Burning Man is the United States’ largest gathering and boasts over 60,000 burners each year. For years the masses have descended upon Black Rock City, Nevada for an experience that changes their life.

Burning Man is also known for its “Leave No Trace” policy which ensures that no waste is left behind when everyone leaves and that the playa’s environment stays clean and intact. While they have always been good about minimizing the trash left behind it is the oddities that get left behind that are intriguing.

Community Services Department Manager, Terry Schoop shed a little light on Burning Man lost and found collection which is a detailed catalog of phones, identification, flaming nunchucks and a chainmail skirt. Yeah, that’s right, a chainmail skirt.

“As of mid-November, we’ve recovered 2,479 items and returned 1,279,” said Schoop. “We have about a 60 percent return rate.” he added.

As someone who recently just had their phone stolen at a festival, I think it is awesome that so much stuff gets returned each year. This shows that mankind has the capability to show compassion for others’ loss and the willingness to help any way possible.

Live review: ODESZA’s ‘A moment Apart’ tour rocks sold out show at the Electric Factory

In live music there are these little moments that happen that I can only describe as pure magic. In these precious minutes I am not stuck watching the show through a tiny phone screen. Instead, it’s just me, standing still, watching wide eyed as I witness the most beautiful orchestration of lights and sound unfold perfectly in front of me on the stage in real time.

It takes every bit of willpower I have to hold back tears while this occurs, and an overwhelming sense of euphoria fills every fiber of my being.

This is what happened to me when I saw ODESZA for their sold out run at The Electric Factory this past Tuesday, and this is the exactly the type of experience that I encourage everyone to seek out at least once in their life.

ODESZA started as a collaborative project between Western Washington University students Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight while the two were seniors in 2012. Since then they have gone on to release chart smashing albums such as “Summer’s Gone”, “In Return,” and most recently, “A Moment Apart.”

Today, ODESZA has managed to win over the hearts of adoring fans across the country, and their stop in Philadelphia proved no less — these guys deserved every cheer they got from the crowd that night.

The duo’s set was stock full of stunning visuals, timed like a narrative to each song that was played. Tracks ranged from newer hits such as “Line of Sight” to older favorites like “Don’t Stop,” and each moment of their performance was truly awe inspiring.

ODESZA was holding nothing back this tour, and it was clear that each production decision of their set was made with the intention of being as extraordinary as possible. These guys weren’t just doing another gig, they were telling the greatest story of their careers, and they wanted the whole audience along for the ride.

Ever wonder where Steve Aoki gets his cakes? You gotta read this!

Steve Aoki is known to throw cake during his sets, and a lot of it. Turns out these aren’t just your run of the mill baked goods though, these are some top-notch creations.

This world-renowned producer reportedly has a team of culinary experts in charge of crafting these deserts to smashable perfection.

Steve Aoki was recently quoted saying to ‘Celebretainment’:

“We have a special team of cake makers that travel the world with us getting the consistency just right — the desired effect is explosive rather than edible.”

As for how Aoki chooses the lucky few who get caked?

“The way I pick who gets caked is generally by who shows me the most energy and is screaming for it,” he commented. “It can be as many as 10 [cakes per show]. The crowd now expect it from the show.”

He then adds, “I still can’t help but ask myself… should I stop caking people? Will that stop the haters from hating? Stop giving the trolls more content to target me with? I even ask myself, are the cakes and the rafts taking away from the art of my culture, DJing? I’m sure many people feel that I am because things I do are not part of the norm.”

Keep those cakes coming, Aoki!

Armada draws superstar producers out of their confort zone with Breaking Borders EP1

armada music

Considering the plethora of genres and musical styles Armada Music deals in, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Amsterdam-based record label loves to see its artists experiment across the electronic music spectrum.

Today marks the day we see the first three of these exploratory ventures emerge in the form of a phenomenal EP: ‘Breaking Borders E.P. #1

For this first part of the ‘Breaking Borders’ series – which focuses on a different genre or style per installment –three highly acclaimed electronic music acts have taken up Armada Music on their challenge and produced a record that meets the Trance criteria.

While none other than Canadian stars Sultan + Shepard came up with ‘Bloom‘ (as featured on Armin van Buuren‘s ‘A State Of Trance, Ibiza 2017’ compilation), Grammy-nominated DJ and producer Morgan Page conjured up ‘Calera‘ and Techno guru Gabriel Ananda proved the creator of It’s Moving.

All stellar tracks in their own right, they show that these artists are anything but one-trick ponies and that they’re not to be pigeonholed.

Sultan + Shepard: “Since we started producing, we’ve made tracks in lots of different styles. We’ve always had a place close to our heart for the deeper, more progressive sounds. Recently, we’ve been inspired by the resurgence of that sound and we wanted to do somewhat of a return to those roots.

We wanted to move forward, to combine everything we’ve learned over the years into something that would still give us the feeling we had when we first started making progressive, techy, deeper music.

