the organisation behind the festival have released some terrible news for the EDM fans. The “Swedish Edition” of this festival which was scheduled for the 30th of this July is now cancelled because their promoters are not confident in Avicii’s ability to show up.

Here is their official statement regarding the cancellation

“These past weeks we experienced uncertainty because Avicii was cancelling a lot of shows all over the world,’ says organiser John Ewbank. ‘Our request to Avicii and his management to provide a guarantee of his attendance at our event went to no avail. They can’t vouch for his presence. This uncertainty is unacceptable. We can’t do that to our audience.’ Allan Hardenberg of Alda adds: ‘We regret this very much, also because these would be his final shows in our country. We understand that the fans will be disappointed, especially because everyone realises how unique this event would have been. Everyone who had already bought a ticket will of course receive a refund. They will be informed by us personally and our website will also contain information about how to get your money back.”

The shows were set to be played in Nijmegen, The Hague and Den Bosch with a line-up that included the likes of Alesso, Avicii, Axwell, Steve Angello and many more top swedish DJs.

Diplo attacks EDM: “It’s a really lame culture… I’m sad that i’m part of it”

No one expected him to say this, after his huge success with Jack U over the past year, after the title “Dance artist of the year“, his success with his other project Major Lazer. But it appears that Diplo doesn’t exactly seem proud of it.

In a recent interview for Billboard, supplementing his title of “Dance Artist of the Year” for the brand’s annual Power List of DJs and Execs, Diplo expressed his disappointment with the EDM scene:

“The DJ world is the corniest f**king group of people. We’re not celebrities, we’re not famous for any good reason. We’re just … really lame. Besides people like Dillon Francis, who makes fun of the whole thing, or Calvin Harris, it’s a sinking ship. It’s a really lame culture. I’m sad that I’m part of it, but I play the game.”

skrillex-diplo-ravejungle-596x420

When it comes to collaborating with the 22-year-old pop star Justin Bieber, the producer remembered:

“Justin came to Vegas one night when I played Where Are U Now, He had just turned 21, and he was like, ‘Yo, man, I want to thank you, because this is the first time I’ve ever had adults clap for me. This is like a big deal.’ You think about that, and yeah, he was kind of like a clown on a pedestal. People just like picked on him.”

After this Diplo added:

“I think it’s hard because Justin wants to be cool. And he’s a music fan. He loves pop music just like he loves rap music. We did like five rap songs you’ll never hear. And if you were 18 or 19, can have any girl you want, have all the money you want? F*ck, I would be a lot f*cking crazier than him. I mean, I’m 37, and I’m just finally maturing now.”
