Above & Beyond releases long-anticipated single ‘Northern Soul’ featuring Richard Bedford

above & beyond

Above & Beyond’s newest masterpiece entitled ‘Northern Soul’ is out now on Anjunabeats. The emotional track marks the reunion of the group with Richard Bedford; the voice of A&B classics ‘Alone Tonight’, ‘Thing Called Love’ and ‘Sun & Moon.’

‘Northern Soul’ is an ode to the grit, determination and beating heart of Detroit – one of dance music’s most influential cities. Alongside “Tightrope” and “My Own Hymn,” “Northern Soul” marks the third single to be released from Above & Beyond’s forthcoming album Common Ground, set for release on January 26, 2018.

“We’ve had ties to Detroit since before we met. Along with the world’s best chrome wheels the city gave us all such sweet soul music, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Stevie Wonder and the rest of the legendary Tamla Motown alumni, The Parliaments, Patti Smith, The White Stripes and Eminem – the list is endless. And let’s not forget techno, without whom etc. So we’re all hugely indebted to Detroit” says Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness.

“We tried a lot of singers, many of them great in their own way, but you have to hand it to Richard Bedford – his performance is fabulous and real and human – above all he makes it believable.”

Party Favor teams up with Diplo to remix Yo Gotti and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Rake It Up’

Party Favor

Party Favor and Diplo have joined forces for a dynamic trap remix collaboration of Yo Gotti and Nicki Minaj’s smash single “Rake It Up” produced by Mike Will Made It.

The remix follows up Party Favor‘s recent collaboration with Bad Royale and Richie Loop, entitled “Bury,” that kicked off his current nationwide Tuned Out Tour.

Paying homage to the original smash hit, the trap infused version of “Rake It Up” is complete with heavy drums and a rumbling bassline. The high-tempo build-up of Yo Gotti‘s lyrics lead directly to an immensely intense drop, full of raging festival trap that compliments Nicki Minaj‘s boisterous verse.

Party Favor‘s infectious music has created massive demand across the globe, leading to consistent headlining tours around the world at some of the best and most iconic venues. His collaboration with Diplo for “Rake It Up” is the physical embodiment of both producer’s dynamic production abilities.

Live review: I spent my Halloween at a Slushii show, here’s what went down

There’s always one thing that happens on Halloween that winds up making it my favorite holiday of the year. Cause let’s face it, whether it’s having the ability to go all out on a crazy costume with friends, or being able to grab free candy at almost any corner, this night is prime time to let just loose and have fun.

This year I decided to skip out on the usual festivities. Instead, I headed straight out to the TLA to see DJ and producer Slushii for the first time, and it was a million times better than any sick costume or free snickers bar that I’ve had in my life.

I reach the venue early at around 9:00 PM, shaking from the cold. I can almost see my breath as I make my way through to the entrance and past security. Once I’m inside I’m instantly greeted by loud, thumping bass notes and make my way through a small crowd of costumed people.

DJ Brain Rack performs at TLA

Up front, local opener Brain Rack is killing his set, and already there’s a group of dedicated headbangers near the rail, raging to tracks such as “Dead Man” one heavy dub drop at a time. On stage, Brain Rack never stops moving, always throwing in jumps and raising his hands for the crowd to keep up with his manic like energy. His performance ends on a high note, and this carries over into the next set with producer, Shizz Lo.

For those of you not from Philly, you may not be familiar with who Shizz Lo is. This DJ has been making waves through the local scene with his bold, trap rap hybrids, and is quickly proving himself as one of the city’s mainstay producers. By the time his set starts, the crowd has tripled in size, and I find myself getting shoved towards the back.

Up front, things are wild, the crowd cheers and goes along with the hype as he tears through his set. By the end, my own feet are killing me from dancing, so I take a minute to sit down right on the floor as he closes his final song.

Shizz Lo @ The TLA as he closes out his set

At around 10:45, my phone buzzes. It’s time. I can feel my hands shaking as I lift my camera over my head and head towards the front. The murmur of the crowd and my own heartbeat is all I can hear until I reach the stage curtain.