All of this is to say that we’re really proud to present ‘Bloom’ to the world. The amount of support from DJs and the number of messages from fans has already been so great and we hope that all of you enjoy it, because we had a blast making it.”

Morgan Page: “‘Calera’ is Trance-infused throwback to that classic progressive sound that is missing these days. It’s different from my usual work, but I had a lot of fun making it!”

Gabriel Ananda: “I got plunged into Techno in 1991 and back then, the whole scene was dominated by Trance music, fast-paced music with heavy bass drums and lots of staccato strings. I loved those staccato strings and still do, which is why I felt I had to put them into this song. It’s important for me to represent Trance in its purest form and I hope I’ve been able to do so through ‘It’s Moving’.”

In addition to the acts that are already part of the Armada Music roster, the ‘Breaking Borders’ series also aims to inspire and challenge non-Armada artists as well. Therefore, anyone is invited to reach out and tell Armada Music which producer they want to see produce a certain genre of style. Together, we’ll be breaking borders one at a time.

YOOKiE really set the tone here for the rest of the compilation and it’s where we’d love to see bass music heading.” – ZEDS DEAD

The first track on the compilation, ‘Intruder Alert’ raises the alarm as a heavy, power-fuelled stomper of a tune. With Intruder Alert becoming a staple in their sets following overwhelming crowd response, Zeds Dead have nothing but praise for the track:

The turbocharged ecstasy pills – nicknamed ‘Tesla’ and ‘Rolls Royce’, which have killed two teenagers are flooding the streets.

These ecstasy pills are being sold in thousands on the so-called ‘Dark Web‘ and are branded to attract youngsters, but teenagers have no idea how strong the “turbocharged” substances really are.

The Daily Star reported the drugs were easily accessible on the Dark Web.

One United Kingdom vendor was offering 15 Blue Tesla ecstasy pills laced with 250 mg of MDMA, double the average dosage for an Ecstasy tablet – for just £55.

The post read: “We would like to present our BLUE TESLA XTC PILLS 230-250MG. These are brand new in to us. We have been informed that these are one of the cleanest pills around. “*CAUTION* – THESE PILLS ARE A LOT STRONGER THAN OUR REGULAR XTC PILLS.”

Usually good quality ecstasy pills have roughly 80-125 mg of MDMA in them, so yes these pills are lot stronger than regular ones and can cause fatal reactions.

Another United Kingdom seller was offering 5 pills for £22.50. He posted: “Nice pills. Bit strong for me – I only needed half.”

According to The Daily Star they found a staggering 391 listings for Tesla pills of all colours, and 398 listings for the deadly pink Rolls-Royce tablets.

This month, 19 year-old Drake Morgan-Baines from the Newport area of Wales suffered a fatal cardiac arrest and brain seizure after taking a Tesla pill at a nightclub in Bristol.

Weeks earlier, a 16 year-old boy died after taking a pink ecstasy pill with Rolls-Royce symbol at a Halloween rave in Gwytherin, Conwy, North Wales.

Authorities in the United Kingdom are on the lookout to find the perpetrators behind the dealing of the so-called “Snapchat” ecstasy pills after a series of recent hospitalizations.

The pills in question are brightly colored, and feature the iconic ghost logo associated with the popular social media application.

Among those affected were two 14 year old girls from West Cumbria, who were both hospitalized in separate incidences after taking the purchased pills believed to be ecstasy/MDMA. Authorities warn that these pills contain fatal doses of the illegal drugs.

To make matters more alarming, it has been reported by local parents that people as young as 12 years old were finding access to these £5.00 “Snapchat” pills.

It is encouraged that anyone with more information about the suppliers come forward with more information to prevent further incidences from occurring. Reports are able to be submitted anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

Burning Man seeks approval to keep the same location in 2019

Burning Man img scottlondon.com

Burning Man has become one of the most iconic gatherings in the world with thousands descending upon Black Rock City every year. The event has a unique structure with a laid back attitude and features performances from Jamie Jones, Hernan Cattaneo and many more.

One of the most respectable aspects of Burning Man is their ‘Leave No Trace’ policy which ensures that no waste is left behind and that the land is left intact.

It has come time though for the Bureau of Land Management to conduct a 10-year Environmental Impact Statement to see just exactly what the impact of the festival has been on Black Rock City.

Burning Man is required to have a permit to operate on federal lands and while the Playa may be a traditional stomping grounds, BLM could refuse the festival to continue if the impact is too high.

The event currently has a capacity hold of 70,000 people and usually hasn’t included staff and personnel, but now it will. BLM will take a year and a half to do an analysis of what the impact will be if Black Rock City continues to grow over the next 10 years.

While Burning Man has no intentions to grow the city, it is worth nothing that growth is almost inevitable and they are looking at what the impact would be on growth.

All we can hope is that Burning Man will continue on for many years to come and hopefully most people will get a chance to descend upon Black Rock City.