Once inside, time goes by almost too quick. Soon, the back area is full of people, including Julian (Slushii) himself. He makes small talk with everyone for a few minutes, and then that’s when the venue goes dark.

Deafening cheers start to fill the whole room. The lights go on as he walks on stage, and soon after he kicks right into his opening song.

DJ Slushii as he opens his set

A wave of pyrotechnic smoke blasts out towards the crowd as he hits his first drop. Behind him, multicolored graphics flash on the screen, and I catch glimpses of the rainbow Slushii icon.

His mixing style is unlike anything else, marked by his signature pitched vocals and feel good instrumentals, and I can’t help but smile as I watch him work through his set. He’s giving this his all. There’s joy felt in each note that blasts through the venue speakers and the feeling spreads throughout every single person in the audience. People were jumping, dancing, and just overwhelmed with happiness.

Crowd

Slushii’s performance reminded me of why I started going to EDM concerts to begin with. The vibes that surround these shows can’t be found anywhere else. When you go to one of these events it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, the music connects everyone together, even if it’s only for a few hours. Julian is definitely one of those DJ’s who cares about making this happen, so if he’s coming to a city near you, please don’t skip out!

Carnage starts a “F*ck Deadmau5” chant following their conflict [VIDEO]

deadmau5

I hope you aren’t a vegetarian because the past week has been nothing but straight beef coming out of the EDM industry recently.

Deadmau5 is wildly known for his willingness to call out anyone at any time for any reason which has made him quite infamous and entertaining on social media. Carnage and Deadmau5 both played at Cemetery of Sound event over the Halloween weekend in which Carnage claims that Deadmau5 pushed Carnage out of nowhere whereas Deadmau5 claims that Carnage threatened him.

Joel aka Deadmau5 is a small man, definitely smaller than Carnage by a large margin, I highly doubt he had enough power behind his shove to do any damage to the heavyweight. That being said, Carnage’s response is what you would call less than professional.

In typical rap genre style, Carnage took to the microphone last night to start a chant stating “f*ck Deadmau5” and “f*ck Joel”. Master of the internet was quick to promptly reply, “who?” insinuating he has no idea who Carnage even is.

From Carnage and Deadmau5 to Getter and Bassnectar, I can’t wait to see how all of these new conflicts will play out in the coming week. My best bet, nothing will come of them and they will die off within a matter of days, but who knows we may get a Deadmau5 diss track off of Heavyweight Records.

Marshmello is cooking up some treats and disses Deadmau5 [VIDEO]

Marshmello and deadmau5

As you may already know, Marshmello and Deadmau5 continually beef and fire shots at each other. The Canadian progressive house producer is not a fan of the Mello masked man and he’s let people know.

About a year ago the “mysterious” masked man Marshmello, released a massively successful video for his track ‘Alone’ which featured him feeding a pet mouse named Joel.

Marshmello doubled down on his beef during the first-ever installment of “Cooking with Marshmello”, which offers viewers a tutorial for making chocolate mice creatures so cute that you’ll want to eat them all up.

At the end of the video, a voice over instructs the DJ to handle his mouse delicately.

“You know how mad these mice can get,” the voice says, then Marshmello slams the mouse against the cabinet.

Getter bans Bassnectar Merchandise at his Halloween show!

bassnectar getter

Last night in Washington DC, strange dress-code rules were being enforced at Getter’s show that you wouldn’t believe.

The show took place at the famous Echostage venue in DC. The event also had a pretty stacked lineup including Getter, Party Favor and Spock.

Being a Halloween event, you’d think all costumes and attire would be welcome. Well, they weren’t. Attendees wearing any Bassnectar merchandise were turned away by security and not permitted in the venue. Kandi and glow-sticks were also not allowed.

Getter clearly isn’t down for the whole PLUR thing. Here’s a few other tweets from attendees last night..

According to Getter, this was all the result of a joke gone bad due to a line item on his rider, and now he’s trying to mop up the pieces and defend himself against angry Bassnectar fans.
